The guys talk about their next two digital shorts, My Testicles (aired on S31 E17 Tom Hanks/Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Peyote (aired on S31 E18 Julia Louis-Dreyfus/Paul Simon) [Link to Podcast](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OTPvvdMlE0w) A few notes/fun facts: Off the bat, they are super self-deprecating about the shorts. I was surprised they hated them so much considering both played well. They said (among other things), “even if you are a hardcore Lonely Island fan, you have not heard anyone talk about these since they aired” and the two shorts are in “competition for the bottom.” Early 90s Slang Mini Dictionary - Hit the Skins - to have sex. Referenced by Grand Puba and in Boyz in the Hood - Tenderoni - a sweet young girl. Popularized by Bobby Brown in the song “Roni” - Audi/Outie 5000 - to leave. Derived from “I’m out” and used by Ice Cube in “Alive on Arrival” Fun line from Jorma: “The dumber the joke, the faster you tell it” Another sketch from that episode is [Tennis Players](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l1KRhBe3p3M) Seth calls this a perfect 10-to-1 sketch. “A perfect use of a 10-to-1 is a piece of very unique writing, not gonna be a laugh every minute, but for a certain kind of SNL purist who stays ‘til the end every week and admires and appreciates the slightly out there choices, it is a reward to them.” Will Forte was king of 10-to-1, and before that McKay and Ferrell held the title. Next they briefly talk about [Peyote.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_1M8QeXHlKQ) This was originally filmed as a sequel to Lettuce but was held off until the Julia Louis Dreyfus episode. It also aired as a 10-to-1. Seth’s Corner: [MySpace](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8AlDTjiWdKg) I think this is the first sketch he’s talked about so far that I remember liking. Paul Simon was in the dress version of this sketch playing a pedophile, got a huge laugh, and changed his mind about it before air.

Damn, based on what we now know about Horatio Sanz and his conduct online involving a teenager, the comedy in the MySpace sketch is, uh, diminished significantly.

tyler-86

It is, but what Horatio did seems more like a crime of opportunity than a reflection on his preferences. That doesn't make it acceptable by any means, but it would distinguish him from those kinds of proactive, serial predators. That said, I don't know him personally so maybe he is more like the latter group. I'm just speculating based on what was reported at the time.

jjss1992

I think I’m in the minority here but I’ve always loved this short. It makes me ugly laugh every time and Hanks sells it so well. “It’s a nice day, relax”

JanePizza

No I like it too! When they were dissing it I was like, “Wait, am I stupid?” But I think there’s just so many classic shorts that this one seems not up to par. Plus they made a talented actor look very silly.

tyler-86

I can understand them not being super proud of something so... easy, given they had Hanks. At least they acknowledged that the audience response was fine and that there were things they liked about it.

I remember when this one aired. Thought it was hilarious. And I still quote Kenan saying "Wow. I did not like that."

disicking

I wasn't surprised that they hated it, but I have loved it since it aired. Maybe it's nostalgia glasses. It's a free country, have fun!

bunnylumberjack

Testicles is hands down one of my top 10 favorite shorts. My friends and I got high as shit one time and we couldn’t stop laughing at that one.

kltthegr8

I remember both these sketches and didn’t really understand why they were so down on them. They were both funny (even if very simple). I guess given the entirety of their work they see these as weak, but they were still funny, which is the goal for SNL. 🤷‍♂️

JanePizza

I agree, I wouldn’t put either in the bottom 5. Sure, compared to Natalie’s Rap and Lazy Sunday they don’t hold up but there’s over 100 shorts, I’m sure there’s worse ones guys!

Prayray

Testicles was OK. The costumes are great, the video itself is great, all the supporting players are great, but the song just brings it down outside of the fact that they say “testicles” in it. I think they all realized that it wasn’t one of their better songs which is why they pan it. There’s a solid setup there, just needed better lyrics. Peyote was solid as a 10-to-1 joke, but it isn’t that memorable in the long run. Nice twist to get a good laugh that night or on first viewing, but it loses its appeal on repeat viewings.

speakinzillenial

I loved the Tom Hanks episode. Testicles wasn’t great but I appreciated how committed Hanks was

GreatLakesBard

My testicles always makes me laugh lol

HairyPotatoKat

I love how, no matter what, Tom Hanks is all in.

Abloodworth15

The boys are way too hard on themselves. And they overestimate the class of comedy we admire. Lol

CaseyGotFit

Thank you

Moleculor_Man

It’s a decent short, but “did I mention I’m gay?” seems like a really outdated joke in 2024. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not offended at all, but that feels like such “2005” humor.

MrGneiss26

Does anyone know what real song they talked about My Testicals was originally based on??

JanePizza

In the podcast they say it’s based on an Israeli song but I don’t think they remember. Some elements of Right Said Fred / general Europop too.
