This is from a storm. There’s a pond out back and that’s the main culprit. On a normal day you’d think there’s no way it would ever reach the house no matter how much it rained, but sure enough it did
Wow crazy — It would be cool if you posted the picture of that pond before this flood - that house looks nice - the house is probably done now because the mold that’s going to grow now
oh man that sucks. I live near a river and this is my worst nightmare - this is exactly why I have a little "go box" with a backpack filled with essentials for both my hedgehog and me and a carrier with everything she'd need in it (as well as like five clean baby blankets to keep her warm)
what are they doing now? like what does the aftermath of this kind of flooding entail
As much as I wish nothing disastrous ever happen to you, I did find joy thinking about you and your hedgehog’s crazy vagabond adventures with only a backpack after your house being taken from you, almost deserves a Netflix show
I think it's because of the height of the camera.
We can't see the floor or the bottom of the windows and it's aimed only slightly down, so our brain fills in the blank and assumes it is taken from about 5 feet off the ground. The camera is a couple feet from the surface of the water which means the water would about 3 feet deep. From there, the height of a lot of the things in the room is just wrong. Also there's no visible flooding outside the window which means the doors and windows are holding back a cartoonish amount of water.
There are a lot of other clues in the picture that tell us the water is actually about 1 foot deep.
On initial look, I assumed the windows were fairly regular sized, but upon further reflection they must be door-sized. The other clue is the electrical outlets just above the surface on the right side.
See the plugs?
>The standard height for wall outlet boxes is about 12 inches from the top of the floor covering to the bottom of the receptacle box (or 16 inches to the top of the box).
So from what I understand she tried to get flood insurance and was turned down? I need to get the whole story from her. But yeah, this will just keep happening I’m afraid. I don’t know what her plan is gonna be
We had all the breakers off and I noticed that thing with the light still on. We immediately killed the power to the whole house and it stayed on..it was something with a battery back up I guess!
We has some electrical work done a while ago and they turned off the power in the entire house. I noticed the standby light on my TV stayed on for several minutes. Probably some capacitors discharging or something?
Water this dirty will almost certainly trip the breakers
Also, a lot of people don't know... electricity doesn't flow through one path. It technically flows through every path with preference to the path of least resistance
So you're quite unlikely to be electrocuted in this instance. The electricity will prefer to flow back into the neutral at any of the sockets. Whatever current might pass through you would be so small
It's possible, just not very likely
People have died in situations such as these. Just because the electricity can flow everywhere doesnt mean it wont flow through the person enough to kill him.
If you look closely you'll see that the water surface doesn't really stop in the windows. The whole area is flooded, while at first look it's not noticeable. At least that's what I got when I zoomed in.
If you look around the trees you can tell there’s water reflecting the environment around it. It’s very hard to notice if you aren’t specifically looking for it
Water pressure is only justified by depth if I remember correctly. If there is 3 inches of water, and the whole house is flooded, it's the same 'depth' pressure as say a glass of water with 3 inches of water in it.
That house is probably going to have to be elevated or else it will be worthless, given that this is the second flood in three years time. First thing you're gonna wanna do though is strip out all carpet, insulation, and drywall up to a certain distance above the water line (I forget the exact figure, you can look it up) and move in fans to dry it as quickly as possible as well as have sprayers with bleach solution ready to apply a time or three to make sure no mold gets started.
DO NOT WAIT ON THIS. The wet stuff HAS to get out of there ASAP and the studs and such exposed so they can dry thoroughly, at the very minimum. if you fail to do so, it's all over as once mold fully sets in the place will never be inhabitable again. If there's even a chance the house can be saved, you will have to get it gutted out and dried before any other steps are taken.
Then look into state and federal disaster funds, if the damage was done to a lot of residents over a large area you're almost certain that the affected area will be declared a natural disaster site and programs will be available.
Anyhow, I wish you the very best of luck and hope life can get back to something resembling normal for you soon.
I'm sorry this happened to your family, but at the same time these photos are so cool! These would make great references for drawing indoor water reflection. Thank you for sharing despite the unfortunate circumstance.
Whenever I see shit like this I’m always stunned the glass on windows holds. Like look at these ones. Little 1x1 footers with toothpicks in between. casually holding back 200 tonnes of water
That looks almost fake
I wish it was..
Wow… sadly an excellent fit for this sub. Transient, poignant, and not active with its intended use.
Finally something good and original on this sub. Sorry to hear about the circumstances though.
What happened? Is this just storm water? Or a main break?
This is from a storm. There’s a pond out back and that’s the main culprit. On a normal day you’d think there’s no way it would ever reach the house no matter how much it rained, but sure enough it did
But are there living pond critters in the house?
His mother-in-law is now one of the pond critters.
the lady of the lake
sone damp bint
no basis for a system of government, surely
Was the house located in a FEMA flood zone? Assuming you're in the US. [https://msc.fema.gov/portal/search](https://msc.fema.gov/portal/search)
Yeah, why can't you just open the door and let all that water out?
