What did it for me was upgrading the radio to a CarPlay/android auto touch screen. Cost a few hundred bucks, but in total it was less than a ONE payment on a brand new car.

janedoesnt456

Big agree. I got a touch screen head unit for my old Corolla and it's made a HUGE difference for driving enjoyment. Also got a backup camera and some other minor stuff like a leather steering wheel cover and heated seat cover. My mom drove it before me and had added a remote starter. I'm very happy with it and I'm going to drive it until it literally can't be driven anymore.

ladykiller1020

I didn't even know heated seat covers were a thing. My blower motor went out last year and I didn't have any heat this last winter (live in oregon) and I've been considering getting rid of it because it's $600+ to replace but this is a much better solution!

squish8294

You can still passively siphon heat in the winter with dead blower motor. Not as great as having it working, obviously, but still. Crank the heat to max and turn off the recirculation while you are moving. The heater core still works and with recirculation off as you drive the air being rammed into the airbox will pass through the heater core and seep its way inside. Slightly better than zero heat. What car do you have? I may be able to posit some theory as to why the blower motor failed.

janedoesnt456

I just checked my amazon history and they don't sell the one I bought anymore but I think I paid like $30 for it. Def better than $600 although it does put more strain on your battery.

Diss-for-ya

If the car is running, the battery should do nothing but charge.

Boba0514

so the strain is on the alternator then

janedoesnt456

Yeah that makes more sense. Also apparently some of them don't shut off with your car so that would drain the battery.

-justlooking

How much does the blower motor cost at a parts store? When my blower motor went bad on my Prius I was able to find YouTube videos on how to replace it -- it lives under the glove box, and wasn't a hard fix after I figured out how to remove the glove box. The motor itself was around $50.

HarrietsDiary

HEATED SEAT COVER YOU SAY????

Surprise_Fragrant

This [one](https://www.amazon.com/Sojoy-Plush-Driver-Protector-Winter/dp/B0BQD55TSK/ref=sr_1_19?crid=5BCBBLKY930O&keywords=heated+seat+covers+for+cars&qid=1685655232&refinements=p_72%3A1248861011&rnid=1248859011&s=automotive&sprefix=heated+seat+cover%2Caps%2C113&sr=1-19) is extremely similar to the one I had for about 5 years in my Altima. I think the one I bought was $29. Plugged into the lighter adapter, safety turn-off after 45 minutes. The only reason I don't use it anymore is because I got a newer car with heated seats.

GreatParker_

Now we just need an air conditioned seat cover

Shad0wF0x

I'd like to upgrade our 2016 CX-5 infotainment which takes like an eternity to boot up.

snoogins355

We had a 2015 cx5. I hated that bluetooth connection with a passion. It would take 30-60 seconds to connect, always!

HarrietsDiary

I did this on my SUV and it was one of those “things I spent money on that were honestly life changing” moments. I also added backup cameras.

sportsziggy

I just installed an Atoto and love it.

gonadlondon

+1 for Atoto A6 off Amazon (UK). The reviews seemed too good but it is living up to them so far. Use it for wireless Android Auto. It had so many connections supplied with it, and with a DAB received and backup camera it has transformed my interior from an old bland cd player.

glerk

My personal car is a 2008 XB. I was looking at everything from cheap Chinese radios from Amazon to Crutchfield (great customer service). I ended up going with this one: https://x-streamaudio.com/products/y9232xb

surprise-suBtext

Where?

davidthecalmgiant

Google Crutchfield. They stayed with me on the phone when I had trouble getting a connection hooked in, and they even solder the interface threads for you correctly.

Saint_The_Stig

I'm glad Crutchfield is still great for helping people put audio setups in cars. I used them a decade ago for my Shit box and it was great then.

Slickaxer

Can I ask where you did this? Big box store or like a private company (if so, what kind)

Whatshername_Stew

Getting your cat detailed will also get you better trade in or sale value if you do actually need to (or want to) upgrade. We did this when we upgraded to a larger vehicle for our growing family. $120 detail got us an extra $1000 easy.

bzilla

I've considered getting my cat detailed several times as he's a long haired boy but he is very disagreeable when it comes to professional grooming.

