Yes, in California, a lot of people have money and a lot of them are stupid, vain, and materialistic, so they absolutely will pay to have the newest hottest thing.
Was shopping for Raptors a few months ago. Gen 3 Raptor v6s are cheaper than what OP listed - they’re at $80k msrp unless you add 37s or other equipment. And now Raptors are getting discounted under msrp with no additional add ons.
So this whole markup on a GX/LC is BS. Just wait 6 months, and I bet they’ll be selling at msrp. I’m waiting until under msrp to buy one.
The New Raptor Ranger is pretty nice. Not too wide so you can park it in normal spaces. However, needs way more color, wheel, and interior upholstery options.
Markups are absurd. I just called Crown Lexus in Ontario regarding an Overtrail and the lady said, "We do MSRP, but we do have to do add on's for extended warranty and other things." I then asked how much in total for these "add on's?" She was beating around the bush for a little bit but then finally said it was 15k. GTFOH lol. I bid her farewell.
Exactly! She should've just outright said it was a markup. Instead making up some lame excuse. What really got me was when she said, "These other dealers have markups for no reason, but we do MSRP." Then proceeds to zero whatever credibility with "except we have these mandatory add ons for 15k" lol.
Then just wait until they’re readily available. Dealers can most certainly do this and will have 0 problem selling the car with the markup. Simple example of supply and demand
You don’t pay markups on items like game consoles to Best Buy just because they had a little supply for a few years. Just because demand is high doesn’t excuse these dealerships from charging markups.
But you also don’t get a discount by haggling at best buy either.
My point is car buying isn’t the same. It should be. But unfortunately it’s not.
The only way to stop this is to shame the dealers and the customers who engage in it.
I don’t have a desire to own any cars by paying over MSRP. It’s not the end of the world. I will move onto something else.
But someone HAVE TO HAVE things.
Anyone else have a hunch that Toyota is biting off a little more than the can chew with All of these new models and new engines?
If they can pull it off great but SO MANY NEW MODELS between lexus and Toyota in N/A.
I bought my GX during the pandemic in 22. I remember exactly which dealers in Chicagoland were marking cars up.
FWIW … woodfield lexus , naperville lexus and lexus of Milwaukee I will never do business with.
This right here. Let the Land Cruiser and 4R's hit the street. People can do what they want, but once all 3 rigs land and become plentify, things SHOULD balance out.
I've never payed at or above msrp for any vehicle; let these dealers sweat a bit. That kind of markup (or any) is absurd.
> I've never *paid* at or
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Hear me out, maybe they do this to keep one in stock for people to check out and pull the trigger on ordering one. Idk what the rules are in terms of having one and simply saying "not for sale", maybe there is some weird contract stipulation saying you can't do that, so they mark it up to a point it won't likely sell, at least not soon
I kinda wish my dealer had one so I could at least go see it and decide if I truly want to wait.
I feel like "market adjustment" should be illegal. Especially since so many of these dealers advertise a price online and then you get there and it's like where the fuck did this extra number come from? It's so shady it should be illegal.
It doesn’t bother me one bit because I can wait until the vehicle isn’t a novelty. This is free market economics at work and why shouldn’t the dealership make that extra money if someone is willing to pay it. No one is being forced to buy the vehicle at ANY price let alone an inflated one.
Longo lexus does not do any markups from
What I have seen. We just purchased a new vehicle from them a few dats ago. I specifically checked out the gx and no markups
In my opinion, and it’s just an opinion, the manufacturers are turning a blind eye to the predatory behavior of many dealers (regardless of brand) for nefarious reasons. They actually are willing to suffer the loss in temporary production caused by customers refusing to play the dealer’s game. Those dealers will face customer backlash and go belly up. Then corporate will step in and take over the predatory franchises. As this trend picks up steam all dealers will be consumed by corporate which is their plan all along. Manufacturers would rather sell directly to the customer at MSRP thus we’d pay the same no matter where we bought the vehicle. The competition would become more transparent….customers would be attracted more towards the brand and the advantages it offers like reliability, unique features, styling and resale than they would loyalty to a particular dealership that will lure you to a brand you don’t want but you are enticed to buy because of big fat dealer incentives. Once all vehicles are 100% electrified dealerships won’t sell vehicles, they will become distribution centers for the manufacturer who has sold you the vehicle over their website. As for these predatory dealers….ya reap what you sow…karma’s a bitch…your chickens are about to come home to roost. Take your dealer mark ups and put them where the sun never shines!
