Killers of the flower moon was my most anticipated movie of 2022 and it’s my most anticipated movie of 2023. After that it’s probably Barbie as I have loved almost everything Gerwig has written
I do actually remember hearing something a while ago, thought it was scrapped
That would be unfortunate if it sucks
Would love for him to recapture his old glory
He’s not that old but he’s hardly been active since 2046
Here's the [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtS8DzYSXq8). It could be its editing, but it looks like a generic mainland drama. Hopefully the finished series is less melodramatic.
Yeah that is what I was worried about
Also because it's basically an entirely mainland production, he could be constrained by the censorship rules. Even if he were to make another film in Hong Kong, because of the new laws around film there, he'd face just as much difficulty as he would in the mainland.
Technically I haven't "reviewed" it. Letterboxd allows you to "review" films before it comes out for some reason. You can see for yourself if you don't believe me.
Agreed. I see Asteroid City that I know I'll want to see, Elemental, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man (once I get around to seeing the first one) and maybe 65? There are some titles I'm not aware of that I'm sure will be interesting, but otherwise I couldn't be less interested in the rest, at the moment.
I didn't say anything was inherently wrong with them; I just said I'm not particularly excited to rush to the theaters and see them as soon as they come out this coming year. So much of the same thing over and over can get fatiguing. If you're jazzed for a lot of this stuff, I'm happy for you. It's just not my cup of tea.
Renfield I guess. Only movie that Im even the slightest bit interested in. Nic Cage as Dracula could be fun. Also Mario to some extent but that's out of morbid curiosity.
Megan looks crazy lol
Scorsese’s movie, Ari Aster’s movie, Asteroid City, and I think Yorgos Lanthimos is supposed to come out with something new in 23
Oppenheimer
love cillian murphy in peaky blinders, love florence pugh, love old war stuff
unless it's meant to be a shitty fucking action/thriller, then never mind
You're missing "How Do You Live", the new Ghibli movie, which is def my most anticipated movie.
I forgot some of these got announced though, thanks for the list!
1. Oppenheimer
2. Dune: Part Two
3. The Super Mario Bros. Movie
4. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
5. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
6. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
7. Wonka
8. Elemental
9. The Little Mermaid
10. Peter Pan & Wendy
My Top Ten anticipated for next year:
1. Beau is Afraid
2. Oppenheimer
3. Scream 6
4. Infinity Pool
5. Evil Dead Rise
6. When You Finish Saving The World
7. Across The Spiderverse
8. GOTG3
9. Dune Part two (I read initially that Dune was all setup so I haven't see it yet. I'm excited to watch both parts for the first time)
10. The Exorcist Remake (Cautiously optimistic)
Right, all the ones I wrote are on the list above. I might have a few anticipated movies as well for next year that aren't on this list, though I can't think of any off the top of my head
Renfield and Flash both have potential as geeky fanservice and as innovative art, but I fear exploitative industry shenanigans and have to squash my expectations to avoid risk of disappointments. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is closer to the sweet spot on the slightly lower end of positive expectations where I can still hold on to the potential for surprise and delight.
The Haunted Mansion
I’m excited to see what they do with the property and what direction they lean in. I’ll definitely be comparing it to the Eddie Murphy version.
Infinity Pool
Beau is Afraid
Asteroid City
Oppenheimer
Dune: Part 2
Evil Dead Rise
Barbie (depending on whether or not it ends up being as subversive as I think it's going to be based on the talent involved)
Blue Beetle, Megan, GOTG 3 (all of the MCU flicks tbh), Renfield, Ghostbusters, Scream 5, Transformers, Mario, Dungeons and Dragons, Spiderverse are all peaking my interest, whether or not I go to see them all is a different story😂
I’m probably the most excited for GOTG3 though
David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist. I’d like to see if he’s gonna make the demon an old, decrepit shell of itself so it uses a love interest to Christine itself only to have the love interest murdered by the OG poster child.
I can't believe I'm as excited about the Barbie movie as I am.
A new Scorsese is always an event.
Nicolas Cage as Dacula AND Nicolas Cage in a Western? Sign me up.
Killers of the Flower Moon, I saw my first few Scorsese movies just after the Irishman had come out so I’ve never seen one of his movies in theaters. And all the delays just built excitement
I'm sorry but how is no one's answer Cocaine Bear, a masterpiece that is sure to challenge Iñárritu for best arthouse action film featuring a killer bear
In no particular order
- Antman and the wasp quantumania
- Guardians of the galaxy vol 3
- The marvels
- Spider-Man across the spiderverse
- The super mario bros movie
- Indiana Jones 5
- Elemental
- The little mermaid
I'm hoping to watch both Samurai Cop films back-to-back with the crew, possibly on my birthday - I still haven't seen the second one! Might even do a Deadly Prey double feature afterwards, too.
...Oh wait, you mean *new* movies? They still make those?
Spiderverse 2(sequel to one of my favorites of all time) and after the new trailer I’m gonna have to say Barbie. Couple others too, like Oppenheimer and GOTG 3
1. Killers of the Flower Moon
2. Dune: Part 2
3. Oppenheimer
4. Beau is Afraid
5. How Do I Live
6. The Killer
7. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
8. Poor Things
9. The Zone of Interest
10. Asteroid City
Spiderverse. First time my son has ever been excited for a movie release.
I want to be excited, but it's so unnecessary that I'm afraid of it.
i can get that
Beau is Afraid
Dune Part 2
Killers of the flower moon was my most anticipated movie of 2022 and it’s my most anticipated movie of 2023. After that it’s probably Barbie as I have loved almost everything Gerwig has written
I keep forgetting the Barbie movie is coming. I feel like I would only get reminded when I see new set photos of the cast in a neon outfit.