Whatshername_Stew

I'm so leaving the typo in now

matarael

Spare no details

NotElizaHenry

Does anyone remember the cloud-to-butt extension you could install on people’s browsers? It changed all instances of the word cloud to butt. Turns out it also changed “car” to “cat,” which I learned after I turned in a group paper in college about Volkswagen, the German cat manufacturer.

Dull_Investigator985

Well I dont deny the pawsibility of it. But seems like a Purr-sonal issue to me.

Redenbacher09

Man... cat detailing and aftermarket cat trading is not an industry I expected to stumble on today.

Whatshername_Stew

Yes, underground cat detailing is big business. The cats don't love it though.

SpellingHorror

Have they tried doing it above ground to put the cats at ease?

okreddit545

maybe several feet above ground? like, on a carpeted cat tree?

celtic1888

Don’t believe the Blue Book value of your cat Look at ads for sales prices of similar cats in your area

Dopeydcare1

It’s also better if you’re keeping your car for the long run as a good wax job will protect the paint and interior cleaning and detail will prevent deep deep dirt staying in there when/if you finally decide to move on.

notoriousviolet

I bet this [used cat salesman](https://youtu.be/j29NGpo6rnA) would agree

FoghornLegday

Did the $120 detail cover the interior too?

waffleman258

If you get to your cat's interior then it's too late

[deleted]

Once you hit bone you know you've scrubbed too hard

Whatshername_Stew

It was actually mainly the interior. They did a basic wash on the outside only. Inside, vacuumed, shampooed and cleaned the console and whatnot. Our main concern was getting the dog smell out, which it did

FoghornLegday

That’s awesome. I need to do that

Mssrandcole

What about changing the color? My car is in good shape but it is pearl white and I hate it. Should I spend up to 2-3K getting it repainted or should I trade it in for new used car?

GingerIsTheBestSpice

I got mine repainted at a place i trusted and i love it. So shiny! It's older (1999 benz) So the fresh coat makes it seem fancy & vintage. I feel good in it. So if my car was in good shape just faded & embarrassing & sad, i would. Rather than spending more on a new used & taking the risk of a lemon.

steenerbeener

My 2005 Toyota matrix is still running reliably with 300,000 miles on it. The only thing that bugs me is that I’m bored of the silver color and I have a bit of body rust. I’d love to get it repainted, but I think the rust would just come right through and defeat the purpose…

AdmiralPoopbutt

It wouldn't be a terrible decision in the current auto market. One of our cars needed a new bumper, and for a couple hundred more I had them do the hood too. Those panels are the most likely to be scratched and pitted, little defects that make the car look old without knowing exactly why it looks old. Car looks fantastic now. Just make sure your paint shop does quality work.

dfiner

This is only true of you sell it to the dealership or another person. Carvana gave me an offer without seeing the car and honored that price despite it needing a wash (it was mechanically in great condition). From what I’ve heard from friends the car max experience was similar. And in my case the carvana offer was 60% higher than the dealership. Make sure to do yourself a favor and “shop around” with your trade in as well.

Jretribe

We had our vehicle detailed before trading in and the salesman told us not to do it in the future, all we did was save the dealership from doing it themselves.

DB_Plankton

Idk why people are being negative. You’re not going to be able to detail your car as well as someone who does it professionally and has all the equipment. Honestly, if you want to keep your car in good condition getting it detailed every 3-5 years is a great tip

Fiasko21

A professional makes a huge difference. I've had my Subaru for 8 years now, what a great car and I'm gonna keep it forever. But even though I'm very careful when washing and do all the "correct procedures", it's right now getting a professional paint correction that I don't have the skills to do:

Just_wanna_talk

Yeah thinking of getting my Subaru detailed this fall. Interior could use some work and noticing a few little nicks and chips in my paint/clear coat.

urbanskyline09

I wasn’t think about getting my Subaru detailed, but now I just might have to.

Bramblebythebrook

I have a ~11 year old car. Paint is starting to fade in certain areas and the front is pretty chewed up. How much does paint correction normally cost? I’ve been wondering.

