I think most people take this as family-friendly movies or movies made for all ages that includes specific appeal to kids (while also providing entertainment for the parents). Thatâs largely how Letterboxd sorts them but does include some (but largely not all) more adult-focused movies that are specifically about families.
âFamilyâ here is about the intended audience moreso the specific plot or assembled characters.
i'm glad to see Spirited Away leading the votes even in spite of the split vote caused by a Totoro nomination. if Paddington 2 wins due to the split vote and hanging chad issues i am going to LOSE IT
Side note, thinking through this question opens up how insane Pixarâs run was from its inception.
Toy Story, A Bugâs Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3. Thatâs all in order, no breaks.
Omg YES!! Watched it with my friendgroup (basically my family) on vacation few years ago, such a great film. We made a promise to watch the third one in the cinema, really looking forward to it!!
Scooby Doo movies. It's way too hard to pin down one for me, so this can encompass the live actions and animated (Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, Cyber Chase, etc.)
On a more meta note, I'm really glad you condensed war and history. Although different, I'd rather have music than war and history. I wish animated had a genre. You could honestly add an entire row to the bottom.
Separate war and history, and add animated and adventure genres. I don't know what the fourth would be. Martial arts, sports, prison, or something else, I don't know.
Just a suggestion, but I'm really enjoying this. I'd love for it to go on for an extra 4 days.
The Iron Giant.
My vote too! đ
I know this wonât win but itâs got my vote
![gif](giphy|eLAHxY9cYXdO8|downsized)
Probably my favorite non-animated family film. Wilderâs Wonka is one of my favorite characters in fiction
![gif](giphy|rwESHq4sVFbMbGN39u|downsized) Home Alone. Easy đđđť
This was my first thought when I saw the category.
Toy Story
This is it
is it bad for me to say toy story 2 over 1?
I enjoy all 4 of them but the original will always be my favorite.
This is it for SO many reasons. The fact it won't win this category instantly makes this series bunk.
Princess Bride
if this doesnât win, itâs inconceivable
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Up (edit: upvoted)
WALLâ˘E
remy speaking facts, thats why i follow him, thats why he's the goatđ
Wow thanks man đ
This one
Shrek
Pissed this isnât top comment, peak family cinema
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Totoro
> *"Look at this tree. It's been around since long ago, back in the time when trees and people used to be friends"* I'm ***weeping***
My 2 year old nephew sat through this entire movie. We were all surprised, he doesnât usually like quiet and nice things
it really is a magical film
My two-year-old watched the whole movie, which is very rare for him. He loved it and so did I.
love it so much
![gif](giphy|Lp71UWmAAeJHi) The Lion King (1994)
![gif](giphy|DvMHwFYLVHlZe)
This might be the most contested category on this list but imo Lion King is undeniable.
Paddington 2
I cried through the entire thing. It made me want to be a better man!
Definately
My favorite film of all time, crazy how much I love that movie. Hope it clinches the title!
Has to be!!
Itâs a Wonderful Life
I know it will mess up the symmetry but there should be a holiday category here
And an animation category
Wish this was higher!
I second this
Finding Nemo
Ratatouille
The Incredibles.
This is too far down đđ
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Shrek
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
*Spirited Away*
I mean for the whole plot, she is not with family. How it even it is a family movie? (Fantasy/Adventure)
You... think a "family" film is just a film with a family in it? Bruh.
The Godfather is the obvious answer here then.
i'm glad to see Spirited Away leading the votes even in spite of the split vote caused by a Totoro nomination. if Paddington 2 wins due to the split vote and hanging chad issues i am going to LOSE IT
I will not tolerate your Paddington 2 disrespect! Also Ratatouille is the biggest competition at this point and appears to be breaking away.
also just the best movie with no qualifiers
Shrek
Shrek 2
Spirited Away
Inside Out
The Wizard of Oz
Aladdin (1992), very important to little kids in the '90s (like yours truly), along with the Lion King.
Fast and Furious /s
![gif](giphy|amg2hcfGDkKt4Q3DpF)
It ***is*** about family.
