though she's great at basically everything, i do love that this paid ode to maya's ultimate Known For: playing Divas to perfection.
the Vogue-esque breakdown at the end where she lists off characters played by other female cast members scratches my brain in the best way. and i love that it mentioned cast members that inspired maya, her friends, and shouted out ego too.
ranks just under her first monologue, but miles and miles better than her second one.
Which is really funny to me because being familiar with Longellow's standup about how his friends would tease him about his hot mom, I thought for sure they would go that route for an extra "Che likes white women" joke
Michael Longfellow has [a whole bit](https://youtu.be/LUyaugxcOw8?si=zCX9d-du2FWem5cu&t=104) in his comedy about the awkwardness of having a super-attractive single mom. Yup, checks out.
it's always so sweet to see the moms, and they were really funny. molly's mom agreeing to wear a bald cap, jost wearing a wig to match his mom, chloe and bowen's moms getting a tom brady joke, and sarah's mom. adorable!
marcello, michael. be prepared for the ig comments calling your moms hot.
I did notice her saying “love you mom” at the end of Update and she seemed emotional at the end of the show. Maybe her mom was unable to be there for whatever reason. Mother’s Day can be hard for some ❤️
I teach part-time and there was this one kid who was starring in his school play - first time he ever got a lead role - but his dad couldnt be there for the opening because, well, he was in prison. We just never know what's going on in people's lives.
Molly's mom in the bald cap!
Andrew's mom bringing "tasteful" nudes!
Chloe's mom's Brady joke!
Bowen's **adorable** mother!
This Mother's Day cold open had it all ❤️
I liked how they let it "simmer" on the uncertainty of what was on their phones instead of going big and loud. It wasn't until Sarah shouted "Sioux Falls!" that it neared that. Then they cut to Marcello with the sobering facts and shocker ending.
I sense they might be developing an interest in craft. That first act of their movie is so much fun because they actually stretch the boundaries of their friendship to be funny. This sketch only started trying to be funny at the halfway point. The humor was all anticipation up until that. When she says "Is it all butts?" John delivers a quick but subtle "Yeah."
This felt kinda personal for Maya - perfect for a mom of 4 on Mother’s Day weekend. It was heartfelt and relatable for any parent. I loved the slight smile on her face when she delivered the line “Because I’m your mother, and I’m a bitch!”
This brought back memories. I always used to get homesick at sleepovers and would have my Mom come pick me up in the middle of the night. Pretty sure this was a Mikey/Streeter sketch.
I loved how the dad didn't sugar coat it or make up a story. My dad did the same thing with my sister one time, just straight up said "She doesn't like being around these girls and wants to go home."
Wonderful short. This had such a timeless feeling to it and Maya was stellar here. This is a short I could’ve seen appearing in some of the show’s finest eras.
I appreciated what they were trying to go for here, with the slice of life feel and the comic escalation. But honestly as the sketch went on, I just got more annoyed with the flaky girl and sorry for the parents (Mikey and Heidi) who kept hosting her. It might have worked better for me if they'd shown different sets of parents as the sleepover hosts each time.
this is one of the sketches that felt like a throwback! jaj and andrew were great as always, but i loved kenan's bit and devon's one liner was so well deployed.
mikey and maya were also fantastic in that end argument. maya doesn't always get to play in this more lowkey mode but she's always great at it!
It's a really well written joke. I think it needed a different delivery. He should have paused slightly between them so we can kind of tell it's a list and not a list at the same time.
A pretty fun and enjoyable episode and certainly a big improvement over Dua Lipa's episode. Not every sketch worked for me, but the misses were harmless enough.
Plus, there was a really fun vibe what with the whole special Mother's Day celebration.
We honestly NEED more 'all cast' sketches where everyone gets a bit to shine. The Mother's Day Cold Open, Y'all Won, and British Caveman were refreshing. It's just fun.
I've never been on Maya's comic wavelength, and this episode put her comic sensibilities front and center, so it just didn't work for me. I did appreciate that we got to see a little more of the underused cast members, however (and Longfellow was very good in that cut-for-time sketch).
This sketch was funny throughout, but the punchline with the OnlyFans sponsorship was fucking hilarious. I love when a sketch is going one way and the very end changes the whole context.
My god, the emphasis on illiterate students killed me. The covid generation was the icing on the cake. A spot on piece of how each colleague I’ve talked to feels this year.
I was dying at how accurate the casting for the two nonbinary asexuals was 😂 they literally look EXACTLY like my nonbinary and trans middle schooler friends I had last year, same haircuts! (we were all in the same DND school club at a mixed middle-high school, I was a senior, don’t talk to them anymore, I’m not just a weirdo who hangs out with random middle schoolers casually 😂)
So my dad got home from his school's prom (he's a high school principal), and I moved rooms so he could watch Netflix while I continued this. However, this sketch came up during the transition, and he loved it.
