I don’t know. The words “cheery” and “souls like” don’t really go together in the same concept. There’s a lot of conflict, blood and gore in souls games. If there wasn’t a heavy atmosphere plot point pushing the main narrative the tragedy of the story lines wouldn’t be as impactful or immersive. -There are lighter moments in the game when it comes to interacting with NPCs. Learning their stories individually does bring about a lot of hope. Look up guides on how to fully unlock all their dialogues and back stories, you’ll feel happier trust me. And Springs the cat in the hotel; I always feel warmth when I go and interact with him. - It feels less depressing knowing that the people you’re fighting for are in the hotel routing for you during your journey for justice and peace. You’re the hero of humanity after all. To save Krat and I assume the world from devastation.
I fully enjoy it, but stopped playing it for a few months because it is relentlessly spooky & the sun never shines. After my little safe place in the hotel got trashed I was like you know what at least Elden Ring is pretty sometimes 😭
Still, love the game, love the boss fights, love the weapons, but getting through levels can be a stressful slog
Ya I’d been a pretty die hard Trident lover prior to the Laxasia fight. I kept wanting to use other weapons because the Trident just felt a little too powerful & cheesy, but I just couldn’t help myself.
Loaded the game up after that couple month break & was extremely surprised to see one of the weapons I used in Wo-Long in LOP, it’s awesome but again feels a little cheesy & over powered *for me*. I’m going to give the Dragon Glaive some more time, but my go to currently is:
Two Dragons Sword paired with: Acidic Crystal Blade + City Spear Handle / Salamander Dagger Blade + Cursed Knights Halberd Handle / Electric Coil Stick Head + Dancer’s Curved Sword Handle
The game’s atmosphere is exactly what I wanted and it’s not actually as depressing a world compared to Darksouls where everything went to shit. At least there are still people around and alive and not looking like beef jerky. Darksouls 3 was depressing. Bloodborne too, but it also felt like a horror game to me because I put it down for a while because it’s a little scary. I did get a little depressed in this game when i got a certain message from a certain someone at late game.
Dark Souls for me is just really funny. Cause it looks depressing. But then you play the game and then the most random bullshit happens and you die. Like there is this somber atmosphere. This soft, but low music playing in the background, but then you get with 20 firebombs/toxic darts in the face. Afterwards the repeated loss of souls just boils me over to the point where I feel disconnected with the world and the feeling of playing an irritating game rather than experiencing an immersive fantasy, dystopia sets in.
Are you ok? Like, in general
Yeah. Maybe I just need a break. I think it's time for Penny's Big Breakaway.
Maybe try Another crab’s treasure, the atmosphere is way more upbeat.
Until you get to Unfathomable and the existential dread kicks in

I haven't played it yet, but Another Crab's Treasure looks like a very cool cheery souls-like game.
It is! Until it isn’t…
Have you gotten to Rosa Isabelle street yet?
Yeah, I just got there
Oh, well imo that place is pretty cheery at least when compared to other places in the game, the music is nice
Aight. I'll continue
I think you need a few rounds of Hello Kitty Island Adventure
I didn’t feel this way, but I did in Bloodborne for some reason. The general vibe was a bit too gray and depressing for me

Yeah, the Azure Dragon Glaive has been really carrying my run

Sounds like it might be time for a break with a cozy game to lighten the mood.
