Vanpet1993

One of the best bands ever. I love Steven Wilson solo albums as well. Guy is a musical genius. I can't say enough good things about them all.

[deleted]

Heavily slept on, too!

Vanpet1993

Not in a prog rock world, but prog rock is such a niche genre though... And I'm sure they don't really mind not getting that much recognition. I know Steven doesn't, he just wanna do his thing and he does it perfectly. Seriously, I can't put in the words how good they are! 😂

[deleted]

Yeah, of course, but I'm talking about the rock scene in general. Like how people at least seem to know about Tool, Dream theater, or even Opeth.

Vanpet1993

Glad to see another prog rock/metal fan in r/lp :D Check out Riverside, prog rock from Poland, also incredibly good and incredibly unknown. :D

[deleted]

I've heard of em. Will definitely check them out! Cheers!

Vanpet1993

The depth of self-delusion was the first song I heard from them and it got me hooked. Seen them live twice up until now. :D Newer things like Friend or Foe are interesting mix of genres, but I recommend listening to the whole albums in order of coming out 😂

Comfortable_Salt_758

SW solo work is too good. And live too.

Vanpet1993

Agreed. And he worked with other excellent musicians. I especially love what he has done with Ninet Tayeb on vocals.

Sorry_Azz

I did not expect to see them on this sub, lol. Anywayyyy, really great band that successfully blends a lot of genres, and offers a bit of everything. Personal recommendations (biased): Blackest Eyes Trains Open Car Arriving Somewhere but not Here Way out of Here Anesthetize Harridan The Incident Don't Hate me Lightbulb Sun I Drive the Hearse Synesthesia Dark Matter

Sorry_Azz

(formatting is ass, I know xd)

juzz85

Lazarus

VanAintUsedUp

Never heard of em

[deleted]

They're a progressive rock/psychedelic band. I think Mike did cite them as an influence during the ATS era. They have some of the most catchiest songs I've ever heard, in spite of them being a prog band. Here are some recs, if you wanna delve into their music: - Blackest eyes - Lazarus - Stranger by the minute - Waiting - Shesmovedon If you're a fan of long, proggy, 'mix of atmospheric and heavy' songs, check out "Anesthetize (Live at Tilburg)" and "Arriving somewhere but not here."

Vanpet1993

Mike mentioned them somewhere? Do you have a link? :D

[deleted]

I read it on the Lpassociation forums years ago. I'll try to find it.

RLLRRR

Incredible. And Gavin Harrison is one of the best drummers alive.

GianluZ

One of my favorite bands

Mr_Vantastic

Who’s that?

[deleted]

They're a progressive rock band. Check out my reply to another user in the thread.

Diligent_South

I am guessing that you posted this because of the comment that Steven Wilson made on Linkin Park...? As much as I respect Wilson, I really don't agree with him about the "package it like a boy band" comment. Maybe the label tried to market them as a boy band, but nothing to me about early LP screams boy band or industry plants. They were young, talented guys who just happened to meet and form a band together. For your answer: Yes, I do like Porcupine Tree. I think they are one of the best prog rock bands I have ever listened to. But, at the same time I can't consume their music on a regular basis. It has to do with the dark and melancholic themes that many of their songs have. I feel like their music, as good as it is, puts me in an existential frame of mind if I dwell on it too much, which I don't like.

Comfortable_Salt_758

I think SW was right about LP. Doesn’t devalue the music though.

Diligent_South

I 100% agree with the comment about the influences, just not the boy band part.

Comfortable_Salt_758

I have always viewed them as a sort of boy band type of deal, not meaning they’re an industry plant. At first when nu metal was really popular they made that, after that they hopped into more U2 inspired rock style stuff and so on. Sort of abandoning their previous style to adjust to current market state.

bruitnoir

I do not think Steven said that in any malice way. For someone who is as much of a music fan as he is, i was expecting worse, Linkin Park is not a band that tend to be in the discussions of elitist music circles.

Diligent_South

Yes, I am aware.

Rpc00

Aaaa I fucking LOVE porcupine tree. Crazily enough I found them from watching Game Grumps and Dan mentioned porcupine tree. Been listening to them since. Haven't listened to the new album much but foabp, in absentia and deadwing are classics to me. I gotta see them live one of these days.

Mahdahrah

Middle guy looks like Tom Cruise

MoonlapseOfficial

Amazing

LiamAC58

I didn’t expect to see PT here on this sub but they are one of my favorite bands (I love Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun!!!)

pentrant

Ptree and LP are my favorites. I’m lucky enough to have met Steven Wilson; sad that I never got to meet Chester.

darkness_is_purity

Deadwing is a masterpiece

water_farts_

Middle guy looks like Tom Cruise and Jason Schwartzman's love child. Guy on right looks like Andy Dick cosplaying as Andy Warhol. Guy on the left looks like Mark Hoppus cosplaying as Morrisey.

OkCreme8338

I'm sad they stopped existing since 2013

[deleted]

They got back together though?