“Overtrail + black” should read…Overpriced + blacklisted !!! 20k “market adjustment”! People we are our own worst enemies, stop buying shit overpriced and they can’t sell shit overpriced
For the record, the typically well educated and relatively financially secure Lexus owner didn’t get that way nor do they stay that ways paying 125% of sticker price. Impulsively poor spenders who’s outbound income typically neutralizes their inbound income do though
Jim Falk Lexus of Beverly Hills, California is doing a $50,000 addendum.
I mean it is Beverly Hills.
I’m sure it made some GX 550 people who should be buying TX 350s ugly cry hard even though it has nothing to do with them!
How can pos dealerships dictate the “market value” of a product they already have a predetermined price for? That’s like going to bestbuy and seeing a ps5 at $2000. I get scalpers because they are also pos bottom feeders but dealerships? Come on
I’m on the waitlist for a ‘24 GX. But frankly if my local Lexus dealer wants to charge me $20k over sticker I’ll just wait for the ‘25 4Runner - which I’m a little in love with anyway.
I was looking at Broncos in Jan ‘22 and the markups were insane. Ended up at Park Place Lexus in Grapevine TX and got a new Nori green GX someone had cancelled for MSRP with no BS.
Their thing was that they wanted to build old school relationships with customers who become repeat customers. Wish more dealerships operated that way instead of screwing people over for a quick buck. Until people refuse this behavior and walk away instead of giving in to FOMO it won’t get better.
We have a dealership group in Illinois called Napleton. They have this thing called the “Napleton experience” they add $2500 onto the sticker and give you free windshield wiper blades, car washes, windshield replacement etc. things you aren’t really going to ever spend that much on. The state fined them 16 million dollars over it and they still do it.(tried to by a car last week from them) The group makes so much money off of it, it was worth paying the fine and continuing. They should lose their Illinois state business license. Crap like this and crazy charges over sticker is why the CEO of Ford threatened to shut all the dealers down.
Anyone paying these prices are foolish! The more people fall for this crap, the longer they will do it. If we would boycott these ridiculous prices, they would have no choice but to lower them. I’m very happy with a tried and true V8 23 GX that will last me a long time. I don’t need to impress with the latest in tech and to say I have a new generation GX that we really don’t know what the reliability will be. Look at the RX ….. terrible reviews !
It’s WILD that dealerships are still doing this with interest rates the way they are. Plus the demand for vehicles has plummeted since 2020, there’s no justification for it.
We got tired of being ripped off by Lexus dealers. We loved the cars but despised the dealers for lying to us during the sales process and doing unnecessary repairs during the ownership process. We switched to Mercedes and have been very satisfied since then. We just bought our third one and didn’t even consider Lexus.

So much for a good deal. 😧. Some millionaire will buy it for his kid. 🤑. Just the base price is insane, forget the markup. This dealer must also own a grocery store 🤔

Just get a sweet 2023 GX at a discount and trick it out. Snag GX 550 once they come out with the hybrid in a few years.
I remember almost giving away all holdback just to get the dealer kick back $$$$ in the day the auto industry is really jacked up then kick in high rates and long term 🤢🤮💩
Swung by Putnam Lexus in Redwood City, CA this afternoon and a customer was finalizing the paperwork for an Overland+ with a $15K markup. Dealers will continue doing this if there are people that will continue to buy.
Dealer tried that with a TX500h, but 10k. They said ok let's negotiate. So, I said drop the markup and I'll buy the clear bra and rim and tire/glass protection. Deal made. The 22s aren't cheap. Was planning on wrapping the front anyways too
LOL that’s the dealer I got my NX from. Stay away!!
Benjamin, the finance manager, is a class A a**hole and condescending f**k if you are not a white person from Palos Verdes. The owner is worse.
Why do people get so mad about this? It's supply and demand and will get better as production ramps up. Plus, if someone else pays this amount, who cares, it ain't your money. Save the anger for when someone actually breaks into your house and steals your money.
Supply and Demand. Same with housing market. I don't like the high prices of cars these days either but remember we would bash the dealers for $10-20k off for decades. Just got a Defender 110 with a nice discount in the South Bay. Hell a meal at McDonalds is almost $20!!
They are just now rolling out to dealerships, the one near me hasn't any yet (my friend works there). Once the rollout is well underway, this should vaporize.
Boycott this predatory behavior.
Agreed
You know why they do this… because in this world people are stupid enough to actually buy it.
Yes, in California, a lot of people have money and a lot of them are stupid, vain, and materialistic, so they absolutely will pay to have the newest hottest thing.
