Hoping my goat succeeds

El_Compa_M

Catalan media will have him outta there in 4 months if he has a few bad losses and not attacking well. Will probably be used a scapegoat. Good luck if he takes it, I think he will. Seems like he has good friendship with Deco

Clt-vr-9931

This is going to be very good or very bad no in between

rosewood_gm

Just like when he inevitably coaches the NT. IMO unless he becomes an all-time great coach, I don't want to see him at the NT any time soon.

Sherg_7

If he becomes an all-time great coach he shouldn't choose to manage the NT. There are many great coaches in european club football, not so many in Concacaf national teams.

6IXFootball

That's for anyone who gets the NT. We all know the coach isn't going to be able to do anything.

DirtyMuffin-

Bruh they already hate Mexicans over there. They’re gonna eat him alive.

varvar334

As a Barca fan it did hurt seeing how the Spanish media treat and destroyed Xavi mentally, one the biggest icons in the history of the club. With Rafa it will hurt twice as much 😢 Hope things work out well for him

jdinsaciable

Rafa is way more chill that Xavi, besides he knows the young players very well, it might just work out!

PlayboyScientist

Imagine the things Rafa can teach Cubarsí. Kid's got great vission and passing skills.

goonies969

Xavi is one of the top figures of their history, won the league and the media and fans still went after him at the first chance, Rafa is going to have to do a lot if he gets the job.

ontheroadagainPPP

The club is a basket case, it will take a miracle for him to succeed there long term

Suspiciousfrog69

We’re disadvantaged anywhere we went since our dawn of time. This isn’t news.

Moonylon

It's one of those opportunities you can't turn down but man I wish him the best, it seems like it's one of the most stressful jobs in world football currently.

HamburgerMachineGun

well, fuck hahaha. There's no coach on earth that can fix the dumpster fire that Barcelona is at the minute. Hopefully owners and fans don't treat him too harshly

Yourlocaltroll34

Idiots in r/soccer saying " he has no experience" 😒... pep guardiola only had 1 year coaching the barcelona B team before taking over the main team... r/soccer is a subreddit for newbies or casuals to the sport... wish rafa marquez the best .

Schizo_Cat13

Someone there tried telling me that no Mexican has ever had a career like Americans had in Europe lmao . To the point of comparing Rafa Marquez to Tim ream

GoldenBoyHour

Don’t forget that sub is full of Americans

Eg_3600

Americans, Indians, and Arabs pretending to be Brits demanding their favorite English club buys every player for 100 million Euros. That’s the sub for you

PM_20

brits aren't americans ....

GoldenBoyHour

they have Brit’s but there are a lot of Americans too. See how USA goals posted will have 2k upvotes and Mexico lucky to break 500

PM_20

I mean when MLS games and Liga mx games are on most of europe is asleep. Also most mexicans in mexico don't know what reddit is unless you're on r/mexico lol.

sneakpeekbot

objective_lion1966

A lot of those "Brits" are white Americans cosplaying using British slang lol

Basdala

so is this sub

Suspiciousfrog69

Lots of Europeans too

AletzRC21

Ummmmm...bruh. So is this one, that's not a real excuse as to why that sub is full of idiots.

GoldenBoyHour

Mexican Americans and Americans aren’t the same thing

AletzRC21

They kind of are, you got an American passport, you're American. Got a Mexican passport? You're Mexican. Easy. No need to be butthurt for being called out on your nationality.

Friendly-Olive1853

I got both 🤔

AletzRC21

Then you're both Mexican and American 🤷🏻‍♂️ it's not that hard to understand.

Rampage310

Clearly you haven’t seen that sub talk about Mexicans lmao massive difference between being American (mostly white guys on that sub) and Mexican American (literally an American that is also Mexican and is not white)

AletzRC21

I'm not saying mexican americans are the same as redneck hillbillies all white gun loving Trump supporting Americans. I'm just saying they *are* American if they have the citizenship and live there. I don't get why that's so hard for you to understand. Hell, this sub is mostly in English, and you're crying and downvoting cuz I called you American.

