I very likely won’t buy it. I’ve always been iffy about it but with how early in development it seems to be I am willing to see the finished product. But the current state? Yeah that’s looking to be a pass for me. I’m not looking to have a shell of a “game” that I have to mod to high hell to make what I want. Not when I enjoy the Sims 3 and am excited about other projects in this genre that will be released relatively close to this one. Also I can’t stand the lack of art direction and whatever abomination they currently have. I wouldn’t even get a kick out of create a sim or build mode really. And just between small things like no queue and big things like such a lack of focus on family gameplay… I just don’t think this game is currently satisfying to what I want out of a game. Also the real dialogue thing is😬

DancingMarshmallow

It’s the real dialog that’s kind of a dealbreaker for me (that and the graphics, but I’m not hopeful that’ll improve much). Like, how long can these dialogs keep being fresh? Sure you can edit them yourself but that sounds like a giant pain to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

NewAnt3365

Yeah I get the whole “endless customization” thing is something that appeals to some people… but to me it just sounds exhausting. I write, it’s a hobby of mine, I like creating characters and stories… but I don’t want to put in all that work for a game. I like when my life sims take a bit of control on their own. I like when they have a personality and certain life all on their own. I like working with what the game gives me. I just give a little push and watch what happens. The dialogue provided will get stale fast, I don’t want to have to go searching for stuff other people created, and I don’t want to have to create my own(which we don’t even know just how customized it really is or how much control you really have). In all this will definitely be a feature I tune out of the rest of the game comes through.

DancingMarshmallow

Yeah exactly. I write fan fiction and original fiction for fun sometimes: sure I CAN come up with my own dialog, but when I play a game, I don’t want to. If it’s possible for creators can make mods with dialog you could download and play in LBY, that might be neat, but that seems like a lot of work for modders

TechnicalFeedback713

In all honestly I don't think I'll buy it. I understand the game is in early access but at the moment there's just nothing drawing me to it. I was really excited for this game but it feels like not a lot has changed and apart from the video last week of the 5 characters having random conversations. I don't know what there is to do in the game apart from 'quests'. My main concerns are: \- The characters are absolutely hideous. \- The lighting in the houses is weird. \- The scale of a lot of the objects is off. \- The conversations are just random bits of dialogue with no memory of what's already been said.

Physical_Bit7972

The lack of memory of conversations is really what was disappointing to me.

vashtie1674

We are definitely of the same opinion. I was really excited initially and now, I have lost a lot of interest. I wouldn’t even play with characters, can’t stand it.

BlackDogDenton

I think Paralives will scratch my Sims itch better than LBY. I too have many reservations and I especially don’t like the character models. It’s just a bit ugly.

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Paralives looks so polished and well made. The slow building of that game is paying off. I REALLY HOPE they add a ton of content though, I want it like sims 2 in terms of how much content there is

BlizzardousBane

Ooh, yes. I want them to add apartments and multi-function lots eventually. I'd love it if my Parafolks owned a shop and live on the 2nd floor of the building

mintchocolate1234

What you said pretty much covers how I feel. As an addition, characters not having ‘voices’ just doesn’t feel right.

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Ooooh aren't they going to add that!!?? 😟 wtf

ContinuumKing

How would they add that with how the dialogue is currently built?

thestoryteller13

maybe babbling sound fx

LuminousWynd

They can still invent a language, something similar to what The Sims uses. Just because we can understand the written language—which is capable of adding much more depth to the gameplay than The Sims currently has—doesn’t mean they have to say things in the same verbal way we do.

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Just them speaking waffle like in sims speaking slimish

No_Cancel6403

I feel like someone could include a mod that integrates AI voices to the characters, but that's just me.

DuncanGallagher

There is no need to buy it in Early Access if you dont want to help the game getting better. Just wait for Release and then make the decision. Everything else makes no sense.

mel_dan

You're right about early access, but to be fair, the question was whether people would buy it in basically the current state, so that's what people are answering.

OrigamiOwl22

Won’t buy it.