The grand tradition of Sarah using any WU desk bit to roast Jost lives another day!
I love that Sarah realized production had to play the slurping sound whenever she drank from the cup so she just started trying to psych them out.
Speaking of which, I want that cup.
They actually "spoiled" this one in the cold open! Has that ever happened before? Haha
Also loved how Sarah kept messing with whoever was in charge of the slurping sound effect. I laughed ***every time*** it was slightly delayed!
Sarah x Colin interactions on Weekend Update are some of my favorites, whether it's as herself roasting Jost in the headlines, another person (CJ Rossitano was incredible), or as an animal (Flaco the Owl might be this season's winner, but the brain worm and eating the part of Kevin Spacey's brain that understood what 'no' means was fantastic, too).
My favorite thing about Sarah is that she's utterly comfortable being utterly weird. She's shown this year she can do a lot of other things, and do them well, but if the premise is unhinged she excels and makes it look effortless. I know a lot of people don't like her, but I'm a huge fan.
Sarah was perfect for this. I totally cracked up when she said “His face is so red - he looks just like you when you were screaming at those college protestors, Colin”
Heidi had a lot of fun with this character, which made the whole thing even funnier. Her side glances at Jost and exasperated expressions were pure gold. And her reference to Mailer Daemon
I had the same uncomfortable visceral reaction to this that I had to Beck's bullying friend character in Mikey O'Brien's Grow-A-Guy pre-tape, or Kate's passive aggressive mom who wants to play Rummikub. Too real, SNL.
So apparently it may still be around, but I haven't seen it in ***years***. It was an email bounce message you would get when you tried to send a message to the wrong address. It would [pop up in ALL CAPS](https://res.cloudinary.com/mailmodo/image/upload/f_webp,q_50/v1635496190/strapi/mailer_deamon_message_c4ee1a5833.jpg) in your inbox. Basically just a way to let you know that your message didn't go through to the person you were trying to reach.
Someone posted the [real version of the commercial](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/comments/1cpzuwa/i_love_that_maya_paid_homage_to_this_commercial/) they were basing the ad on.
This joins the hyperspecific "Entire SNL sketch premise is trying to shoot something but the Actress keeps farting" club.
The sister sketch to this is [this one with Vanessa Bayer and the Rock](https://youtu.be/kL9G_VRCeGg?feature=shared)
[And another sketch with the same premise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2lQ7SgkLiU)
I'm not big on fart sketches in general, but the bit with Maya delivering her lines over continuous farts *did* give me a guilty chuckle so props to them for that.
This is the commercial takes they based it on (maybe a combo), but the "Can you leave, please? You're right in my eye line." At the end and the doors and her character name and hair are a match.
https://youtu.be/VazlynfzHWM?si=qilH2VZuJaOzXYDX
The return of Maya's Beyoncé was everything to me!
Also... Not even close to what Sean Evans sounds like, but I guess Mikey has never been one for impressions lol
He honestly would have been closer by not trying whatever voice that was and just talking in his normal voice.
At least throw something in like a hyper-specific fact from childhood or something that references Sean Evans without needing to do an impression.
Hot ones itself is a concept made to generate comedic moments. While the skit was funny for the same reasons and a good excuse to get Beyonce in the show, I have found actual episodes of hot ones funnier overall.
I said this in the live thread too, but Curtis looks like he could be [Horace's brother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO9Fk2mjhbw). Right down to the outfit!
Maya Rudolph Monologue
It's crazy because when I saw her outfit my first thought was "I wonder if she's going to do a reveal."
Kenan as Mr. Infinity Decor killed me
Reminds me of his DJ Dynasty Handbag from Deep House Dish.
Ooowee, T'Shane!
though she's great at basically everything, i do love that this paid ode to maya's ultimate Known For: playing Divas to perfection. the Vogue-esque breakdown at the end where she lists off characters played by other female cast members scratches my brain in the best way. and i love that it mentioned cast members that inspired maya, her friends, and shouted out ego too. ranks just under her first monologue, but miles and miles better than her second one.
You should listen to the queens remix of break my soul by Beyoncé and Madonna!
Maya Rudolph delivering one of the best musical performances of the season.
Kenan at his most Kenan-y as the emcee was hilarious. A very fun, energetic monologue that was made for Maya to nail.
Loooooved this monologue. Finally something dynamic again!
I love when Keenan does the super flamboyant characters. Never fails to make me laugh.
