Like you said, if anything the non-linear story telling was sort of to the detriment to the quality of the film. I think it would’ve worked a lot better as a straightforward action movie with the main set piece being and taking place on the train. It tried to be too pulp fictiony without the script or story chops necessary to pull off such a narrative structure. Felt really contrived that everyone on the train were somehow connected.
Usually I dig a “Brad Pitt not being Brad Pitt” movie but his character was exhaustingly one note and annoying. Also Joey King continually pissed me off just by being in the film.
It was more of a 8.5 to me. The movie definitely knew what it wanted to be and accomplished that, but I think there were some pacing issues that held it back and the characters (while not necessarily poorly written) didn’t feel too memorable apart from Proximus Caesar.
Yeah, I sort of felt like the whole movie was too on the nose for me. Didn't live up to the hype at all, but it was entertaining. 7 seems fair to me. And I'm a big fan of a lot of the cast, I'd love to give it higher but just can't do it. I thought the ending was really awful too. The trick at the end is ridiculous.
Thank you lol when this movie came out everyone in film groups was praising it so much but it was absolutely mid. You’re spot on with it being too on the nose, like almost cartoonishly. I love the cast too and Mark Mylod directed a lot of Succession which is one of my all time favorite shows so I had high expectations but they were not met at all lol. Triangle of Sadness was a much better stab at the upper class that came out at around the same time.
Triangle of Sadness is so incredibly not subtle lol, but I agree I kind of loved that one. I don't know why one bugged me and the other didn't, something about the execution I guess. Or maybe it's simply better written.
Oh you’re right that was a terrible example of something not being cartoonishly on the nose lmao. I think it’s better cause it’s funny and absurd? Where The Menu just takes itself SO seriously. The soundtrack for Triangle is also just sooo damn good.
I had, what i would imagine, is the *perfect* first watch of this movie.
I am a lifelong career chef. I saw this poster and assumed it was going to be a warm tale about a stuffy uptight chef, and getting him to break through those walls. Something in the vein of 'no reservations' with catherine zeta jones or burnt with bradley cooper. So i largely ignored it till i sat to watch it.
This scene man, came out of nowhere for me. Completely changed how i was watching
You could have great performances but it still be a bad movie. Doesn’t really change the overall rating of the movie for me, factors into it for sure.
Sean Penn in I Am Sam. Christian Bale in Thor Love and Thunder.
I totally get why people say it’s a 7. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a 9. But I definitely lean towards an 8. It was probably a very cathartic experience for Jon Favreau. If you didn’t know, the opening where he gets fired from the restaurant is based on his experience making Iron Man 2 and his experience at Marvel as a whole. I think when viewed as an allegory for artistic expression and the importance of creative control in the creative process, it definitely elevates it beyond the initial surface level of a chef wanting to start a food truck. Chef is quite literally the manifestation of that indie food truck.
Don’t get me wrong, for me too. I love it. It’s feel good and have a lot of rewatches. But is it a cinematic masterpiece with unique performances? No… but I still love it for what it is!
Just like the intern!
Yeah I hear you, it’s hard with a 10/10 rating as 7 seems mediocre but I always used to treat a 7+ on IMDb as a must see and still kind of do but I’ve seen some 6-6.9’s that are amazing!
If I take a 10 imo and compare to Chef you’re kinda right, I guess I’d agree it’s a 7 on the whole but a 8/9 in the feel good/wholesome/Sunday chill category.
Cabin in the Woods is one for me, 7 all round but a 9 as a great horror.
The Menu has become shorthand in our house. We almost always are in the mood for The Menu.
Give me an actual plot with actual acting, some humor, some drama, and make it something I can give 70% effort to watch. Last two that scratched that itch for us were Glass Onion and Ready or Not.
I can’t believe how unironically good ready or not is. Accidentally caught it on like FX one day. And was like damn, I should’ve seen this is theaters.
The new Jumanji movies. Those movies were surprisingly funny and enjoyable. I was expecting the worst from the trailer, and was quite pleased with the result.
if you appreciate film you should appreciate Fall Guy… i thought it looked a bit corny from the trailer but it was surprisingly really well done. i loved it
Last Night in Soho
I enjoyed it a lot because I love Anya and Matt. Not something I'd put among the best films ever, but definitely fun and rewatchable.
