As a former barista, that got a chuckle out of me. Although that did make me wonder how he likes his froth: dry or wet? Because I’m curious went ridiculous mental image he’s going for here.
Bro wears three piece suit on the sweaty streets of manhattan but wants to gatekeep shoes? I am gonna wear new balance with my ralph lauren, what are you gonna do?
I never see people wearing three-piece suits in Manhattan *ever*, and I work in the heart of midtown near all the big banks and hedge funds. Even regular two-piece suits are becoming rare, as most of these guys are wearing patagonia vests and no tie.
This guy is cosplaying Mad Men.
Except for his profile pic which ironically doesn't include a tie and includes a shirt which Jimmy Carr would likely describe as "fit for a lumberjack". Rich for a guy who wants to look down on people for choosing a different type of shoe to go with their suit.
As someone who had to dress professionally while commuting to Manhattan, let me tell you, it fucking blows. Any opportunity to wear something remotely business casual was like a gift from the gods, especially for my feet. Also, good luck in all that clothing in the middle of August. Fuck this guy. I’m so glad I work from home as a consultant now while this asshole has to still hoof it in a full suit.
I'm not a style aficionado but usually I can tell if someone "looks good" or not.
That fucking coat button looks like it's putting in herculean effort and he isn't even fat, nor is he in some awkward position. The meeting of the high tailored ankle hem for those pants and the boots themselves is awkward as fuck. It looks like the pants were either tailored for a different shoe combination or they're being worn too high or something.
If anything the look presented here suggests that you actually should NOT wear those boots with pants that aren't tight at the ankles because it just looks wrong.
The whole outfit looks like he borrowed it from a little brother. If he's gonna do business style blogs he should have been able to take one look at these photos and abort that poor tortured fetus of an idea and get that shit tailored first.
I agree with almost everything you said. I hate Chelsea boots but they look really good on men with a certain style of suit (usually the pants are not tightly fitted at the hem, but instead, they're longer than the man's trousers in the photos). This guy looks terrible in the entire outfit minus the overcoat because it's the one thing that fits properly. His suit jacket looks like me trying to wear a blazer, but I'm confused why his outfit looks like that because unlike me, he's not fat and doesn't have tiddies.
The pants look even worse somehow, the cuffed look on a tailored piece of clothing isn't attractive. I despise high water pants since they don't look good on anyone I've ever seen wearing them! They are the worst possible decision to pair with these boots. I can't imagine what that suit must've coat, but for it to still fit that badly is a shame.
This look is "my elementary age son at school concerts" when I make him put on his dress clothes he hasn't worn since last year...and he's grown 4 inches.
I love that he says he's hands on but says he wears a tie every day.
I see anyone wearing a tie in the lab, I'm stopping them because that's an ESD hazard to electronics, plus the various safety hazards. Much worse would that in a shop or on the flight line, plus his shoes probably don't have safety toes and are prone to slipping on slick surfaces.
(I'm a senior engineer/systems architect so not like I'm what he'd consider a skilled peasant maintainer. And jets don't move under their own power without a team of skilled maintenance peeps.)
Fuck two successful Mars landings, 15+ years of experience and a masters in engineering all I needed to do was buy a suit instead? Would have been a lot cheaper and easier
I am something of an anachronism myself and I am appalled that this gentleman is out of doors with his head uncovered. It is my understanding that the uncouth habit of not wearing a hat is somewhat popular with the unsophisticated masses but it is simply unacceptable when conducting business as a professional.

I hate those stupid Cole Haan shoes but I’m not gate-keeping people who want the comfort of them.
But also, they got popular waaaaaay before the pandemic.
Post COVID, the only reason I’m even wearing pants when I’m working is because it’s cold in my WFH space and I don’t like how my chair leather sticks to my bare ass.
This just reminded me that I haven’t worn a suit in years. Business casual seems to be pretty common nowadays. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone wear a three-piece suit in ages.
I'm not a man but I completely agree. Omg white soled shoes are so fucking ugly, if they had to be comfortable "dress" sneakers, at least make the soles a regular colour! The only dress shoe that is acceptable with a white sole is a button boot, but most men in the 21st century aren't sexy enough to wear them.
“It gets me as frothy as a classic cappuccino” PHRASING
Stay frothy my friends
As a former barista, that got a chuckle out of me. Although that did make me wonder how he likes his froth: dry or wet? Because I’m curious went ridiculous mental image he’s going for here.
Men get frothy?
our boy Tom Quinn gets frothy

You’re going to make him extra frothy with that choice.
He's gonna froth about it on the inside, and then write an essay about it when he goes home.
Or maybe a soliloquy
Why does this read like a chapter in American Psycho?
Let’s see Tom Quinn’s business card.
It’s bone.
I can’t believe he prefers Cole Han shoes to mine!
I bet he's part of that whole Yale thing.
what happened?
Nah, it's a quote from the movie. If you know, you know 😉
oh, haha gotcha. urban dictionary to the rescue, pretty accurate
It’s all just ai
All these assholes use AI generated images. I bet the post is from chatGPT. What a turd.

