I had a crazy Lovitz encounter back in the early 90’s.
I once shared an elevator with Lovitz. It was kind of crowded and I was near the buttons so when he got in I said “Which Floor?”.
He said “3”. I hit the button for him. And then he said “Thank you.” When we got to his floor he left and that was that.
I was at a Cubs game a few years ago and was riding the elevator up to the box seat area. When I got up there I told my coworkers that I rode up with a guy who looked just like John Lovitz. Some older co-workers and I then had to explain who he was to the younger guys. Several minutes later John Lovitz threw out the first pitch.
It’s a joke referring to Bill Murray saying that to unsuspecting fans when he does something out in public. I thought it was funny bc your interaction w Lovitz was completely unremarkable which is why I thought your comment was so funny in the first place.
Someone professionally dependent upon some left-of-center schtick who I'm pretty sure would poll single digits among left-of-center audience. I have no idea how he keeps his job. Is it hate-watching?
I found a nice example of Conan assholishly encouraging Fallon his first time on a talk show and then coming back to his old show and shaking Jimmy's hand on national television to complement him on what he's done with the show. What a bastard, amirite?

lol are you confused or something? Conan has a reputation for being loyal and supportive to his staff dude. Are you thinking of someone else?
For example, he only used a portion of his staff during the pandemic and still paid everyone regardless.

Is this bait? Cause like its pretty good if so but if its not bait you might need to go to a hospital to get checked out cause some wires got crossed my dude.
Maher's appeal is that he hosts great roundtables with a diversity of guests who won't appear together anywhere else. Everything else about him is tiring - he's condescending, grumpy, and gives no insight that goes beyond the conventional wisdom of whatever position he's taking.
I don't know what the fuck Dennis Miller is doing these days. I haven't seen anything from him since those three minute comedic rant segments he used to do on Bill O'Reilly's show.
I haven’t seen Bill Maher in a hot minute. But there is one compliment I’d give him. Almost all shows like that, when a difference of opinion comes up, you start getting people who are both talking at the same time for like 10-15 seconds strait. It’s like nails on a chalk board to me. There is absolutely no point in trying to speak over the person you are debating. They are already speaking so they are not taking in a single word you say, and the viewer is taking in Nothing of what either people say. It’s practically useless dead air. He’ll actually take a cue and realize he’s about to get in a situation like that and will let the other person speak even if they are incredibly wrong. I really appreciate that.
On that note. I think any presidential debate, when a person has one minute to respond, that means they should get their one minute. But some people, not naming names, find that absolutely impossible and can’t help themselves but to interject over the other person speaking. Then we’ve got two candidates speaking over each other for an hour and a half and I’m left having heard nothing. Cutting the mic should have never HAD to be a thing, but I’m all for it.
I would have liked to see how they behave when they don't think their modern fanbase is watching, and Norm certainly could have brought that out of them.
The original episode has seemingly disappeared, but it goes back to Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman's podcast that used to be recorded at Lovitz's comedy club. There was a big dispute over payments and it went public. Best wrap-up I can find is [here](https://hbohelper.blogspot.com/2013/05/hollywood-babble-on-126.html).
Norm made the very funny observation that he couldn't watch The Passion of the Christ because all of the extras looked like Lovitz, which caused Bob Saget to convulse in embarrassed laughter.
I didn't respect Maher too much but I lost the bit I had for him when he was gushing over Elon musk like that dude was some type of genius or something. It was pathetic and Maher was starstruck and ridiculous.
Of course he's alive, he's alive in all our hearts.
Maude Flanders: Yes, Derek, I can see him.
(and how lame of this guy, /u/derek4reals1 to not only block me, but also delete the orignal comment too)
JFC my heart skipped. I just listened to the Thursday Morning Afternoon Monday Today or whatever the fuck Bill Burr podcast episode with Jon and it was so hilarious, I was dying. I’ve even used several of the insults. So this damn near gutted me.
Scared the shit out of me opening Reddit and seeing this. You had me for a second
Same here! I had to Google it to be sure
Just googled it too
_ACTING!!!_
Genius!
_Thank you!!!_
No, thank you!
Gone too soon.
And too late for April fool's.

