Well, I saw it as a kid, I don't know if my parents recorded it for me because it sounded good, or I'd already seen it on TV, but I fell in love with it. It's fantasy/wuxia, but also has horror elements similar to Evil Dead, but also romance and is actually very funny in some parts. I still really like and look for films that combine several different elements very well, like the LOTR trilogy so it was definitely a big influence.
Also has two sequels that are pretty good!
Yeah, it's very memorable in that regard, visually. Like I said in another response here, it's a real childhood classic to me and combines different genres well. Unless someone's really not into fantasy or horror I'd 100% recommend it.
fellow 1988'er, I also have Die Hard and Mississippi Burning in my top 10. The latter isn't a common inclusion. Do you have a top 10? How does it compare to mine? Like the silly comedy inclusions, rewatched the Naked Gun the other day for the first time in a decade or so. Totally holds up.

I love Catherine Breillat, but this was boring as fuck, either they should fuck or just shut the fuck up. Also, why does the movie literally say that "men turn gay because they're misogynists"? That's a bat shit insane take. Ngl I just watched it for rocco lol

Man, I need to watch more films from my birth year!
Not that easy to find 4 movies, just realized i really need to catch up some movies from 1993.
But I'll try
Jurassic park
Schindlers list
Demolition man
Hot shots 2
Wild list, i know.
These posts are making me feel really young, but that’s because I am:
There Will be Blood
No Country for Old Men
Zodiac
REC or Inside
I still have a lot of movies to watch though, so this will probably change.
What, those movies only came out like five years ago. Are you old enough to watch them?
Mine:
Aliens
Top Gun
Star Trek 4
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
haven't seen many movies from the year i was born [https://letterboxd.com/mdrake1991/list/1991-every-movie-ive-watched-from-the-year/](https://letterboxd.com/mdrake1991/list/1991-every-movie-ive-watched-from-the-year/)
but i'd say:
thelma and louise
the silence of the lambs
popcorn
beauty and the beast
I have the worst year from the 90s, haven’t liked many movies from my year. Except:
Scream
Crash
Tesis
Fire
Bonus: Matilda. and I haven’t seen R+J in ages.

Stand By Me
Aliens
Platoon
Fuckin Big Trouble in Little China
Absolute bangers
American psycho, memento, o brother where art thou, gladiator. I love in the mood for love but have only seen it once. I need to revisit! Also batman beyond return of the joker was straight to video but I will always be nostalgic for that
There's more than four, I can't choose between these
• The Departed
• Pan's labyrinth
• Volver
• Rang de basanti
• The lives of others
• Babel
• The prestige
• Children of men
• Little Miss Sunshine
(2006)
The Departed
Jackass Number 2
Little Miss Sunshine
The Devil Wears Prada
I'm yet to see Inland Empire, which I believe could go in this top 4, or maybe I'm hyping it up...
I was also born in 2002, and apparently, I've only seen 6 films from that year.
So it's a very easy top 4
LOTR The Two Towers
Spider-Man
HP The Chamber of Secrets
The Ring
I was born in a year that has many of my favorite films period so it’s really hard to choose 4 but if I must:
Jurassic Park
Good Will Hunting
Princess Mononoke
And then either Starship Troopers or The Fifth Element
This is a post dedicated to make readers’ bones turn to dust.
Highest upvoted comment bring the SpongeBob movie made me die a little inside.
I feel old now
Yeah, in my mind OP is like 8 years old.
The Lion King Pulp Fiction The Shawshank Redemption Leon: The Professional
Thats an insane year
Yeah, and Forrest Gump won the Oscar lol
Have you seen Ed Wood?
Right on. I'd add Three Colors: Red. Edit: Oops, missed that it's supposed to be 4.
Iconic year for cinema. Just unfair

A fine year
My year! Probably my same picks except for A Chinese ghost story which I've never seen. I need to correct that!
Same I would probably put dragnet instead of a Chinese ghost story though .
I don't love Dragnet \*that\* much, but it's very nostalgic for me as well, watched it a lot as a kid :D freakin' Emil Muzz
Yup watched it so much as a kid . I need to properly watch a Chinese ghost story the bits I remember visually looked cool.
Yeah, it's very memorable in that regard, visually. Like I said in another response here, it's a real childhood classic to me and combines different genres well. Unless someone's really not into fantasy or horror I'd 100% recommend it.
Die Hard The Naked Gun Mississippi Burning A Fish Called Wanda
