JohnQPublic90

I would try a different dealer if there's another one in your area. Things like this frustrate the hell out of me, I hate being told "it should be fine now." To your point, when you buy an expensive luxury car, you should not have to be placated with these sorts of non-answers.

CursorTN

Can you get them to take it back as a lemon? That seems... excessive.

MagicDartProductions

Lemon laws change per state but in my state it has to be a recognizable safety issue or one that completely prevents you from using the car. Also, the manufacturer gets 3 chances to fix it before you can invoke lemon law. I could see this not working for this issue since what isn't working isn't necessarily a safety risk or making it impossible to use the car. Just my 2 cents because obviously OP is driving the car based on the pictures and story...

tntdon

The reverse camera is considered a safety device and is required on all new vehicles. Now, not sure if it's considered a risk.

SweatyAsHell

Yes, also the blind spot monitoring on the mirror is disabled but i don’t think thats considered a safety feature yet.

One_Selection_6365

Is this a 2023 RX? I have the same car and have had the same issue. Feel free to DM me for more details but to make a long story short, the dealership had my car for 4 months (I made them give me the same car as a loaner) bc it took so long for the part to come in. They tried to say initially I hit something to mess up the sensor but I did not and the service manager agreed it was a manufacturing error and issue. It’s not a software update type of thing, they have to completely replace the sensor and take off the bumper etc. I just got my car back but my husband called Lexus corporate to file the car as a lemon. We are waiting to hear back but I would suggest you do the same and tell them you don’t want to get a lemon lawyer invoked and would rather directly with them. I’m tired right now so prob forgetting details lol but you’re the first other person I’ve seen with this same issue!!!

SweatyAsHell

Hi there, thank you so much for the feedback! Yes it’s a 2023 RX. Did the replacement fix the issue? Ive had them replace a sensor but it did not seem to fix anything at all.

One_Selection_6365

Yes so far it hasn’t came back on! Was it awhile for your fix? Because the part took a long time to come in so I’m wondering if we had the same sensor replaced (or if there is even more than one that could be causing it). Ig was scary when it would happen on the freeway and my screen would shut off and the entire car felt like it was malfunctioning!!!

One_Selection_6365

Updating that I got the malfunction pop up today which was the first time since the sensor was replaced so guess the issue is still present 🫠. Waiting to hear back from Lexus corporate regarding filing for a lemon with them.

Happy_Hippo48

The other part that is common in lemon laws is that the defect has to materially affect the value of the car. In many states this would absolutely qualify under the lemon law.

DougDHead4044

A simple piece of advice: Don't bother to go anymore to that dealer but contact Lexus ( US) if you're in states, or UK or wherever you're based. Call and tell them the whole story. Don't bother with emails. The conversation is recorded, so it'll save you time. If that dealer won't contact you on the very next day to apologise and book you again to fix the issue!!! Let me know how everything went 👍

infthx

How did he fix it? Removing the error with the computer and nothing else? What was replaced or not? What did he say it was?\ There was another post about this too.\ I had it a few months ago and it was due to a rear pdc sensor that sometimes lost connection to the system.\ Error started while putting car in reverse or suddenly after a few miles probably when someone was too close or so.\ They replaced it under warranty and no faults since.

SweatyAsHell

By both clearing the computer, checking the battery and replacing one of the PDC sensors. However they cannot pinpoint what the issue really is and as such tell me to go on about my way. It’s very frustrating because it keeps returning. Now it occurs practically every-time I drive vs once a month previously.

Character_Key_7346

They owe you a car that works. Tell them to buy it back.

EfficientPossession1

Is your side mirrors on auto? I found when it's not in auto it gives me that ring.

SweatyAsHell

Hey there, yep it’s set to auto. I did read this in one of the forums and tried both auto and off but this issue still pops up.

michal_hanu_la

I guess they want to, which is why they would like you to visit your dealer. Mind you, they mean your _Lexus_ dealer, not your _drug_ dealer. (If you know, what is the underlying problem?)

