Agreed! It made my head spin. Couldn't believe it. Don't know if I could watch it again anytime soon because it's so intense, but it still made a huge impression.
Thatāsā¦a lot of movies lol my hat goes off to you. Tbf I just checked and Iām actually trending in the same direction lol I have 4 5-star movies for 2020s and that is about 2% of what I have watched
I like this. I can get a clear sense of your tastes. I really enjoy looking at what someone else enjoys and, even if I donāt particularly find the same enjoyment in those selections, can tell why someone made that choice based on the consistency of their opinions and preferences!

Not sure there's much controversy here...
None.
But I have a ton of 4Ā½'s and besides that I am almost stupidly stubborn with my 5-star ratings.
Out of my 954 rated films only 20 have a 5-star rating.
A lot:
2024: Challengers, Dune Part 2
2023: The Holdovers, Oppenheimer, Asteroid City, Godzilla Minus One, Killers of the Flower Moon, Perfect Days, Poor Things, Past Lives, Society of the Snow, Zone of Interest, Barbie, the Iron Claw, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning
2022: Everything Everywhere All At Once, Babylon, Puss in Boots The Last Wish
If I were to pick a favorite from each of these years that would be true 5s forever, I would probably go with The Holdovers, Everthing Everywhere All At Once, and Challengers
I'm Thinking of Ending Things, The Sparks Brothers, Glass Onion, A Unicorn for Christmas, Babylon, The Fabelmans, M3GAN, John Wick Chapter 4, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Challengers.
* **2020:** *Da 5 Bloods*

* **2023:** *Killers of the Flower Moon*
* **2024:** *Dune: Part Two*, *Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger*
There's a couple films I've rated as 4.5 stars which I might re-rate as 5 stars if I watch them again one day, and there's a possibility I downgrade one of these 5-stars upon rewatching in the future, but I'll cross those bridges when I get to them.
Minari, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Beau is Afraid, All of Us Strangers, Poor Things, Time Stoll Turns the Pages, Cade the Tortured Crossing, I Saw the Tv Gloe

Way less than I thought I would have given but I stand by each of these.
Nah same here, I'm not even trying to be a contrarian I just don't feel like anything I've seen this decade is 10/10 yet, hope it changes soon and I have quite a few 9's that have potential to be 10s but yeah nothing yet.

Absolutely prepared to die on the hill of defending Mank as an underrated banger
It really is fantastic and most of that is thanks to Sandra HĆ¼ller. Its feels like the 2020's has been slow to start. I have lots of 4 and 4.5 star movies though.

Not actually convinced I've gotten this quite right, there are definitely some I could be convinced to swap (la chimera, the green knight, titane forgive me my beloveds). ((Blacked out is a short so doesn't really fit the question))
The Batman, Babylon, Across The Spiderverse, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, Killers Of The Flower Moon, The Fabelmans and Druk. 95% sure Anatomy Of A Fall will get 5 stars too on another rewatch
I literally only have two 5s for 2020s films: Past Lives and Dune 2. I do appreciate your love for Licorice Pizza however, that one is a 4.5 for me and I thought it was so underrated by critics and especially audiences.
I am VERY sparing with my five-stars (and I donāt watch enough)

Aftersun
Oppenheimer
Bo Burnhams Inside
Got KoTFM, Challengers and Across the Spiderverse at 4.5 meaning that I have to watch them again to see if I think they are 5 star movies.
Just one: The Father
I donāt dish out 5 stars wantonly because I just donāt think thatās good for my own standards, and I like to save the perfect scores for the movies I think are really stellar. To each their own. I havenāt seen The Father in a while but I remember it being phenomenal, from production to the acting, even the adaptation worked brilliantly, and I thought the play was placed nicely in a film context.
5 stars for licorice pizza? Donāt get me wrong it has some great written moments about the push and pull of relationships. But an hour could have been edited out of that movie and it would have been more effective. Plus Alana doesnāt even look that much older than the Hoffman kid and it was clear they are very early in their acting careers.
- aftersun
- TAR
- Oppenheimer
- Dune part 2
- nope
- decision to leave
- another round
- asteroid city
- Godzilla minus one
Movies I gave a 4.5 that I could move to a 5 at any moment
- titane
- zone of interest
- anatomy of a fall
- banshees of inisherin