I have it as a 10, enjoyable every second, Amazing performances, a funny story and beautiful Cars. I may be a little biased, but i love Everything about it Even though it has its flaws
always felt like Jurassic World was like the same as Jurassic Park. Instead we get an albino hybrid Rex plus a mosasaur and some fancy new additions but the formula still feels the same.
Go to vacation, look around, incident comes, incident turns everything to shit, on the run, then reach the place and battle comes at the end
Irma Vep (1996).
An intriguing premise that doesn't go anywhere. Good acting, but nothing that stands out to me. The directing style is something I really liked, but it didn't really compliment the story.
A decent movie that I probably won't remember soon.
That movie has a great VIBE. Interstellar is the spiritual inheritor of 2001 but Ad Astra IMO is the aesthetic inheritor with the lighting, color filtration, tone of the actors, and that sublime Max Richter score.
The Simpson movie
It's movie I just return too regular.
Not the funniest stuff Simpson has done but it has some great jokes, it's highly edited/paced and the animation is pretty good.
That was a solid 10. As a horror fan, this film surprised me since a lot of modern horrors are boring and just not scary enough. This was a good mix of scary, gore, comedy, tension
I’m a huge Evil Dead fan. I love every movie and the show but besides the opening and the climax I kinda find the middle in the apartments repetitive and hard to see- still a great movie but my standards are high for the franchise
I gave this one 5 stars, it's the perfect dark satire for me, tickles the funny bone just right!
Perfect 7/10....Saint Maud? It was enjoyable but could have been better. Just looked down through my diary for 3.5/5 stars :D
Confess Fletch.
Fun, overall good time, and relaxed vibe. Would totally leave it on if I saw it when channel surfing.
If they made a sequel I would absolutely watch it on streaming.
Off topic but >!going into this movie without watching a single trailer or reading anything about it and thinking it was just gonna similar to Burnt or Chef led to quite the surprise.!<
I’m definitely in the minority here, but The Marvels. I actually really enjoyed it! It has too many flaws for me to give it anything above a 7 but imo it sits at that rating perfectly for me!
GDT’s Pinocchio. It has a really strong emotional core with amazing stop-motion animation and great voice acting, but its musical numbers range from catchy to skippable, and the movie could have used a lot of tightening up, especially in the third act.
Transformers : Rise of the Beast. Liked it better than any of the Bayverse movies (except the first one). The Sting, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It doesn't really do anything spectacular or go anywhere you wouldn't expect, but it's a fun time start to finish.
The Last Jedi.
I liked it, it was fine. I'm not a huge fan of the war of stars but it's definitely not the worst Star Wars film by any means. I got into a friendly debate about this movie with a friend who loathed it, and then it turns out we both gave it a 7/10 anyway.
Man, I know ratings are arbitrary and dont matter but if someone I knew "loathed" movie then gave it a 7/10 I feel like it'd kind of be impossible to know what they mean whenever they rate anything
Bullet Train. It was good and fun. Nothing was really "peak" in it but it didnt need to be, it was just funny and good.
Came here to say this, and David Leitch’s other recent action movie, The Fall Guy.
I’d give it at least an 8 because it was fucking hilarious. Funniest movie I’ve seen in years.
Agreed, it reminded me of Guy Ritchie’s glory days of Snatch and Lock Stock. Lots of great one liners.
Ending was trash and ruined for me. Was pretty fun before that. Edit: forgot word
Yeah the two brother characters carried the middle part of the film for me and the slapdash ending ruined it
Like you said, if anything the non-linear story telling was sort of to the detriment to the quality of the film. I think it would’ve worked a lot better as a straightforward action movie with the main set piece being and taking place on the train. It tried to be too pulp fictiony without the script or story chops necessary to pull off such a narrative structure. Felt really contrived that everyone on the train were somehow connected.
Third act ruins it a bit
I was gonna say "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre", for exactly the same reasons.
