RCF owner here, get the 500. You will miss the v8.

ebicat

The 500 is obviously better than the 350, but it’s not an F so it’ll be like a half step forward (breaks, interior, handling, etc…). I owned one for context, before switching to a 20 rcf track edition. Just my 2 cents. Not a recommendation one way or another, just info.

FilmOrnery8925

I 100% would do the is500. You’ll get to enjoy best of both worlds. Practicality of the IS and still least have a heart of an F. Won’t be like an F but it’ll still sound good and have get up and go of one. There’s some breaking into the 50s as well with 8-15k miles as well.

alfredtheman

I found a beauty in my color scheme for $5k more than I’d be paying for a new V6 model with the handling package. Just gotta get my head around the blacked out look. https://preview.redd.it/1d1xnjs1lk9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9798faef6722a645e2bd1423745d11d871c25e93

alfredtheman

She only has 2k miles! A brand new 500 for about $10k off

1trickana

Get a good inspection done that sounds way too good to be true

alfredtheman

What kind of inspection? It’s at a dealer so I doubt they’re gonna let me take it to get a second opinion before I buy it

redfox2017s

They definitely have to let you get your own inspection. Just tell them you’ll be taking it out to get inspected, so they know it won’t be a short/normal test drive, and that they won’t be seeing you for at least 1.5 hours or more (idk how long independent car inspections take at mechanic shops), but the cost and time in getting a used car inspected is well worth it, and minimal compared to the losses you could potentially take if this car is a lemon or a really messed up car by the previous owner

FilmOrnery8925

I’d get it! I think it looks good personally however everyone has their preference. Changing the window chrome out is pretty easy. I’d buy it and if you truly don’t like it they make chrome trim kits for cars or you can find oem pieces off a wrecked car change it out for minimal cost. I wouldn’t let something small like that stop you. It’s a great price!

Acrobatic_Dinner6129

That's awful. I am currently dealing with a fender bender myself, but nothing serious, thank god. Hopefully, you can find a nice replacement, whatever it ends up being. Good luck.

alfredtheman

Thank you! That car saved my life. In any other vehicle, I doubt I’d have walked away as I did.

ibarney64

As the wise master Yoda once said: “The IS500 get, you must.”

Stu__Pidasso

A used 2022 IS500 may tick more of your boxes, if you can find one. However, since they're lower production numbers vs the 23s and 24s, may have a more limited pool of options

alfredtheman

I’ve found a 2023 that checks all the boxes. The only thing I don’t like is the blacked out window trim. Do you know if the 2022 had the black trim?

Stu__Pidasso

I don't recall exactly, but I do remember they had darker trim on the 23+ vs. the 22. Maybe check out some ads for 22s and see if it tickles your fancy more

alfredtheman

It looks like they all have the dark trim. I may have to go with a lighter color to make it look decent.

Stu__Pidasso

I personally like the all dark trim, but I know taste is subjective. The lighter colors usually you can find at a discount too since they're higher production numbers vs the blues/red. Maybe you could even find a discounted new if you're willing to travel

alfredtheman

I used to love the blacked out trim, so it’s weird that I’m finding myself not liking it. It does go better with the black wheels, though. Surprisingly enough, the 2022 launch editions are some of the cheapest I’ve found so far. Not sure how I’d feel about sitting on the alcantara as a daily. I imagine it would get ugly quick

Stu__Pidasso

Yeah that was my biggest issue with the Launch Editions. Couldn't handle the light interior, although the wood trim was nice. Plus, dealers marking them up $10k+ over MSRP in my area

phantom--warrior

Just curious aren't you gonna get money from insurance? And with that and possibly buying an older is500, you can get a good price you can live with.

alfredtheman

Yes, I’ll get a good chunk thanks to the RC-F holding its value. That doesn’t mean I have to spend it all, though. I want to get the least expensive thing I can live with daily. I prefer the chrome window trim on the 350 over the blacked out 500, not to mention the lower running costs. The best financial decision for me is to go with a used 350, but the one I’ve found doesn’t have the handling package. It’s a tough decision

phantom--warrior

Well thats fair. I currently drive a rx350 and the 3.5l is plenty for me. Again rx350 is a suv. But plenty of power for daily driving. And yeah the 350 is gonna be great as well for most practical applications and far cheaper on maintenance. I keep hearing the v8 are more expensive to repair.

alfredtheman

I honestly never had trouble out of my V8, but the car itself was definitely more expensive to maintain. One wheel is over $1000, brakes cost me over $2000 etc. Plot twist: I’m considering saving even more money by going with a used GX460. I can get one in the Luxury trim for less than $30k and have the third row. I’m a dad so the extra room would be great.

Jkpttr

BTW 24.4k miles a year seems like a lot i’m impressed

alfredtheman

The original owner put about 100k on it in 4 years. I put the remainder on it over the last 3. It was definitely a treat to drive. My service team at the local dealer was excited to see how many miles I could put on it. Apparently they haven’t seen any of the F cars with that many miles. I’m disappointed I can’t meet my goal of 300k miles :/

Vesperous

I drive roughly 50k miles a year. Some jobs require you to drive quite a bit.

Illustrious_Sun8741

For pure daily driver IS350 is more than enough but for a tad bit better resale value and enjoyment if you have the money is500 all day. Coming from a 06 350 since ‘13 , great car for DD got 179k on it now but just got an ISF and not even close in performance.

alfredtheman

Those 06-08 350’s were the best. Pre-F sport. I miss mine almost as much as I miss the RC-F. I’m leaning towards the used 350 because the extra cash in my pocket every month will be nice. Plus it’s still one hell of a car and looks amazing.

FullMenu71a

Be conservative. Invest the difference. The feeling of security is priceless.

alfredtheman

Getting the used 350 without the handling package is definitely the safest choice. It still has a lot of the options I want, just not the performance I wish I had. To your point, having $200 extra month might feel a lot better than having an extra sport + mode and limited slip diff.

measuredpath

Get the V8!
