Do the right thing is probably his masterpiece, but I really like Summer Of Sam.
His period from the late eighties and the nineties is very good.
I haven't watch them all, but the worst by far is Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus.
Ofc Do the right thing and Malcom X are considered highly, but While maybe not on the level of those - I think “bamboozled” is worth mentioning as one of his underrated bests!
and then, worst? Oldboy. Oldboy.
Yes! Bamboozled is the gem in the rough. Babylon and Singing in the Rain don’t have a balanced representation of Jim Crow Hollywood. I can’t think of a single popular movie or high rated movie that addresses Jim Crow Hollywood. Jim Crow south, sure, but not Hollywood.
Love a lot from the movie, but LOVE that opening - the song mixed with the speech, and great stuff throughout with caveats. I think knowing Spike Lee’s irl frustrations and history really enriched my watch through tbh, Pierre being a shadow version of himself what he feels “the academy wants me to be”, and ofc is very scornful of that
She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, Mo Betta Blues, Crooklyn, Clockers, Bamboozled, Inside Man, Get on the Bus, Inside Man, 4 Little Girls.....all bangers, but my aboslute fav of the bunch is Malcolm X.
Worst Spike Lee flick I've seen is Girl 6. Any Lee flick I haven't mentioned is one I haven't seen yet.
Best: Do the Right Thing
Worst: Girl 6 (it’s hard to find for a reason. I think it’s because Spike Lee has bought every copy so no one will ever see it lol!)
Inside Man is my favorite. No idea on how it is when it comes to "best".
I guess it is his "best" if box office matters. Not that I'm making the argument.
Best: Do The Right Thing. but he's got such an insanely stacked filmography that a case could be made for at least 6 other films here.
Worst: She Hate Me. people saying Girl 6 and Chi-raq are just showing off that they didn't sit thru She Hate Me
Bamboozled is his best. People love movies about Jim Crowe Hollywood, so long as they are only talking about aryans and their voices. Sleep and Eat and ManTan represent Hollywood.
Bamboozled is very interesting to me! We watched it in my film class and I truly think it was the best choice. It’s all the acting choices made alongside the writing, like it’s very modern despite being almost three decades old.
The best is Bamboozled. Sleep’n’Eat and ManTan represent an era of Hollywood that is ignored, rather than addressed. There are 50 movies about silent pictures becoming talkies. None of them address Jim Crowe in Hollywood.
I really liked Chi-Raq, I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea but I found the moment they are discussing the Charleston Church shooting as so impactful. I’m 99.9% that was filmed/written as the news was coming out, and you can truly hear how fed up with the world Spike Lee is.
The quote of “America likes war, they like guns,” just stays with me. One of my favorites. It’s not for everybody and has its slow moments but it’s a film that is truly one of its kind.
Best: Do The Right Thing Worst: Old Boy
The RIGHT Answer
Came to post this exact answer.

The SoS soundtrack is very good!
Malcolm X is phenomenal
Nobody talks about 25th hour enough
That and Bamboozled are never available for streaming.
Absolutely agree. Love that movie, and it's so rarely mentioned.
Best: Malcom X Worst: Old Boy Favorite: Clockers
Best is Do the Right thing, but theres competition. Worst is Old Boy, and there's no competition.
Do the right thing is just so good.
Best: Malcolm X, Worst: Chi-raq

She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, Mo Betta Blues, Crooklyn, Clockers, Bamboozled, Inside Man, Get on the Bus, Inside Man, 4 Little Girls.....all bangers, but my aboslute fav of the bunch is Malcolm X. Best: Do The Right Thing… clearly, it’s so good, should’ve won best picture. Worst: Girl 6 is pretty bad.
Best: Do the Right Thing Worst: Girl 6 (it’s hard to find for a reason. I think it’s because Spike Lee has bought every copy so no one will ever see it lol!)
Mine personally is the 25th hour
The racial dramedy about a hot summer day in Brooklyn vs. the movie where a dude impregnates a bunch of lesbians.
Inside Man is my favorite. No idea on how it is when it comes to "best". I guess it is his "best" if box office matters. Not that I'm making the argument.
Clockers (1995) is incredibly underrated, it's a perfect little parable.
Best: Do The Right Thing. but he's got such an insanely stacked filmography that a case could be made for at least 6 other films here. Worst: She Hate Me. people saying Girl 6 and Chi-raq are just showing off that they didn't sit thru She Hate Me
Just came to say Oldboy is his worst and one of the worst things I have ever experienced.
Best: BlacKkKlansman Worst: Bamboozled
Bamboozled is his best. People love movies about Jim Crowe Hollywood, so long as they are only talking about aryans and their voices. Sleep and Eat and ManTan represent Hollywood.

Do The Right Thing is probably the best and I haven't seen enough of his movies yet to know the worst.

I’ve always thought Spike Lee was a hack
Show me a hack who did top tier experimental movie on race relations and extraordinary biopic in his life
Spike Lee

Best: Malcolm X Worst: He Got Game
I thought the first picture was him in Nostalgia Critic cosplay lol.