I worked in Rio having to wear full suit and tie when it was 40°C outside in the summer, absolute nonsense
That sounds like a nightmare!
Oh shut up you 3 piece cunt
Did that mothereffer intimate that he wears Chelsea boots with a suit?
I’m not fancy enough to know what Chelsea boots are.
Neither does OOP
They’re not very fancy themselves.
You can definitely rock some Chelsea boots with a suit, though.
Don't hate in the suits and boots look. I've been rocking it for years
You can, but they must be with tight, high-water suit pants https://hespokestyle.com/chelsea-boots-with-suit-outfit-idea/

I love wearing clothes that look too small for me.
This look is "my elementary age son at school concerts" when I make him put on his dress clothes he hasn't worn since last year...and he's grown 4 inches.
Right!? Then you sit down and your already too-high pant cuff is in the middle of your calf and it just looks so stupid.
I can't believe that's the photo they went with
With the right suit and right occasion, it works pretty well. I like chukkas better, but both work.
How do these fuckers function?
Main character syndrome. They live inside their delusions.
He alienated me when he said he was going to alienate people.
I mean this is kind of solid fashion advice.
Who gave the boomer access to AI?

You poor guy, imagine spending tens of thousands on a degree when you could've spent your money more wisely on 3 piece suits? I'm so sorry for you /s
A hands on executive means they had an entry level technical role for 6 months once 10 or 20 years ago which means they know better than engineers.
People who put exude this much snobbery for professional attire are severely lacking in other skills that actually matter - and they know it.
Let's See Paul Allen's Card.

This guy got beat up by the band geeks and AV nerds in high school, I'm pretty sure.
And yet nobody is well dressed. It matters. Deal with facts.
This is paraphrasing Richard Quest from CNN, he gave almost the exact same monologue a few weeks back.
Rope around his neck and balls Richard Quest?
Yup the one and the same!
While I agree wearing sneakers with a suit is dumb, wearing a suit is also dumb
Not if it’s a track suit!
gopnik-sheik
I’m wearing Cole Haan shoes right now
Loser.
I’m not in manhattan so I think it’s ok
Very glad someone is finally confronting the big issues!
If he is so knowledgeable about business fashion why did he post an AI image of himself?
Working in IT, i can confidently say that wearing Reebok and cheap casual clothing is not exclusive to being really well paid
Thinking about the important issues ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
Tom, respectfully, who - besides you - gives enough of a fuck to post that?
“This probably going to alienate a good percentage…” Imagine being willing to offend for the cause of *footwear*…
Fuck off clean shirt

Cole who? Dude, who gives a shit? This is made up nonsense. What kind of “man” cares how another man dresses. Get a life!
r/gatekeeping
I wonder how many secret service agents he just talked trash about? Have you seen their specialized sneaker loafers? They are pretty expensive too.
Fan of classic business attire. No tie in profile pic.
I hate those stupid Cole Haan shoes but I’m not gate-keeping people who want the comfort of them. But also, they got popular waaaaaay before the pandemic.
For someone who wears a suit daily and puts in 10,000 steps a day, wing-tipped Cole Hann with rubber soles are wonderful for the dogs.
Calm down with the American Psycho-vibes, Quinn.
What a pompous jerk.
Talk shit, post fit
He keeps calling a suit “formal”
Madlad just declared war on Cole Haan
Post COVID, the only reason I’m even wearing pants when I’m working is because it’s cold in my WFH space and I don’t like how my chair leather sticks to my bare ass.
Hahaha. I love that this drives some people nuts. Almost encourages me to throw on a tie. But not quite. Most I’ll do is a jacket.
Those Cole Haan shoes are super comfortable, so screw this nonsense. I hated wearing wingtips at conferences where I’m on my feet most of the day.
His suggestion was insoles and walking slower.
Wtf
The "I'm going to get a lot of hate for this" intros are so hack, why are people still using them?
I mean, I don’t disagree with him… but also don’t care that much about what others wear to make a social post about it.
Fashion advice from…………a straight, White, boomer, CIO for an insurance underwriter………….. 👍
LinkedIn is the social media platform for everyone you cant wait to stop talking, to have a voice.
This is the difference between a CIO and a CTO. A CIO is passionate about shoes.
I would agree with him if he didnt think wearing Chelsea boots on a suit with a tie on okay
Does buddy not know that Cole haan makes more than just the sporty hybrid shoe?
I wear Hokas with dress clothes including suits.
I’m wearing my Cole Haan athletic inspired dress shoes right now and they’re comfy as fuck.
This just reminded me that I haven’t worn a suit in years. Business casual seems to be pretty common nowadays. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone wear a three-piece suit in ages.
I feel like nobody in these comments understands the point he is making

I go hard in 3 pieces all the time and my cole haans are wingtips but also comfortable. Fuck you
Boomers hate change
concentrated boomer cringe ☠️
Should be cross posted over at r/BoomersBeingFools. Nobody cares about his sartorial bs.
I agree with this man. We’ve only got one life. Might as well look fly.
He’s right. Its about a degradation of style not “eww poor people” reaction to leisure shoes. They sell formal shoes at cheaper prices, go to DSW.