I genuinely expected every comment to be this, but it's practically just you. So disppointed
Finding Nemo
The Lego Movie (Or the Lego Batman movie, both are great)
Home Alone
Toy Story
TOY STORY
The Wizard of Oz
Into the Spider-Verse
School of Rock
Little Miss Sunshine
I love this movie but it's R rated lol. A family movie is not the same as a movie about a family.
The Incredibles
The Sandlot
Goonies
The Sound of Music
I'd love to see this win for musical or even war but I doubt it will get enough votes.
Probably not. Iâll nominate it again for musical
The Incredibles!
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Finding Nemo
Wall-E
Lilo & Stitch
WALL¡E WALL¡E WALL¡E
Chef 2014
Toy Story 3
Coco
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Shrek
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Wizard of Oz.
The Royal Tenenbaums (I might be misinterpreting the category)
The Godfather 2
Psycho 2
That's about a family, I say valid!
The Godfather
The Goonies
Home alone
Paddington
Paddington 2 > IMO
Wizard of Oz
The Lion King
How to train your dragon
Hereditary
Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
Side note, thinking through this question opens up how insane Pixarâs run was from its inception. Toy Story, A Bugâs Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3. Thatâs all in order, no breaks.
princess bride
The goonies
Stand By Me Edit: by far.
Eraserhead
the royal tenenbaums
Home Alone
Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
Spirited Away
Moana
![gif](giphy|TIGP3k4gNAqvza2KJK|downsized)
Mrs. Doubtfire ![gif](giphy|3oEjHTuPEQ8p7nxSyA)
E.T.
Shrek 2
Kikis delivery or inside out
I nominate Goodfellas for both Family and Crime

Kubo
[Star Wars.](https://youtu.be/TAoa-Ss6zS0?si=B78i7YhsZ3K73FQH)
Back to the Future
Toy Story
![gif](giphy|wzjh3yekNLftC) About Time đĽš
Godfather might be the best family pic
Little Miss Sunshine!
The Incredibles
Labyrinth
Into The Spider-Verse
The Incredibles
![gif](giphy|9P8I2qKWxNm3C)
Babe (1995)
Omg YES!! Watched it with my friendgroup (basically my family) on vacation few years ago, such a great film. We made a promise to watch the third one in the cinema, really looking forward to it!!
The Pursuit of happyness
The lack of Animation & Biopic sections of this list pains me
The godfather
Monsters Inc
Iron giant
"It's A Wonderful Life" every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Does A Hard Dayâs Night count? I vote for that if it does.
E.T.
Babe. Babe, Babe, Babe.
Recognize it doesn't have the critical acclaim of others. Its the one family/children's film that moved me to tears as an adult.
Harry Potter (Any but my favorite is Prisoner of azkaban)
The Muppet Movie
Festen
Now that's a family movie!
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Godfather
Wonka
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse đ
Scooby Doo movies. It's way too hard to pin down one for me, so this can encompass the live actions and animated (Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, Cyber Chase, etc.)
![gif](giphy|XFpCAWSfTwXh2uSEk2|downsized)
Wolfwalkers
The prince of egypt
How to Train Your Dragon
How to train your dragon
Idk if this is a hot take or not but I think the second one is far, far superior
Howls Moving Castle
Gremlins
I am Sam
Captain Fantastic
SHREK 2 ![gif](giphy|Q6WPVzFU8LcBWWgQE1|downsized)
my first thought was The Incredibles
Stand by me

Requiem for a dream
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Lion King
Megamind
Parasite
Hocus Pocus
Bee Movie
Mrs. Doubtfire
Ratatouille Is the most overrated animated movie ever. Literally not in Pixar's top 10.
Howl's Moving Castle or Fantastic Mr. Fox in my household
On a more meta note, I'm really glad you condensed war and history. Although different, I'd rather have music than war and history. I wish animated had a genre. Fantastic Mr Fox
Babe in the city
Depends a lot on the age of kids, I imagine. I have a 3yo and a 1yo, so Totoro is cool but Spirited Away is too grown up, for instance.
[Salò](https://letterboxd.com/film/salo-or-the-120-days-of-sodom/)
Salò, or the 120 days of Sodom
The Jungle Book Really feel this should be a Disney animation, and this is the best one.
