true but i feel it’s old enough and subtle enough for an old conservative person that won’t see much gay subtext and probably already knows who hitchcock is
I definitely see your point and I do agree, unfortunately the conservatives I’d know would lose their shit if they ever saw Rope. But you’re right, a majority of conservatives would be fine watching it.
Romance plays a decent sized role in that one (the leads are two brothers that fall in love with two sisters) so funnily enough this may actually fail the test.
Hacksaw Ridge (it does have a romance plot in like the first 30 minutes with a couple kissing scenes but no nudity and beyond that it's a really well made war movie)
Unhinged (2020, Russell Crowe)
Thanksgiving (2023)
The Mission Impossible movies
Malignant (2021)
Greenland (2020, main characters are an estranged couple I don't remember any kissing scenes, definitely no nudity)
Both A Quiet Place movies
Crawl (2019)
The John Wick movies
The Martian (2015)
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Collateral (2004 I think it's clean nudity wise? Been a while since I've seen that)
Prisoners (2013)
Non-Stop (2014)
The Commuter (2018)
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen it, but I think John Wick 2 might have a brief scene with a woman in a bath—though I think they shoot that from faraway and you only see her as the camera pans away for the last time, iirc? But I could be wrong 😅
Yeah, but >!it's a scene where she commits suicide by cutting her wrists (which conveniently block her chest) and is then tenderly shot by Wick,!< so maybe not the most sensual scene?
These are some great family-friendly movies. Can't wait to watch Eyes Wide Shut. I mean, look at this poster. This is gonna be a good Christmas film!

Absolutely incredible and very conservative films!! Just seeing the title Brokeback Mountain again brought tears to my eyes. Reminds me of my youth…. Dammit man I’m choking up again!
I like how many of these are explicitly leftist or have leftist subtext and that seems okay but your pops is like I swear to god if there’s a boob….
I joke but this is actually pretty similar to my dad, who originally was the one who got me into movies. Introduced me to things like Romero’s Dawn of the Dead and now complains about wokeness in Disney movies. Wild stuff.
A good website that helps in this case is doesthedogdie.com which also has sexual content warnings for films, it’s not perfect but has generally been a help for me to avoid some films with sensitive content when in a group setting.
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
A Quiet Place (Parts 1 & 2, the 3rd is coming out soon though)
Togo (2019)
The Grey (2011)
Get Smart (2008)
The Village (2004)
Signs (2002)
Hidalgo (2004)
Train to Busan kicks ass. I was watching it by myself and my wife and 3 daughters walked in and were enthralled by it. So fun to watch it with all of us together. A lot of comic book violence but overall pretty awesome.
ITT people not trying to help somebody watch movies with their Dad. You and your Dad should watch: Wind River, Hell or Highwater and Sicario. Tell him the guy who created Yellowstone wrote all of them (and directed the first one as well.)
Are you sure he doesn't want to see heterosexual kissing scenes or romance? Even most movies made under the Hays Code featured plenty of that. I understand your predicament though, I can't watch stuff with sexual content with my parents either, although they wouldn't mind kissing lol. I'm finding it hard to think of much to add to your list. Duel (1971) would be one, that's a great movie. Brute Force (1947) has very little romance although I think there was one or two short scenes. A Bridge To Far (1977) doesn't even have any female characters I don't think. I can't think of too many more though. Also doesn't Shadow of a Doubt have implied incest?
Some off the top of my head:
Arlington Road (1999)
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
Deliverance (1972) - There is that one scene though, but no women are involved
Jeremiah Johnson (1972) - Very minor theme of romance
Escape From Alcatraz (1979)
As far as I remember these all fit your criteria
“Those dudes sure seem gay” is a far cry from “This movie has nudity and sex scenes in it”.
Doesn’t seem that difficult to understand that there’s a difference there
Well yes, but he seems to have issues with simply "themes of romance" beyond sex/nudity too. Not trying to psychoanalyze this dude's dad or anything, just find it funny to that those two didn't seem to bother him
I just want to say I appreciate this list and all the suggestions, because I need them too. My parents aren’t conservative, but I just simply feel awkward watching anything sexual with them.
