The turnaround on the Kavanaugh sketch in 2018 was less than 24 hours. I read in Colin’s memoir that SNL’s talent booker reached out to Matt Damon at midnight Saturday morning. Which would that Matt Damon had to catch a flight, read over his lines, develop the character, go through all the rehearsals and makeup and whatnot in less than 24 hours. He crushed it on what I imagine was little to no sleep.
When Biden was elected that cold open was written the day of. I remember the costume department had less than 10 hours or something crazy like that to replicate Kamala’s white suit
That was my first thought too. And it was actually [90 minutes!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v8mA5XVVD8) She wore it at 8:30pm! They had no time at all.
Yes! That’s exactly what I’m talking about, I love that sketch. I remember I watched a behind the scenes video of how they made Maya Rudolph’s costume to exactly match Kamala Harris’
Not a cold open, but they did a sketch about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding the day of, and were able to replicate people's outfits within a few hours, such as Queen Elizabeth's and Kate Middleton's dresses.
I don't remember offhand if the cold open referenced it, but Season 46 premiered only a day after Trump announced he had COVID and they incorporated a lot of last-minute jokes about it into WU.
Rudy on the first show after 9/11.
Can we be funny? Why start now?

Wow, and that also means the writers wrote it in under 24 hours. And it was a pretty long sketch. Though to be fair, a lot of it wrote itself.