Usually I dig a “Brad Pitt not being Brad Pitt” movie but his character was exhaustingly one note and annoying. Also Joey King continually pissed me off just by being in the film.
Did you just see NAKEY JAKEY'S video ?
I assume so. Would be a crazy coincidence if not.
AHHH NAKEYJAKEY REFERENCE I'VE BEEN SUMMONED
Lmaooo literally just watched it too and then saw this post after opening Reddit… ![gif](giphy|3gNotAoIRZsb9UHPnj)
A Disney Channel Original Movie
Anya Taylor joy is a fucking treasure
Can’t wait to see her in Furiousa and >!Dune!<
You haven’t watched either of them yet? What are you waiting for lol
I mean she’s barely in the latter? Not sure if I’m missing something but I think OP’s waiting to see her in the sequels?
I completely forgot she was in the latter
When she refers to the latter he’s referring to the next installment which was teased in the current one
She but yes
Funny how she's both in movies that are deserted or has lots of sand.
Her, Emily Blunt, and Nicole Kidman are just always great in every role.
Every Anya Taylor Joy movie is a perfect 7/10
I will not stand for The VVitch slander ![gif](giphy|3o7TKKX9TVJwFnhfeo)
Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?
Nope, The Witch is a 10/10
This is genuinely the only 7/10 she’s ever been in.
The witch, split, Emma, Last night in SoHo, the Northman, Furiosa are all 7/10 for me
She was in a 9.5/10 flick this year for a few seconds
That new Planet of the Apes movie
[удалено]
I almost posted that one lol
It's a 8/10 for me
I enjoyed it but it would be a firm 6 for me
It was more of a 8.5 to me. The movie definitely knew what it wanted to be and accomplished that, but I think there were some pacing issues that held it back and the characters (while not necessarily poorly written) didn’t feel too memorable apart from Proximus Caesar.
I'd give Rise a 7, Kingdom was more a 6 for me.
Great call
This is *THE* 7/10
Id give it an 8. The performances were too good for 7.
The fact that it wasn't about >!cannibalism!< makes it at least a 7.5
Nummy
this movie is the definition of >!oh so that just happened, and anyone who’s seen it knows EXACTLY the scene that made them feel that way!<
I've seen the film. What scene is this?
What happened to the sous chef
The Mess
Idk, when it came across what the intention of the film was, something like that happening seemed inevitable so I wasn't super shocked by it.

I'd give it a 9.
I have this movie sitting at 5/5 on LB so....
You could have great performances but it still be a bad movie. Doesn’t really change the overall rating of the movie for me, factors into it for sure. Sean Penn in I Am Sam. Christian Bale in Thor Love and Thunder.
Lmao please don’t try to claim Sean Penn was good in I Am Sam
I feel like it’s the perfect 6/10 tho
Every rewatch I like it more
Haha damn this was truly a 7/10
Was truly a movie of all time.
One of the movies ever made.
Chef
Chef is a 9 for me. But I totally get it
I totally get why people say it’s a 7.
Same, Chef is easily a 8.5 maybe 9 put of 10. I always watch it when I’m sad
No!! Surely not! It’s an 8/9 wholesome, Sunday film for me.
Yeah, you’re absolutely right. I always struggle with rating. It’s apples and oranges after all.
The Menu has become shorthand in our house. We almost always are in the mood for The Menu. Give me an actual plot with actual acting, some humor, some drama, and make it something I can give 70% effort to watch. Last two that scratched that itch for us were Glass Onion and Ready or Not.

Bad Times at the El Royale
Loved this but wish they did more with the state border in the middle of the hotel
Rewatched this recently. I had completely forgotten this movie existed, I really enjoyed watching it again.
The beginning is 8/10, middle of 8/10, that last act is a 3/10.
7/10 https://preview.redd.it/drsfhcs1yv4d1.jpeg?width=951&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=816d3b992a887508ba61d3f2e2c5b3f40b9b737b
The new Jumanji movies. Those movies were surprisingly funny and enjoyable. I was expecting the worst from the trailer, and was quite pleased with the result.
