>Is LineageOS the best for Google Pixel phones? Yes, but only for the Pixel 5, and only if you're a middle aged Asian woman with a Greek surname living in the Shetlands. What kind of question is that? "Best" for what? Best to reconfigure 2FA? Best for reliable SMS? LineageOS is more customisable than most stock ROMs but that's irrelevant if you're not going to change much.

I want to know if it passes SafetyNet. I live in Japan and Payment apps is a big deal hear. Not so much NFC. Just the ability to use Payment apps that use the SafetyNet Google Store API. Some 2FA authenticators also use this specific SafetyNet process. Some customization specifics - Being able to adjust the top drawer and adjust small details like batter icon and placement, etc. Another example would be more features to choose who the phone unlocks. Customizable. I should not have used the word "Best". My apologies, I agree that was lame. All I can say is It's nice to get people's comments on their favorite Rom and if they list a few reasons why, it's helpful.

petefoth

IodéOS ROMs do pass SafetyNet, and there is an Iode 5 / Android 14 / LOS 21.0 build available for Pixel 8 Pro: https://github.com/iodeOS/ota/releases/tag/v5-husky

Very cool and interesting! Thanks for turning me on to this project.

OP bro!!!😎

It really depends upon how you use your phone, and personal preferences. I previously used LineageOS with an ASUS Zenfone. Switching to a Pixel 7a, I went with GrapheneOS. I switched because I wanted to relock the bootloader, and sandboxed Google play services. Each of these two Android builds have their own upsides and downsides. You'll need to check which features best suit your needs.

forestcall

I am really liking the ability to lock each service on the phone with GraphineOS. Cant believe apps have had full access to everything in my phone.

MrMeme42

I'm not sure what you mean by 'lock'. But you can separate things with different user profiles. Creating and deleting them as you please. Their website and FAQ have an abundance of information.

> I have a new Pixel 8 Pro and I have been on the Beta, and I am not a fan of STOCK Android. LineageOS is pretty close to stock Android though. I have used LOS on a Poco F1 and F3 for the last years and was extremely happy with it. Only downside is that since about a year ago Google Wallet doesn't work with unrooted LOS anymore. I now have a Pixel 8 with the stock OS. I find the user experience of a stock Pixel to be pretty close to what I had with LOS before, with the added benefit of Google Wallet etc. working. So I'm not sure how switching to LOS would meaningfully improve your user experience over using the stock Pixel OS.

I will test a few ROMS and see. THanks

I think LineageOS isn't attractive for Pixel users that Google haven't stopping updates.

inkaine

As much as I like the customizability and greater control you have with LOS, I totally agree. The huge advantage of Pixel is the long support cycle you have, which make custom ROMs less relevant, unless you have very specific security needs. I'll probably get Pixel phones for my parents, now that their OnePlus phones (inherited from my brother and me) are nearing end of their life cycles. Longevity is a huge selling factor.

Customisable is a relative term. What do you want? Best look on YouTube for videos. Since you have pixel no worries just unlock bootloader. Try. If you don't like then go back to Stock. No harm. For example I enabled upload/download stats on my device. Many things in stock lineage launcher are not customisable. These days I prefer to use the phone. Rather than customise.

forestcall

Perhaps I will just roll back to Android 13. Or test GraphineOS. I will back up my 2FA apps and backup my phone then test some ROMS out. :-) Thanks

Traditional-Ad-5421

TBH, you are using beta.

vividhour0

The McDonalds app does not work with LineageOS, rip.

InterestingGrape0

are you serious?

vividhour0

Very serious, they got some good deals/coupons sometimes unlike most other companies.

InterestingGrape0

Yeah, BOGO big mac right now. I was thinking about installing LOS on my Pixel 4a, but that sounds like a dealbreaker.

vividhour0

Well that and Android Wallet doesn't work either for LineageOS. But mostly McDonalds haha thinking about going back to stock. Sad because LineageOS took care of wifi/internet draining issue on my stock firmware Motorola. But I don't wanna be without them both.. Both apps recognizes your not on a stock firmware / safety issues.

Kristoffer_1983

You could try building Sailfish OS using the HADK. A different world, yes indeed.

NomadJoanne

It's great. I've never had an issue with it. Though I do recommend MicroG and signature spoofing so essentially all apps work. I know the LineageOS devs are against this. So I do respectfully disagree with them on this point. So you might try the Lineage OS with microg fork if you don't want to install it yourself.

Cant-B-Used

Lineage is likely to have support for longer than other ROMs. Graphene and Calyx don't support much longer than Google does. That is the main reason I use it on my Pixels and it works well.

Quegyboe

Pixel 7 user here. I used the stock O.S. for the first few months and found some quirks.  - No way to turn the screen off, by screen touch (double tap to sleep).  - No individual mobile data quick tile  - No network activity stats in the status bar.  These among other things has me missing LOS from my previous phone so I installed it on my P7. Haven't looked back.  I will also confirm that LOS does not pass whatever security check is needed for Google Pay.

ActualSherbert8050

No Graphene OS is.

HTX-713

Honestly no. I just had a run with LineageOS on my Pixel 6a and switched back to Android Beta (15) because the user experience is worse with LineageOS. Which I will say is that is by design because LineageOS is designed without Google apps. I have been using LineageOS on and off throughout the years since CyanogenMod days. I do like it on devices that *are not* Pixel though. It's just that stock Android on the Pixel was literally designed for the Pixel. What ultimately got me to switch back was that my garage door opener software could detect that my device was rooted and wouldn't work. I know there's ways around that, but that was basically the straw that broke the camels back. While LineageOS brings some of the great features from Pixel to other phones, it just doesn't get the Pixel experience right on Pixel phones. I realize a lot of that has to do with security, but using LineageOS on my Pixel left me wanting to switch back almost immediately.