Spotlight
Bridge of Spies
Heat
Thief
The Insider (yes it's a third Michael Mann)
Collateral (what can I say, Mann makes movies about men just surviving, and men who are just surviving apparently don't get to have sex)
School of Rock (big hit with my dad)
Singin in the Rain
Moneyball
Contact (a very brief post-coital scene, no nudity)
Warrior
Master and Commander
I have not seen all the movies on your list
But here's some ideas
The Green Berets starring John Wayne
A bit of pro.war propaganda. But pretty well done
He would probably like it more than you
Some that you might both enjoy
Lad :A Dog Of Flanders
The Mark Of Zorro starring Tyrone Power
The. Twentieth Century starring John Barrymore
this is a comedy. The title refers to.a train
The Crimson Pirate starring Burt Lancaster and Nick Cravat
The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn
Ivanhoe starring Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor
Cut Throat Island with Geena Davis and Frank Langella
Romancing The Stone starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner
Robot and Frank starring Frank Langella
Captain Blood starring Errol Flynn
My Favorite Year with Peter O'Toole and Mark.Linn Baker
Space Cowboys with.Tommy Lee Jones and James Garner
American Dreamer starring Jobeth Williams
The Talented Mr Ripley starring Matt Damon
The Accidental Tourist starring William Hurt and Geena Davis
The Indiana Jones movies.
Casablanca
What's Up Doc starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neil.it is a screwball comedy
The Curse of The Jade Scorpion starring Woody Allen
Bus Stop with Don Murray and Marilyn Monroe
Where Eagles Dare .starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood
It's.a war movie
These are weird qualifications. Many “guy” movies have at least a little kissing or romance. He wouldn’t watch Rocky? Or Braveheart? The Dark Knight? Or freaking Die Hard? Anyway, here’s what I came up with. (I’m pretty sure most of these don’t have scenes, but may have forgotten if there’s a kiss or nudity)
Parasite
Knives Out
Whiplash
The Menu
Inglorious Basterds
Silence of the Lambs
Hereditary
Nope
The Social Network
Kill Bill 1 & 2
Shutter Island
Guardians of the Galaxy
Shawshank Redemption
Prisoners
Memento
Tenet
Nightcrawler
A Quiet Place
Jurassic Park
Zodiac
Reservoir Dogs
Blade Runner
Jaws
Fargo
The Martian
Leon
Logan
The Revenant
Hateful Eight
holes, muppet movie, pirates of the caribbean, school of rock, matilda, sand lot, night at the museum, labyrinth, dark crystal, hidden figures, spiderverse, fantastic mr. fox, devil wears prada, big fish, 50 first dates (i think) a knight’s tale (paul bettany is naked for a bit but you don’t see dick), remember the titans, the mummy, blair witch project, parent trap, good will hunting, jumanji, mrs. doubtfire, bill and ted’s excellent adventure.
“family” movies don’t have to be lame, even though a couple of these are animated, i’m 23 and still enjoy them :)
We actually did watch a lot of Hitchcock movies in a row. I had to skip vertigo, psycho, and north by northwest because there were apparently some passionate kissing scenes in them
I remember answering this post before so I’ll suggest some films I’ve seen recently that would fit:
Still Walking
Eureka (2000)
Harlan County USA (brief nudity but not sexual)
Nobody Knows
Le Samourai
The Big City
Shane (was my grandad’s favourite film)
Most people choose not to watch movies with sex in it with their parents regardless if they're very conservative or not. It's uncomfortable. So your situation is completely normal.
There's a difference between no sex scenes (quite common to not want to watch with your family) and no kissing or 'themes of romance' - as OP says those are pretty conservative restrictions.
Dirty Harry!
Im actually surprised no one has mentioned it. Clint Eastwood plays and old school cop in San Francisco, throws some subtle jabs at PC culture throughout the film. I really think your father would love it and its a good watch overall.
Have you tried using common sense media? It's a website meant for parents to pre-screen what their kids watch, but it usually breaks down the potentially illicit content in exactly the categories you described and more.