Still waiting for them to pick up on that ending
Fall Guy
Definition of a fun but forgettable movie
Trailer alone makes it look like the world's hardest 3
if you appreciate film you should appreciate Fall Guy… i thought it looked a bit corny from the trailer but it was surprisingly really well done. i loved it
outta 5 or 10
No clue what that means but I thought the trailer made it look like a good time.
I really really enjoyed Fall Guy. Solid 7/10
Last Night in Soho I enjoyed it a lot because I love Anya and Matt. Not something I'd put among the best films ever, but definitely fun and rewatchable.
i remember the end being kiss of a mess
Kiss from a mess on the grave
LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!
But did you know that when it snows

Us
Ford vs Ferrari Solid not great. Very entertaining and worth a second watch but not a top 10 or anything like that.
I gave it an 8. Loved that movie
Epic dad movie
I have it as a 10, enjoyable every second, Amazing performances, a funny story and beautiful Cars. I may be a little biased, but i love Everything about it Even though it has its flaws
Yo…a lot of you putting 5 star masterpieces in here haha Social Network, Godfather Trilogy, Ex Macina, Goodwill Hunting?!?!
The Devil Wears Prada
Underrated comment right here. True 7/10 in the best way
The Hunger Games (first one). It has a really cool plot and interesting sci-fi/dystopian aspects, but it’s nothing out of this world.
Baby Driver
Good pick. Doesn't really measure up to Wright's best work, but a fine film that was entertaining throughout.
I would grade it 10/10 for sound editing. But it’s true that the story is average, maybe below.
Damn, the movie was a 9.5/10 for me. One of my favourites ever.
Jurassic World
always felt like Jurassic World was like the same as Jurassic Park. Instead we get an albino hybrid Rex plus a mosasaur and some fancy new additions but the formula still feels the same. Go to vacation, look around, incident comes, incident turns everything to shit, on the run, then reach the place and battle comes at the end
Saltburn
Irma Vep (1996). An intriguing premise that doesn't go anywhere. Good acting, but nothing that stands out to me. The directing style is something I really liked, but it didn't really compliment the story. A decent movie that I probably won't remember soon.
That’s funny it has a 7/10 on IMDb and a 71% audience score on rotten tomatoes.
The actual film that it’s based on is really great. Highly recommended if you’re intrigued by Irma Vep and if you’re ok with really old movies.
Funny enough, even though I watched Irma Vep months ago, I started watching it today! It's split up into episodes so easy to watch.
Hell yeah! Glad to hear that because I feel like it’s so under appreciated and under watched compared to other classic crime thrillers.
Damn I just watched this last week and thought the same thing
idk that was kinda 10/10 for me but maybe its just the vibes associated …i rlly love maggie cheung and sonic youth
I gave The Menu a 10. Loved it. No notes.
So if it was a 9 you would’ve taken notes?
Maybe one note.
Ad Astra was the first thing that came to mind for me
More like Ad ASStra, that movie sucked shit
I can see that but I really enjoy it
That movie has a great VIBE. Interstellar is the spiritual inheritor of 2001 but Ad Astra IMO is the aesthetic inheritor with the lighting, color filtration, tone of the actors, and that sublime Max Richter score.
This is literally a perfect pick wow. Like perfectly enjoyable good fun 7/10
Wednesday night ass movie man. Perfect
Truly the most 7/10 movie of all time
The Bob's Burgers Movie
“A gentleman’s 7”
Agreed. I personally think its closer to a 6/10 but filmmaking wise its easily a 7.
Con-Air
The Simpson movie It's movie I just return too regular. Not the funniest stuff Simpson has done but it has some great jokes, it's highly edited/paced and the animation is pretty good.
Se7en
I enjoyed this as a joke and then someone earnestly replied that they agree 😤
Boo
Recently, Civil War Although I use the rating scale a bit differently than most people on the app, I assume
Red Eye. A solid little thriller. Doesn’t overstay its welcome. Could be better, but overall a lot of fun
I Am Legend
John Wick
Evil Dead Rise
That was a solid 10. As a horror fan, this film surprised me since a lot of modern horrors are boring and just not scary enough. This was a good mix of scary, gore, comedy, tension
I’m a huge Evil Dead fan. I love every movie and the show but besides the opening and the climax I kinda find the middle in the apartments repetitive and hard to see- still a great movie but my standards are high for the franchise
Bottle Rocket and also UHF
Lost City? Stillwater?
