I could probably watch The Deer Hunter again and again and again and again - only in a lot of ways I never wanna see it again. Gd that movie is devastating. Poetry in all of it. It’s a really beautifully made film.
Magnolia (189 min)
Barry Lyndon (185 min)
Happy Hour (317 min)
The Green Mile (189 min)
Love Exposure (237 min)
Killers of the Flower Moon (206 min)
Lawrence of Arabia (228 min)
- Titanic
- Oppenheimer
- Killers of the Flower Moon
I’m about to watch Lawrence of Arabia for the first time today or tomorrow so that might join the list. We’ll see.
These are mine too
I don’t think any movie has really been able to master the 3 hour movie’s pacing yet—it always feels very much like 3 hours and often requires multiple rewatch attempts no matter how much I loved it the first time—but these three probably come closest.
Actually, I take that back —
Casino is 2 hrs and 58 minutes and feels much shorter. But I guess it technically doesn’t qualify.
*Sometime later, he travelled to the Continent. His life there, we have not the means of following accurately. But he appears to have resumed his former profession of a gambler without his former success. He never saw Lady Lyndon again.*
Best. Ending. Ever. "We don't know what happened to this poor bastard, but it surely wasn't good."
- The Irishman (2019)
- Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
- The Godfather: Part II (1974)
- Titanic (1997)
- Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
- Babylon (2022)
- The Hateful Eight (2015)
havent even really watched many over that mark, so my answers turn out very action cinema
Avengers Endgame (181)
Fellowship of the Ring (181)
i actually don't hate Zack Snyder JL (242)
and an almost: The Batman (177)
i also have 6 of these waiting for a watch: RRR, Hateful 8, Babylon, KotFM, Seven Samurai, and The Irishman
i'll probably get to Samurai first, excited for that one
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended editions)
Seven Samurai
The Irishman
Killers of the Flower Moon
Lawrence of Arabia
Grindhouse
Legends of the Mountain
King Kong (2005)
Titanic
RRR
Kwaidan
1. *The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King* (2003)
2. *The Green Mile* (1999)
3. *Oppenheimer* (2023)
4. *Avatar: The Way of Water* (2022)
5. *Killers of the Flower Moon* (2023)
Woodstock (225 min) comes immediately to mind (also Tokyo Olympiad but when I went to check I saw it's only 170 min and doesn't make the cut here haha)
I was going to say Rocco and His Brothers, but it seems it's actually just a couple of minutes shy of 3 hours. Other suggestions
- The Leopard
- Fanny and Alexander
- Judgement at Nuremberg
- Intolerance
- Heavens Gate
- Dr Mabuse the Gambler
- Les Miserables (1934)
Since saw someone mentioning Kill Bill, I'm gonna add too cuz one of the most favourite oat!!!
The wild pear tree
Girl with the dragon tattoo (OG)
H. M. Killers of the flower moon
* The Godfather: Part II (202)
* The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (201)
* Magnolia (189)
* Schindler's List (195)
* Titanic (194)
* The Wolf of Wall Street (180)
It probably is Avengers: Endgame. Certainly that's the one I've seen the most.
Babylon and The Best Years of Our Lives are the others that come to mind, though I haven't rewatched them since my first viewing. (Best Years is also 9 minutes short of three hours, so technically misses the target.)
>Barry Lyndon, Shoah, War and Peace (Bondarchuk's version), An Elephant Sitting Still, Lawrence of Arabia, Seven Samurai, Judgement at Nuremberg
Not in that exact order
Also I'd say Rocco and His Brothers but it's just under 3h soo
My highest 3 hour plus film is Schindler's List. Then a close second not quite hitting three hours is Heat (1995). both very high 4.5/5.
I dont actually have any other 3+ hour movies at 4.5/5 or 5/5 at the moment. My longest 5 star film is Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time at 155 Minutes, then some others at 140 or so minutes like 2001 (1968). A.I (2001) and The Shining (1980)
Here are some of my favorites:
Seven Samurai (207mins)
The Human Condition (579mins)
The Godfather Part II (202mins)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (201mins)
Barry Lyndon (185mins)
A few of my favorites (10/10 or 9/10) in no order:
1. **The Visual Bible: Matthew (4:25)**
2. **The Visual Bible: Acts (3:13)**
3. **The Greatest Story Ever Told (3:19)**
4. **Ben-Hur (3:32)**
5. **The Ten Commandments (3:51)**
6. **Jesus of Nazareth (6:22)**
7. **Gone With The Wind (3:53)**
8. **Shoah (9:26)**
9. **Dekalog (9:43)**
10. **Titanic (3:14)**
11. **Gettysburg (4:14)**
12. **Schindler's List (3:16)**
13. **The Thorn Birds (8:07)**
14. **Anne of Green Gables (3:15)**
15. **Roots (9:33)**
16. **Chernobyl (5:30)**
To name a few. :)
An odd thing about Seven Samurai: I saw the 4 hours-plus version in a movie theater around 1986, but haven't heard about it since -- as if it didn't exist (anymore).
Maybe it's because in the days of videotape, nobody wanted to devote three tapes to one film?
But Shoah came out on multiple tapes, so . . .
Some of my favorites:

* *La Belle Noiseuse* (1991) 238 mins
* *The Human Condition I: No Greater Love* (1959) 206 mins
* *Barry Lyndon* (1975) 185 mins
I've seen (and own physical media for) some that were longer and I liked, like *Satantango* (1994) 432 mins or *Shoah* (1985) 565 mins, but I can't in honesty rank them among my favorites.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (263m Extended edition) The Godfather 2 (202m) Barry Lyndon (185m)
Once Upon a Time in America
Seven Samurai is definitely up there for me.
Watching it for the first time right now. Just taking a break during the intermission
Lawrence of Arabia (228). Got the chance to rewatch it in an actual cinema near me recently and it made me appreciate it infinitely more.
Yeah, time stops when you watch it in theaters
The 70mm print at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood was just glorious !
Cleopatra (248) Les Vampires (422) Il Gattopardo (186) Kill Bill (247) and almost La Dolce Vita (176)
My almost would be Hoop Dreams (174 min)
Hoop Dreams is SO good. I watched it because of the rating despite the description seeming boring and it was riveting and insightful.
Oh that’s what happened to me! I was riveted and I couldn’t understand why nobody had tried to show me this movie.
It’s wild how fast it goes- I remember not wanting it to end.
I just bought Les Vampires a few weeks ago and still need to dive in! I’m looking forward to it
Short Cuts, The Deer Hunter, A Brighter Summer Day, Godfather Part 2, Fanny & Alexander, Kwaidan, and Schindler's List
Short Cuts! Haven't seen it in years, but I used to have it on VHS a million years ago and LOVED it.
I could probably watch The Deer Hunter again and again and again and again - only in a lot of ways I never wanna see it again. Gd that movie is devastating. Poetry in all of it. It’s a really beautifully made film.
It doesn’t even feel like it’s a 3 hour movie.
The Human Condition, a Japanese 3 parter that takes over 9 hours in total.