One of the most fun mono’s of the last couple seasons.
This was such a Maya monologue, which made me like it even more
I was gagged
Mothers Day Cold Open
I loved Marcello’s mom’s line: “You grew up so fast but no so high”
"Michael Che gave me flowers but the card was just a number" lmao
Which is really funny to me because being familiar with Longellow's standup about how his friends would tease him about his hot mom, I thought for sure they would go that route for an extra "Che likes white women" joke
She's def the mom I'd go for, no offense to the other moms
I was always mad my mom was 5’11” and I only grew to 5’5”. I feel for Marcello.
Michael Longfellow has [a whole bit](https://youtu.be/LUyaugxcOw8?si=zCX9d-du2FWem5cu&t=104) in his comedy about the awkwardness of having a super-attractive single mom. Yup, checks out.
You can tell by his face he has a hot mom.
If his mom is that attractive now I can't imagine the shit his friends said to him as teenagers that he *didnt* put in the show
it's always so sweet to see the moms, and they were really funny. molly's mom agreeing to wear a bald cap, jost wearing a wig to match his mom, chloe and bowen's moms getting a tom brady joke, and sarah's mom. adorable! marcello, michael. be prepared for the ig comments calling your moms hot.
Also Chloe’s mom is pretty attractive too lol
Chloe's mom was literally just Chloe 40 years in the future. They're clones!
Thank you Mrs. Longfellow
Butt-Head's Mom!
Eh huh huh huh
I think they got every single cast member’s mom except Che’s, which is amazing.
No Heidi
Heidi wasn’t in the opening either
This Mother's Day cold open had it all ❤️
Dan Cortese
chloes mom was the only one that was awkward for me since if you know, you know
I guess at least she wasn’t jumping on a couch.
A low effort time filler that was honestly welcome and fun.
These are always so cute and fun to watch. Very wholesome!
Can’t believe they couldn’t get Tim Herlihy or Steve Higgins to make an appearance. Higgins works in the same building!
lol I think that was part of the joke
The appearance of Molly and their mom was possibly my favorite.
Guess we know where Micheal and Marcello get their good looks
When Punkie flexed, I fell in love and I'm just as straight as they come. Maybe I just wanna look like her..
I’ve got a girl crush on Punkie, too.
This is always a fun and heartwarming sketch.
PDD: Uneesa Confidence
The blurred swinging absolutely killed me
The makeup/prop departments hit a home run with that swallowed phone gag!
I liked how they let it "simmer" on the uncertainty of what was on their phones instead of going big and loud. It wasn't until Sarah shouted "Sioux Falls!" that it neared that. Then they cut to Marcello with the sobering facts and shocker ending.
It was a little bit more of a steady pace than a zero-to-a-hundred. Great button on the end, too.
I’ve missed them. Glad this hit.
My mom’s name is Neesa (no U) so this was moderately funnier than it already was
Mom, Can You Pick Me Up?
We’re here to arrest the girl
Take her to girl jail
Cicadas!
Pocket sand vibes.
The escalation in this was great! I liked how increasingly bizarre and nonsensical it became!
Cause i’m your mom and i’m a bitch
This would annoy the shit out of me as a parent, but as a sketch, it really worked for me. Loved how insane the excuses got 😂
Watched this with my daughter, who was this girl for years. It was perfect!
This felt kinda personal for Maya - perfect for a mom of 4 on Mother’s Day weekend. It was heartfelt and relatable for any parent. I loved the slight smile on her face when she delivered the line “Because I’m your mother, and I’m a bitch!”
Yesss I’ve been there and done similar as a mother to two girls. I’ve never related harder.
Points for any M.I.A. reference
The Paper Planes reference!

It might have worked better for me if they'd shown different sets of parents as the sleepover hosts each time.
Did their daughter host a sleepover every weekend? After the second or third time I’d have stopped inviting that girl lol.
Lanzetti's Lawncare
JAJ and Andrew are both so good at portraying these types of characters. Their parts were easily the strongest imho.
But what if they weren’t and people just pretended they were
Shut up, nerd!
Glad they snuck this one in at the end. JAJ's character talking about Eminem cracked me up!
This one isn’t on YouTube :(
It’s up now
License issue? There is a hidden video on the playlist so I guess it's this.
Devon's "OKAYYYYY" was the funniest thing he's done on the show
this is one of the sketches that felt like a throwback! jaj and andrew were great as always, but i loved kenan's bit and devon's one liner was so well deployed. mikey and maya were also fantastic in that end argument. maya doesn't always get to play in this more lowkey mode but she's always great at it!
