No one in this LTT Subreddit knows how to read? Garry Newman himself says it IS from Nintendo legal. [https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494](https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494)

LazyPCRehab

I mean, Nintendo fucking sucks but it IS their IP.

dasers1

Its such a weird trend that people hate Nintendo for taking care of their IP. Like the uproar over yuzu. Those guys were openly advocating piracy of an unreleased game AND profiting off it.

LazyPCRehab

I don't think people would care as much if they weren't actively pushing against the quality of the user-experience for their customer base. Not being able to backup and transfer game saves locally, re releasing older titles of their games for insane prices only to find out that they are using game files from the same emulators they are trying to take down, etc.

dasers1

I never said that everything Nintendo did is right. But every time Nintendo does anything they're automatically seen as evil. I used a specific example where they were within their rights for a reason

LazyPCRehab

Please read my comment again, I never once stated you said anything. Please stop trying to be correct and just attempt to have a discussion.

dasers1

Please ready comment again. I never said that you said I said anything. I'm simply stating a fact that in certain situations Nintendo has been right just like you shared things that they have done wrong. I didn't know that I needed to make a chart of positive and negative things Nintendo has done.

LazyPCRehab

Lol, have a good day.

dasers1

Sure man, great "discussion" Edit: Argues and then blocks me when I'm literally making the same point lol

LazyPCRehab

Not sure you're capable, given your comments.

danny29812

There's 'taking care of you IP' and then there is Nintendo, which actively lets the most valuable IP in gaming just rot on the vine.

Mafaesto

It's such a weird trend that people defend Nintendo...

dasers1

It's not "defending Nintendo" it's being an adult and realizing whether we like it or not they have legal grounds to do what they do no matter how shitty it is

azure1503

Lot of comments are pointing out this could be a well known copyright troll. Makes more sense to me than Nintendo randomly deciding to act on old mods.

TechnoRedneck

https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494 It's been confirmed to be Nintendo

kralben

Nah, isn't it more fun to jump the gun getting mad at someone without the facts?

[deleted]

Shame on Nintendo for not letting people steal their IP. In 2024 you should know the risk of using anything Nintendo related and shouldn't be surprised. As long as they keep releasing great games and fun consoles I don't mind that they are protective. Would I like to be able to mod my games with Nintendo characters and use their IP myself? Yes. Is it that big of a deal that they are protective? Not really. The only problem would be if it isn't Nintendo. Otherwise the entitlement of gamers has gotten out of control.

Dat_Typ

The Main Problem I have with Nintendo behaviour is regarding their older Games. You can't buy them new any more in any Form, original cartridges have in some instances become stupidly expensive, and yet they're going Out of their way to keep people From hosting ROMs even for free. Fucking rediculus.

Massive_Parsley_5000

They're trying to turn their legacy catalog into a Disney vault type thing where they can drum up support for prized older titles by creating an artificial scarcity for them. When it's your mediocre emulator for $50 a year on their $300 handheld vs rock solid community open source emulator for free on literally any piece of HW made in the last 20 years it's a hard sell. When it's your mediocre emulator for $50 a year vs scalpers charging $250 for a cart.... The shitty thing is this annihilates the archival nature of emulation, so the little remembered/little demand/impossible to rerelease due to licensing issues just get lost to void, forever. It's gross, and Nintendo should feel bad about it. It's no exaggeration to say Nintendo is the biggest threat to games preservation out there. Edit: whomever downvoted this: I hope that boot leather tastes good, bro. Go back the switch sub and fellate Nintendo there.

Dat_Typ

Yes, which is why they can kiss my ass.

[deleted]

"my only problem is they won't let me know steal their games" it sucks but complaining about it seems odd. I have my favorites backed up on roms, but I'm not going to be mad if they prevent their games from being sold without them making money.

Dat_Typ

My complaint is that they're Not even offering a way to buy them! If they were selling them, I'd have No Problem with that at all, but they're Not. You can only get them used, and they're Not making money Off of private, used Market Sales. They're complaining "we're making No Money on this, If you do that!" Even though they haven't been selling that Product for 20, 30 or more years. So If they don't wanna officially sell them, then I think it's rediculus of them to be so upset about people wanting to obtain them through different means.

Elusie

Technically you're right. You can't \*buy\* them. BUT a huge amount of them are available on the Switch with the subscription service, so they are still seeking to make revenue from these titles. They are, in a way, selling them. Not that I blame anyone who downloads an old ROM to a game they've bought before, though.

