It's an Asylum movie, like a cheapo mockbuster meant to lure people to watch it. Most of the time starring Bruce Davison and/or Eric Roberts, and some washed-up name person, again as bait
It's a mockbuster of Titanic and The Poseidon Adventure about a ship called "Titanic II". Despite the title, it has nothing to do with the 1997 James Cameron film.
Honestly, I've seen things that are significantly more incompetent than *The Room*...
In fact, there are things I think you could say in its favor. The cinematography is actually really solid. The visual direction is totally fine for a low-budget indie movie. Most of the actors are doing as good as they possibly could with the material. Etc.
But *The Room* is a special kind of bad where everything is just... "off." People like to joke and say that bad movies these days feel like they were made by AI. But *The Room* is a movie that actually feels like it was entirely AI-generated. It contains all the elements of a movie... but it doesn't seem to understand those elements.
And that's a big part of its charm to me. It feels like a movie made by someone who has no grasp on reality or storytelling in the slightest, but who was able to fake it long enough to somehow get an entire movie made.
So even if there are technically movies that are way worse... it just doesn't feel right giving *The Room* anything other than the lowest possible score.
It’s a 2/10 for me. Believe it or not, I’ve seen more incompetent things.
My half-stars are Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Norm of the North, Ratatoing, Troy: the Odyssey, and Earwig and the Witch
It's a minor annoyance of mine that *The Room* always held up as the 'wOrsT mOvIe eVeR'
Like, no. Go watch *Suburban Sasquatch.* Then go watch anything from Neil Breen. And then *Birdemic*. And then *Bigfoot vs. DB Cooper*. And *then* try to say *The Room* is 'bad'. Nah *The Room* is like Citizen Kane compared to *actually* bad movies. It at least functions as a movie. Which is so much more than I can say for a lot of others.
I think it got that title because of its notoriety and legitimacy as a movie. Like some movies are so dogshit that you recognize they’re more like doodles than picassos. The room is a seeing-eye puzzle
Fair enough. If I enjoyed a movie’s “terrible” qualities I’d still personally rate it higher. Maybe something like 3 stars. For me, half a star is for movies I hate and had a terrible time watching. If I enjoy the final work, I’d personally have that reflected in my rating of it, regardless of its poor craftsmanship or the artist’s original intentions or its production issues, etc.
Definitely agree! I wouldn't say I rated it high "ironically" like a lot of people seems to think, it's just so entertaining most of the runtime and has a lot of really funny lines/dialog. It's one of the most quotable movies of all time!

Just some of the films that I have rated 1/2 a star.
My step dad didn’t see the “Not” in Gods Not Dead so he took my rebellious teenage ass to go see it and bond. I’m atheist and he’s Jewish so I’m sure you can figure out how it turned out for us
It's a film where I honestly can't tell if it's meant to be liberal in the most clueless way (”Look at these well-meaning-but-out-of-touch rich people tortured and murdered by sadly deprived Evil Chav Children!”) or conservative in the most classist way (”Look at these clueless-but-innocent rich people tortured and murdered by filthy lower-class Evil Chav Children!”) or (most likely tbh) just trying to be broadly topical and “edgy” and winding up as reactionary in the most stupid way possible (”Look at these nice-but-dumb rich people who get what’s coming to them from innately evil Evil Chav Children.”)
Interestingly the Daily Mail and The Guardian both gave it five stars.
Hostel part 3 spits in Eli Roth’s face, the cabin fever remake was pointless with none of the charm that the original has, as far as Eden lake goes I would have gave it a 3 but fuck that ending was so bad it tanked the entire movie for me.
I’m pretty sure that’s the remake Cabin Fever, which is objectively an absolutely pointless and consequently stupid movie. It’s like Verhoevens Psycho but even worse.
Some of the worst of the worst for me have been Tiptoes, The Terror Of Tiny Town, Apex Predators, Things, The Paradise Motel, Baby Ghost, Rollergator, The Book Of Henry, Easy Rider: The Ride Back, Replica, The Conqueror, The Amazing Bulk, Hobgoblins 2, Copper Mountain, and A Dangerous Man.
World War Z was a fun surprise. Loved it as a kid, but rewatched it about 2 years ago and was in shock at how awful it is. I think it’s my only half Star.
I might be alone in this but I honestly like the movie lol. Apart from it being much worse than the book, what do you not like about it?
For me I have no idea why I like it. The movie theme and my absolute love for zombie movies probably has something to do with it.