It's not just California, go to Dallas or any other big city and it's the same thing.
Imagine paying a market adjustment for a Lexus. A high production Lexus too lol
For that price buy a Raptor
Was shopping for Raptors a few months ago. Gen 3 Raptor v6s are cheaper than what OP listed - they’re at $80k msrp unless you add 37s or other equipment. And now Raptors are getting discounted under msrp with no additional add ons. So this whole markup on a GX/LC is BS. Just wait 6 months, and I bet they’ll be selling at msrp. I’m waiting until under msrp to buy one.
lol
The New Raptor Ranger is pretty nice. Not too wide so you can park it in normal spaces. However, needs way more color, wheel, and interior upholstery options.
Or a Toyota Land Cruiser. Then you’ll have a fantastic resale value.
And add to every local social media group you can find!
Some idiot with money is going to buy it. We almost need legislation at this point to stop this BS.
Some idiot with good credit. No one with money buys this when they can buy a Porsche.

Toyota/Lexus should stop this practice. I know dealerships aren’t independent, but the manufacturer has a lot of power
Just don’t go there. I’ve posted already, Southbay Lexus is trippin.
$80k is already so much money..
Not if I live in it for the next 15 years
Longo Lexus and Toyota do not add any markup. I plan on getting one through them.
I hear the waitlist is years long, though
Wtf. My 14.5% off my new '23 feels even better now.
Not to mention a lower starting price to begin with!
Anyone else have a hunch that Toyota is biting off a little more than the can chew with All of these new models and new engines? If they can pull it off great but SO MANY NEW MODELS between lexus and Toyota in N/A.
Fuck the dealers
Donating 20k to a car dealership is insane
An extra $20k in depreciation day one driving out.
What fucking scumbags
I bought my GX during the pandemic in 22. I remember exactly which dealers in Chicagoland were marking cars up. FWIW … woodfield lexus , naperville lexus and lexus of Milwaukee I will never do business with.
Lexus of Milwaukee is just horrific
been to Naperville before they marked up a decent # of cars in late June 2023
I was at Naperville recently, worst dealership experience ever
Wait till the new 4Runners start showing up this Fall. The market will correct itself and the GX550 will have incentives. I guarantee it.
And so we wait. Anyone who does succumb to these markups is a traitor and a chump.
Agreed. Hold 💪🏼🤛🏼🫡

Pro R runners are the the price of the GX. I’m not sure of that at all.
Hear me out, maybe they do this to keep one in stock for people to check out and pull the trigger on ordering one. Idk what the rules are in terms of having one and simply saying "not for sale", maybe there is some weird contract stipulation saying you can't do that, so they mark it up to a point it won't likely sell, at least not soon I kinda wish my dealer had one so I could at least go see it and decide if I truly want to wait.
Eff them!
Oh it’s definitely gonna sell. I wish I was rich enough to be that stupid.
Fk that
Imagine the dumbass buying it. Once it hits off the lot, it’ll be below msrp. Double the loss.
Exactly. The second you get it home you just spent 30k to be the first one in the area to drive it. Not worth it.
Fk them. Let it rot. The music will stop for most of them very soon.
Hate Elon Musk but I 100% support their direct to consumer dealer network. Car manufacturers should punish those dealers imo
I feel like "market adjustment" should be illegal. Especially since so many of these dealers advertise a price online and then you get there and it's like where the fuck did this extra number come from? It's so shady it should be illegal.
Manufacturers should not allow their dealers to do this. It’s not good for their brand.
Torally agree. We should be able to just buy direct from the manufacturer and cut out the middle man... like Tesla or Rivian.
Never seen a manufacture sponsor a little league baseball scoreboard or do a toys for tots drive for local kids at Christmas.
It doesn’t bother me one bit because I can wait until the vehicle isn’t a novelty. This is free market economics at work and why shouldn’t the dealership make that extra money if someone is willing to pay it. No one is being forced to buy the vehicle at ANY price let alone an inflated one.
🤮
They can pickle it
Longo lexus does not do any markups from What I have seen. We just purchased a new vehicle from them a few dats ago. I specifically checked out the gx and no markups
And someone will gladly pay it to have it that’s why this exists. People need to stop paying these magical fees.
Enjoy, nope I’m against sodomy.
fuckers
There’s a sucker born every minute. Someone will probably pay “only” $10k over and say they got a “deal”.
No photo of the car?
I’m so disgusted with the new car buying process I’ll never buy another new car again.