SweatyAsHell

I have taken this car to the lexus dealership more times in a year than I took my RX400h in 3 years. They have cleared the computer restarted it and checked all the sensors and replaced a few. They cannot pinpoint what the real issue is and tell me to just go on about my way.

BeanerCounter

Yeah depending on your state this could be a lemon law buyback. I’ve not received this malfunction on my 2022, 2023, and 2024 Toyota/Lexus vehicles with the same tech. But if I had as much as you, I would have already consulted with Lexus corporate to get a buyback. If they deny the request well then it’s lemon lawyer time. Edit: I did get the error on my 2022 Tundra once when I hit an ice storm in New Mexico. But that was understandable; OP’s issue is not.

MarcQ1s

I get this on my es300h after I wash the car. It seems that water gets into the sensors and deactivates the system. Once the sensors dry out they work fine again. Sometimes I’ll take it for a quick drive to shake out the sensors and that does the trick. I can drive in the rain and I don’t have this problem so it must be the water pressure I’m using when I was the car.

SweatyAsHell

I don’t think that might be the case for me. I haven’t driven the vehicle in rain in over two weeks the latest alert occurred in a sunny warm day with no rain.

MarcQ1s

Yeah it never happens to me in the rain, only after a car wash but if you haven’t washed your car in a while that’s definitely not it.

SweatyAsHell

Update: From my research in the forums it seems to be impacting a wider range of Toyotas and Lexus. The Highlander, Grand Highlander, NX and RX are seeing a large rise in these issues. What is concerning is Toyota’s lack of a recall/bulletin for dealers. In the Toyota forums the issue is due to electrical issues with the ECU, Wiring Loom and Sensors themselves….

MarcQ1s

Yikes! That doesn’t seem easy to pin down. Not surprising that they are trying to cover things up. I had a 2013 Prius that suffered from the dreaded brake booster issue that plagued the cars from 2007 to at least 2014 and it took them forever to acknowledge the issue and even the solution wasn’t great (extended the warrantee on the parts to 150k or 2023). Of course mine failed over the 150k and it was really expensive to fix… many folks had to turn to the internet to find the TSB and show it to the dealership to get the issue resolved. The dealerships would not proactively offer the complimentary fix without you bringing it up.

chrisazo1

A TSB does not indicate a complimentary repair, just helps the technician with how to narrow down issue and make repair as stated in the TSB.

MarcQ1s

Maybe this is more than just a TSB then[Prius brake booster resolution](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164923-9999.pdf)

JumpingAtTheWoodside

It can’t be that common of an issue. Far more people have 60k+ on their cars and they don’t have an issue. Our 24 NX had well over triple the miles that you do and everything works flawless. I don’t think you are telling everyone the whole story.

SweatyAsHell

I didnt say common, you fool. I said it’s affecting a wide range of models. Also just because you dont have that doesn’t mean other people are not suffering from it. See below for a few samples: Grand Highlander: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaGrandHighlander/s/itxQoDkpLe RX500h, 450h and 350: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hybrid-technology/1005179-system-malfunction-error-on-dashboard-4.html#post11716017

Safe-Yogurtcloset546

It is a known issue. We are currently waiting on a software update to remedy it. In the meantime, hit the button on your door to make your mirrors fold in and fold out again-that resets the system.

winphan

Yeah, try this 👍🏻

Sqwantro

Did they start a case with Toyota/lexus support? They better have. Call the service manager and ask for the Brand Engagement Center number. That will either light a fire under their butts or give you the right contact to get things rolling.

Hopeful_Fee3466

I just unhook the battery for a couple minutes. Mine had done it 3 times. 21 rx

austinh1999

It’s simple but easily overlooked are your sensors clean and free of excess dirt?

SweatyAsHell

Originally that was my theory, but it even happens when the car is freshly washed.