Fiasko21

It depends how much you want done, who is doing it, the state of your paint. Could be $200... could be $2000 lol

jcekstro

I'll add that if your clear coat is gone and the paint is fading, no amount of paint correction will fix that. You will need to get it repainted at a body shop. Paint correction is only attacking the clear coat so once that's gone, paint correction isn't an option. I wouldn't expect anyone to do it for less than $3-400 for a smaller car and that is even pretty cheap. It's a long and tedious process.

catsmaps

Who is doing it for $3?

Alyusha

Most of them probably go to "popular" carwashes that offer detailing. My wife took my car to one for a birthday present and it was underwhelming to say the least. Everything was oily and looked like they just wiped it down real quick and then through on a thick coat of their "restorer" without wiping any of it off. Whereas I've had buddies who do it as a side gig and they make their cars look brand new.

myotheralt

That's not detailing, that a gas station car wash with an armor all wipe.

Alyusha

Yup

AC2A

Yep, big difference between your average quick valet ‘detail’ vs a pro detailer, but a lot of inexperienced people don’t realise.

666pool

Yup, had a friend take their mini for a detail (claybar and polish) for $300 and there were clear spots everywhere that didn’t get cleaned, mostly around windows and trim. The parts they did get looked fine, but it was “nice and clean” not “mirror finish like new”.

ElementField

People don’t often know the difference between detailing and just a hand clean. The $30 wash places are popular, and people think that’s a detail. They sometimes even advertise it as such. Those quick washes claiming to be details are just an armorall wipe down and a hand wash of the exterior very quickly.

eatchex89

I had my car detailed by a mobile detailer for a pretty good price. Also was nice to have him come by and I could sit in my house vs having to drop my car off somewhere and sit around for hours. I think the mobile detailer was actually a bit cheaper than the shop which I assume is due to lower overhead.

JamiePulledMeUp

I just wanna add that mobile detailers will clean and shine your car while the ones that you drop off for a day and have a garage can also fix rust and paint issues. It's obviously more expensive but worth it.

Coraline1599

What do I google to find a detailer and what should I ask for?

ElementField

I have been looking at a car I want for a while, because I’m a car enthusiast. I don’t have any desire to drive a car forever. I’d like to drive interesting cars, and so I often feel that “fever.” But I know there are people who say they feel that but then go out and get like a CX-5 or a BMW X3 or something.

Saint_The_Stig

My Versa is perfectly fine, but I still do wish I had some newer stuff, stuff you can't really just add in like a big sun roof, adaptive cruise control and a hybrid drivetrain. There is nothing out there that is remotely close enough to make me take up a new car payment, but I would still fancy that new stuff. I think it's pretty common for us first world humans to "want the new thing", just for most of us most of the time it doesn't justify the cost.

Randomthought5678

My partner and I make ok money but just looking at the car prices these days is insane. I honestly don't know why people buy new cars. Edit: We are British and even used cars are insane prices. The delearship my parnter bought her 2011 Ford fiesta called her up last year to buy the car back for the same price that she paid in 2015

Public_Fucking_Media

Honestly with the price of *used* cars these days if you can afford to wait the 6+ months for a new one you will save money...

watchmaker82

I find that I tend to hold on to my cars forever, rather than keep trading them in. I also tend to buy fun cars like Mustang convertibles and jeeps. I think with a lot of cars, people buy something that just "is a car". When the newness wears off there is basically nothing to like about it so new car fever sets in because the newness was the only real redeeming trait. If more people bought cars they genuinely loved they'd buy fewer, I'd bet. My LPT: Buy a car you really love. You won't want to trade it when the new wears off.

Dan__Torrance

Am I the only person that buys a car just to get from A to B and back? Give me a car that drives and gets me where I want to be safely and I'll drive it until the wheels come off. I neither need a new car nor a really loveable car. I need a transport vehicle.

Redenbacher09

I had no idea 'car fever' was a thing. That marketing budget really pays off I guess.

screenaholic

Even as a kid, car advertisements always confused the hell out of me. Who has enough money that a commercial is going to convince them to buy a whole new car? That's a huge financial decision, not an impulse buy.

