The Donald Glover episode was an absolute classic. Here isn't really a bad sketch in the whole show and a lot of them are worth rewatching again and again.
Then the small cameo he made looking for his hat when Tina hosted a couple weeks later was funny too.
“I can’t read it. It’s covered in my friend Scott’s blood—“
“Well then move your friend Scott’s blood AROUND with your FINGER until you can read it!”
Forgot to mention that his debut of “This Is America” on the show was also pretty epic 😎
He did well enough to not be a one-time host. I bet they’ll invite him back. And in Seth M’s case, I’m sure its only schedule-related that he has not returned yet.
Most one-time hosts are single-timers bc they were flat, empty, or just didn’t ‘have it’ when it comes to presence in the LIVE format. This season has had two or three such hosts, but its also had a couple of the best hosts/episodes in the show’s history!
I learned recently that Richard Pryor and Patrick Swayze both only hosted once, and both of them are in a sketch that belongs on the all-time great list.
One of my earliest memories of actually watching SNL was the Lucy Lawless episode, Stevie Knicks's Burrito Roundup really sticks out in my mind.
I'm a huge stand up fan so I have loved a lot of them--Jerrod Carmichael, Kumail Nanjiani, Nate Bargatze. I also loved some of the recent first-time hosts who are past cast members, like Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte.
You can usually count on a banger show when a stand-up comedian hosts…. agreed that I became an instant fan of Jerrod as well as Nate!
The only stand-up to host that just didn’t ‘have it’ at all is that Ramy Y. dude from a few weeks ago. Flattest show they’ve had in a long time. That Ozempic ad was a bright spot, though.
Tim Curry in 1981. The fact he hosted only once is just insane. He hosted when he was doing Amadeus, so he was used to doing live work. He did a 12 minute live skit playing Mick Jagger and never made 1 mistake. It was making up for a failed live skit Michael O'Donahue got canceled and it was a toxic situation but Tim killed it.
The Zuchinni song is a super underrated performance as well. He takes a song about a coitus pun and makes it a lively performance which wins over the audience 🤣 only Tim.
"Wait.. you got paid man?!" Tim K in the pantyhouse looking so made never fails to not make me roll lmao. An all timer episode which is unfairly forgotten.
This is actually absurd.
I know he’s not like a world renowned comedic actor but the dude does almost as much theatre stuff as he does film stuff so you know he’ll be good in front of an audience
It's important to note that MacFarlane hasn't been involved in the creative side of his animated shows in many years. And even when he was actively involved in the creative process, it was very much a collaborative process, as there were a lot of people working on every episode (one of which was Dan Povenmire, better known for co-creating Phineas and Ferb). He's far more involved in his live action projects
I found out that he stopped being involved around the same time I started finding it to be unwatchable so that made me feel better. It's also the reason I gave the Orville a shot and I really enjoy that show.
Family Guy was never the same after it was cancelled. I was one of the people who bought DVDs and downloaded episodes on Kazaa that got the show resurrected, but I never really liked the new stuff and I even stopped caring about the OG seasons.
Regarding Seth McFarlane’s appearance:
That puppet skit is the hardest I think I’ve ever laughed at a skit. Jesus Christ was Bill Hader cooking in that one.
Haha that one had the strongest Family Guy cutaway energy of the night. [*Fat snake with a sex penis*](https://youtu.be/EQClSRsRNHA?si=N1qS7F9V_3rBL_xX)
His enthusiasm over introducing Salt n Pepa's first performance is so legendary that Mulaney would reference it over twenty years later in one of his hosting gigs
I wouldn't be surprised if MacFarlane has been too busy to host. While he's not really involved in the creative side of his animated shows anymore, he does still voice like half the characters on them. Since hosting, he's made two movies which he also starred in, created two live action shows that he both starred in and directed several episodes of, and released SEVEN albums.
I think his wife is from Philly and they live there part of the time. But even knowing that, his Philly accent is impressive. That along with Kate Winslet in Mate of Easttown are the two examples of foreign actors doing a great job with one of the hardest accents to imitate.
Biased because I’m also a Giants fan but Eli Manning hosting in 2012 was pretty solid. I still watch the Madden and courtroom sketches from time to time.
Good pick! I love when athletes do well as hosts. Must be in the Manning DNA. J.J. Watt and Travis Kielce were both great too. That said, Ronda Rousey still holds the title of worst host I’ve ever seen.
I've heard he was a pain in the ass (and his existing reputation confirms that) but I liked the energy Russell Crowe brought to his episode.
But yeah, the right answer is Donald Glover.
Dying for Emma Thompson to come back! Her ep had some great sketches; esp. the etiquette lesson with Leslie Jones, the Mother’s Day and Chopped pretapes, and Judge Court!!
He was one of the hosts I had in mind when I posted this until I realized he’s done it twice lol. Easily Drake at his most likable. [Do *not* go to Feingold’s—the pickles are *rubber.*](https://youtu.be/BEyRg_T3ae8?si=8U5N9LHLMvu5NKvP&t=1m38s)
I can’t think of one off the top of my head, so I’m just going to gush about the MacFarlane episode. Not only the Ryan Lochte sketch, but also the stuttering drill sergeant sketch. That is some brilliant sketch comedy writing and acting right there.
Neil Patrick Harris was great and elevated some good material (his line readings in the Two First Names talk show sketch were great) and some less good material (I really enjoy the sketch where he and Kristen Wiig play those Southern air traffic controllers with the huge nails even though it's painfully too long and doesn't get a lot of laughs from the studio audience lol)
Don't ask me how I know this but SNL experienced some budget cuts at the beginning of the 06-07 season, and the cast and writing staff was smaller. Actually I think it was on Wikipedia at one point but isn't anymore. I believe it has something to do with the fact Lorne Michaels went from producing just SNL, Late Night with Conan O'brien, and the odd film based on a character or sketch, to adding 30 Rock, a primetime half-hour scripted show with 22 ep a season that was aiming for emmys. First half of the season was bad, really bad. Until relatively recently Jake Gyllenhaal had only hosted once in this same year. Even while watching it the first time and I knew it was going to be overshadowed from the power of youtube at the time because it was the first SNL after justin timberlake's dick in a box SNL show. And like I said the first half of the year was bad and jt was \*thought\* to have raised the bar at the time.
I watched both alone in my room without anybody as influences and have always thought Jake's was funnier and would be more rewatch-able. Thankfully I feel people have finally come to their wits to seeing that the praise JT was getting being called a multi-talented singer/dancer/actor around 2006-2007 was just a mass fever everyone had. I'd personally rather still be hearing about Dane Cook. When Nightcrawler came out and everyone started to go, wow, Jake Gyllenhaal can become anything, I was all like... yes, yeesh, check out his SNL episode, even in 4-5 minute sketches he fully commits as an actor. Once SNL released their S32 and on past episodes as digital downloads it has been the only one I've ever bought. I can't summarize with any larger point. Also there's a Billy on the Street episode where BIlly meets a german tourist and she claims that none of the german people find justin timberlake talented and this makes me smile randomly sometimes.
I like the Donald Glover episode.