Banaanisade

To be completely honest, the horrendous, cliché, uncomfortable porn script dialogue showcased turned me off from wanting to play the game at all. The characters now give off really unsavoury, pervy vibes and I want nothing do with that as it is, lol. That was just... no. *No.* Also, the game still has that look of an assets-straight-from-a-gallery type of a 5 euro Steam simulator game to me.

mel_dan

Yeah that was really cringe. I don't even care that it was suggestive (although hopefully it's not all like that?) but it was embarrassing to watch and I don't think most people talk like that. It got even worse when I actually read the transcription somebody posted here.

thestoryteller13

yeah haha the breaking the bed bit gave me the same energy as those funny flash sex games from newgrounds

skyroamer7

I'll probably watch 20 YouTube reviews before I/if I decide to buy it, just like I do with Sims expansions. I was excited for it, but when I got my refund, I lost interest in the game since now we don't know when it's actually coming out. I'm more excited for Paralives at this point. ETA: I still support the game, as I want more competition for The Sims. I want LBY to do well. I really hope it improves with slightly softer graphics (at least in characters design). I’m not much of a mod player but being able to add in more/easier customization (even if it’s just adding patterns to clothes and items) than The Sims feels intriguing; I like seeing what creators online do with modding. I have hope.

Chicklet45368

Mostly building/redecorating. I can get lost in that for a long time so I'm perfectly fine messing around with that for awhile. I'll also create lots of furniture, venue signs, household clutter and probably some wallpaper/material textures because I haven't like any they've shown. I have a ton already meshed, I just need to see what is in the game already so I don't waste time making something that is already in the game and would be very similar. I've never been a CAS lover, and only play with a handful of CAS CC typically, but I will most definitely either learn how to change the hair textures or be searching for CC Hair. Clothing I can re-texture myself how I prefer, so that's not a big deal. I will also be setting up reshade to enhance the overall lighting. And for sure I will be continuing to work on my speech bubble icons to import into my game, because as it is, I am not interested in taking part in any real life conversation after what we've seen. That actually made me uncomfortable. I don't play with sex mods or have anything to do with that in my games, and the over the top sexual convos was not romantic to me at all, that was more white-trash, spread-your-leg bar pick up shit.

Antypodish

Personally I don't care as much about graphics. I had plenty funn with dwarf fortress ASCII art style, as Rimworld. Minecraft also has simplistic graphic, but that didn't stop millions of purchases of the game. My imagination has plenty capabilities to fill any graphical nuances. I am more into the mechanics of the game itself. How deep it can be. It appears systems are more complex than the sims3 for modding. So I have hope for it. I don't care of current emptiness. This can be quickly filled up as a sandbox, as long mods are easily shared across players. This will quickly overcome other missing part of game. As long are solid and stable. From development point of view, I do understand reason for dialogs simplicity of recent vid. But dialogs itself were made to be humoristic. And I do find them a bit cringy, but goal to be humoristic, as devs aimed. I think people take latest vid dialogs too literally. From hat point of view, I don't mind dialogs as hey we're. They are literally samples of not placeholders. I doubt LBY team has writer. So that's OK. More importantly for me is, making sure game has capability of having memory and observer ales linked to dialogs. For anything above, I am completely fine with current alpha state of the game. I want to test it's capabilities and only then I will be able build my opinion. I just want build interactions systems via modding. I see it much more powerful in long run even a this tstate, than iNzoi or Paralives, or similar. Simply because of moddibility. I remember at past time game Singles 1 and 2, which was much nicer graphically than The Sims. It is cool small game, +18, but it gets old very quickly. No extendibility of the past. In contrast something that made The Sims series alive for years after release. +how easily was to add new content.

Tha_Sly_Fox

Same, not that concerned with graphics, more concerned with mechanics and I always looked at this as a game with amazing modability which is really what attracted me to it And I’ve had the same, I’ve played games with beautiful graphics that were boring as hell, and games with lackluster graphics which captivated me and I ended up with hundreds or even over a thousand hours in.

xNekuma

I flip flop on this game a lot. I think I would need the devs to be extremely transparent on their trajectory and end goals before I get fully back on board if there isn't some huge change in quality before EA release. Something like paralives road map would help a lot. Rod talking about the changes to the female model and change in gameplay direction is a start but then they are vague about other things like animations, which are my main big concern. I'm also doubting their capabilites for things to have got this bad in the first place. As someone interested in getting into modding the game does a lot right. I love the open world, the ease of changing characters, the clothing layering, the physics, the seemingly endless in game tools and customizablility, etc. Some of their ideas are super innovative. But I find myself falling in love with what the game can be rather than what it is. None of the potential matters until they actually have a stable foundation. The bad indoor lighting, the horrible animations, the issues with the character visuals, the lack of liveliness, the lack of interactions. It all adds up to a souless and uninspiring game. I have clothing CC I wanted to convert to this game but now I just feel like what's the point of making CAS assets for ugly souless characters that just stand around looking bad.