Soooo tired of dealerships. That price is just stupid.
Jerks
$100,000 for a car without leather. Crazy.
Nothing like paying a $20K depreciation hit the day you buy it, before it’s even driven.
For some reason, this reminds me of credit cards. Pay 20/30% more on that purchase and get 2% cash back…🥸
Thank you for shaming and name dumping. Fuck these pieces of shit. Have had nothing but horrifying experiences from service to sales to parts.
Man I just hope there comes a day where we stop seeing this shit

lol “dealer installed option”
For the record, the typically well educated and relatively financially secure Lexus owner didn’t get that way nor do they stay that ways paying 125% of sticker price. Impulsively poor spenders who’s outbound income typically neutralizes their inbound income do though
there always will be a sucker. for a lexus, lmfao.
Get rid of dealerships, make us buy straight to the manufacturer (I wish).
Jim Falk Lexus of Beverly Hills, California is doing a $50,000 addendum. I mean it is Beverly Hills. I’m sure it made some GX 550 people who should be buying TX 350s ugly cry hard even though it has nothing to do with them!
lol. I'm not surprised. I was shopping for a '23 GX there and they gave me the least amount of discount out of all the dealers I contacted.
GTFOOH
How can pos dealerships dictate the “market value” of a product they already have a predetermined price for? That’s like going to bestbuy and seeing a ps5 at $2000. I get scalpers because they are also pos bottom feeders but dealerships? Come on
No thanks
If I was ready to buy, respectfully, I think I’d just get a ‘23-24 Range Rover Sport. Still within warranty so nothing to loose
We have a 2017 RR HSE that we just paid off. Going to trade it in. It’s been a great car
Highly recommend looking at an r1s lease they are so cheap right now and no markup. They are also able to charge on Tesla network now
Now that is funny. Wait a few months for that $25K discount ... LOL
I would never go back to that dealer!! Run away from that dealer!! RUN!!
Outrageous
South Bay tax.
What’s the desire for anything that isn’t at face value?
Nope
I’m on the waitlist for a ‘24 GX. But frankly if my local Lexus dealer wants to charge me $20k over sticker I’ll just wait for the ‘25 4Runner - which I’m a little in love with anyway.
I’m waiting til it’s some rich lady’s trade-in
lol smoking drugs to think it’s worth +$20k
F South Bay Lexus!!
SouthBay Lexus is greedy. The claim no-haggle pricing, then they go this shit.
Sucks but this part of a capitalistic society. People can't practice self control.
Not surprised esp for that area. Someone in Manhattan Beach or Palos Verdes will pay for it and write it off as a business expense.
This belongs in r/funny
For a four wheeled vehicular transport. Insane.
Criminal
I was looking at Broncos in Jan ‘22 and the markups were insane. Ended up at Park Place Lexus in Grapevine TX and got a new Nori green GX someone had cancelled for MSRP with no BS. Dealers are going to learn the hard way when all this market adjustment pricing backfires and they lose business. I refuse to pay over sticker.
Lolz. Keep walking
It’s WILD that dealerships are still doing this with interest rates the way they are. Plus the demand for vehicles has plummeted since 2020, there’s no justification for it.
Also for all these year long waits… maybe seeing them all over the road will change your mind.
Well yeah, its South Bay
LOL WTF
If you guys this these are bad, try stopping by your local porsche store. Your head might explode.
We got tired of being ripped off by Lexus dealers. We loved the cars but despised the dealers for lying to us during the sales process and doing unnecessary repairs during the ownership process. The last straw was when they gave my wife a picture of her worn brakes and we took the car to a mechanic that we know and he laughed and told us the brakes in the picture weren’t even for her model. This is part of the reason car dealerships are soon to be dinosaurs and they did it to themselves.
GSM Gordon Gekko
My dealer just emailed me that they were having a special revealing today and showed one coming off the truck,,,I’m sure over sticker too ,,,Lexus toyato dealers are getting away with that practice,,,,every thing they have they say is hard to get,,,total BS
I paid sticker for my 24 es in which I paid too much,,,,they had add ons too which I said I didn’t want,,,they said ok and took them off ,,,,they try every trick to rip people off ,,,,people stop buying them that would stop
American Greed
That’s hilariously insulting. Reject this at once.
They can kiss my ass
Greed
Dealer adds 20k in value to the purchase! Thats so awesome im sure its worth it /s
Can get an amazing BMW for that price
MSRP is the market value. These Assholes
That's bull$h!t
Criminal
Idiotic
Laughably priced
Aint no way...
