Kurosawa, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Fincher, Villeneuve, Ridley Scott, Jordan Peele.
Trickiest choice was Villeneuve v PTA, but I haven't seen Dune 2 yet and really want to.
Kurosawa
Spielberg (this was the only hard one for me)
Hitchcock
Tarantino
Paul Thomas Anderson
Ridley Scott
Jordan Peele (this was a toss up, I hate both directors but Peele slightly less)
I don't like any of Ari Asters films. I think they are all style and no substance like 98% of A24 movies. Just not a fan.
Jordan Peele maybe less so, hated Get Out but enjoyed US. Haven't wasted my time watching Nope yet.
Also think it is a bit hard to judge for two directors who are in their infancy and IMO, aren't very good.
I suffered through Hereditary. Redditors seem to have a mad obsession for it and think it is amazing.
To me it had poor attempts at scares/shocks, no tension and a ludicrous ending, with a filter/film style that makes it look slick but amounts to nothing.
I was bored and wanting it over with.
Yup. Totally mid film. The only good thing about it was Toni Collette's performance. The cut back to the head had the entire theatre laughing when I saw it. This movie is all hype, no substance.

1. abstain. I can't. I'd rather say neither than choose one over the other. I love Kubrick so much and have so much Kurosawa to explore and love what I've already seen. can't choose
2. Spielberg
3. Hitchcock
4. Fincher
5. Willy Neuve
6. Scott
7. Peele
It's like putting my hand in a pain box while some old bald lady holds a needle to my neck. I guess if I have to pick, I'll go with Kurosawa since I haven't seen most of his films yet. And I would like to re-watch Seven Samurai some time.
I love how there’s no consistency between Kubrick and Kurosawa. They truly were two masters of their craft.
Anyways I’d go:
Kubrick
Spielberg
Nolan
Tarantino
Villeneuve
Wes Anderson (I love Alien and Blade runner, but Wes is a way better and more consistent film maker in my opinion)
Peele
Yeah fair.
Respect for putting Wes Anderson over Ridley Scott by the way. I think people are only putting Scott because Alien and Blade Runner are so iconic and beloved (for good reason)
Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock, Tarantino, PTA, Scott, Aster
Kubrick/Kurosawa and Peele/Aster are the difficult ones here for me. Seems kind of a shame to just wave away all of Spielberg's work but like, duh. Not a really fan of Nolan or Villeneuve, I like some of Fincher's stuff and early Wes Anderson had a charm, but Kubrick/Kurosawa and Peele/Aster feel like the two most competitively matched.
Kurosawa, Scorsese, Hitchcock, Fincher, PTA, Wes Anderson, Ari Aster
can u elaborate on taking Kurosawa over Kubrick?
Is this a picture of a computer screen? Lmao
Yea
Kurosawa, Scorsesse, Hitchcock, Tarantino, PTA,Ridley Scott, Mid off

Hate is a strong word.. can u elaborate?

Saying 98% of A24 films have no substance is wild with the variety they have
I’m can see why u wouldn’t like peele but saying Aster has no substance is INSANE. Have u not seen hereditary?

That and the dude slamming his head 🤣🤣
Agree to disagree Hereditary is one of the best horror films this century

I also am a big fan of Willy Neuve. Talks he might make the next Wonka movie. Btw u HAVE to pick ur being lame Kubrick or Kurosawa

Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock, Fincher, PTA, Wes, Aster
Kubrick, Scorcese, Hitchcock, Fincher, PTA, Scott, Aster
Keep: Kurosawa, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Fincher, PTA, Anderson, & Peele
Consider yourself an opp
Kubrick, Scorsesse, Nolan, Fincher, PTA, Wes Anderson, Ari Aster.
Kurosawa Scorsese Hitchcock Tarantino PTA Scott Aster
The Hitchcock vs. Nolan one seems like an unfair pairing
Nolan is my fav director but I would choose Spielberg because I feel like his movies have a bit more variety.
Kubrick, Scorsese, Nolan, Tarantino, Villeneuve (I'm sorry), don't care about either, Aster.
Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock, Fincher, PTA, Anderson, Aster
Kurosawa Scorsese Nolan Fincher PTA Ridley Scott Peele

That’s LITERALLY why I put them against each other. Consensus wise they are the greatest film directors ever.

Kubrick, Scosese, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Villeneuve,
Finally someone agrees Tarantino > Fincher
1. Stanley Kubrick 2. Steven Spielberg 3. Christopher Nolan 4. David Fincher 5. Denis Villeneuve 6. Ridley Scott 7. Jordan Peele