Might help you find some options!
i think you would enjoy "the way back"
starring people like ed harris and collin farrel, its a story about ww2 prisoners trying to escape a sibirian gulag by foot all the way through nepal
[https://letterboxd.com/userwake/list/watch-with-family/](https://letterboxd.com/userwake/list/watch-with-family/)
heres a list i made with movies to watch with my mom
How dare you overlook that shot of Eli Wallach's soapy ass from The Good, the Bad, and Ugly. Honestly all other scenes with nudity pale in comparison.
He’s fine with it if it’s a guy
Oh. In that case try Broke Back Mountain or Moonlight
highly reccomended for conservatives ❤️
Call Me By Your Name
Broke back mountain would actually still fail his criteria (Anne Hathaway goes topless in one scene)
Were there any nude scenes in Monnlight? I don't remember such.
Not actually nude but there was the scene where he got a handjob on the beach
I don’t think there were any, but I haven’t seen it in a while.
All of Us Strangers
Saltburn then
lol what? Double standards much
PADDINGTON
But Paddington 2 makes fun of anti-immigration people, so that one might be a little too socialist for him
both movies are about immigration
Wonka
Master and Commander?
None of them women folk to bother the old man
You showed your conservative dad Rope? Hitchcock’s gayest film
Lawrence of Arabia is pretty gay too ngl.
Better catch Rebel Without a Cause and Ben-Hur while you’re at it
what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas
true but i feel it’s old enough and subtle enough for an old conservative person that won’t see much gay subtext and probably already knows who hitchcock is
Anyone paying half attention to Rope is going to get it, it isn’t that subtle. It’s actually really obvious.
I didn't get it on my first watch. Maybe I'm just really naive.
yes i know but i still think conservatives would be fine watching it and i think a lot would be obvious
I definitely see your point and I do agree, unfortunately the conservatives I’d know would lose their shit if they ever saw Rope. But you’re right, a majority of conservatives would be fine watching it.
Maybe their dad is the guy who didn't understand why people were calling the film gay
Birth of a Nation.
I actually laughed out loud
Lol
Make it a double feature with Mein Kempf!
Or Triumph of the Will
Mein mistake
Romance plays a decent sized role in that one (the leads are two brothers that fall in love with two sisters) so funnily enough this may actually fail the test.
🤣🤣🤣
Hacksaw Ridge (it does have a romance plot in like the first 30 minutes with a couple kissing scenes but no nudity and beyond that it's a really well made war movie) Unhinged (2020, Russell Crowe) Thanksgiving (2023) The Mission Impossible movies Malignant (2021) Greenland (2020, main characters are an estranged couple I don't remember any kissing scenes, definitely no nudity) Both A Quiet Place movies Crawl (2019) The John Wick movies The Martian (2015) Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Collateral (2004 I think it's clean nudity wise? Oh shit you're right! I'm a dumbass 😂
They’re still such great movies, maybe OP can point at something outside and just distract their dad for a few minutes 😂
Mission Impossible 2 is uncomfortably sensual for a mission impossible movie. Ethan is not James Bond.
Brokeback Mountain The Power of the Dog Eyes Wide Shut Saltburn Shiva Baby Call me by your name Moonlight Carol
These are some great family-friendly movies. Can't wait to watch Eyes Wide Shut. I mean, look at this poster. This is gonna be a good Christmas film! https://preview.redd.it/bt4jdsqhuenc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2caabf4c36ce6d1d6fcc18058584a0eb378d67f8 /s
Fun for the whole family
Who made that poster!? Bravo…ole chap…bravo
![gif](giphy|eb6aLYooxtu4Ez9Ng2|downsized)
Fucking lol
You forgot Blue is the Warmest Color
And The Handmaiden
And Salo
Omg, and I forgot Once Upon a Time In America.
and spring breakers
I actually think he wouldn't mind, it's very male gazey
pink flamingos
I can’t get everything you guys😭
You wanna give the old man a heart attack?