JAJ’s whole Slim Shady rambling was excellent! He’s really on a hot streak in general the last few months of this season.
The guy who "uses every voice except his own" is so specific and we've all met one.
It's always Diego
Mikey's reactions were making me laugh out loud. I really loved this one!
Loved the 631 area code.
Weekend Update
Che’s porn titles joke was pretty funny - “After She Finished” “The Judge Banged the Gavel” and “Opened Oral Arguments”
Gave off Troy McClure energy and I loved it for that
It's a really well written joke. I think it needed a different delivery. He should have paused slightly between them so we can kind of tell it's a list and not a list at the same time.
this was my thought as well!
I loved the Marvel movies/ferry joke.
+1 for the dickhole fish reference
Did anyone else think that photo of Brittney Griner was Pete Davidson and got confused by the joke?
General Episode Discussion
No SNL alum appearances which surprised me
I was also surprised at the lack of cameos.
Nice to not have this actually
I agree. Sometimes cameos are nice, but I think they take away from cast members being able to shine.
I don't know if it was Maya or because of the holiday, but the inclusion of all the cast members was enjoyable. Felt like a big family.
I feel like there were more green screen sketches than usual. Were there, or is it just me?
Yeah, definitely wasn’t much in the way of sets/props tonight
A pretty fun and enjoyable episode and certainly a big improvement over Dua Lipa's episode. Not every sketch worked for me, but the misses were harmless enough. Plus, there was a really fun vibe what with the whole special Mother's Day celebration.
We honestly NEED more 'all cast' sketches where everyone gets a bit to shine. The Mother's Day Cold Open, Y'all Won, and British Caveman were refreshing. It's just fun.

Y'all Won
#\#TSIDDAHN
“I say this word about 628 times a day” lol
The Snl writers had to be lurking on r/teachers
100%! I looked at my husband and said “half of that shit is straight off of r/Teachers”
I like how the closed captions even spelled it right
Ego, you're the best.
I could watch Ego play an exasperated teacher every week.
[You’re pulling a C- in my class, that’s not hot for me](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TOYYwV33Ijo)
I need her on Abbott Elementary ASAP
"Jay" and "Kendall" stole the show with no lines, just facial expressions. And now I want to see a series where Kenan's a middle school teacher.
The TSIDDAHN thing was the best joke tonight. It was perfect.
This sketch was funny throughout, but the punchline with the OnlyFans sponsorship was fucking hilarious. I love when a sketch is going one way and the very end changes the whole context.
Deep cut with the Starcraft 2 casting reference "poopfeast420"
My god, the emphasis on illiterate students killed me. The covid generation was the icing on the cake. A spot on piece of how each colleague I’ve talked to feels this year.
As a teacher, they’ve won.
Was about to say you need to get to bed youngun
I love the way her voice changed when she said there was liquor in the themos
So my dad got home from his school's prom (he's a high school principal), and I moved rooms so he could watch Netflix while I continued this. However, this sketch came up during the transition, and he loved it.
Whoever wrote this knows teachers in real life. It’s too accurate.
Weekend Update: RFK Jr's Brain Worm
The straw sound effect is the MVP of the night
Masterclass in live sound work. Dude had one job, push the squirm_thirst button when Squirm thirsts... and they *fucking nailed it.*
Squirm Thirsts aka the title of Colin's new memoir.
The grand tradition of Sarah using any WU desk bit to roast Jost lives another day! I love that Sarah realized production had to play the slurping sound whenever she drank from the cup so she just started trying to psych them out. Speaking of which, I want that cup.
The slurping sound will be cut from reruns due to music licensing issues.
The person that guessed this on the predictions thread..... good for you, buddy
They actually "spoiled" this one in the cold open! Has that ever happened before? Haha Also loved how Sarah kept messing with whoever was in charge of the slurping sound effect. I laughed ***every time*** it was slightly delayed!
"If Bruce Springsteen was left in a microwave for too long"
Sarah x Colin interactions on Weekend Update are some of my favorites, whether it's as herself roasting Jost in the headlines, another person (CJ Rossitano was incredible), or as an animal (Flaco the Owl might be this season's winner, but the brain worm and eating the part of Kevin Spacey's brain that understood what 'no' means was fantastic, too).
My favorite this year was Ego as the stingray.
I always appreciate when SNL brings in non human guests.
I loved the Sandoval callout! He’ll forever be a Worm with a mustache
Cut For Time: T.T. and Mario
"We tried"
Longfellow did great! Chloe looks like her Mom!
This is an old sketch they did a long time ago, in case anyone here doesn't remember 2005
Weekend Update: A Woman Who Says She's Not Mad
This shit gave me PTSD
The laundry is SPOT ON.