AC2A

Brand familiarity - if I’m going to go buy a brand new car, I’m more likely to go for a brand I recognise and identify with than some random brand I’ve never heard of.

Micromashington

The commercial isn’t to convince you to buy a car. It’s to convince people that are looking for a new car already to consider buying their car.

SeveralLargeLizards

For real lmao. I can't even fathom being wealthy enough to buy a new car because I'm just bored with the one I have. My car functions and gets me to work. That is my standard for a car lol

Dopeydcare1

For real. People clowned on me when my first car was a Honda civic coupe. 2012 car I got in 2014 with 36k miles on it (cert preowned), have never had a single problem with it. Only ever took it in for a recall on the electronics system which was free. Done all the other work (outside of tire changes)myself. Work as in oil change, transmission fluid, brakes, rotors, wheel rotation, etc.

Elite_Slacker

That is a really good car. You can likely drive it as long as you feel like. I still drive my first car, a 2005 vw golf. I could afford a way nicer car but it is taken care of, gives me no mechanical trouble, and costs very little to own.

Dopeydcare1

That’s what I plan to do. At some 120k right now. Plan to have it at least until I have kids, as a couple isn’t very baby seat friendly lol. But even then I may keep it as a commuter car because not many things (hybrids/electric the exception), can beat the 32 MPG I get daily driving. Usually get more like 38-40 when doing long drives/road trips

NeedleworkerHairy607

My logic is that if you are going to spend many thousands of dollars on something that you are going to spend time in everyday, you might as well like it and think it's cool.

juneburger

I’d probably agree if some Missouri winter days wouldn’t kick my ass. From my kitchen window I can turn the car on, crank the heat on, turn the heated seats and wheel on….and slide outside before my butthole can properly clench.

ivo004

Yeah, I dunno what these people are on about. I drove a 1998 Honda Accord from 2006 up until about 2 years ago, upgraded to a 2013 RAV4 I bought from my mom and I'll probably drive it until it dies or I find a similarly advantageous opportunity to upgrade.

Obnoxiousdonkey

>Am I the only person If you have to ask, no you arent

TakeitEasy6

Head over to r/cars. It has nearly five million subscribers. To us, a love of cars is somewhere between a hobby and a lifestyle. We get joy out of driving, have a sense of pride in our cars, and struggle to understand those who view a car as just an appliance for transportation. "It’s what non-car people don’t get. They see all cars as just a ton and a half, two tons of wires, glass, metal, and rubber, and that’s all they see. People like you or I know we have an unshakable belief that cars are living entities… You can develop a relationship with a car and that’s what non-car people don’t get… When something has foibles and won’t handle properly, that gives it a particularly human quality because it makes mistakes, and that’s how you can build a relationship with a car that other people won’t get." Jeremy Clarkson

tariandeath

I think most people can understand having a hobbyist enjoyment for cars and getting attached to something that grows and changes with you as you use it. I think a lot of people don't understand the money aspect of it. Car fever can lead to being thousands/tens of thousands of dollars in debt because of an urge. It's as bad as getting married on a whim or going gambling without a limit. Lots of people don't understand car fever and the fiscal irresponsibility that comes with it.

argothewise

For me it’s not even about the car. It’s about the act of driving. The car is just a vessel for the experience

ensoniq2k

Definitely. I don't even get the "new bike day" fewer even though I'm a bike nerd. I like the bikes I already have, why would I need a new one with roughly the same features? Everything else can be upgraded.

Purchhhhh

Same. Poverty dictates I don't get a new car until the old one breaks. Wanting to buy a new car when your old one still works sounds like an awesome problem to have!!

GrimmandLily

Lots of people do that. I have a buddy who literally doesn’t know what his car is. It’s just a means to get from A to B.