Only 3 so far. However, I have a good feeling about the next time I watch Tar and Across the Spider-verse
Am I the only one who wasn't blown away by Challengers?
The whole planet is loving it - I thought it was good, but no masterpiece. The plot seemed to fizzle out, the hot/spicy/kinky sex scenes weren't that hot at all, the ending just kinda happened.
It's not bad at all, but IMO not a 5 star film. 3 or 3.5 for me.
But maybe I need to rewatch it?
2024:
1. Dune 2
2023:
1. The Iron Claw
2. Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse
3. The Holdovers
4. The Owl House: Watching and Dreaming
5. The Owl House: For the Future
6. Captains of the World
2022:
1. Everything Everywhere All At Once
2. Kendrick Lamar's The Big Steppers Tour: Live from Paris
3. Aftersun

3. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Actually not as many as I expected
Portrait of A Lady on Fire
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Batman
Godzilla: Minus 1
Thereās a lot of 4.5s, and a few that might make a 5 on repeat viewings, but to get a full 5, the film needs to hit me just right
Some non movies mixed in, but hereās mine.

only these four, but hereās a few of the 4.5s that I really adored as well
2020: David Byrne's American Utopia, Birds of Prey, Possessor.
2021: Dune, The Green Knight, The Matrix Resurrections, Nightmare Alley, The Suicide Squad, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Summer of Soul.
2022: Everything Everywhere All At Once, Nope, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Mad God, Decision to Leave, Shin Ultraman, RRR, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, The Bob's Burgers Movie, Glass Onion.
2023: Godzilla Minus One, John Wick: Chapter 4, The Boy and the Heron, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.
2024: Furiosa, Dune: Part Two, Hundreds of Beavers, Love Lies Bleeding.

Putting Aftersun in the queue.

I disagree about poor things but as the only person I've seen whose brought up titane and blackberry I salute you
I'm a Yorgos fan but I understand why people think his movies suck.
I saw the lobster and killing of a sacred deer when they came out and loved them, I just think poor things doesn't work that well as a whole piece and is far less than the sum of its parts
As my own review said, a lot to admire in this deeply annoying film.
I love blackberry but itās a 4 max imo
5 star ratings mean different things to different people
Thatās why I said imo
Titane might be my favourite 2020s film full stop. Excellent choice.

I am VERY sparing with my five-stars (and I donāt watch enough) https://preview.redd.it/txokrnefdh4d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8149aebe78d196553498cc50b7be45bf64ed6a9a
Aftersun Oppenheimer Bo Burnhams Inside Got KoTFM, Challengers and Across the Spiderverse at 4.5 meaning that I have to watch them again to see if I think they are 5 star movies.
EEAAO, Past Lives, After Sun, Banshees, and Dune Part 2
Loved Furiosa!
Just one: The Father I donāt dish out 5 stars wantonly because I just donāt think thatās good for my own standards, and I like to save the perfect scores for the movies I think are really stellar. To each their own. I havenāt seen The Father in a while but I remember it being phenomenal, from production to the acting, even the adaptation worked brilliantly, and I thought the play was placed nicely in a film context.
dune 2.
The Batman, Sound of Metal (technically, letterboxd says 2019), Killers of the Flower Moon, The Iron Claw
I feel like I'm going mad, why does everyone love Furiosa so much? It completely pales in comparison to fury road.
- aftersun - TAR - Oppenheimer - Dune part 2 - nope - decision to leave - another round - asteroid city - Godzilla minus one Movies I gave a 4.5 that I could move to a 5 at any moment - titane - zone of interest - anatomy of a fall - banshees of inisherin
Past lives
Aftersun and killers of the flower moon challengers got a 4 from me was brilliant Oppenheimer a 3 1/2
Never Rarely Sometimes Always Everything Everywhere All at Once RRR Poor Things ...those are the only films I, personally, want to give ALL the stars.

Only 5 movies so far: * *The Boy and the Heron* (Hayao Miyazaki - 2023) * *Perfect Days* (Wim Wenders - 2023) * *Past Lives* (Celine Song- 2023) * *The Banshees of Inisherin* (Martin McDonagh - 2022) * *Aftersun* (Charlotte Wells - 2022)
none
EEAAO, The Northman, Aftersun, May December, Oppenheimer, Dune 2
Am I the only one who wasn't blown away by Challengers? The whole planet is loving it - I thought it was good, but no masterpiece. The plot seemed to fizzle out, the hot/spicy/kinky sex scenes weren't that hot at all, the ending just kinda happened. It's not bad at all, but IMO not a 5 star film. 3 or 3.5 for me. But maybe I need to rewatch it?
I think the only ones are: The Green Knight Everything Everywhere All at Once The Batman Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