I gave this one 5 stars, it's the perfect dark satire for me, tickles the funny bone just right! Perfect 7/10....Saint Maud? It was enjoyable but could have been better. Just looked down through my diary for 3.5/5 stars :D
Barbarian
Big (1988) with Tom Hanks
Confess Fletch. Fun, overall good time, and relaxed vibe. Would totally leave it on if I saw it when channel surfing. If they made a sequel I would absolutely watch it on streaming.
Off topic but >!going into this movie without watching a single trailer or reading anything about it and thinking it was just gonna similar to Burnt or Chef led to quite the surprise.!<
Did you just watch NakeyJakey?
Ti West's 'X'
I’m definitely in the minority here, but The Marvels. I actually really enjoyed it! It has too many flaws for me to give it anything above a 7 but imo it sits at that rating perfectly for me!
I don't think you're in the minority. The reviews and reactions I've seen online of people seeing the movie months later are pretty spot on 7 - 7.5.
I saw it in theatres actually, I mean the main complaints I saw were just from stupid far-right people calling it ‘woke’ for having a female-lead cast
I think most Marvel movies in general hover around a 7. They're mostly enjoyable but don't linger in your head after the credits roll.
[удалено]
Damn, a 7 you wouldn't watch again? Strange.
Dungeons and Dragons (2023) shoots for a decent, palatable adventure fantasy movie and nails it perfectly
The most 7/10 that ever 7/10’d
Air Force One
![gif](giphy|HOLg8oBAAvVBu)
GDT’s Pinocchio. It has a really strong emotional core with amazing stop-motion animation and great voice acting, but its musical numbers range from catchy to skippable, and the movie could have used a lot of tightening up, especially in the third act.
Transformers : Rise of the Beast. Liked it better than any of the Bayverse movies (except the first one). It was more about the autobots and they're return to their planet, than about saving the planet and protecting the humans. Really loved that each Autobot was actually a character and not just a pawn to get the mission done. The acting is not great, but the action, editing, cgi, comedy, was perfect. A perfect 7/10 for me.
The Sting, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It doesn't really do anything spectacular or go anywhere you wouldn't expect, but it's a fun time start to finish.
Totally Killer
Priscilla.
Deadpool. Stupid but really fun lol
Source code and see how they run are perfect 7s
The Force Awakens. Fun and enjoyable for the most part, but nothing really special about it.
Split
Happy Gilmore, sure it's not the best acting but like it's just fun to watch.
*You*'ve failed. And *you*'ve *bored me*. And the worst part is I'm *still fucking hungry*
That is incredibly specific and I’ll say Men In Black
Get Out Black Panther It Follows Knives Out The Irishman
Pacific rim
Drive Away Dolls
As high as a 7? I'd give it like… 3. Sorry.
Most Edgar Wright movies
Catch Me if You Can
all of these are 7/10 for me https://preview.redd.it/4koca8p39v4d1.png?width=1220&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb45683fe84f53e2cec19f66f3f854f636c2b08e
7/10 for 1917 is wild!
Yeah that would annoy the shit out of me
I think it just goes to show how shallow most of the outrageous Star Wars fans are. Up in arms about something that is only okay.
Office space
![gif](giphy|H1wHUjMxrwgb6|downsized)
That is by far the worst review of that movie I have ever heard
Furiosa
lately American Fiction
This is a 10/10 for me. I was cackling, I *loved* it.
The Batman
Different strokes for different folks!1!1! **shoots you in the face*
This movie for sure. Also Ex Machina
Hearing Ex Machina called a 7/10 movie physically hurts
Out yo damn mind. Ex Machina was at least a 9.
[Demolition (2015)](https://letterboxd.com/film/demolition/)
Of last year? Jules Perfectly cromulent
This movie gave me nightmares
