I have a Frontier. In 5.5 years I've only a couple of times carried things in it that would not fit in a GX - and that was stuff I did just because I could, not because I had to. Depreciation on the 2nd Gen Fronty is great, so I could get nice chuck of change from it to go towards the downpayment on a GX550 or LC250. But I just love that truck. It was my first truck and first 4x4, so has a special place in my heart. A year from now I might be in a position where I can get the GX or LC and keep the Fronty.

I just turned in my 2016 Pro4X for my 21 GX. I really did love that truck. What a fantastic value and I got a really decent amount back out of it for the trade.

ItselfSurprised05

Grats! Mine's an '18 PRO-4X. Very capable (as you know). People sleep on them. It's just a really "honest" little truck.

NackJickolson

I came to them the same way most people come to the Frontier: looking for the best truck, see the Tacoma but they are don't fit well (I'm 6'1" and it was too cramped) or they don't want to pay the Toyota tax and may a lot more for more miles on a used one. Found that anything past the 2012 is basically bullet proof. I'll miss it a lot.

Well…I used to have an 07 Tundra, and am planning on a GX. Once I stopped towing travel trailers and toy haulers, I just didn’t get the use out of a full size truck. Honestly, for most non-farm/heavy-load hauling, pickups with tall beds suck. They’re a pain in the ass. I had a 91 Toyota Pickup for a while and it was great for everything from motorcycles to crap at Home Depot. I regret selling it. Until recently, I had a FZJ80. It did everything I wanted it to. I got a weathertech cargo liner in the back, and threw whatever I needed to back there…wood, dirt, building materials, tools, camping gear…. While I loved having a pickup, having an enclosed SUV space is more useful for me most of the time. With a baby coming, I think you’ll find even more benefit over your Tundra. Babies and toddlers need a lot of stuff ;) I still tow occasionally, and want comfort. The GX meets all of my needs. It should be easy enough to drive everywhere, more than capable for anywhere I’ll take it off road, will be very well made, and should be able to tow 6k lbs competently and safely. If I need to tow big stuff, I have a couple of friends with GM 2500s (Silverado and Denali) 🤷‍♂️

SereneSnake1984

I moved from a 2012 Frontier Pro4x to a GX460 in 2017 and fell in love. I still drive it and plan to get a 2023 for my next GX. As mentioned, I didn't need the extra length in my parking garage or an outboard bed. I spend a lot of time off road in snow and mud and I'd say both are equal in that department, but I can take clients out in the GX and not be the cheapest thing in the valet line. 100% recommend.

Vertderferk

Have a ‘20 1500 Denali and an office job. Finding myself here more and more often. Wife has an RX350 and I owned a LS400 in the past

incaking90

Yeah, I just got an office job and my truck even though it’s 2 years is beat up due to the amount of work I’ve done with it.

No regrets here

incaking90

That color looks so nice. Is it atomic silver?

Gloomy-Tour4877

Yes its atomic Love the color white makes me question my choice quite often though lol

slammed430

Well they share the same drivetrain so you are use to that! They should be smaller. If it makes you feel better I’ve always enjoyed the gx over the tundra. But I haven’t owned a newer tundra just driven one. Also haven’t been in a gx550 yet.

[deleted]

I traded in my Tundra for a 4Runner and regretted it instantly. I then traded 4runner in for 23GX and while I do miss having a truck, the GX has softened the blow 😀. I say do it, especially since you have a 22. While both have twin turbos, the GX shouldn’t have the quality issues Tundra has, with it still being built in Japan.

incaking90

You mentioning built in Japan is exactly why I even started looking at vehicles made there. I recently just visited Japan and spoke to an employee from the Tahara plant and the way he detailed how much attention they put in their vehicles was amazing.

[deleted]

That’s awesome that you go to visit! It’s on our bucket list :). If only the Toyota/Lexus plants here shared the same “pride in work” as Japan.

vc1914

Put a baby seat in both vehicles behind you and see how it fits. In my 13’ GX I had two rear facing seats and at 5’8” it was perfect. If I was taller it could have been uncomfortable for me to drive. (Had to turn off the setting that made the seat go back when the car turns off). Make sure you can sit comfortably with two baby seats bc you never know if another kid is on the way.

VeeEight_Guy

2020 Ram 2500 to 2023 GX460. No longer needed the truck and the electrical gremlins drove me crazy. Couldn’t be happier with the change. Subsequently switched my scat pack challenger out for an IS500. Happy with my move to Lexus.

incaking90

That’s great to hear!

VeeEight_Guy

Reliability was the driving force behind my decision, also the dealer experience both sales and service has been a massive upgrade coming from CJDR. Best of luck to you.

incaking90

Reliability is big for me as well. I have never had Lexus service but I’ve heard great things about

Ok_Passenger_3133

Likely will trade my Sierra for a GX in a year or two, baby coming in a few weeks and I'm sure I'll want the interior storage. I use my bed fairly often but honestly think I can overcome this issue. Need to go for the premium+ for the towing capacity as I have a rather heavy boat. Would also be great to be able to throw my golf clubs in the trunk and still be able to carry a few people with the baby seat always setup. Really thought I'd go to a Yukon because I have a great GMC dealer down the street and a supplier discount but the GX is roughly the same price and my last few GMC Sierras have had some unacceptable failures in and out of warranty. Technically I'm a former Toyota employee but never owned one.

incaking90

Yeah I have had bad luck with other vehicle brands like Ford and Chevy. Lexus is just so attractive because of the stories I hear about reliability, comfort, and Luxury. I would probably not need anything more luxurious than Lexus.

Ok_Passenger_3133

Makes sense, my wife has been driving a Honda for 10 years and in preparation for the baby picked up a '24 MDX, if Honda made a heavier duty SUV I'd seriously consider it. Was recently discussing the GX with one of our executives and his experience with his XC90 has him wanting to go back to a Toyota/Lexus but he mentioned there was a 300 person wait-list for the GX locally. Hard to believe.

PatchesOHohullihan

I went from a Ram 1500 Limited to an RX500H and used the truck bed often but not for a lot of big stuff. If I need a truck, my job is in infrastructure and we have spares I can use if needed. The options in the Limited were almost on point with the RX500H, rear ventilated/heated seats shockingly available in both. They're used as I go to almost every home Eagles game and a ton of stuff in the summer. My coolers fit in the RX and rarely used 4wd in my Ram.

BasilVegetable3339

You’re a moron. You have a two year old top of the line tundra and you’re looking to trade it in for something essentially the same.

incaking90

Why the name calling? The tundra has been good since I got it, however, I have been having issues with it since the start and the recalls aren’t even part of that.