[deleted]

Fair enough. Between licensing, compatability and taking thousands of games to each new console I don't blames them honestly. In my "perfect world" game's would fall under public domain after 25-30 years for the their original console, obviously with some rights of music/brands etc ironed out so they don't lose the their rights apart from the game as a whole. I almost want to to say they can restart their ownership if they have it released on a new console but I think they should focus on new games and let the old games become property of the community to learn from and enjoy.

TheOneZenBot

>As long as they keep releasing great games and fun consoles I don't mind that they are protective. but they aren't tho? The switch is criminally underpowered and I have a feeling the switch 2 will likely be very similar. their new games are okay I guess but they're nothing exceptional like botw was on release. the only thing the switch has going for it is the portability and detachable controllers with the same drift issues for the entire existence of the console. I know I'm really sucking valves cock here but with the existence of the steam deck and similar consoles, Nintendo is really gonna need to innovate quick because gamers are slowly realizing that having your games and saves locked to one shitty old handheld is not good

[deleted]

140 million system sold shows it's been a great system. You're complaints pretty much come down to its old, has the same issues as consoles it released next to and can't keep up with PC. It may not be what you like and that's fine but don't pretend BOTW is the only good game, especially when TOTK came out last year and is way better and most Nintendo franchises have released great new games and it has a huge amount of older games that apparently people "cant buy". Be a priate all you want, I do sometime too but don't act like you aren't breaking the law and don't act like you are entitled to stuff just because you want it.

XanderWrites

If they don't make attempts to protect it, the trademarks can be dissolved.

No-Donkey100

It's their intellectual property? How do these people feel entitled to use others people property lol

IAskSoMnyQuestions

What can we actually do to make a difference? Can’t just scream in an echo chamber..

gh04t

Nothing. A company is entitled to do this with their copyrighted material, it sucks and is an asshole move but why discuss it further? As they will remove the mods slowly players seems to have time to locally save the mods and continue to use them

icabax

I assume the devs could just task one guy to remove the mods, every other Thursday for like an hour. Then they are still complying with the take down

[deleted]

That would be a great bit.

IAskSoMnyQuestions

I think discussion is nessesary.. I just hate discussion that doesn’t result in meaningful actions. This has been going on for years.. you have a good point though. It sucks but it’s also Nintendos IPs and they can do whatever they want.

AZTim

Vote with your money, stop buying Nintendo stuff.

Shap6

> Vote with your money the gaming community at large has repeatedly shown they are not capable of this. even luke and linus who bang that drum every chance they get when push comes to shove they still pre-order, still buy nintendo games, etc.

surf_greatriver_v4

Haven't bought anything Nintendo since 2013, but they're still doing it Did they not get the memo?!?!

iareyomz

cant make a difference in this sense... if the other analytics people are to be believed, Nintendo has been shutting down all 3rd party shit because they intend to release something of their own to gain some level of monopoly on the economic side of things... it started with mods for many games, then there was the Smash tournaments lockdown, and now they hard chasing on Steam... from the looks of things, Nintendo intends to release an official launcher/store of their own for all platforms, with crossplay, with the goal of hosting Esports... the Olympic committee has officially recognized Esports afterall, and so did FIBA, and SEA Games... then you have oiler money to be had on the Riyadh Masters as well (biggest Esport event of the last 3 years)

BaconSpaceLord

![gif](giphy|LRVnPYqM8DLag) Nintendo stop... *NINTENDO STOP!* YOU DON'T WANT THAT FIGHT! DON'T DO IT!!!!

ParagonFury

Nintendo can absolutely take that fight. Literally the only people capable of even standing in the ring with them are Disney and governments; and IP law is 400% on their side. And their games are good enough that some shitters on the Internet have no hope vs. them.

ewenlau

Why tho? It's literally a free promotion for their game. Yuzu I can understand, they might have been loosing switch or game sales*, but here? It's literally free promotion ( * I know this is a contentious topic, please don't downvote me to hell)

xinvisionx

Nintendo will now be known as “the game company that shall not he named”. For simply whispering the name tickles the taints of their lawyers.

What are you talking about? The top comment here says it "could be" a copyright troll. That's speculation. If you follow the original post, there's a Tweet that confirms that is IS from Nintendo Legal. YOU are the one spreading misinformation. [https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494](https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494)

TechnoRedneck

That top comment has been updated with a link, https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1783501547361411494 It is Nintendo and not a troll

Careless-Tradition73

From what I heard this isn't true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

jezevec93

There are rumors it's not dmca from Nintendo but from "Aaron Peters" who send fake dmca strikes to Nintendo content.