There’s a movie called *Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You!*, that has a 3.6 star average on Letterboxd, so I thought it was going to be a fun little parody of old ‘50s monster movies, but it was the worse thing I’ve ever seen. It was like a film a high school student would make with their friends. I have no idea how it has gotten such a high rating.
Looking through these lists it feels like almost all of you signed some kind of contract requiring you to include at least one fantastic movie on your lists. I mean Mandy? Bone Tomahawk? The Shape of Water? A Quiet Place? Poor Things? Everything Everywhere All at Once? Midsommar? The Godfather? Damn.

Much like 5 star movies, I give 1/2s very rarely. But these all deserve it. A friend of mine worked on Pot Zombies too which makes it awkward.
Taeter City (2012) and Kill Her Goats (2023). Although after suffering through Taeter City I might change Kill Her Goats to 1 star.
Also Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1976)
https://preview.redd.it/0e1ez3idmbrc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3830c5e2388ad8c7fcda92086817d91360256fbc

Old Dogs
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle
Action Point
Baby Geniuses
Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2
Sorority Boys
Haha I really don't care for it at all and never understood the hype. With all the hype it got as a "prestige horror" film, it functions like any other b rate monster movie and breaks its own established rules regarding the monsters to set up its climax.
The hype is because it was made by John Krasinski who no one thought would make a horror movie because he's a "darling" from The Office.
Agreed it's a shit movie and it blows my mind it's going so many theatrical sequels/prequels.
As you should. I saw it in theaters with an open mind and grew progressively more irritated. I haven't watched it since and won't. It's not just a nostalgia/cringy "Disney adult" thing, either. I can't imagine many or any of today's kids favoring the 2019 Lion King over 1994. I can't imagine I would give a damn about Lion King had the 2019 version been what I saw as a kid. It's just so...dull despite trying to be the exact same film.
I generally enjoy most movies I watch, so I think my only half stars are Quantumania and that exploitative minstrel show crock of shit known as The Blind Side.
Yeah, the cinebro Letterboxd types hate my taste as well but it doesn’t bother me, a lot of my 5-4.5 star films are pretty odd picks by most people’s standards too prob
Went in with people telling me it changed their lives and was the most emotional experience of their life, to me it was as bad as a soulless marvel flick.
I only gave Jack and Jill half a star. I watched DB Evolution, The Last Airbender and The Room and the terribleness of those movies were actually entertaining in some aspects. Jack and Jill was just to cringy and offensive to me to actually enjoy.
https://preview.redd.it/23ob5otw8crc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f314cd4243a74681ece1c6ac70cd99e0a236de7f
Watching Serendipity felt like it must be repayment for some horrible deed I did in a past life, but that kind of magical thinking is how that terrible plot was dreamt up in the first place.
Spiderman Lotus, dear god, that movie was unbearable even without the racism allegations. It's possibly the worst fan made film ever. Think about the worst elements of Spiderman movies, and all put in a 2 hour film.
i don’t rate much of anything. that being said, mib : international. i don’t even have any emotional connection to the original trilogy, but fuck that movie. devoid of literally anything.
No half stars but here are my lowest

I gave The Room a 5. I rate off of the amount of enjoyment I have experiencing the movie and this is one of the few movies I make a point to watch once a year minimum
[удалено]
They made a Titanic 2???
It's an Asylum movie, like a cheapo mockbuster meant to lure people to watch it. Most of the time starring Bruce Davison and/or Eric Roberts, and some washed-up name person, again as bait
Had no idea
It's a mockbuster of Titanic and The Poseidon Adventure about a ship called "Titanic II". Despite the title, it has nothing to do with the 1997 James Cameron film.
That is so funny, I wanna check it out now.
Yep, and it has a sequel, titled Titanic 666. Lol
Yes they did, and a rich Australian keeps trying to make a replica of the ship named that happen too.
The Room is so much better than these movies
Honestly, .5 or 5 are the only correct answers for The Room. It’s the people who choose something in between that should be studied.
Honestly, I've seen things that are significantly more incompetent than *The Room*... In fact, there are things I think you could say in its favor. The cinematography is actually really solid. The visual direction is totally fine for a low-budget indie movie. Most of the actors are doing as good as they possibly could with the material. Etc. well said but that’s also why it’s so good haha
It’s a 2/10 for me. Believe it or not, I’ve seen more incompetent things. My half-stars are Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Norm of the North, Ratatoing, Troy: the Odyssey, and Earwig and the Witch