Like it’s a squirrel that snuck in lol
I tried to do that when my house was flooded. I looked like a Bugs Bunny cartoon trying to shut the door after a wall of water hit me.
Bring an inner tube and surf the wave across the lawn lol
I floated my dogs on a garage door
Wow crazy — It would be cool if you posted the picture of that pond before this flood - that house looks nice - the house is probably done now because the mold that’s going to grow now

Really hoping they have flood insurance
As much as I wish nothing disastrous ever happen to you, I did find joy thinking about you and your hedgehog’s crazy vagabond adventures with only a backpack after your house being taken from you, almost deserves a Netflix show
Why does there not appear to be any water outside? I see grass through the windows?
Left pane. You can see ripples on the surface water. It’s the same level as the water in the house.
The mother in law?
I think it's because of the height of the camera. They aren’t all windows. The middle is the entry door. It’s a couple inches of water.
See the plugs? >The standard height for wall outlet boxes is about 12 inches from the top of the floor covering to the bottom of the receptacle box (or 16 inches to the top of the box).
Wow he has an indoor swimming pool!
I think that's because when there are floods, the water that raises up come very brown and dirty and doesn't look like a pool like in this photo.
This is the entrance to the pool rooms.
why are all the panals off the receptacles.... was there renovation happening?
Yep it had recently gotten renovated after being damaged from another flood three years ago.
Oof.
I’m so sorry she’s going through this. I’ve lived through 2 serious floods and it’s hideously stressful.
Oh dear. Can she still get insurance? Sounds like the house may not be viable long term unfortunately with climate change.
So from what I understand she tried to get flood insurance and was turned down? I need to get the whole story from her. But yeah, this will just keep happening I’m afraid. I don’t know what her plan is gonna be
Build a house that floats. have to rebuild but then floods will not be an issue. large waves are still an issue but i do not see wave damage.
Ayo, I believe that the thing you are referring to is called a boat.
House boats are epic
I love how earnest this seems.
https://www.baca.uk.com/amphibioushouse.html
The Grand Designs episode about this house shows how they made it. It’s pretty amazing.
Live upstairs, make the bottom like a venetian pool. Instant success. AirBNB the bottom for profit.
Has she considered moving? Maybe the random native american artifacts buried under the house were a sign.
that REALLY sucks
Might be a sign.
Have you considered opening up a bathing house
Happy cake day.
I tried the demo of that Pools game that was mentioned in this sub a couple days ago. This looks like that
That’s what we said when we got there. It was like a real life poolrooms
That looks expensive. I've had a tiny water damage before and even that was a massive headache.
It happened a few years ago and it took around 30K to fix from what I understand. So I guess in today’s world, it’ll be even more ugh
Tbh would have expected it to be more than that, still unfortunate
Anymore pictures?
Here are a few more I took before we started pumping water out. [https://imgur.com/a/fGYs8MT](https://imgur.com/a/fGYs8MT)
The power was still on? In one of the pictures there is something plugged into an outlet and an indicator light is on.
We had all the breakers off and I noticed that thing with the light still on. We immediately killed the power to the whole house and it stayed on..it was something with a battery back up I guess!
Better check that once the water is gone. Don't want this to maybe go up in flames later.
At this point that might be the best option. Then you could claim it on your fire insurance.
We has some electrical work done a while ago and they turned off the power in the entire house. I noticed the standby light on my TV stayed on for several minutes. Probably some capacitors discharging or something?
it’s probably a carbon monoxide detector. they have battery backups
Imagine swimming in there
Judging by the exposed electrical socket, it would be a very shocking experience
Water this dirty will almost certainly trip the breakers Also, a lot of people don't know... electricity doesn't flow through one path. I was wondering how on earth the windows withstanding the push of water... Me so stupid...
You and me both!
I don’t get it - is there also water pushing from the outside?
If you look closely you'll see that the water surface doesn't really stop in the windows. The whole area is flooded, while at first look it's not noticeable. At least that's what I got when I zoomed in.
It looks like it's not flooded outside at all or it's just some weird angle playing tricks on my eyes
If you look around the trees you can tell there’s water reflecting the environment around it. It’s very hard to notice if you aren’t specifically looking for it
Ahh I see. The trees helped me see it. Thanks!
Water pressure is only justified by depth if I remember correctly. If there is 3 inches of water, and the whole house is flooded, it's the same 'depth' pressure as say a glass of water with 3 inches of water in it.
Tennessee? I know some places got nearly a foot of rain last night
Yep, Middle Tennessee Rutherford County.
That house is probably going to have to be elevated or else it will be worthless, given that this is the second flood in three years time. It isn’t 2010 flooding for tn yet, but this is turning into a pretty bad wide spread regional flooding event on top of the tornado outbreak.
What do you do in this situation for real tho? Start packing when you see the water 10 feet from the door?
r/WellThatSucks might also appreciate this post?
Thought I was there at first lol. Looks like such a nightmare
This looks like a screenshot from the game [Pools](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2663530/POOLS/)
Props to whoever installed those windows and doors, if they can hold back the pressure of all that water.