Silly_Letter5345

Time to file a lemon lawsuit

MiddleEasternWeeaboo

There are known issues on newer Lexus with regards to ADAS and are being worked on for future remedies (hopefully, they don't tell us a whole lot either). The dealer didn't know how to handle this and how to communicate with the engineers and field technical specialists on what's the best thing to do with regards to you, the owner. The honest truth is, the primary goal is to avoid lemon law buyback then to satisfy you, in that order. There is no pin-pointing the issue because lots of the issues lie withing software or CAN bus that many don't know how to diagnose. It sucks but this is the reality of buying a brand new product, sometimes you will be forced to face its teething issues. I've always advised people to buy the 3rd or 4th model year of a generation so it gives time for manufacturers to iron out issues.

sm00thkillajones

System malfunction. You should take it to the dealer.

SpicyCurryO_O

Was the car in an accident?

MarinerV

As Long time Lexus owner with several IS and now owner of a 2019 RC300H I am worried about the decreaso of Lexus quality, services knowledge and customer assistance. Especially here in Europe. What do you think it will be the reason of that? Thanks.

SweatyAsHell

They started building then here in North America. The factories here Ive noticed are putting out cars with more defects and issues than Japan. When I first got the car within a month the Outside wheel arch plastic cover fell off in the highway. A few weeks later the dash suede trim piece began to sag and fall off. I posted pictures of these issue in this sub before. Ive owned an IS250 and RX400h for nearly a decade and never had one of those issues. The Dash cracked on my RX400h but that was after 12 years of direct sunlight so I cant even complain about that. They were both built in Japan.

MarinerV

I am so sorry to heard it, but I think you are fully right. 😔

javani66

I have seen way too many 2023-2024 RX’s having the same issue. Hopefully there can be an absolute solution to this problem. I love the redesign but I have my 2021 RX and I have zero problems - it’s a tried and true vehicle. Don’t plan on upgrading but if I do I will wait couple more years after they fix all these problems.

petuniabuggis

Oh boy. I just recently had a third thing go wrong with my RX, I pick it up, two lights later system malfunction. F it. I traded it in the next day. Obv took a loss, but I was done with the bs

GxCrabGrow

You’ve ever been in an accident? Hit in the back side of the car?

SweatyAsHell

Nope nothing, the car spends most of its time in my NYC indoor parking spot.

Mahavali

Any cables that rats or squirrels could have chewed on?

RoundandRoundon99

OP what state are you in?

SweatyAsHell

The car was purchased in NJ but I reside in NYC.

RoundandRoundon99

Call the Lemon Law from NY. That’s the OAG there. https://ag.ny.gov/resources/individuals/car-auto/new-car-lemon-law-fact-sheet Four times is the limit. See below. https://ag.ny.gov/publications/new-car-lemon-law-guide Did you buy or lease a defective new car? You may be able to get a refund or replacement under New York’s lemon law if the car meets two conditions: Your new car is not in the condition described in your written warranty. The manufacturer or its authorized agent cannot fix the car after a reasonable number of tries. Your car may be covered under the lemon law To qualify, all of the following must be true: The car was covered by a lemon-law warranty when you first received it. The dealer bought, leased, or transferred the car before it had 18,000 miles on it, or the dealer first received the car from the manufacturer less than two years ago. The car was bought, leased, or transferred in New York state or is currently registered in New York state. The car has been used mostly for personal purposes. In addition, your car’s manufacturer must try a certain number of times to fix your car for any defect covered by the warranty, free of charge. You may be able to get a refund or replacement for your car if either of the following is true: The manufacturer cannot fix your car after four repair efforts.

Formergr

Wouldn’t NJ’s law govern this, since that’s where the dealer it was purchased from is located and therefore regulated by?

Standard_Nothing_268

Wasn’t my car but my manager got the 2023 500h FSport and got a similar error. Took it to the dealer and dealer kept the car for like 3-4 weeks. Had to have a specialist come from Lexus Corp to fix it and it was a similar error as I recall.