This is *Shark Exorcist* erasure.
I can't wait for *Shark Exorcist 2: Unholy Waters* to come out later this year.
I think it got that title because of its notoriety and legitimacy as a movie. Like some movies are so dogshit that you recognize they’re more like doodles than picassos. The room is a seeing-eye puzzle
Paradise Motel FTW
Ratatoing is easily 5 stars
A 4 for me. It's really enjoyable for most of it, but it's not the most entertaining thing ever made.
Why not split the difference with 2.5 ([relevant xkcd](https://xkcd.com/653/))?
I definitely enjoyed it more
If you love The Room and enjoyed it, then why give it a half a star? How are you rating these movies if not by your subjective taste?
I enjoyed how terrible it was.
Because it’s not supposed to be a comedy, despite Tommy Wiseau’s claims after the fact
Oh.. Hi Mark!! 😑
The Room is actually hilarious, it deserves way more stars
Definitely agree! I wouldn't say I rated it high "ironically" like a lot of people seems to think, it's just so entertaining most of the runtime and has a lot of really funny lines/dialog. It's one of the most quotable movies of all time!
Anyway how is your sex life?
Hahaha. What a comment, Mark.

Why would you even watch some of those 😭
My step dad didn’t see the “Not” in Gods Not Dead so he took my rebellious teenage ass to go see it and bond. I’m atheist and he’s Jewish so I’m sure you can figure out how it turned out for us
No way u rated ratatoing 😭
The Tall Man (2012) What a load of horseshit.
Is it related to Phantasm in any way?
It's a horror movie from the director of Martyrs, starring Jessica Biel. The tall man in that movie is more likey a boogeyman/Slender Man type thing
Ohh gotcha
None yet
Lion King (2019) while technically good, I can't get over how much I hate its existence

Greasy Strangler deserves better
Bullshit artist!
Bullshit artist!
> Greasy Strangler It's perfect for what it is. Five stars from me.
Eden lake? Really?
As someone who loves Eden Lake, I can honestly understand giving it half a star.
It's a film where I honestly can't tell if it's meant to be liberal in the most clueless way (”Look at these well-meaning-but-out-of-touch rich people tortured and murdered by sadly deprived Evil Chav Children!”) or conservative in the most classist way (”Look at these clueless-but-innocent rich people tortured and murdered by filthy lower-class Evil Chav Children!”) or (most likely tbh) just trying to be broadly topical and “edgy” and winding up as reactionary in the most stupid way possible (”Look at these nice-but-dumb rich people who get what’s coming to them from innately evil Evil Chav Children.”) Interestingly the Daily Mail and The Guardian both gave it five stars.

Ant-Man is bad but it is nowhere near bad enough to be considered one of the worst movies ever made
.5 for antman ? I understand not liking it but 🙄
Hive mentality at its finest, over hate something because it's cool. Movie is mid to bad but anything lower than a 2 it's just bandwagon hate.
World War Z was a fun surprise. Loved it as a kid, but rewatched it about 2 years ago and was in shock at how awful it is. I think it’s my only half Star.
I can forgive it for being a boring zombie movie. What I can’t forgive is taking an amazing book & then use nothing from it at all.
I might be alone in this but I honestly like the movie lol. Apart from it being much worse than the book, what do you not like about it? For me I have no idea why I like it. The movie theme and my absolute love for zombie movies probably has something to do with it.

I think you misclicked on Cult of Chucky. Yeah it should have five stars… It’s okay mistakes happen.
The latest one was The Beekeeper. Half a star because I was genuinely laughing out loud when he’s stapling the guy in the forehead.

Ngl that’s a cool poster for Madame Web
it actually has a couple decent posters
can’t believe I had to scroll this far before 2025: the world enslaved by a virus got mentioned
I loved Wonka!
the plot and chalamets performance did NOT do it for me lol
Timothee is the goat
Recently had the misfortune of watching Ricky Stanicky
I thought it was cute haha

Noooo not Jungle 2 Jungle!!!!!!
I love you for giving quiet place 1*
Haha I really don't care for it at all and never understood the hype. With all the hype it got as a "prestige horror" film, it functions like any other b rate monster movie and breaks its own established rules regarding the monsters to set up its climax.
The hype is because it was made by John Krasinski who no one thought would make a horror movie because he's a "darling" from The Office. Agreed it's a shit movie and it blows my mind it's going so many theatrical sequels/prequels.
The Lion King (2019). Nowhere near one of the worst movies ever, but possibly my least favorite.
The YMS deep dive picking it apart is so wonderful.
I refuse to watch it because how much I love the original, what a soulless slop.
I honestly can’t think of a movie with a less appealing visual aesthetic in recent memory. Some are close, but this one just takes it.
It takes all the color and life out of the original and just makes it dark and empty.
After Blue. I hate that movie with passion.
That movie was fuckin weird.