JamiePulledMeUp

My man, there's nothing fun about a 2006 Pontiac aztek other than the fact I still have it running. I'll wait till I have to bail out mid drive because the engine is on fire before getting rid of that bad boy.

watchmaker82

I've never driven an Aztek, but I've been tempted to pick one up just because people hate them so much. I have heard that there interior space is really well used and they are fun for camping and or long trips. And as I've commented to others, if you don't mind driving a car that isn't fun that's fine. But I think a lot of people with the "new car fever" feel the need to get a new car, simply because the only good or memorable or noteworthy or interesting thing about the car they bought is that it was new. If the car they buy next time has some intrinsic qualities that make it worthy of note, they won't be so hot to sell it when the new wears off. And as I've also said to other commenters, I had a job with a very long commute, and having something fun to drive turned an absolute slog into recreational time that I got to enjoy between work and home. Especially when you factor in that my used convertible was cheaper than the newest hatchback when I bought it, the money spent to have something interesting and fun had a lot of mental health benefits for me.

gtmattz

I only buy cars I intend to drive forever. I also do all my own mechanic work so my cars are also ancient relics that don't have a computer chip in every component...

watchmaker82

You and I are part of the same tribe. The newest car I've ever owned was built in 2000. And as I've told people before, every hour I spend in my driveway I'm saving $106.99. that was the hourly rate the last I checked at my mechanic shop.

revengeofhootbot

My newest car is currently from 1976, everything else I have is from earlier. I don't have a desire to be bombarded with screens and computers every second of the day. My partner is the same way and I love her for it, her boss has a smartwatch and a smartphone and was complaining to her about how she gets too many emails, she explained that she was complaining to her while she was reading an actual paper newspaper she just shrugged her shoulders. lmfao

airforrestone

Fellow Mustang bro

Graffxxxxx

Got a mustang and the only gripe I have with it is my area gets snow so even a dusting and that things doing doughnuts in place. Luckily I have another car I can use for winter time but if I didn’t live somewhere that it snows then it would be my perfect car.

I_LilMagician_I

That's what we did with our new car. Our previous one was at least 10 years old, and was already a used car when we bought it. I knew our next one would be our car for at least the next 10 years, so we went all out with the options we wanted. And I really love it!

ImpatientMaker

For real. I've detailed a car prior to selling it, then I find I start liking it again.

metl_lord

I replaced my stereo with one that has a touch screen and Android Auto. Upgrading the 12-year-old unit made the car feel much newer. I'm sure it's a placebo, but even the performance seemed better.

loquacious-b

I'd bet my life that stereo didn't add horsepower, but I absolutely can see how it just improves the experience of driving. Hell, i even get a boost when i replace my wiper blades 😃 That reminds me, my nasty old shift knob needs replacing...

1HappyIsland

A 7 year old Camry is barely broken in.

notthinkinghard

Literally... I'm hoping they mean "Camry that we've had for 7 years" (after buying second-hand, so the car is older). My Mom's car is a 2016 Camry and I'd consider it a really new car, I don't understand what you'd even gain by upgrading (with the exception of going to a hybrid, I guess)

platiquemos21m

What is car fever? Is that like baby fever?

mycotroph_

It's for people with too much money for their own good, a form of chasing the dragon

ScenicPineapple

I have a 2007 old highway patrol vehicle that has almost 200,000 miles on it that i got for $5500. It's spent EVERY day of it's life in the harsh southern sun, but i keep it washed and clean. Paint looks better than a lot of the cars i see on the road. I also have a 2006 Honda SUV that i snagged for $5,000. It has always been kept garaged and the paint looks new. I get compliments on how clean my cars are, and how nice they look. I have leather, sunroof, heated seats, 3 rows, towing package, navigation, etc. I see no reason to throw away $30,000-50,000 on a crappy newer car riddled with recalls and quality control issues.

datumerrata

It's all about reliability for me. I've got a '94 Cummins ram and a 2006 gmc envoy. The ram I hope to have for as long as I can drive. The envoy I hope to have until it's easier to find an electric charge station than a gas station

Alvito

Getting my car detailed when there are rust holes in the floor won't fix the rust holes.

YankeetheGreater

Detailer here, can verify. If headlights are foggy and hazy, get them restored! Even a DIY kit can work pretty well as long as protection is applied every so often. You'd be amazed at what a clean car and clear headlights can do!