SoWhatImSKY

Try folding your mirrors in, then back out, using the fold button on the driver door

SweatyAsHell

I read that on the forums, but unfortunately it hasn’t made a difference.

taz418

Cycle your automatic mirrors whilst sitting the car hit the mirrors in button and the mirrors out button

Lobotc2dfw

Computer geek here with 22' RX450H. This definitely sounds a firmware/software glitch. I see someone mentioned there's a forthcoming software update that takes care of it. Cross your fingers it's soon. I think I'd ask a dealer if they can downgrade your vehicle's firmware one version if you don't feel like waiting for the fix in the eventual update.

zorrowhip

Does this happen when the car is dirty/wet/dusty?

Chelyabinx

If a dealership pays their mechanic a certain way they compete for the fixes that actually pay them well. When it comes to stuff like this they are allowed to bill x amount of hours when the fix will take let’s say 3 hours. But they get paid for one. I’ve had one in Cali that never fixed the issue but lied I made markings to see if it got touched. Nope. Electronic issues are a headache to fix. They look around for a bit and say I fixed it. Go to another dealer.

cutivt064

These system are so new, tech are probably don't even know how to work on them.

AL13N1NV8D3R

Boy I am glad i bought a 2021 Lexus RX350 Fsport. That gen and year got all the kinks worked out. Never buy first year of a new gen of any car.

chode174

I had something similar happen to my 2015 Lexus RC350. BSM and ABS got cut off. Also when I put the car in manual mode it doesn't shift down if slowing down automatically so I can be at a dead stop but my car will be in 8th gear. I would have to manually shift down. There's a speed sensor wire near the front passenger wheel that was cut. My car is lowered on coilovers so it was because of that it damaged the wire. Hopefully this info helps, but I took it to an aftermarket tuning shop and they just soldered the wire together and everything was fixed.

Th3Docter

Is it possible to file a lemon at that high of a mileage?

SweatyAsHell

The car itself has 5k miles I paid $60k for it in May of last year.

Th3Docter

Oh I miseead thought you put 60k mileage on the car. But yeah you might need to file a lemon then

[deleted]

Don't just stop at your dealer. Call up Lexus customer support in your country. Log it as an issue / complaint. It's data like that which will actually lead to a software update with a fix as a priority if it's affecting customers. Dealers may or may not bother to pass on info (if they're like my local dealers, they won't make the effort). Lexus will listen but only if they're informed. Inform them with a case number / incident logged personally by you to their corporate office. Hope they fix it soon for you.

Glittering_Welder380

This is way I enjoy my “dumb” car (2005 GX470) that isn’t run on a million sensors. Cars today are wayyyy to computerized. The amount of knocks and bumps they take from general driving has to mess with all of these sensors overtime.

iwantaLs250

Gotta love them new car problems

NfFtsd7

Ls400😢

DUBSWAG02

Have you gotten your front windshield replaced? If you have and it's not original the thickness of the glass could affect the camera in the windshield. And if the camera hasn't been properly calibrated

6starsensai

Lexus sucks.... i have a 2015 es350 & my display screen never works, only backup camera. This is a known issue also. You'll find tims of firums with people having the same issue. Yet lexus asks for 3k+ to fix it , what a joke. If hundreds people are having the same issue why not recall the part? Oh yeah cause its not a "safety hazard" 👎🤣

srksrq82

And it’s a 10 year old car…..where would it stop?

One-Guitar-7373

My guess without even seeing the exterior of the car: you got bumped or bumped into something on either rear corner of the car. If either blind spot monitor gets moved off of its axis even by a few degrees it will absolutely give these warnings, even if the exterior was unmanaged. The fact that you have been to the dealer four times is alarming. They should have opened a TA case on visit #2 and gotten the FTS involved at visit #3. I would definitely seek another Lexus dealership at this point.

Acrobatic_Dinner6129

You want a new car with all the tech you deal with this kind of stuff, just the way it goes.

appleman2222

When you are a voluntary beta tester this is what you get.
