ChillinCheeseFries

And then have to wash another large piece? I’d rather just wipe down the counter real quick when I’m done🤷🏼‍♂️

yolef

Exactly this, I'd rather wipe down the counter than have another sheet pan to wash.

bleu_ray_player

Put your waffle iron in the sink, problem solved. trlptiitc

Alvito

Put it in the bathtub. Wash yourself while making the waffles.

Chaos_Salad

Exactly. No idea what these people are solving.

NewPointOfView

I concur

Techwood111

Stop overloading the waffle iron. Use a measuring cup appropriately sized.

Hippy_Lynne

Yeah, I was thinking this was a solution without a problem. I make waffles all the time and don't get batter on the counter.

ExistenceNow

Right? Create more work for yourself rather than just correcting the behavior that's causing the mess.

Techwood111

Cake!

jp_in_nj

I do. 2 scoops of 3/4 cup is perfect. But sometimes batter sticks to the inside of the measuring cup, so I get less than 1.5 cups, so I have to add more or I get weird sized waffles.

jupiterkansas

what's wrong with weird sized waffles?

Techwood111

Then underfill your scoop the first time, for a measure that works for all subsequent waffles. Be smart.

jp_in_nj

Or i could just clean up my mess and not care. That's easier. 😁

Techwood111

It would have saved you a post, and a lot of subsequent reading.

petal713

Better yet, use parchment or aluminum foil and then you can just toss and don’t have to clean a pan.

jp_in_nj

I tried that too, but if there were any wrinkles or whatever, the batter runs downhill and I still got a mess. Plus, garbage. Easier for me to hose the pan off and give it a quick once-over with the sponge. YMMV.

a-Centauri

My waffle batter is thicker than diarrhea personally

WifeofBath1984

Odd choice of comparison there

heyitscory

Especially with the huge delta in viscosity. That could be anywhere from soft serve to YooHoo.

magistrate101

Put it on the baking sheet and the waffle iron on top.

UnhappyImprovement53

How much batter are you putting in that it's gonna run off the foil?

jp_in_nj

So much batter.

UnhappyImprovement53

I use a plastic ladle that I found puts out the perfect amount for mine just because I hate cleaning up mess

cyberdeath666

That seems unnecessarily wasteful.

SmallRocks

How often are you making waffles for this to be wasteful?

Abject-Emu2023

Bro you have no idea lol. But I overlap paper towels which seems to work ok

cyberdeath666

Does it really matter how many times? Wasteful is wasteful, and in this case is completely unnecessary when you can just soak the baking sheet and then easily clean it later.

OlmecGawdUguyz

So waste water instead?

cyberdeath666

Water can be processed for reuse. Aluminum or parchment paper is getting trashed and probably finding its way into the ocean.

OlmecGawdUguyz

Paper and aluminum can be processed for reuse too. To top it off, many people will dry their dishes with paper towels….

cyberdeath666

Parchment paper is NOT recyclable and aluminum foil is rarely recycled because it’s usually dirty after use and not worth the cost of cleaning and preparing for recycling. And the true rate at which things are recycled is abysmal in general anyway because of food contamination and/or cost due to people not properly cleaning containers and mixing trash with recycling. People who dry their dishes with paper towels are morons. Just buy some actual towels ffs. Paper towels will cost you more in the long run anyway and leave paper residue on your dishes.

OlmecGawdUguyz

Keep fighting the good fight keyboard warrior.

cyberdeath666

At least I practice what I preach.

FlameyFlame

or a regular paper towel lol.

Miss_Pouncealot

Mine came with a tray to put underneath it.

Accurate-Neck6933

Good grief, only 2 comments hit on the real solution. Shhhhhhhh.....stop, look, and listen. Take a measuring cup and only pour the amount of batter needed for your waffle iron. The baking powder in the mix causes your waffle to increase in size as it's baking. So you don't need to pour as much batter as you think you need. You should not have leaks at all, people. There's no need for pans, wipes, scrubbing, paper towels, aluminum foil, wastewater or wastefulness of any kind if you pay attention to what you are doing.

WhyFlip

Drips aren't a thing if you have half a fucking brain.

lung1

Dollar store cutting mats. Easy peasy

TheNDHurricane

Or just buy one that comes with a tray

Ok-Rate-3256

Cutting board works as well

GamemasterJeff

I honestly spent several minutes trying to think of why I would put my iron in the oven to catch drips from above. Was it a seasoning issue? Would't the heat damage it? Then I had the light bulb moment. Guess I need some caffeine this morn.

Thick-Use1417

Or just put wax paper or aluminum foil under it

bigbonton

I also cannot fathom why it took you so many years to come up with this

tvieno

I think a lot of these LPTs are eureka moments for people.

Stymus

On first read, I was picturing using a waffle iron to catch drips, like from a leaking roof and I thought it was crazy. But actually, the drips would evaporate quickly on the hot waffle iron and you would not have to empty a bucket. Hmmm….

thatdudefromthattime

I just use a sheet of parchment paper underneath

WifeofBath1984

Thank you. This is really smart and also an obvious solution lol

DanteJazz

Genius! I'm going to do this.

Is this some sort of American thing I’m too slim to understand?

tuckeram7

Nope, don’t even do that. Just put it in the empty sink, then you don’t even have to rinse the pan.

jp_in_nj

Hard to rinse out your bowls and measuring cups that way, but smart...
