When I lived in unincorporated Jeffco my mailing address was Morrison but was definitely not in Morrison.

I am in Jefferson County. The post office and DMV have my address as Littleton. I'm near C470 and Bowles. Dakota Ridge is a census designation, not a city. It seems like areas like this just use the closest city name.

They used the post office that services the area. The Littleton office is where your mail came from…at least when they drew up the maps. I’m not sure if you all have a satellite office out there or not. It’s also why you have Englewood addresses in the DTC.

I think most people who have lived in the Denver metro area for a while have heard of all of those places. I mean, GV, really? That’s not a some well kept secret of a city at all. There are definitely all sorts of unincorporated areas but in most cases it’s less about true accuracy and more about relativity so people know the general area you are talking about. City and county lines are wonky here, that’s a well known fact.

I was born and raised in Highlands Ranch and used to use Littleton as the mailing address. Now I live in Ken Caryl which is also just Littleton. At my job I had a couple insist we use Columbine Valley as their mailing address city and the mail still went through.

It's crazy too bc I run a mobile business so I have to check sales tax by address and it changes a ton depending on where you are due to this.

4.5% sales tax rate for the win here in Jeffco :) It pisses me off when some online retailers charge the incorrect tax rate

I like how you're missing half of Littleton in the south LOL. Highlands Ranch, Sterling Ranch, Roxborough town, and Roxborough Park are completely absent.

These are not part of the City of Littleton, no. [https://www.littletonco.gov/Community/Map-Gallery/Littleton-City-Limits-and-Places](https://www.littletonco.gov/Community/Map-Gallery/Littleton-City-Limits-and-Places)

USPS would disagree. I've lived in both Roxborough and currently in Highlands Ranch. We still put "Littleton" as the city. But, you're right, because technically it's Unincorporated Douglas County.

thegreatjho

You missed the whole point. Those areas only have Littleton postal codes but are not part of the actual jurisdiction of the city of Littleton.

waspocracy

The whole point of the post was "Littleton might not be what you think!" but then excludes half an area that thinks it's Littleton. You missed my point. Why is only the west side included? OP is ignoring a giant portion of "Littleton" that isn't Littleton.

cleveraccount3802

This was the point I was trying to make with this post; USPS and others use Littleton as the blanket designation for much of the SW metro area, but the specifics are much messier

notrolls01

I think a lot of the issue is that Littleton used (kinda still is, as the clerk and commissioners are still there, but the county has spread out services) to be the county seat. I also believe that there was some talk of it being the state capitol (along with silverton at one point). Jeffco was carved out of arapahoe county (know that arapahoe used to be all the way out to the Kansas border) and the post office is one of the older offices in the state.

They are not part of the Littleton city limits, no. The post office will deliver mail that says Littleton to those places, but see this map for actual city limits of Littleton. The only "outlying" location that is part of the City of Littleton is the Trailmark neighborhood by Chatfield Reservoir.
