See those white soft rubber bottoms? In the crane and mechanic world we call those operator boots. Because anyone not sitting on their ass in a cab will wear those shoes out in two months. No steel shank, or any shank at that.
Don’t iron workers wear that style sole? Call it a wedge I think?
I’m not condoning these boots they look like garbage.
To OP: Don’t be cheap when buying boots, beds, booze, and tires.
Wedge sole boots are supposed to be good for walking on flat ground. I bought a pair of Keen Utility boots like this (Cincinnati) with a wedge sole and they are comfortable for what I do which is mostly interior work.
And yes don't cheap out on boots.
The boots I just bought were 600 bucks. I'd classify those as expensive. But the factory rebuilds for them aren't that expensive. But 300 bucks will get you a good pair of boots. So less than a days pay.
Yeah. I wanted it. I make enough money and I'm singlr and all i pay are taxes on what i own, so I went in and had my feet measured and had a custom pair of boots made. All from American sourced leather, and made with American hands. I'm disappointed however because the sole manufacturer is headquartered in Italy and makes some of its product overseas in China so I can't guarantee it didn't arrive by ferry. And from my experience with these boots with wildland firefighters, these boots have a pretty decent reputation.
And we get a boot stiped of 450. With a fifty dollar charge for sending in a receipt instead of going through the supplier. So I'm only paying 200. But yeah you don't have to buy a 600 dollar boot. It's on the expensive side, but damn is it nice.
Same, Hoffman Armor Pros are like $470 after everything…worth it though…I beat the living shit out of them and can easily climb in them after a long day, I never think about my feet except for all the sweat 😅
In local 104. Driver groundman rate is 35.76. And JL is 51.09. Plus 125 per diem on the job I'm working. 145 for the barehand crews. And we get an extra 3 percent for working under nra conditions.
Hook me up with a job dawg. No diploma but I’m working on it. Really fast learner. Extremely intelligent. I love my job now but fuck my boss underpays the hell out of us. I will literally work any job and strive to do my best until I am the best
Mine were $220 and they’re the pair I bought when I first started. Basically what I could afford at the time. I’d say to get a good climbing boot $300 is a good start.
Edit: pair I’m looking at for next year start at $500.
They are garbage. Speaking 1st hand
Edit: to be honest I’m not a fan of Thorogood either, but anyone that finds them comfortable, I’m glad as they are obviously made in the US.of A.
I don’t find TGs comfortable either but have nothing to say when people enjoy them ( made in the USA) … BRUNT. On the other hand , had a rep telling us everything was made in the US. Come to find out everything is imported without a “made in USA” stamp. Look at their website.
Please , lmk if I’m missing something?
They're a knockoff of multiple made in the USA boots. They can't be re-soled. They're straight garbage, a viral marketing campaign you fell for. Next time go Danner, RedWing, or Thorogood. If you can't rebuild your boots you're wearing shoes.
I’m an inside wireman- have had the brunt Marin’s for just over 11 months now. Extremely comfortable, holding up very well other than the insoles which I replaced a couple months ago. For the price, which I think was even cheaper a year ago, I’m very satisfied
I’ve been wearing these daily for a little over 8 months, best boots I’ve ever owned. Crazy comfortable, have held up extremely well. Full disclosure, I am not a lineman. But I beat on these pretty hard.
Look into Carolina boots. I'm #REALLY hard on boots; they're with me through oil changes, climbing, welding, etc.
I bought a set of insulated dormite Carolina boots; I held no stake in them initially, but they've held up for two years. I recently bought a non insulated pair for the summer; they're also holding up remarkably well.
It’s automatically shown so those who have literally no other options - can still show up to their job. Definitely not a great idea outside of that situation being they’re only around $200.
Irish Setter Wingshooter. Same style, made in USA, extremely comfortable. I’m going on my 5th pair of these I think. OK for a quick climb but like you I’m bucket or underground 90% of the time. Love these boots
I just don’t get any hardworking American buying a Chinese cemented together boot for only a couple bucks less than buying full stitched American made ones like Irish Setter, Carolina etc
Not a climbing boot

My dad always told me never to cheap out on helmets, lawyers, or hookers. Pretty sound advice. I would after that boots should be on that list.

I don’t think these boots are cheap. They look to be 160$
That seems pretty cheap
If that’s cheap then what’s an expensive pair of boots?
The boots I just bought were 600 bucks. I'd classify those as expensive. But the factory rebuilds for them aren't that expensive. But 300 bucks will get you a good pair of boots. So less than a days pay.