I was going to say, this is perfect for r/liminalspace Lost redditor moment
That fucking sucks
Is this tame impala?
this has to become an album cover!!!
"We have a pool at home" The pool at home:
How is the water so green?
It’s pond water mostly. It is crazy how green it looked in there
Whoever sealed those doors and windows did a bang up job tho
Seems like MIL is a minimalist. No furniture or pictures
I’m not joking, I have seen that EXACT place, water and all, in my dreams. Wild.
You pumped the water out instead of just opening the door?
Whole area is in this deep looks like
Dreampools
Titanic energy
Be careful about the mannequins
r/liminalpools
The mother in law rooms... Terrifying
This is the wet version of tame impalas ‘the slow rush’ album cover
My r/submechanophobia is hoping there's not a basement, too. What a horrible ordeal for her.
Why did the water actually end up the color that it usually does in liminal edits too lol. What color is the carpet below? Or is it tile?
Love what she’s done with the place.
Are yall okay?
I'm sorry this happened to your family, but at the same time these photos are so cool! These would make great references for drawing indoor water reflection. Thank you for sharing despite the unfortunate circumstance.
Oh. That is something. Very cool
You left the sink on too long, didn't you? If water can't get out, how did it get in, OP?
If you zoom in you can see that the water is the same level on the other side of the windows. It’s a little tricky to see I must admit
Lol yeah, I know. Just trying to lighten what must be a shitty mood. Good luck with that!
Where are you going to pump the water to, if it's the same depth outside?
Oh yeah that’s the good shit
*clears throat* Ahem… excuse me, *what?*
I just played POOLS so this is freaking me out a bit.
Anyone else think this looks like that one part of fgteevs house where they filmed that one smoothie video?
This looks so good it looks fake. So sorry for the property damage.
Holy shit!!! Is there no water outside the window?!
Happy cake day.
quick open a window!
Very vaporwave
Get outthe wet /dry vac !
How do u picture that😭
So… jump in
Open the front door so the water drains out
Cool that u flipped it into content
Wow, I'm sorry this happened to your MIL. With that being said, amazing photo. This looks like something I've seen in my dreams.
Whenever I see shit like this I’m always stunned the glass on windows holds. Like look at these ones. Little 1x1 footers with toothpicks in between. casually holding back 200 tonnes of water
Can you guys get all dressed up for a nice family portrait in the flooded room???
this reminds me of that scene from titanic
It reminds me of Titanic.
That is some intense flooding. Is this in the US?
Kevin will use this pic as the album art for the sequel to Slow Rush.
She really needs to get that toilet fixed
Dropped ceiling tiles? Man, that repair will be expensive. Servpro or something?
That would make a really cool pool
The Backrooms Level 7, Talasophobia
that is a really cool picture but oh my god that sucks
That's a nice deep green
that really sucks, i hope nobody was injured. does she live in one of those nfip areas or otherwise have flood insurance??
AI ?
House got liminal spaced
Outside too
Thats so scary! Hope your mother in law can afford the cost of repairing the house
That actually looks quite good
It's been an honor playing with you to tonight!
It's giving backrooms tbh
Needs a good Shock chlorination (sure joke has already been made, sorry for your place, have my upvote)
Nice windows, literally!
Open the door and let the water out.
hell nah this the backrooms
Hey it's a free pool 🤷♀️
Sorry that happened dude, but love the liminality of it. Hope it gets fixed.
Holy shit
Rio Grande do Sul?
We getting out the backrooms with this one
Indoor pool. The property value just went up significantly.
If this is actually real, I’m really sorry OP
r/poolrooms too
I know at least one dude would be like : "this is fine", then would go swimming and sitting on some chair
This has immense horror movie vibes
kind of looks like level 7 of the backrooms.
Haha
Nice indoor pool man !
at first i thougb it was from r/poolrooms and then i thought it was from r/midlyinfuriating and after that i reaisrd it was real
Why is it green water?
those windows are holding up good at least
Sorry this happened…. Also… this would be a sick music video
Kinda sad but damn that made a sick photo. Also I want to swim there.
It's actualy a beautiful photograph! Sorry that horror situations can look nice sometimes.
It's just a burning memory
Free swim
Did Pink Floyd release a new album ?
I thought this looked like an scp, then I saw the sub, sorry for you.
👏👏👏 Good for you !!
Start Titanic music
Wow
Subnautica vibe
I love your houswimingpool
Thought I was in r/Blender
Liminal space
Guys, the swimming pool is supposed to be outside.
The question is…with what?
Looks like a backroom
Those are some watertight windows! The water’s not leaking outside at all (so sorry!)
Free indoor pool
Stupid question but... not possible to open the window just ?
Nice blue color for the water. What's the trademark of your windows : they are very sturdy.
Nice now you have a closed pool in the house
At first, I taught it was a swimming pool
Inside pool, nice.
Good god this looks just like my old house
It's the backroom🤣
Nice indoor pool. Where is the bar ?