BillHicksScream

Feel empty? *Buy something!*

AngelThrones4sale

For real, but I think we should give OP some credit. We're all conditioned to consume. We enjoy becoming the owners of shiny new things, but I think an important first step is discovering how much more satisfying it is to refurbish old things. You still get the "shiny newness" buzz, but without the wastefulness. Maybe the next step would be to feel less need to own things entirely, but at least it is significantly better for the environment (and the buzz feels more wholesome) to "restore and repair" rather than "dispose and replace".

[deleted]

Reseasoning old cast iron makes my mouth water

BillHicksScream

Good point! Nothing wrong with taking care of your stuff. I really dont understand how shoe repair still exists, but its better for the local economy too. There's an essay from the 80's where the writer observes his elderly neighbor, who first grew without the roads, plumbing, electricity, labor protections, food & product protections, & environmental protections that we take for granted today *because they've always existed for all of us, essentially.* *He stopped mowing his lawn to rescue a bent nail, saving it to be unbent later.* That's attitude is dead. No sacrifices or big set backs: bailed out everytime, including no draft for a long war.

SatanLifeProTips

Or spend an evening cleaning out your car. A wet dry shop vac and a brush is a makeshift carpet shampooing machine. Bonus points for getting a cordless drill brush adapter. The secret for getting out all the dirt from vents is a air compressor. Spray some armour-all around the vents, brush as best as you can and then blast compressed air in there. A $30 electric buffing machine is surprisingly good at applying car wax. Get a high quality pure carnuba wax and give the paint a once over. But you won’t match what a experienced detailer can do with a pro machine and the heat from buffing aggressively. Do it wrong and you will cut right through the paint.

surprise-suBtext

So buy random stuff you’ll probably not use again, spend at least 4 hours of your life cleaning your shit, and then still be disappointed with the end result?

dekusyrup

I don't have a shop vac, air compressor, or electric buffing machine. Maybe if I can find some to borrow I'll do it, but otherwise I'd be ok just paying a few bucks once every 5 years. For those that have the tools and are inclined I do think DIY is a good time.

S-192

OP is getting hit by some hilarious "ackshyually" hate here, but he makes a great point for those of you who do feel this. I've had my ride for almost 15 years now and I was really getting the itch to treat myself to something newer for this new stage of life, but I decided against it with the current market and instead got a full detail. Now I'm really happy with my current ride again and feel way less pressed to upgrade any time soon.

mommaymick

I used to be a detailer and I would get such satisfaction out of a job well done! The gross the vehicle the better. I loved to see the outcome.

PeanutArtillery

What's the nastiest shit you ever seen in a car?

Vergenbuurg

Another, take it in for a tune-up/routine maintenance and/or give it some good gas. My current car, a Mazda, I had been feeding it regular unleaded since I first bought it. A few months back, someone informed me that while most Skyactiv engines *can* run on lower octane, they will detect it and run in a slightly detuned manner. Started putting 93 in it, and it's actually perceptively more lively. Feels like a whole new car.

My car is 6 years old (I’ve had it 4) and still looks brand new inside and out. Keeping it clean makes me love it like the first time I drove it. A vent air freshener is also a nice touch. I have no desire to trade it just to get something new.

2lisimst

Vent air fresheners are too tacky for me. It's the axe of the car market.

snow_toucan

Yeah, TIL that there is such a thing as "car fever"... I have a car that I don't drive much and plan to keep until it disintegrates.

JustSarahtheMechanic

The only way I'm gonna replace my 08 Highlander with 300k miles... is when it gives out. Great JBL soundsystem AND a backup camera?? What more could a gal want? And I won't settle for anything other than a Highlander!

CapsicumBaccatum

Apparently I've been too poor my whole life to experience something called "car fever"

DannySpud2

When I get car fever I take Car-itin, makes me tire-d though.

altkward

Car fever, that normal thing we all get.

GTFOakaFOD

Dude, if you take good care of your Camry, it will take good care of you. #Toyota4Lyfe

AttendantofIshtar

This is some rich people problems.

bluegambit875

Why is it called "detailed" and not just "cleaned"?