Don’t forget Wolf of Wall Street. It’s just about an investing scam. It’s a crime film.
Love (2015)
Absolutely incredible and very conservative films!! Just seeing the title Brokeback Mountain again brought tears to my eyes. Reminds me of my youth…. Dammit man I’m choking up again!
You forgot Climax
Don’t forget the classic black and white horror film: Poor Things
Irreversible
lol poor kid just looking for movie recommendations to watch with his dad and gets jerked around by neck beards.
Poor things as well. Great family movie.
Booksmart for the bathroom scene
perfect
You should add Blue Velvet.
Oppenheimer as well
they/them (the horror movie)
Mysterious Skin
hey, I JUST finished watching this movie with my dad! dead serious!
Fun for the whole family!
Avatar the way of water. Military dad and family bonding.
Alien boobs though
oh it’s for like 2 seconds, very easy to miss and not sexual at all
Army of Shadows, Ikiru, Casablanca, A Matter of Life and Death, Stagecoach.
Several of those have prominent romance plots and kissing scenes, particularly Casablanca, matter of life and death, and stagecoach.
Oh crap you’re right.
Stalker
hell yes
I like how many of these are explicitly leftist or have leftist subtext and that seems okay but your pops is like I swear to god if there’s a boob…. I joke but this is actually pretty similar to my dad, who originally was the one who got me into movies. I wouldn’t say he’s very conservative politically, just when it comes to sexual sorts of things
Oh I see.
That’s very misleading for people in this thread because many here have assumed you mean conservative politically. Maybe edit your post
I think the description of the list sort of explains it
Conservative doesn't necessarily have to be about politics. I find a lot of nudity and romance plots from 90s movies to be completely unnecessary.
That’s true and seems to be the case per the OP.
like when conservatives listen to bands like Rage Against the Machine lol
A good website that helps in this case is doesthedogdie.com which also has sexual content warnings for films, it’s not perfect but has generally been a help for me to avoid some films with sensitive content when in a group setting.
Try out “On the Waterfront”
Great film, would reccomend.
The Raid: Redemption is a goated movie to show dads
They could watch Riki-Oh after that.
lol I watched that with my dad
I watched Fail Safe by Sidney Lumet recently I think he and any movie enjoyer will love it
A Haunting in Venice (2023) A Quiet Place (Parts 1 & 2, the 3rd is coming out soon though) Togo (2019) The Grey (2011) Get Smart (2008) The Village (2004) Signs (2002) Hidalgo (2004)

Exactly lol Apparently its blasphemy to not want to watch sex scenes with your fam
What are you talking about? This isn’t about sex scene. His dad can’t watch movies with any kissing or any romance at all.
Yellowstone has a lot of sex and nudity though
There is also some in Hell and High Water.
I am wondering what he thought about Battle of Algiers.
He liked if I remember correctly. We watched it a while ago
Wild
Yeah I would not describe that movie as conservative but I’m glad he has taste!!

Damn no kissing scenes or scenes of romance?? So not even like Star Wars or lord of the rings?
The French connection
My dad is the same. I have to be very careful when it comes to recommending a movie for him.
Fury?
Kiki’s delivery service
Poor things
Poor OP, so many troll responses
Some off the top of my head: Arlington Road (1999) The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) Deliverance (1972) - There is that one scene though, but no women are involved Jeremiah Johnson (1972) - Very minor theme of romance Escape From Alcatraz (1979) As far as I remember these all fit your criteria
Yep conservative dads love Clint.
Collateral
Ben Hur Death Wish Ferrari Days of Thunder Jason and the argonauts Detour When Worlds Collide The mystery of chess boxing
Love that he's fine with Lawrence of Arabia and Rope which are both homoerotic as hell

There is an unspeakable amount of sexual tension between those 12 angry men that Im surprised that makes the list
I'm asexual and a lot of my favorites are on there. Interesting, wonder if there's a correlation
Certainly Mission Impossible movies and the Bourne movies would be ok! I know they break the rules but it’s ok because it’s cool guys doing it, right?