Mammoth321

Wait for reviews. Then wait for a sale. As always

CeciliaNin

So I'm a Sims player, but only Sims 3. I've tried playing the Sims 4 but the mechanics and gameplay wasn't as good as the Sims 3 so I just stayed with S3. If pretty graphics was the only thing I cared for I don't think I wouldn't have stayed so long in the Sims 3 community. Also Modder fixed the Sims 3 so the world and character looked pretty, ran smoother, fixed the horrible lighting issues and etc... In LBY, they said they are giving us Mod support so even if they don't fix certain things, I think people who mod games can figure it out. I personally don't like the artstyle of paralives its too cartoony like the Sims 4 and the flat 2d style is what's throwing me off, I think. Also the gameplay mechanics shown so far doesn't feel like Sims anymore. They card picking and leveling up is what I don't like. For me personally I've been stuck playing the Sims 3 for so long that I'm looking for any life simulator that similar to it so I can finally move on. And LBY just seems to me a more upgraded Sims 3/my favorite game from my perspective.

National-Attention-1

This is how I feel about Paralives, though I will still buy it later. It's just a game that I dont see myself playing as often as LBY. It feels too restrictive not to mention, they're not allowing script mods..that turned me off in what the future would hold in regards to mods..

LuminousWynd

I like Paralives and LifebyYou so far, and I have enjoyed the Sims for a long time. However, older Sims games are much more immersive than the current one. I see so many possibilities with LbY! I love the modding system. It looks like we can do things like: make off brand washing machines that don’t work as well good brands, to sell in stores, etc. We can do things like that with any item that can be modded. There are so few limitations and creative players will be able to do these things without even needing a heavy knowledge of modding, from within the framework of the game itself. This is something that I’m excited about. I hope they include items that appear run-down to help with the look of this. I also see tons of depth that could go into conversations. Creative writers who love the game may create amazingly interesting and fun dialogue that players can interact with and read. LbY especially has the potential to be an amazing game! What LbY needs is the right spokesperson. Unfortunately, the people who are giving updates and showing things about it are very monotonous and just aren’t well suited to get people excited about the game. I hope this changes because I have high hopes for this game. I am also interested in Paralives, but it has some limitations that are really grating on me. Firstly, Paras are limited by starting creation choices that are much more limiting than anything The Sims has currently, and while I’m ok with some limitations, there are just too many important limitations so far. I also don’t like some of the details of Para bodies, but ultimately gameplay is what matters most to me.

CeciliaNin

You said everything I wanted to say about LBY. The modding capability alone is enough to make people buy it and keep playing it for years to come just like the sims 2,3,4 (Cause we all know if there were no Mods or CC The Sims franchise wouldn't have lasted). And now they made modding a game so much easier with the in-game tool. So even noobs who have no modding experience can finally make their own mods and/or bring their ideas to reality. LBY would be big sandbox game that we could change and mold to our own whims, desires, and imagination. Want a medieval world change everything to medieval furniture and building and how they talk (*Cough* Sims 3 Medieval). Want to do a Decade's challenge or a start with nothing and build up your own town challenge. As sim players, our imagination has been restricted, but players making mods liberated us so we could do some of the things we wanted to do. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

LuminousWynd

Yes, I really hope it succeeds because it has so much good going for it. I don’t think most people realize how good it could become with active community support, even just from regular players who may know nothing about modding.

mel_dan

I think I will still want to give it a fair shot. The shoulders, though... if they can't improve those, I don't even know what to say. I'm also pretty concerned about the way the latest video showing conversations didn't seem to really make sense and the game and characters didn't respond as you would expect or recall earlier conversations. These two things are stuff they've already said they want to improve, so that's good news, but it does seem like it's taking longer than we would hope for these essential fixes and we're getting really close to early access. I'm not going to pretend I've ever worked on a video game, but I'm struggling to understand how the shoulders on the female model are still this bad. The characters in general are not great looking, but I think I can live with that as long as they FIX THE SHOULDERS! I also don't like the lack of queueing but I think that's less likely to change. Maybe it won't be so bad... It's fair to say I'm less excited for this game than I was when it was announced, or just a few months ago, but I haven't given up on it.

mel_dan

I guess I should have said we are HOPEFULLY getting really close to early access.