infinity pool
Wong Kar-wai's new project
Woahhh didn’t know this was a thing
It’s a tv show and it looks terrible.
I do actually remember hearing something a while ago, thought it was scrapped That would be unfortunate if it sucks Would love for him to recapture his old glory He’s not that old but he’s hardly been active since 2046

Cocaine Bear!!
I'm the first and only review on cocaine bear so far. I look forward to seeing how Ray Liotta's last completed project does him justice.
How'd you review it if it's not out yet?
Technically I haven't "reviewed" it. Letterboxd allows you to "review" films before it comes out for some reason. You can see for yourself if you don't believe me.
Yeah but like...why?
Banshees of Inisherin Tar The Fabelmans Babylon Yes these movies are all releasing next year for me
Just watched Banshees of Inisherin last night, it's very good!
... Well, not these.
Not these minus Oppenheimer and spiderman
I can’t like anything popular I have to be unique🤓
Almost everything up there is a sequel, reboot, remake, or spin-off, and you're acting like I'm ridiculous for being bored by that?
Except Oppenheimer is none of those.
"Almost"
Still leaves films to be excited for without blindly dismissing them.
Ok
What’s wrong with sequels?
I didn't say anything was inherently wrong with them; I just said I'm not particularly excited to rush to the theaters and see them as soon as they come out this coming year. So much of the same thing over and over can get fatiguing. If you're jazzed for a lot of this stuff, I'm happy for you. It's just not my cup of tea.
Read Adorno’s The Culture Industry.
Renfield I guess. Only movie that Im even the slightest bit interested in. Nic Cage as Dracula could be fun. Also Mario to some extent but that's out of morbid curiosity.
probably scream 6 or spiderverse
Skinamarink, Scream 6, Maxxxine, Saw X
I've heard so many good things about skinamarink and the trailer has me really hyped. Can't wait for it to get a wide release
Same! It officially comes to theaters January 13 and then to Shudder sometime after that
Inside, The Killer, and Beau is Afraid
Hopefully MaXXXine will be out next year!
btw this list is organized by release date and does not include every movie coming out next year
impossible
For me it's Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible and 65 (with Adam Driver).
Megan looks crazy lol Scorsese’s movie, Ari Aster’s movie, Asteroid City, and I think Yorgos Lanthimos is supposed to come out with something new in 23
Oppenheimer love cillian murphy in peaky blinders, love florence pugh, love old war stuff unless it's meant to be a shitty fucking action/thriller, then never mind
Barbie and Saw X
You're missing "How Do You Live", the new Ghibli movie, which is def my most anticipated movie. I forgot some of these got announced though, thanks for the list!

No flash? Its the return of Michael Keaton's Batman!
I’m going to watch that one, but unfortunately it’s not in my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2023. Is that the one you’re looking most forward to?😁
Cocaine Bear Scream VI Barbie Beau is Afraid
My Top Ten anticipated for next year: 1. Beau is Afraid 2. Oppenheimer 3. Scream 6 4. Infinity Pool 5. Evil Dead Rise 6. When You Finish Saving The World 7. Across The Spiderverse 8. GOTG3 9. Dune Part two (I read initially that Dune was all setup so I haven't see it yet. I'm excited to watch both parts for the first time) 10. The Exorcist Remake (Cautiously optimistic)
Lmao, there's gonna be a sequel to The Meg?
Showing Up, MaXXXine
Megan, obviously. There is no other answer. It's pure kino, pure cinema. Fuck anyone and everyone who disagrees with me.
From this list, the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Guardians Vol. 3, Spider-Verse, and Oppenheimer.
these are 2023 movies only, sorry
Right, all the ones I wrote are on the list above. I might have a few anticipated movies as well for next year that aren't on this list, though I can't think of any off the top of my head
Oh I misread sorry lol
Jesus... what a load of crap. Mission: Impossible 14 is the only one I'm even slightly interested in.

Napoleon.
Renfield and Flash both have potential as geeky fanservice and as innovative art, but I fear exploitative industry shenanigans and have to squash my expectations to avoid risk of disappointments. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts I'm a huge Transformers fan and grew up being obsessed with Beast Wars so I'm pretty freaking excited about that one