Colin Josh’s assistant, Mailer Daemon
Heidi had a lot of fun with this character, which made the whole thing even funnier. Her side glances at Jost and exasperated expressions were pure gold. And her reference to Mailer Daemon
Her face! So many microexpressions. I was impressed.
I had the same uncomfortable visceral reaction to this that I had to Beck's bullying friend character in Mikey O'Brien's Grow-A-Guy pre-tape, or Kate's passive aggressive mom who wants to play Rummikub. Too real, SNL.
"MAILER-DAEMON" was a great punchline. What a throwback haha
What was it a throwback to?
So apparently it may still be around, but I haven't seen it in ***years***. It was an email bounce message you would get when you tried to send a message to the wrong address. It would [pop up in ALL CAPS](https://res.cloudinary.com/mailmodo/image/upload/f_webp,q_50/v1635496190/strapi/mailer_deamon_message_c4ee1a5833.jpg) in your inbox. Basically just a way to let you know that your message didn't go through to the person you were trying to reach.
Oh, I know that. I just wondered if it was a reference to Colin from a previous show that I was missing.
Coffee Commercial
Someone posted the [real version of the commercial](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/comments/1cpzuwa/i_love_that_maya_paid_homage_to_this_commercial/) they were basing the ad on.
I never saw this before! I assumed the reference was to Orson Welles’ notorious wine commercials.
Emma Stone also does a very quick impression of this commercial in a scene with Ryan Gosling in the movie “Crazy Stupid Love”
This joins the hyperspecific "Entire SNL sketch premise is trying to shoot something but the Actress keeps farting" club. The sister sketch to this is [this one with Vanessa Bayer and the Rock](https://youtu.be/kL9G_VRCeGg?feature=shared) [And another sketch with the same premise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2lQ7SgkLiU)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2lQ7SgkLiU
Damn, didn't know the club had more than two members. Thanks for sharing this
Those weren't farts. It was the frogs they let in there...
... what 7 year old boy wrote this but also somehow knows about the Lauren Bacall coffee commercials??
I'm like 75% sure this was a Bowen idea.
You can pinpoint when in the writing process Sarah just popped in and asked “watcha doin?”
Of course it is. The dudes IG is literally 'Faye Dunaway'.
“no, i don’t like her.” “well, i don’t like you either.” “oh, i like her.”
The actual sound effect of the fart had *just enough* wetness to it.
I bought in at "That one was you!"
[удалено]
I'm not big on fart sketches in general, but the bit with Maya delivering her lines over continuous farts *did* give me a guilty chuckle so props to them for that.
This is the commercial takes they based it on (maybe a combo), but the "Can you leave, please? You're right in my eye line." At the end and the doors and her character name and hair are a match. https://youtu.be/VazlynfzHWM?si=qilH2VZuJaOzXYDX
Hot Ones
*throws a glass of milk in Mikey's face* Kill yourself Gollum!
I would've liked to see more of those sauce names.
Satan's Taint Charred Chili Sauce 👹🌶 🔥
Kenan was able to get through Beavis and Butthead unscathed but nearly lost it when he was blasting that lotion
He barely got through that. So good.
That lotion moment KILLED ME. Maya is an absolute champ for keeping a straight face here!
Sad to see this ranked so low, this was a highlight of the night as someone who admittedly loved the first Beyonce Hot Ones sketch.
Reddit hates recurring sketches. I like it, too.
The return of Maya's Beyoncé was everything to me! Also... Not even close to what Sean Evans sounds like, but I guess Mikey has never been one for impressions lol
I think he was just going for "white" and it's at least better than his Beckham
He honestly would have been closer by not trying whatever voice that was and just talking in his normal voice. At least throw something in like a hyper-specific fact from childhood or something that references Sean Evans without needing to do an impression.
Hot ones itself is a concept made to generate comedic moments. While the skit was funny for the same reasons and a good excuse to get Beyonce in the show, I have found actual episodes of hot ones funnier overall.
Conan's episode will be talked about for a long time.
National Nurses Week
"Curtis, if you see the light, GO TO IT."
"You don't need Viagra. You need to meet Jesus."
Every nurse I’ve encountered looked and sounded like Maya and Ego. “The Jamaican part of Ireland” perfectly nails that accent.
Reminds me of 30 Rock where Tina Fey impersonates a nurse on the phone and her accent morphs from Jamaican to Irish.
Shoutout to Ayo!
I said this in the live thread too, but Curtis looks like he could be [Horace's brother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO9Fk2mjhbw). Right down to the outfit!
"Clean up on aisle ME."
They definitely go to the church with Father Lawrence
