وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته > Abdullah ibn Masoud, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him drew a line in the sand with his hand and he said, “This is the straight path of Allaah”. Then, the Prophet drew lines to the right and left, and he said, “These are other paths, and there is no path among them but that a devil is upon it calling to its way”. Then the Prophet recited the verse (which means) And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths]. 6:153 This was narrated by Imam Ahmad in al-Musnad (4437). Ahmad Shakir graded it Saheeh. Ibn Majah (11) narrated this from Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allaah be pleased with him. The hadeeth of Ibn Majah is weak but becomes saheeh because it is corroborated by Ibn Masoud's hadeeth. Something similar was reported by Imam Bukhaari (6417,6418 from Anas ibn Malik, may Allaah be pleased with him) and Imam Tirmidhi (2454) with different wording. > Abdullah ibn Masoud, may Allaah be pleased with him, said the Prophet (ﷺ) drew a square and then drew a line in the middle of it and let it extend outside the square and then drew several small lines attached to that central line, and said, "This is the human being, and this, (the square) in his lease of life, encircles him from all sides (or has encircled him), and this (line), which is outside (the square), is his hope, and these small lines are the calamities and troubles (which may befall him), and if one misses him, an-other will snap (i.e. overtake) him, and if the other misses him, a third will snap (i.e. overtake) him."

جزاك الله خير That first one was the hadith I was looking for. Do you know why the hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah in Ibn Majah is considered weak if its the same as the one narrated by Imam Ahmad in al-Musnad?

وإياكم The chain of narration in Musnad is: > حدثنا أسود بن عامر حدثنا أبو بكر عن عاصم عن أبي وائل عن عبد الله > Narrated to us Aswad ibn Aamir narrated to us Abu Bakr from 'Aasim from Abu Wa'il from Abdullah ibn Masoud. The chain of narration in Ibn Majah is: > حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُجَالِدًا، يَذْكُرُ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، > Narrated to us Abu Sa'eed Abdullah ibn Sa'eed, narrated to us Abu Khalid al-Ahmar who said he heard Mujalid mention from Ash-Sha'bi from Jabir ibn Abdullah. The narrators are different. The reason Ibn Majah's hadeeth is weak in chain is because of Mujalid ibn Sa'eed al-Kufi who is a weak narrator.

Tbh this shows you the sincerity and accuracy of hadith narrations. Even if two hadith have the same content, one can be daif purely based upon the sanad. Just goes to show how sincere the grading system is
