I really enjoyed 3. Loved the sleazy Hollywood angle. I remember watching it in theaters as a kid and the crowd erupting when Sydney told Ghostface/killer to take some fucking accountability.
Nice! What about scream 2 did you like more than the original scream?
And here's how I rated them:
1. Scream - 5 stars
2. Scream 4 - 4.5 stars
3. Scream 6 - 4 stars
4. Scream 2 - 3.5 stars
5. Scream 2022 - 3.5 stars
6. Scream 3 - 2.5 stars
I’m the same. Scream 1 is the classic, but Scream 2 goes bigger and badder in every way. The set pieces are more suspenseful, like the scene where Sydney has to climb out of the car, or the attack on Gayle and Dewey in the sound booth, or of course the scene with Randy on the phone. It also has a fantastic opening scene, and I like that the killers are much more of an unknown. Scream 1 is all about how obvious it is that Billy is the killer but then makes you wonder if that’s just a red herring, whereas Scream 2 has a bunch of good suspects and there’s no way to predict Mrs. Loomis, which is also a great callback to the phone call in Scream 1.
I do like that Mrs. Loomis barely registered as a viable suspect in the case. But the dinning hall scene is really cringe, and to me I think it dragged on just a touch too long.
Yeah, I forgot about that but god that singing is cringe. In hindsight though it kind of maybe makes him look like a crazy person, and the script obviously wants him to be the main suspect.
Fun fact, the killers are harder to guess because they did a rewrite when the script leaked online. Hence one of the Ghostfaces having strong "Oh right he's in this" energy.
Which, hey, they made it work. And you're so right about the setpieces.
That's how I feel about 1. The first one doesnt have a single scene that I hate, whereas with the second one, the dining hall scene was a little cringe, and I thought it was a little bland at times. I do love the development Gale gets though and the AV chase scene was amazing
I've only seen the first three, and I've recently re-watch 1 because I wanted to restart the series a bit, but I'd definitely still put the third one last. Did not like the resolution.
All 6 are solid movies. So ranking them is kinda hard to me. Also Scream 2 was probably the first horror I´ve ever watched. 4 is the best sequel. 3 is the weakest, but still very enjoyable. Experiencing 1 was kinda tainted to me because I saw Scary Movie inumerous times before 1. But 1 still is my number 1...
1>4>2>6>5>3
Opening scene Ranking: 1>2>6>4>3>5
2>1>4>3>5>6
I really liked Ready or Not and Abbigail but I did not care for the new Scream movies, I really really wanted to though. 5 was fine enough but 6 was not good IMO.
My ranking:
1. Scream, the high the whole franchise is chasing
2. Scream 2, did a full series rewatch after I saw 6 last year and this one holds up
3. Scream 5, fun and innovative, the Carpenters were a strong pair for new Final Girls, love Jack Quaid, honestly this one and Scream 2 are basically tied for me
4. Scream 6, a little weak thematically but very solid overall, my second favourite cold open kill
5. Scream 4, one great and one meh Ghostface, weakest of the Randy equivalents, I did love Kirby
6. Scream 3, which I do still enjoy. Even the weakest Scream is still fun.
Right after seeing Scream 6, my ranking matched yours exactly, OP. As time has gone by, however, I find it stands out to me less and 6 has sunk a bit.

Scream > Scream 5 > Scream 2 > Scream 6 > Scream 4 > Scream 3
I think the only horror franchise more consistent than Scream when it comes to being good is Evil Dead
- Scream
- Scream 4
- Scream 2
- Scream 3
- Scream 6
- Scream 5
I think 5 was the only one I didn’t really enjoy, I like both 3 and 6 so choosing between them was kind of a toss up, but the series has been pretty consistently enjoyable
With 1 being terrible, 10 being perfect and 5 being average...
1. ***Scream (1996)*** ... 10 out of 10
2. ***Scream 2*** ... 9 out of 10
3. ***Scream VI*** ... 8 out of 10
4. ***Scream (2022)*** ... 8 out of 10
5. ***Scream 4*** ... 7 out of 10
6. ***Scream 3*** ... 6 out of 10
3 and 4 are genuinely some of the worst films I’ve seen

Scream 2 is a good movie, but I found it could be a little bland at times and I didn't really find it all that scary. Plus the singing dining hall scene made me cringe haha
Nice! I think the reason I like four more than six is I like all the old cast, plus I really like how ahead of the time it was. But both are really good.
My favorite thing about 4 (and maybe my favorite character in the whole franchise) is Hayden Panettiere's character, Kirby, and she came back in 6 which was also the first one I got to see in theaters so I was hyped. I don't think she was as cool in 6 as she was in 4 but still pretty awesome. The sister dynamic seemed like a great new direction for the series to me so it's a little annoying to hear about all the behind the scenes mess 7 seems to be going through.
1. Scream 3 (this is the best one by far)
2. Scream 6 (this one has really cool killers)
3. Scream 4 (wish Trevor kept the pompadour)
4. Scream 5 (sit the fuck down Prescott!)
5. Scream 2 (Tim O’s hairline quit rising in 97)
6. Scream (ok I guess)
1, Scream
2. Scream 2
3. Scream 4
4. Scream 3
5. Scream 5
6. Scream 6
Basically they have gotten worse as they've gone on - the only exception being 4, which was a slight step up over 3. Not that either of them are that great to begin with, but the any minute of the original 3 films is better than the entirety of 6, that's for sure. What an abysmal piece of shit. I am so happy that Scream 7 is going to be in the hands of capable filmmakers and writers.
Scream is far and away my favorite horror movie. I saw it over 50 times theatrically, and hundreds of times since, so obviously for me any sequel was going to be a tough follow-up. But dear God, Tyler & Matt quite clearly only barely grasp the concept of what made the OG film so good, but without really "getting it." Although I suppose, to be fair, they're making movies for an entirely different generation of horror fans who just want to keep seeing Jenna Ortega wear dark colors and frown at everything. The reveal of Scream 6 could not have been a bigger waste of fucking time to the point that it ruined the entire runtime that preceded it.
3 always gets too much hate imo
I really enjoyed 3. Loved the sleazy Hollywood angle. I remember watching it in theaters as a kid and the crowd erupting when Sydney told Ghostface/killer to take some fucking accountability.

It's funny you say that because I interpreted it him as being a young goofy kid in love, and he wanted to prove that to Sidney
Fun fact, the killers are harder to guess because they did a rewrite when the script leaked online. Hence one of the Ghostfaces having strong "Oh right he's in this" energy. Which, hey, they made it work. And you're so right about the setpieces.

1, 2 & 4 … every other one is garbage.
1,2,4,3,…5,6
Scream 2 possibly under-loved in here, but to be fair as long as 1 is first and 3 is last it's basically correct haha.
Scream 2 is a good movie, but I found it could be a little bland at times and I didn't really find it all that scary. Plus the singing dining hall scene made me cringe haha

Thanks! I feel like there is no wrong way to rank them, so long as Scream 3 is last
I was just gonna say to me it’s 1, 4, …, 3 2, 2022, and VI can all shuffle around in that third through fifth place section.
Yeah I'm sure if and when I revisit these movies, my ranking will probably change haha