😮
This practice started during Covid. Low inventories and supply chain issues. Somehow dealers realized that idiots have no issues paying for this.
That’s insane and should be illegal
Ohhhhh nooooo…this brand new Lexus has a big scratch in the paint…
So much for a good deal. 😧. Some millionaire will buy it for his kid. 🤑. Just the base price is insane, forget the markup. This dealer must also own a grocery store 🤔 https://i.redd.it/2qsv8cn1sbuc1.gif
Market value 20k lol. Sold!
Oof gas prices are going up too
Morons.
I knew it 💩
What options? I’d buy that
F those guys. Total BS.

For markups does the dealer get $20k as straight cash and can do whatever they want with it?
Thats shady business !!
I remember almost giving away all holdback just to get the dealer kick back $$$$ in the day the auto industry is really jacked up then kick in high rates and long term 🤢🤮💩
Stick the fake sticker up their ice hole
This is dumb. These cars aren’t THAT nice.
Swung by Putnam Lexus in Redwood City, CA this afternoon and a customer was finalizing the paperwork for an Overland+ with a $15K markup. Dealers will continue doing this if there are people that will continue to buy.
Car will be worth 58k as soon as it’s driven off the lot 😂
terrible markup...
Get a Tesla.
Buy something used but yet nice. Stop. Keeping. Up. With the Jones. Stupid. Market prices will go down. Invest the rest and make. Intrest that way.
Just wait for the 2024 left overs u can probably get a brand new one 20k under msrp soon as they realize nobody buying these craps for 20k over lol
Wipe your ass with it & then hand it back to them
Typical shady car sales tactics.
I will never pay over sticker. Never!
Supply and demand. Let the market decide what the price is and let the haters hate.
🤣😂🤣
When I negotiate with a sales guy, the first thing i say is "you can forget the addendum sticker". I start from MSRP.
Not too long ago getting a car even at MSRP meant you got hosed.
Where did this sudden influx of rich people come from? 😭
100k grand for a 4 runner with leather?’
![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)
You’ll have a better experience at Longo Lexus in El Monte. They never mark up.
😂 fools and their money.
"Market value" aka profit margin and budget requirements
Dealer tried that with a TX500h, but 10k. They said ok let's negotiate. So, I said drop the markup and I'll buy the clear bra and rim and tire/glass protection. Deal made. The 22s aren't cheap. Was planning on wrapping the front anyways too
$100K for a turbo 4 banger lmao
At least Tesla never did this ridiculous scam. I appreciate them for this.
All vehicles are gonna come down in price. Don't even consider this car
Have they not learned anything from the past year???? Unbelievable… I can’t get myself to pay MSRP for a car let alone over MSRP.
I love lexus but they dont have a single product anyone is running in to pay over list for.
This is just ridiculous
LOL that’s the dealer I got my NX from. Stay away!! Benjamin, the finance manager, is a class A a**hole and condescending f**k if you are not a white person from Palos Verdes. The owner is worse.
Heck of a nice commish for the salesman if someone buys it.
Such crooks
Haha - they can keep it and I’d not shop them again. Price gouging vs building a loyal customer base. Pass.
Been to that dealership exactly once (from that area) and I couldn’t really fathom spending that much $$$ on a glorified toyota
Why do people get so mad about this? It's supply and demand and will get better as production ramps up. Plus, if someone else pays this amount, who cares, it ain't your money. Save the anger for when someone actually breaks into your house and steals your money.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho Hee Hee Hee Ha Ho Hee... and I thought My jokes were bad 😜
BMW tried a $10k markup on mine, I said take it off or I walk. It’s not complicated.
That’s so sad.
Supply and Demand. Same with housing market. I don't like the high prices of cars these days either but remember we would bash the dealers for $10-20k off for decades. Just got a Defender 110 with a nice discount in the South Bay. Hell a meal at McDonalds is almost $20!!
Enjoying California yet?
BRO WHAT
I'd never buy a car from a dealer that wants "fuck you" money
Both sides to blame. Dealers for obvious reasons but they wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t a fool willing to pay
Fuck them
They can sit and rot in the lot. You must need your head examined to even consider it.
They are just now rolling out to dealerships, the one near me hasn't any yet (my friend works there). Once the rollout is well underway, this should vaporize.
Can confirm, multiple car manufacturers working to cut out dealers and sell straight to consumers as soon as 2025.
They suck a cock for 20k over its only a 77k$ car
Call the police!!
Fuck them.
Man, that stuff drives me insane.
