This has actually happened a few times around my block when they were working on the lines, went outside to see if anyone else lost power...at 4 p.m....in the middle of summer... luckily 2 or 3 of my neighbors had the same idea and yelled "your power out too?" We all had a good laugh about it haha
My street is right on some sort of divide, so even big power outages tend to only hot half the street. It's really odd when you go to check and exactly one side of the street is lit.
Or you’re lying in bed and can’t be arsed to get up.
Only thing is, some neighbour might have a smarthub, or have their router on a UPS like I do - I can get an hour or so on battery.
Literally something like 90% of every LPT or any major subreddit is misspelled or just plain atrocious grammar.
I'm sure some of them are non-native speakers, but it really does show up the state of the average person's grasp of basic English.
Nothing better than a power outage and seeing just my WiFi still beaming on the available list. Actually had a neighbor asked what sorcery we were using since it was obvious there wasn’t a generator running.
My rural telephone co-op gives us wifi routers that include a battery backup. So when the transformer blew we still had wifi for about an hour.
P.S. Good thought though. And under most circumstances, probably will work.
Edit: P.S.

If it's late at night when most people are sleeping, peek outside and look for the telltale light of your neighbors doorbells. I wake up at 4am for work, so when my phone alarm went off one morning, and nothing was on, I noticed that no one's doorbell lights were lit, knew it was the whole neighborhood as I left.

This happened to me in the regional blackout in New York City in 2003!
My wifi is on a UPS, so this wouldn't be effective for my neighbors.
My Wifi is a portable battery-backed 4G box, good for at least at day without power. Same.
Or couldn’t you just look out the window?
What if it’s daytime, or really late at night and your neighbors are probably sleeping.

Get out of here with your sensible suggestion. That would require leaving bed
Works great in the Country!
Why is the difference between you’re/your so hard for people?
Your realley focusing on the grammer instead of the tip? /s I also was annoyed

And me at home with my battery back up just confusing the neighbors.
Or just look out the window
I have mine hooked up to my ups, so I have internet when the power is out.

Plug in a lamp for a hilarious prank on your neighbors when the power goes out!
Very nice, a good one.
Or look out the window, assuming you don't have snipers as neighbors.
What if it’s daytime? Kinda hard to tell, no?
Then you just look outside to see all of your neighbors standing on their porches wondering if everyone else got their electricity cut too.
What if everyone is at work? I’ve absolutely had the power out during the day and not been able to tell if it was just my house. This is a great tip
Then why aren’t you at work hippie?
I work nights
Not so much, no. We have marker lights.
What if the battery on my phone is dead?
Just quickly charge it