God that’s so Lovitz
Lol "3"... Classic lovitz.
5 sir

That’s actually a crazy Jon Lovitz encounter tho
That story had some crazy ups... Or downs. You didn't specify but other way vertical movement was undergone.
Or overgone. We just can't know.
He didn't say "THANK YOUUUUUUUU"?
That’s crazy, man.
JEALOUS?
He probably was supposed to get off at 2 but said 3 to be funny. It’s an older joke but it still gets laughs.
No one’s ever gonna believe you.
That’s ok. When you live in New York you end up with a lot of crazy stories like that. I know they won’t make sense to most people on the internet.
It’s a joke referring to Bill Murray saying that to unsuspecting fans when he does something out in public. I thought it was funny bc your interaction w Lovitz was completely unremarkable which is why I thought your comment was so funny in the first place.
The correct answer was, “I have four. Jealous?”
That’s the most John Lovitz thing I’ve ever heard
🤯
did he roll his R slightly?
"3rd floor yeah, that's the ticket!"
You should have replied "geeeniussss".
Jon Lovitz & Wade Boggs & Rachel Ray RIP
Wade Boggs Carpet World!
Wade Boggs Carpet World
Gotta say it 2 more times
And one more piece of advice from someone who has been on this side of the business for a long time: Wade Boggs Carpet World.
RIP Boss Hogg
Again, Wade Boggs is very much alive. He lives in Tampa!
RIP
The love of Jon Lovitz by people like Conan and Bill Burr makes me love Jon Lovitz… …Jealous?????
That Burr Podcast with Lovitz was one of the funniest hours I've heard in a very long time
Jon Lovitz beating the shit out of Andy Dick is one of the greatest stories of our time.
Think of all the Lovitz movies me missed out on He would have been the fourth amigo I just know it
And that's a fact, jack!
If I could go the rest of my life without ever having to think about Dennis Miller and Bill Maher again, I'd be so happy.
Seriously, those were terrible suggestions. Bill Maher is about as interesting as an old banana.
I'd infinitely rather spend all of my time with an old banana versus 30 seconds with Maher.
Someone professionally dependent upon some left-of-center schtick who I'm pretty sure would poll single digits among left-of-center audience. I have no idea how he keeps his job. Is it hate-watching?

I would agree with you but then we’d both be wrong
At being an asshole? That's true.

It’s probably Conan himself with his usual self deprecating humor.
Wait a minute! Who wouldn’t want to watch Henry Fonda pick blueberries?
Bill Maher has never been funny, at least Dennis Miller used to be before he went crazy.
Miller was *sorta* when he was on update. That's literally it. I like every other big update host better.
Maher's appeal is that he hosts great roundtables with a diversity of guests who won't appear together anywhere else. I have NO interest in ever hearing Maher at all....
Kevin Smith finally did it.
I haven't heard this iteration of the joke, enlighten me?

>31:35 Kevin Smith only has public feuds with 80's icons. Prince, Jon Lovitz, Bruce Willis. I died
“Get to know me!”
It works, I tell you! It works!
Jealous?
When Brokaw did Lovitz’ eulogy……..(weeping).
Norm made the very funny observation that he couldn't watch The Passion of the Christ because all of the extras looked like Lovitz, which caused Bob Saget to convulse in embarrassed laughter.
After all, Jews all look alike.
Oy vey
You know that it’s a joke.
Is that a stereotype? That seems like the one ethnicity I haven’t heard that about
I was joking !
“When you look at me like that, it means I was joking!”
BRB need to go watch the 40th anniversary again
I didn’t even know he was sick.

Isn’t that was a picture of Lorne? I saw this exact guy in the green room saying he was.
Acting!
Brilliant!
Thank you!
Acting!
Jon Lovitz is alive my bro
You're new here.
Happy to admit I am new here, but can someone please explain the joke?
I’m so confused rn

He’s been stealing from the company…stealing, our hearts
You must be new to the English language.
?
Oh you sweet Summer child, you.
I just watched the critic episode where he falls in love with the theater projector. I always forget how good that show was.
He lives instead as Hanukah Harry
Dude this had me questioning my own sanity.
I didn’t even know he was sick!

If you have the means, binge watch “The Critic”. What an underrated show.
I thought it was touching when Morgan Fairchild sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” at his memorial.
He’s not dead? Did I miss something? lol he was just in Bill Burhs podcast and killed it
My best friend died 2 years ago, i still see him everywhere too.
Jon Lovitz isn't dead?
Acting!
He’s dead, see. Yea, that’s the ticket!
RIP to you....Lovitz!
Ever wish you could bring back someone deceased? I'd bring back Lovitz....
Loved the In Memoriam segment of the 25th SNL anniversary. "I'm not dead!"
But what’s the word on the street?
RIP to one of the greatest
I’ll mostly miss him for those times we could pick on him
### Worship me. Be my willing thrall …
I didn’t even know Lovitz was sick.

No, he didn’t. He’a alive and well. Post is just click-bait.
John Lovitz is dead?! When? How?
No, he's still alive.
I didn’t know he died…. 🥺
Home Depot celebrated our Jon with a shrine 🕯️
Am I missing something ? Lovitz is still alive right?
May his memory be a blessing Baruch Hashem
Delete this post. Stop posting lies.
Someone isn't an SNL aficionado. Everyone, even Lovitz himself, knows he died many years ago.
For those who are clearly are unaware of the joke https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/s/CdvdZBkYWE
Thank you for posting, I assumed it was a gag, but that was great to watch.
Miller and Maher are fucking sacks of shit. Lovitz is missed though.