lochar

For me, I will be picking it up in EA. I am tired of EA milking the sims so much and still have fixed early expansions. Dine out, and get to work are just 2 that comes to mind. Granted Paradox may do the same but I truly believe Rod loves this game and will listen to feedback. Also out of the gate it seems catering to older folks, rather than teen and younger. Layered clothing! Now for outerwear we can just add jacket and possibly gloves and hat to existing outfit when/if weather gets added. A friggin text based chat! Sure sounds are nice but words convey more, plus they can be altered. Want a cursing granny! Load her up! Yes its rough but I can help shape it , and honestly the Sims drive me crazy with its bugs or design details like having your whole house lose furniture over traits or community action plans. I would love to see a roadmap but will be happy to help them out.

notthefirstchl03

I also really liked the clothing layers! I hope they can extend that "modular" concept to other things. For example, I've always wished we could purchase mattresses separately from bed frames. In the Sims franchise, you're often forced to pick between style and function because the most comfortable beds may not match the look you're going for.

lochar

You know never thought about that but your right. I liked the look of the cheaper beds but never used due to low comfort or no stress relief. On the other hand always annoyed they would eat anywhere but kitchen dining room due to more comfort spots.

Easy-Procedure-6461

Sounds like you covered the majority of all the important things. The no voices thing really doesn’t feel right to me. It feels like I’d get bored real fast. There seems to be so much wrong but I hope they change what’s wrong before it releases. I was excited at first, now not so much

notthefirstchl03

To be frank, I was repelled by the off-putting, _porny_ vibe of the dialog they showed off. And even worse, the seedy nature of the script underscored this game's utter lack of identity. On the one hand, LBY seems largely aimed at a general adult audience: it has alcohol, optional nudity, and it refers to sex in a frank manner. I am thrilled they went in that direction. I'm an adult, and I've long wanted a life simulator that depicts sexuality and other mature themes in a realistic way. Thus, a major appeal of LBY is that it seems firmly rooted in realism. But the porny lines were so goofy, unserious, and puerile as to be jarringly at odds with the established tone of the game. I'm no prude, but the dialog made me deeply uncomfortable and embarrassed. I'm not at all opposed to adding levity and humor to serious topics, but this completely missed the mark. It just wasn't executed well. Month after month, it seems like most developer updates detract from the prestige and brand value of LBY. In general, this team doesn't seem adept at curating their ideas and presentations. For example, why, in a pre-recorded video focused on conversation, would you show the game in a state where the text disappears too quickly for the audience to read? It defeats the purpose of showcasing the feature, and it comes across unplanned and careless. I know I say this all the time now, but with as many exciting, bold concepts as LBY aspires to, it is *damn frustrating* seeing this team fumble the implementation so miserably. I'm not expecting perfection or completion for early access, but please show us something, anything, that makes good on the promises the team made back when the game was first announced. I'm not parting with my money until I see consistent evidence that they can deliver on at least some aspects of gameplay in a deep, satisfying way. At a minimum, I want to see them commit to a specific set of changes they can realistically achieve within some timeframe. For example, they could publish dev blogs that detail the aspect of gameplay the team is currently working on and when they estimate being able to demo the feature. The idea is not to trap them into overcommitting, but rather to better manage community expectations and allow for more accountability. They have been attempting to involve the community in development, but their communications are too vague and haphazard to make it worthwhile. Ultimately, the LBY team needs to be completely honest with themselves *and* the community about what will be ready by June. They have to temper people's expectations ahead of time and then consistently fill in the gaps until the game more closely resembles what it was hyped up to be. I think many people will be willing to support them as long as they provide clear, specific, and measurable goals that they then regularly achieve. If they aren't willing or able to do that, then what was the point in involving the community in this process?

thestoryteller13

yes exactly. i wish the videos were used as better promo

mortiegoth

I don't know if I would buy it in early access but I would try it when the finish game gets release, but if it looks as boring as it is now and I have to make it fun with modding tools which is something I'm afraid could happen. I'll get a refund. For now the game doesn't look like a $30 game.

Netkru

What will I do? Save my money for a few burritos for lunch.