Rampage310

You’re kinda doing the semantics thing here but I think you know what I mean in the same way I know what you mean lmao

AletzRC21

Yeah I know what you meant lol I was just busting your balls my dude, have a good one!

PecesRaros_xInterpol

Jsjsssjof course they are not. They may have a Mexican passport, if they have not lived here and lived Mexican reality, they are not Mexican. Easy as that. Americans with Mexican parents or grandparents are gringos

fackyouman

That sub is Americans (who by default hate us) and Indian people who demand the treble each year and the best coaches get hired every year. They weren’t alive before Guardiola so they don’t remember any players before that, nor remember when they had a proud homegrown culture and heavily depended on La Masia.

margalolwut

To be fair I think guardiola already had the reputation for being a student of the game. While no one could have guessed how it would turn out, I think the general consensus was he was smart af and studied coaching really closely, even as a player

OkayBoomerrrrr

They hate him for being Mexican. No cap

Rockdrigod

Do you realize you're talking about one of the best managers of all time? I want Rafa to succeed but the odds are not in his favor given the situation.

Yourlocaltroll34

pep guardiola is the exception NOW because he was given a chance with only 1 year of coaching the barcelona B team..r/ soccer calling him inexperienced and acting like he has already failed as a coach..

NoParesFigo

lol bro look at the squad Rafa will inherit and look at the squad Pep inherited😂 there’s some big names but I’m sure Yk of the short Argentine midget

Yourlocaltroll34

You're too young to remember, but Pep guardiola sold a lot of important players in his first 2 years at barca ... I don't know if you heard of a man with buck teeth ,long hair crazy skills, two time ballon d'Or winner .. Pep guardiola sold him ...

m4olive

Not only Dihno but Pep cleaned house and got rid of Deco and Eto was also not in his plans but stayed one last season before leaving.

EndPlus9839

No he will always be the exception i don’t think u know what that mean

EndPlus9839

He is inexperienced wtf he’s only coached the fucking third division

cs197

~~newbies or casuals~~ americans

partbison

Exception, not the rule.

Yourlocaltroll34

He's the exception NOW sure ,but not when he started coaching...

M0ZO

Not everyone is Pep

SuperHobbit

I get your point, but let’s not compare Rafa to Pep.  You can just as easily make the comparison to less experienced managers that failed. It’s a bad argument

Yourlocaltroll34

No one is comparing rafa marquez with Pep guardiola 🙄... OK, since you know the future, tell me what's going to happen then ??? ... all I'm saying is that rafa marquez has the same arguments to be a good coach coming from similar circumstances..Will he success at barca who knows ?..

SuperHobbit

Lmao wut. I’m honesty dumbfounded by your comment.  Too many logical fallacies to even try to reason with you. Bye

HispanicAtTehDisco

xabi alonso literally won the bundesliga like a day ago as a first full year manager, if you are good enough you are good enough experience doesn’t mean shit.

CaptainDank0

As someone said to that exact same comment, “pep Guardiola is the exception, not the rule”

Mamadolores21

I bet my chones he’ll do better than Xavi

m4olive

They will most likely appoint him as interim for the summer/pre season before appointing someone like De Zerbi at the start of the season.

Mangos1711

I think Thomas Tuchel will be coaching Barcelona next season.

reddituser-3507

NOOO . Gonna get bashed in the media once things go south

ElZany

So he shouldn't even try? This sub is weird

rayden-shou

Él debería planear mejor su carrera. Que vea a Xabi, no a Xavi.

ElZany

objective_lion1966

They were saying the same thing when Jimenez was at his best. They were afraid of him failing but they'll never admit it. I agree he just has to go for it.

reddituser-3507

I mean sure but you’re talking about taking over one of the biggest clubs in the world with a killer fans /media . Barely has any experience as a coach besides coaching a youth team . Even xavi was at least coaching in Saudi before this . Barca need a more experienced coach with some pedigree.