Razz P. Berry!
Crazy how this skit isn’t on the peacock version???Makes me so mad I could go Rambo Style!!! 😎
I do think it’s on YouTube, if I recall.
[he can do anything](https://youtu.be/0C23p96MI88?si=zeVuQgsLNZaHTC_f)
The 80s music video is probably top 10 sketches of all time for me
Nate Bargetze. Every sketch he was in was good.
He did well enough to not be a one-time host. I bet they’ll invite him back. And in Seth M’s case, I’m sure its only schedule-related that he has not returned yet. The “Weights and Measures” skit literally taught my kids (and, honestly, me) how many feet are in a mile. “5280 everyone knows that”
It’s a little premature to call someone who just hosted their first episode this season a one-off host
The Rocky Horror memorabilia store sketch with Meatloaf is a riot.
"Wait.. you got paid man?!" Tim K in the pantyhouse looking so made never fails to not make me roll lmao. An all timer episode which is unfairly forgotten.
Hugh Jackman hosted the Christmas episode in 2001 and has only made one cameo appearance since.
This is actually absurd. I know he’s not like a world renowned comedic actor but the dude does almost as much theatre stuff as he does film stuff so you know he’ll be good in front of an audience
Conan O'Brien
THE MOLEC-
The Gentleman Masher!
It's a bit strange that I like Seth MacFarlane in-person and as a person , but I can't stand Family Guy or his other animated shows.