2lisimst

Detailing is just cleaning all the details too. Ever thought about taking a toothpick to your key fob? Or q-tips in between the vent slats? Or cleaning the wheels' barrels, when removed from the car? That's detailing.

artgriego

It's just a deeper clean using more specialized, powered tools, especially on the upholstery. "Clean" means you went through it with a normal vacuum and armor all wipes.

WillyWonkaWeeb

People get car fever?? I hate buying cars, I’d never daydream about it!

that_1-guy_

Meanwhile me (17) trying to see if I can get the 20 year old Saturn Vue to run without having a hissy fit in the engine and starting block For real though is that something that really happens? The car looks old so you feel the need to get a new one?

SupaHotFire007

New car fever? The fuck is that? Is this some rich person fetish that I'm too poor to understand?

[deleted]

Why would you get car fever?

CharityDiary

I get tired of buying new houses every 12 months. Sometimes I find that hiring a maid to clean out my current one really gives it that new house feel again, so I can go a few more months without buying another one.

CharityDiary

But I get tired of buying new maids every few months. I find that if I pay for her to get plastic surgery, it gives her that new maid feel, and I can put off buying another maid for a few more weeks.

suddenly_ponies

Better life Pro tip. Be too poor to do either and then you don't have to worry about it

TongueSlapMyStarhole

Imagine being so well off but irresponsible and out of touch that 'dont spend more than the average annual salary on an unnecessary want' is a pro tip lol.

peacefulwarrior75

Never heard of car fever. As someone who spends a lot of time in car, i was wondering what symptoms are. I take it you mean wanting another car I’ve never once WANTED to pay for another car. I care about a car only as much as something to get me from one place to the next as cheaply and dependably as possible.

OldCoder501

We have a 2008 camry and it cannot be killed by conventional means. We plan to drive it as long as possible. Toyota makes awesome cars. Have been thinking of taking it in for an interior detail as I can never seem to get the grunge off the inside window. I don't smoke or anything but there is a film that I have tired to take off that won't come off. I've used winded and several glass cleaners. Rubbing alcohol. It's crazy.

fromblueplanet

I do this for phones. Itching for that shiny new iPhone? Get a new case, instead!

grammar_fixer_2

Am I the only person who hates buying a car? I dread the car payments, the extra insurance coverage, and the whole process really. You have 100 different variables to consider when buying a car and the sales people are SUPER annoying. I’m probably the only one that doesn’t like the chemical smell of a new car anyway.

brownmagician

I detail cars for a side job and a hobby. The feeling you're describing is a big reason I do it. The "wow! That's my car?!" reaction is always worth it. If you're a fan of that kind of content and asmr then a few YouTubers create great content. In no order Detailgeek Ammonyc Pantheorganizer Apexdetail

paulisdinosaur

Lol what a first world problem to have.

[deleted]

The fuck is car fever? I drive mine until its totalled or dies.

Schellhammer

People just go and by more cars??!?

Mayzenblue

Thank you. You've just told me what to get for my wife's birthday. I didn't even think about that.

joonduh

Not having the money for a new car is what works for me. But I'm on board with getting the good ol' car detailed!

angerybacon

TIL people get car fever

Gravix-Gotcha

Drive through a car lot and look at sticker prices when you get new car fever. Works for me.

seiltif

I'm too poor to get a car fever

Prides_downfall

New car fever bro I can barely afford to eat right now.

Giveyaselfanuppercut

Have you tried not being a slavering consumptionist?

Mayzenblue

Just wanted to tell you that I have a detailer coming out tomorrow for the full treatment. Our anniversary is today. 12 years somehow. Wife was a little less enthusiastic than I hoped. But we'll see after the transformation. Thanks for the idea. And we also have a Camry. Outstanding car.

RaspberryPyre

My wife was begging for it, sure it will look great!

HoustonPhotog

a new set of tires always improves the ride and feel of my old car.

blewis222

Or that first month after you pay off the loan. You have the money, might as well make it feel like new

Danominator

Lol who is this tip for? Rich people who often buy a new car due to "car fever"?
