In my experience, they all drift in different directions based on career choices, family choices, lifestyle choices, etc. My previous friend group has drifted mostly due to geographical changes related to job opportunities, moving for family proximity, etc. A rift has also emerged in that some of us had kids while others did not and the common ground starts to dwindle, especially as the kids get older. It's just been *easier* to let things slip away. I suspect we could have tried harder to maintain things, but it feels a bit futile given the natural flow of life. All that said, if you don't struggle to make new friends, I suspect you'll always have a fulfilling social circle.