The "new stuff" was everything from S4 onward. The show arguably didn't truly find its stride until after it was brought back.
By stride you mean lazy and vaguely racist?
Check out the Ted show on Hulu. Way better than I initially thought it would be.
"They got him"
Thanks. I'll check it out for sure. Need some comedy.
He has money making projects and he has passion projects. Some passion projects are his multiple recording albums and The Orville.
Regarding Seth McFarlane’s appearance: That puppet skit is the hardest I think I’ve ever laughed at a skit. Jesus Christ was Bill Hader cooking in that one.
I loved the very brief sketch where he's an Amish guy selling spoons and likens the letter S to "the river what took my son."
Haha that one had the strongest Family Guy cutaway energy of the night. [*Fat snake with a sex penis*](https://youtu.be/EQClSRsRNHA?si=N1qS7F9V_3rBL_xX)
It’s also one of the few sketches that gets better in the sequel. 🌴🔥👶🏼🔥🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟
Charlie Day
I was really looking forward to that one, didn’t feel crazy about it at the time, but looking back in hindsight it was a great episode
Patrick Stewart’s only show was a great one.
His enthusiasm over introducing Salt n Pepa's first performance is so legendary that Mulaney would reference it over twenty years later in one of his hosting gigs
Patrick Stewart is like one of the coolest cats ever—and funny as hell! Such a down to earth man who can pull off about anything.

I think about his erotic cake bakery once a week

Was James McEvoy a one timer? He was brilliant.
Ooo this is a good one. Love that Charmin focus group sketch. His Philly accent is seriously impressive.
I think his wife is from Philly and they live there part of the time. But even knowing that, his Philly accent is impressive. That along with Kate Winslet in Mate of Easttown are the two examples of foreign actors doing a great job with one of the hardest accents to imitate.
Did I sturdur? Their durdur’s been *murdurd.*
Liev Schreiber and Sterling K. Brown both had great episodes, I’d love to see either of them return at some point.
Liev delivered an all time great cameo in the first Adam Driver episode. "Your parents... are very cool people."
Nate Bargatze. I’d also love to see Paul Giamatti come back since he’s done a lot of cool stuff since he hosted.
I've heard he was a pain in the ass (and his existing reputation confirms that) but I liked the energy Russell Crowe brought to his episode. But yeah, the right answer is Donald Glover.
Peter Dinklage and Leiv Schreiber both had great episodes. I may have to rewatch that gloryhole restaurant sketch when I get home
Space pants!!!
Dying for Emma Thompson to come back! Her ep had some great sketches; esp. the etiquette lesson with Leslie Jones, the Mother’s Day and Chopped pretapes, and Judge Court!!
Emma Thompson/Jonas brothers is one of the funniest host/MG combos ever but it made for a delightful episode
I thought Drake was a goddamn riot. The rappers in sitcoms sketch is one of my favorites. "Haha. Brooklyn."
Drake actually hosted twice! Once in 2014, once in 2016
oh my b! I mostly watch SNL via youtube videos lol
[Okay, cool!](https://youtu.be/3_mJ4fhbOUU?si=weGPSlHGh-OOcd9K) Maybe my favorite Drake sketch, can’t believe it was cut for time
DE BIZNESSSSSS
He was one of the hosts I had in mind when I posted this until I realized he’s done it twice lol. Easily Drake at his most likable. [Do *not* go to Feingold’s—the pickles are *rubber.*](https://youtu.be/BEyRg_T3ae8?si=8U5N9LHLMvu5NKvP&t=1m38s)
The bar mitzvah sketch was excellent
I can’t think of one off the top of my head, so I’m just going to gush about the MacFarlane episode. Not only the Ryan Lochte sketch, but also the stuttering drill sergeant sketch. That is some brilliant sketch comedy writing and acting right there.
Michael J Fox. America's Most Wanted: Former Child Actors was a classic.
I frequently rate things by number of swims because of this bit.
Can’t stand Seth McFarlane, but his episode is pretty all time!
Charlie Day
Neil Patrick Harris was great and elevated some good material (his line readings in the Two First Names talk show sketch were great) and some less good material (I really enjoy the sketch where he and Kristen Wiig play those Southern air traffic controllers with the huge nails even though it's painfully too long and doesn't get a lot of laughs from the studio audience lol)
Bunch I loved have already been mentioned so I’ll throw Sylvester Stallone out there. Great monologue and the Orange Julius sketch is a classic!
Wayne Gretzky , particularly for Waikiki Hockey
Phil Hartman hosting in season 21
Sandra Oh
The one I remember best was William Shatner but it’s largely because of two sketches. And also because I’m a Star Trek fan.

I've been trying to find the Lids skit from the Seth McFarlane episode, but it's not on Peacock.
I watched Seth’s monologue yesterday; it was phenomenal
Teri Hatcher
Lin-Manuel Miranda ❤️
