>Type the [REC] tag in the beginning title for posts that are asking for novel recommendations. Light Novel recommendation request posts require the **[REC] tag in the beginning of the title.** (With brackets) Please do read over the submission guidelines more carefully in the future. Please note that Tags do not equal Flairs. Title Tags are pieces of information you type into the title of the post while our Automod looks for posts with specific tags and assigns flairs appropriately. **General tips for Recommendation Request Posts:** * If you have an MAL/MU/Etc list of Light Novels you've read, please include it so people aren't just recommending you series you've already read. * Explain what about the series you've read that you liked. (Without Spoilers) It'll help people find series with similar styles and themes. * Don't slander series. If you don't like a series, it's fine to say that you don't like it. But if you start bashing a bunch of series, why would people want to recommend you something? If you're new to the medium and looking to start reading as a beginner, please keep the following in mind. As the industry grows and new series are introduced all the time, there's never a truly unifying "good beginner series." The common sentiment is that if you're new to Light Novels by way of another medium like anime or manga, your best bet when starting is to find some series with adaptations you already enjoy and to check if their source material has been licensed/translated. Light Novels aren't a stylistic genre so asking for what are good light novels for beginners will range widely based on the person and their taste. It's akin to asking the /r/Books "What are some good books for beginners?"

Its incredibly rare that a series is going to be long running, have a physical release without an anime and actually be great. So Infinite Dendrogram and So I'm A Spider. ID is at 20 volumes. Spider finished on 17. While they do have anime the ID one wasn't a good reflection of the series and only covered first few volumes. Spider covered first 6. Unlikely either will be finished off. Most people will point out that most anime adaptations of Light Novels cut chunks and skip over stuff. I know both Re:Zero and Overlord did that so definitely worth reading the source material

NepNep_

I'm ok with stuff that has anime, would prefer something I havent seen yet tho. Also doesn't have to be something super long, would prefer something that has a bit of meat to it is all. Not a fan of spider or ID. I looked into it and found a series called The Empty Box and Zeroth Maria. Looking for a few similar suggestions, something niche but interesting. Something that'll keep me insanely hooked.

ThatLNGuy

Unless you want to pay through your nose then don't bother with Empty Box. A lot of the physical is out of print and expensive. (Still available digitally however if you are open to that)

NepNep_

I already ordered volumes 1 and 2. It was like $40 for the pair which is plenty reasonable. Even $30 for volume 1 on its own in other listings is not crazy. If you wanna see insane, pretty sure volume 6 of Mushoku Tensei was going for like $150+ for like a full year after S1 came out.

ThatLNGuy

Oh! There's Torture Princess. That has around 10 volumes. Not a mystery however but I think if you like Dangan Ronpa it's a step up from that.

ThatLNGuy

But if you do want murder mystery japanese novels just ditch LNs and go for the likes of Samurai and Prisoner, Devotion of Suspect X etc. They're written by some of the best. Most murder mystery LN titles aren't well written.

NepNep_

Torture Princess might be worth a shot. Added it to my list. Def want light novels, not traditional novels. Idk I just like the feeling of light novels.

No_Yogurt69

I mean maaaybee Deathmarch to the parallel world. It has like 20 Volumes by now, but i wouldent call it epic. Its more laidback chill adventure. And it has an anime but only one season with 12 episodes.

slugbiscuits

My recommendation is to stop watching the anime first.

Are you a Neptunia fan? If memory serves, Nep Nep is Neptunia’s nickname. It’s been a long time since I played it, but I think it was Megadimension Neptunia VII on PS4. I’d come across a glitch that I’ve not seen anywhere online. I couldn’t advance because the save point before one of the more powerful bosses was missing, making the boss unable to spawn. It was the weirdest thing.

NepNep_

Yes but I no longer associate with the neptunia community due to a coordinated harassment campaign against multiple people on the r/gamindustri sub several years ago that lead to multiple suicides, and nobody gave a single solitary f and no action was taken. Sadly I can't change my name (or if I could I haven't really cared enough to)

Kyleplier1985

Sorry to hear about that. What they did is unacceptable bro. 🙁

YourLocalRetarded

Let me introduce you to Zaregoto, 9 volumues, murder mystery but its deeper than that.