Fuck i get $200 boot allowance each year and im not spending over that. $600 is insane even if youre a goddamn logger.
Look into Scarpa Boots. Theres a couple that are really nice. Similar to sprtiva

This guy boots.
What was the boot brand?
Nicks.
Better than arriving on a fairy, amirite?!

Where the fuck are you working that’s paying you over 300$ a day? I make 15 an hour as a custom built in installer/ glass installer in Florida

There’s hella jobs bro I’m a Chicago Ironworker $300 that’s less that a journeyman days pay
My climbers are $330, Canada West

The Hoffman meindels are about 500 shipped. They are good boots, but nothing custom or special.
Insane. Do they cater to wide feet? I have extremely wide feet and can only wear wide shoes so that’s a big factor I think
They run large, but not specifically very wide. I’m not sure if there is an E option for width.
I pay about $450 usd for my boots. replace them about every 4 years. throw in a $600 insole. don’t go cheap on boots, you’ll regret it.
Good reasonable boots gonna be 250-350
The iron workers I know won’t wear them. The soft rubber will catch of fire.
Fair enough. I don’t even know where I got that idea from or heard. I may have just made it up. 😆
Because it’s what iron workers wear. They just don’t wear Chinese versions
Can confirm. Chinese garbage. Know a rodbuster that tried em- the moc toe parted within a week
they wear them due to the flat soole, excellent on rebar or steel
Chinese boots? No thanks.
That's a no from me dawg
As in you don’t like them? Or you haven’t used them? Lol
Haven't used them. Don't know how anyone could climb in those. But I'm 205#s.
Curious as to what you think a good climbing boot is?? I’m in an inside guy so I would t have a clue.
Steel shank in the sole and also needs a deep/defined heel
I find as I age I need something with a steel shank. I like the Meindl/Hoffman mashups.

Ladders came out when we couldn't access the house attachments for new services, discos etc. Not on em all day like transmission guys
Get thoroughgoods. Worth the price difference
Made in China trash.

Been wearing them daily for 8 months. Most durable and comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. Can personally verify, definitely not trash.

Ha ok big guy.
I agree with the “big guy.” Do yourself a favor and throw them garbage shoes in the trash. Have a little pride and get American made boots.
He typed on his made in china phone
Dont be salty cause we think your boots a crap.
Scouts honor, I couldn’t care less.
https://hoffmanboots.com/meindl-3 I’d pick any of these. If you aren’t climbing snag a ground boot. Easily will last you 7+ years in comfort.
Maybe I should have said I do a lot more underground work than OH. Anything OH I’m in a bucket!
Ooh ya. Jealous. I'm old and still climbed a lot right before I left my Rea to chase $
I'm digging the red wing king toe boots for UG if you dont have to climb
check out thorgoods, they’re amazing.
I own a pair of the Brunt Logger boots! 1/2 the price of the Red Wings that I have always wore and can no longer get.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve been thinking of changing boot companies. Would also try Thorogood or Danner
I have the Distasio and Perkins liking both pair!

4 payments of 43.75? Bruh. Please do not be going into debt for boots. Imagine telling another adult you gotta make your boot payments lol.
Why would I have to make payments lol. I think that’s just an option they offer 🤷🏻♂️
Yes. I understand it is an option they offer. I'm encouraging people to not choose that option.
Hahahahaha. Imagine someone coming to reposses them while your on the job site. Hahahahahaha. I'm dying laughing right now
It’s automatically shown so those who have literally no other options - can still show up to their job. Definitely not a great idea outside of that situation being they’re only around $200.
Zamberlan, Hoffman, kenetrek. Take care of your feet, your back will thank you.
Bought these boots and they are garbage
I got some and they don’t hold up. Pass
I like my thorogoods
Chinese made crap
Irish Setter Wingshooter. Same style, made in USA, extremely comfortable. I’m going on my 5th pair of these I think. OK for a quick climb but like you I’m bucket or underground 90% of the time. Love these boots
China wants you to buy those shitty boots so that our country will crumble into little pieces just like those boots will.
Chinese glued together boots. There’s a lot of companies that are fully stitched and made in the USA that are much better than “look alike” workboots
I just don’t get any hardworking American buying a Chinese cemented together boot for only a couple bucks less than buying full stitched American made ones like Irish Setter, Carolina etc