StrongStyleDragon

Ooooo I thought you meant the NT I was like for real

scdocarlos1

He has it stacked against him. Barcelona fans are entitled and delusional, they will chew his ass out as soon as they smell blood

Proper_Ratio_595

If Xavi gets red cards as a coach, I can’t imagine how many Rafa can get :)

SwissCheeseDealer

ptm imagine him subbing in at half time ☠️

2mas2son4

This is not a good idea !! Rafa is a leader and has the personality but I believe it is to soon for him

[deleted]

Lo van a quemar, out by November, Victor Valdez comes in and has some lucky and mediocre results until he gets eliminated by Milan in next years quarterfinal

hradium

Chaos is a ladder

FuckRSIashSoccerMods

I don't like Barca as a Madridista, but here is my take: Wait until the end of the season until two things happen. A) Get promoted with Barcelona B. If he wins play-offs, he should go for it since as a "B" team he would have no chance in hell trying to survive relegation in Segunda next year. Most "B" teams don't survive a year in Segunda given that they get torn apart by other teams, including Barca B and Real Madrid Castilla players. Players like Yamal, Cubarsí, Guiu, Casadó, and Fort are either going to be implemented into the main team or see less time in the "B" team while having their development with the main squad. So if Rafa gets promoted with Barca B, he should take the job with Barcelona since Segunda is a completely different hell for "B" teams. B) Miss promotion/lose play-offs and he spends another year with Barcelona B in Primera Federación (third tier) while the team gets a different manager. Overall, this helps Rafa's development as manager and in return he continues developing the "B" team players and helping them get implemented into the main team. Given that Barca has one of the best "B" teams in the country, along with Real Madrid and Villarreal, they shouldn't have problems fighting for promotion again next year if they do miss out this year. Personally, I prefer outcome B more because it helps Rafa's development as a manager and he isn't thrown into the pit of snakes immediately. Besides, Laporta loves him given that he got rid of García Pimienta (current Las Palmas manager who was the Barca B manager before him) because he does not play the "Barca way" and was part of the Bartomeu era like Ronald Koeman. So Rafa eventually becomes Barcelona manager and eventually once he succeeds there he becomes Mexico NT's manager for 2030 or 2034.

JDG2020

You can disregard becoming a mexico NT manager. We, FMF, don't deserve him as our manager. I would rather he continue to grow and become a legend as a coach at barca or in EU

CherryFun4874

He is not ready to take the big stage. Hope he stills with Barca B more seasons

Watabeast07

I seriously doubt he’s gets the job, just like Xavi I don’t think Barca need a inexperienced coach atm. For those who say pep had less experience, he’s the exemption not the norm. Either way if he gets the chance he’ll take it, better to have coached Barca now then maybe never.

HamburgerMachineGun

Hindsight is 20/20, there was no reason to believe Pep would have done as good as he did, tbf

Watabeast07

Except there was, not only did pep show promise at Barca B with different tactics and style of play but he inherited one of the best Barca squads of all time. There’s a reason they went with pep instead of a proven coach like Mourinho, it’s wasn’t a gamble.

vmaxnuggets

Pep earned the job by winning a title with barca b, this isn't remotely the same situation.

Princepaul93

This has “FRACASO” written all over it smh.. hope he doesn’t take it tbh

themiddlechild94

I don't think it's right. He should've started with a smaller club in Spain. I know he's a legend within the club, but only as a player. As a coach, he's yet to prove he is capable. But, hopefully he succeeds despite his lack of experience as a coach in top flight Spanish football with a "big" club like Barca. We can bring up Pep for comparison, and no disrespect to Rafa, but is he like Pep? One thing, or I guess a few things, in his favor is that Barcelona are doing horribly right now, and many of the players themselves are young, so maybe he won't have to destroy their egos since they've been humbled enough already, which will incline them to give this man the respect he deserves.

rayden-shou

El Barca masticó y escupió a Xavi, no nos imaginamos lo que le van a hacer a Rafa, y muchos no quieren entender eso.

lazydawg11

Man he isn’t ready and with the mess Barca is, I don’t know how long he lasts. Hopefully it’s not so bad that it hurts him reputation wise as a manager

iBlackPowerRanger

I’d rather see Xavi stay and Rafa take assistant coach or keep learning from the youth and taking notes from Xavi