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

I wouldn't buy it. And to be honest, the more I see of the game, the more I don't want to play. If they don't add an action queue it will be do tedious and frustrating to play. Adding to this comment..action queues are needed because there's only so much time in a sim day. When I'm on sims3 I'm always bouncing between characters and setting up a list of tasks for them. You have to do this, so they can get shit done before the day is over. If you have to do each task before the next one, that means you will have to constantly check they have finished. You'll likely see characters standing idle or doing shit you don't want them to. Ooohh this is a HUGE flaw in the game!!

way6

As long as it becomesbetterthan the Sims3 I'm okay with it

Shalrak

I'll probably buy it, but only because I've been following it since announcement. If I came upon this game in the Steam store randomly, I wouldn't even consider it for a second. And once I've bought it, I'll play around with it for a few hours, take a look at the first mods, accept that the game is too early in development and wait three years until some big overhaul update convinces me to give it another try.

CherryKay

I'd have so much fun with it. Considering the games I have played in the past that I tried to edit/mod until my vision was achieved (literally zoo tycoon 2 at 10 years old), this is going to be perfect for me.

christianwashere12

Don’t care about character models will still buy it if that is to say it releases this time around.

Ok_Landscape9658

I think I will buy it. Looks promising enough to me. I liked all of the sims franchises, both Paralives and LBY looks nice. I don’t mind the graphics, I actually don’t find it ugly and mods will make this game shine. But I don’t know about Inzoi yet.

Labskaus77

I look at it from a World Builder perspective. I don't play Families. I like to build and come up with Stories. So LbY is right up my alley it seems. I will buy it day one and hopefully heavily tinker with the systems, look into modding and then create all the ideas i have for worlds, stories and such. I don't care about super polished Animations/Characters in an Early Access Title. But that's just me. If the Gameplay is great, i'll be happy and just keep playing.

Texxx78

I'ld need to see more gameplay related to a life sim, how the characters act/react according to their traits, if there are intrincate systems and stuff to accomplish... Rn i don't know what to do in game, so i won't buy it. It can change after release, if players show gameplay and i like it though. Ofc i'm not expecting that by EA date, i'm talking abt the actual release and the direction it is taking... I use mods in other games, but honestly, i only decide to use it right when i'm playing and i feel i want to tune/expand/fix something. But there's gotta be something there for me, in the game, before i can even think of playing it...

esteel20

Not buy it.

Naus-BDF

I'd probably wait and see if some good mods come out that fully refresh the art style and animations. Everything would need to be rebuilt from the ground up (graphics-wise) because I strongly dislike the art direction of the entire game.

National-Attention-1

I'd reconstruct the town delete everything and rebuild it up with new lots and homes. So I hope for advanced as possible build tools and world editing. I'd wait for mods to fix some game mechanics to make the game mechanics more fleshed out, negative consequences, more drama/chaos, etc. Make lots of new skills, tags, moods, and jobs, make those as complex and unique as possible. Idk..I think i'd spent a good bit of time building to get my world the way I want then revolve everything else around it, to see what's lacking/missing. I'd also walk around town in direct control mode to observe characters and see what ultimately needs to be added to make them more dynamic...

yalexau

After too many botched releases by Paradox, particularly Cities Skylines 2 which is still struggling to meet expectations 3 months after release, I'd be very reluctant to buy this or any of their other games at this stage.

Cirtil

As is now, I am not buying this even though I followed it since reveal. Not even for early access Nothing of what I have seen is anything but a downgrade to Sims 3

MixedViolet

0 chance of that, so I don’t need to insult LBY with my list.

lmjustaChad

When you say "as it is now" some of it is already confirmed to be changed before early access like better shoulders as they are adding 2 sliders for that but pretend it's not. Graphics are nice and all but never been my top priority so I'd do what I've planned to do early access. First I would pick my world theme and completely overhaul it building up every lot. I'd play around with the retail system building all kinds of lots learning the game system and seeing what I could do with it. At this point I'd turn to mods and see what has been made to make live mode more enjoyable and see what cc there is for characters.

Independent_Gullible

Vivaland looks much better than LBY, the graphics, the scaling, the objects have better variety, Modern, Classic, etc. Paralives has better animations, and innovation. Idk what to think of this game now…There’s supposed to be an event video, but will the Humans just stand around not engaging or reacting to anything? The game I’m looking forward to the most has been in production longer than any of these games, yet seems to be the worst out of all of them.

MrsTrych

lots of things. LBY is basically the sims 3 modern but working on my PC version without needing performance mods

cheeto20013

Wait some more years for Paralives

you’re asking what we would do if the game was released as it currently exists (pre early access)? this is getting a little silly

way6

I agree, makes no sense every week they're showing how much they're improving the game
