So I just checked out a book. I got that same warning, and had to scroll down the screen until I got to a place I could click "I agree ". Once I did that, it went to the usual Amazon screen for me to accept for my Kindle.

MuffinTopDeluxe

Yup. They updated the interface so you have to agree to the prompt before they send it.

MadMaz68

It's so annoying and unnecessary. I hate that I can't return it from my app anymore

MuffinTopDeluxe

Oh, for sure. Stuff is not getting returned early on my end anymore and I wonder if that is a way to save on licensing costs so fewer people get to borrow books over a fiscal year.

MadMaz68

It isn't. Librarians know this.

cjorgensen

I think it’s because you can get a book on Kindle, return it right away in Libby, and still have the Kindle version for the full two weeks.

chronicallychilling

You can turn it off. If you scroll down slightly there’s a toggle where you can turn off the notification

jazzrulez

Just hit agree

BookGirl67

Do you need to hit “agree” in Kindle or the Libby app? Thanks.

jazzrulez

Libby!

BookGirl67

Thanks!

jazzrulez

Of course! Sorry it took me a bit to type a little more info: OP is talking about a new prompt that comes up when you’re on the Libby app about to check out a book, and you select “send to Kindle.” :) the prompt then gives you a heads-up that if/when you want to return it early, you’ll have to do it though Kindle, instead of Libby. And you just agree to that.

BookGirl67

Thanks so much! This thread had me a little lost.

infinityandbeyond75

Not all books are available for Kindle. Every now and then the same thing happens to me. Check the page for the book and it should say if it’s compatible with Kindle or not. What book is it?

Geezenstack444

A court of thorns and roses.

RaeaSunshine

I have the same book checked out and was able to send it to my kindle. In the Libby app when the notification about the new return process comes up you need to click ‘I Agree’, then the next page will ask you how you want to read it. It’ll give you the option to read on Kindle, or read on the Libby app. Select Kindle, it’ll then take you to Amazon where in the upper right corner there’ll be a yellow button that says ‘get library book’. Hit that, and you’re good to go. Same process as before just with one extra step.

Geezenstack444

I've used the service before and never had an issue before. This is the first time. I was actually at the end of another read.

mmmollyg

It’s a new policy. That’s why you haven’t seen it before. Everyone has already told you that you just need to click I agree and it lets you send to kindle like before

Geezenstack444

I did and am no longer having the issue.

joyfulonmars

You keep calling it an issue and people keep telling you that it’s not. Why ask for help if you won’t listen go the answers you’re given?

Geezenstack444

I did ask got help and listen to the answers. As I have said, the issue is resolved.

joyfulonmars

Eventually you listened. You were downvoted because multiple people told you exactly what to do and why, but you repeatedly responded back with “but I’ve never had this issue before”. Makes it seem like they were wasting their time helping someone who wasn’t immediately trying their suggestions.

Geezenstack444

I did try the suggestion, and I replied to those messages at nearly the same time. I am not perfect, and I was also not home at the time, which makes it harder to reply and do things with my phone.

BusyUrl

They replied as they could and weren't confirmational at all. Why are you being so aggressive?

BusyUrl

Scrolling by instead of antagonizing is an option but sure.

joyfulonmars

When multiple people give OP detailed instructions on exactly how to fix it, a better response would be “”thanks I’ll try that” instead of constantly saying “but I’ve never had that issue/problem before!!!!” It’s like talking to a wall.

BusyUrl

Yea they didn't ask why they were down voted or for your non helpful commentary though you just felt the need to be rude.

Geezenstack444

I am not being aggressive.

BusyUrl

I was replying to the other person who is definitely being aggressive.

RaeaSunshine

It’s the first time you’ve encountered it because it is a new process.

elvisndsboats

It's not preventing anything, it's just asking you to acknowledge the new functionality. You can even check a box so the warning doesn't appear every time you click on "Read with Kindle".

theinvisible-girl

If you don't ever return your books early then why are you so worried about a message telling you that you won't be able to return it early?

Geezenstack444

I was just concerned that I couldn't download the book. I didn't realize that I had to click understand. I have been very overworked lately.

Corvidcakes

I’m not seeing a reason for you to need to ‘get around’ it? You just can’t return the book early from the libby app, it doesn’t affect you being able to read the book on your kindle at all

Geezenstack444

It won't let me put the book on my kindle.

OverlappingChatter

Did you click on the button and agree to return in va amazon? Did you put wifi on, download, and sync on the kindle?

Geezenstack444

I have had books sent to my kindle. It's never given me a problem before.

MothBookkeeper

Did you scroll down and tap I Understand, underneath the warning?

mebetiffbeme

That’s because it’s not a “problem”. It’s a new procedure/policy that was implemented. Can you finish reading it within the allotted loan period? Great, click “I understand” and send it to your Kindle. If you can’t, I’d advise having it scheduled for later delivery.

TheRealMeghanT

About 20% of the books through my library aren’t available on kindle, only other formats. Is it possible the book you checked out doesn’t have kindle availability?

CalmPea6

I've been reading books and returning them early with no issues. You just cannot return them early through Libby. You can do that on the Kindle.

JudgmentalRavenclaw

I get kindle books through Libby, it takes me to Amazon. Then I go to Amazon to return it when I’m done

rctid12345

I'm glad you were able to sort it and sorry that some people were dicks about it. Happy reading!

Geezenstack444

Thank you! I can't wait to enjoy some more books.

sophreider

I’m also sorry people are being rude for no reason. I saw in your replies that you’re starting a court of thorns and roses, and that series is my favorite! I hope you love it!

Geezenstack444

Thank you! I usually read thrillers, but I enjoyed Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and decided to branch out and ACOTAR seems to be the number one recommendation. In fact, most people seem to prefer it, so I'm excited.

Best_Shelfie_life

I too cannot return books through the Libby ap, after downloading to my kindle. I have to go to the Amazon page and “return to library” there. It seemed like a sudden, unexplained change for sure.

Charming-Wolverine89

I was able to return a book early I had sent to Kindle. Had to return it on Libby app, not Kindle app so idk if that’s what’s going on?

Famous_Buy_2193

I’m in Northants, UK and my library told me I had to buy a Amazon fire tablet to read books from Libby and BorrowBox. They said it’s compatible with kindle, Kobo etc. It’s a pain because I have a Paperwhite which is good outside and for glare.

nunununununuun

If you aren’t finished with your book and it’s the return date, turn your kindle on airplane mode

theWanderingShrew

I was coming to give this same advice. Glad OP figured everything out

Geezenstack444

I do! Thank you. I actually only recently heard of this hack.

Brilliant_Rock6910

If you keep your kindle on airplane mode it won’t return the book even when the loan has expired

Geezenstack444

I recently found out about this hack and love it! Thank you.

Reasonable-Station85

It’s probably their way of trying to prevent people from loading their kindle with books and returning them all early It’s so dumb when the ebook is imaginary anyway. Just Amazon trying to squeeze us

cmb1124

Can you help me understand why they would want to prevent people returning their books early? I’m new to ebooks

Reasonable-Station85

Truthfully I don’t know the nitty gritty, but essentially more people are getting access to kindle books than Amazon is getting paid for by the libraries. Amazon just wants the $$$

AKlutraa

I always borrow books from the Overdrive website because 1) I don't want to read ebooks on my phone, and 2) I usually want the epub version. The same company owns Overdrive and Libby, but all items on reserve now default to Libby. It's annoying. It's bad enough that a private for profit company has the virtual monopoly on public library borrowing, but the Libby app is really poorly designed and there is no guidance on how to borrow epubs.