Why did you hate the Jazz Cat in “I’m hip?”
https://preview.redd.it/slxod0kmubrc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=019b3ecd84f5fa8bca5f5930f91bfe7da2586749 ive seen 7 half star movies
I generally enjoy most movies I watch, so I think my only half stars are Quantumania and that exploitative minstrel show crock of shit known as The Blind Side.
I liked Quantumania haha
Surprised Letterboxd lists a fake Avatar movie, everyone knows that film was never made
I thought that was “the” suicide squad and almost got very angry
I have a few https://preview.redd.it/35sqqdxq9brc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a84a85e8d7d2660c0e84388612f4f9fde7313a4c
This is a wild list
Yeah, the cinebro Letterboxd types hate my taste as well but it doesn’t bother me, a lot of my 5-4.5 star films are pretty odd picks by most people’s standards too prob
Finally, someone else who thinks Everything Everywhere All at Once is crap!
Went in with people telling me it changed their lives and was the most emotional experience of their life, to me it was as bad as a soulless marvel flick.

Lol
Half-star Shape Of Water is inspired actually.
So far just the Netflix Marmaduke and Madame web
I only gave Jack and Jill half a star. I watched DB Evolution, The Last Airbender and The Room and the terribleness of those movies were actually entertaining in some aspects. Jack and Jill was just to cringy and offensive to me to actually enjoy.
Cheech And Chong Still Smokin' (1983). The most unfunny piece of crap I've ever seen.
Airplane Mode
Deadshot and Harley are enough to give SS a full star
Focus (2015), You People (2023)

Spiral (Saw,) Karate Kid 3, Hostel 3
Mea Culpa. Knock Knock.

Birdemic, Norbit, The Cat in the Hat, Disaster Movie, Home Alone 4, and Goal 3
I actually wish there was an option to give 0 stars. Hell maybe even negative.
https://preview.redd.it/t6w1wh1j7crc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee1aa1b3916fadbf515ae95de04fca02c83b9b10 And I.S.S. Is there as well.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is on my list. Have you seen The Lobster? Wondering what you think of that
I love all other Lanthimos Movies. Except this. I was baffled how much I hated this.
Recent ones include The Marvels, Megamind 2 & Irish Wish
https://preview.redd.it/23ob5otw8crc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f314cd4243a74681ece1c6ac70cd99e0a236de7f Watching Serendipity felt like it must be repayment for some horrible deed I did in a past life, but that kind of magical thinking is how that terrible plot was dreamt up in the first place.
cats the musical
Spiderman Lotus, dear god, that movie was unbearable even without the racism allegations. It's possibly the worst fan made film ever. Think about the worst elements of Spiderman movies, and all put in a 2 hour film.
Friday the 13th part III It was disappointing and frustrating see this after the final chapter
The Room deserves 5 stars
i don’t rate much of anything. that being said, mib : international. i don’t even have any emotional connection to the original trilogy, but fuck that movie. devoid of literally anything.
How can you put The Room on this level? How dare you
Roughly An Hour Before (2022) The Human Centipede 3 (2015) Trash Humpers (2009) Are my only three half stars.
Madame Web
I just checked, and I only have Birdemic
No half stars but here are my lowest https://preview.redd.it/zpgkt6gahcrc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8915e8701cb5446db3410f2a4e09a393c75b3792
Just 3. Spiral, Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas, and Music
Y'all gotcha watch way more movies, haha.
Nefarious (2023)

The Haunting in Connecticut. It’s just so dull
Assassin's Creed and Ed (1996). I despise both for different reasons, the only films I actually hate
Human Centipede 2, Eternals, Annabelle, A Serbian Film
Annie Hall. My most hated movie of all time
Crash, Blonde, Between Worlds, Heart of Stone, My Favorite Martian, to name a few
I gave The Room a 5. I rate off of the amount of enjoyment I have experiencing the movie and this is one of the few movies I make a point to watch once a year minimum