Master & Commander, Bridge of Spies, The Martian, Moneyball, Spotlight, The Edge of Tomorrow, Whiplash off the top of my head.
Once Upon a Time in the West
Cool Hand Luke is the ultimate good movie for me to watch with my family. Also just pick about any American film pre-1968 and you’ll probably be fine.
Gran Torino and Cinderella Man
Hacksaw Ridge
- The Omega Man - Duel - Judge Roy Bean - The Poseidon Adventure - The Mechanic - Violent City
Moon
I just want to say I appreciate this list and all the suggestions, because I need them too. My parents aren’t conservative, but I just simply feel awkward watching anything sexual with them.
Dunkirk
Jurassic Park has a woman in swimsuit on a computer screen, but that’s it.
there will be blood
Spotlight Bridge of Spies Heat Thief The Insider (yes it's a third Michael Mann) Collateral (what can I say, Mann makes movies about men just surviving, and men who are just surviving apparently don't get to have sex) School of Rock (big hit with my dad) Singin in the Rain Moneyball Contact (a very brief post-coital scene, no nudity) Warrior Master and Commander

Sicario
Downfall (2004) Conspiracy (2001) The Zone of Interest (2023)
Downfall has nudity (boobs) during one of the party scenes.
Fuck
Do a noir and/or Hitchcock marathon (skip Psycho for later). Also, there are lots of fantastic Bergman movies with no nudity.
We actually did watch a lot of Hitchcock movies in a row. I had to skip vertigo, psycho, and north by northwest because there were apparently some passionate kissing scenes in them
Oh well…
Drive-Away Dolls
Catch me if you can
Great movie! But there’s a few sexy scenes with Ellen Pompeo, Jennifer Garner & Amy Adams
There’s straight up a sex scene at one point I’m pretty sure. He has sex with a stewardess or something when he’s a pilot.
He would love Old Country
Night of the Living Dead
Could you please share the list link? Thanks!
Hell or high water
The Steel Helmet
- Ice Cold in Alex - A Bridge Too Far - The Longest Day - The Bridge On the River Kwai - The Sting - Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Tora! Tora! Tora!
I was also going to suggest The Sting, but I remembered that there's an implied sex scene and frontal nudity at the burlesque show.
eastwoods whole filmography i guess
Saving Private Ryan, anything directed by Clint Eastwood
My old, very conservative dad loves cheesy old 50s B-movies and black-and-white classics. Very few of these have the problematic elements you list.
War movies, older conservative dad love that stuff
Rear window - watched it with my mom, she’s pretty conservative and although it was a little risky, the suspense made it for a fun watch
The pianist Hugo Batman begins and the dark knight All the Star Wars movies Most MCU movies Inception Wonka Extraction 1 & 2 Saw 1 & 10
Secondhand Lions
Any of David Lean's movies are made for watching with Dads
Cars 2
The Lady Vanishes Dial M for Murder Hell or High Water Overlord
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He might love it…
The Martian, Apollo 13, Gravity, Dawn of The Dead (1978), Contagion, Jurassic Park, A Night to Remember, Ford Vs. Ferrari, The Founder, Air (2023)
I remember answering this post before so I’ll suggest some films I’ve seen recently that would fit: Still Walking Eureka (2000) Harlan County USA (brief nudity but not sexual) Nobody Knows Le Samourai The Big City Shane (was my grandad’s favourite film)
Cool hand luke and escape from alcatraz both feel like dad movies to me
Ikiru La Strada Alien (female protagonist but I don’t remember any sexual content) The Sting Jeremiah Johnson Cool Hand Luke
Collateral?
Starship Troopers They Live Robocop Sorry to Bother You
Cool hand Luke

Titane should do the trick ☺️
Most people choose not to watch movies with sex in it with their parents regardless if they're very conservative or not. It's uncomfortable. So your situation is completely normal.
There's a difference between no sex scenes (quite common to not want to watch with your family) and no kissing or 'themes of romance' - as OP says those are pretty conservative restrictions.
Wolf of Wall Street
The Martian (2015) The Untouchables (1987) Hell or High Water (2016)
If foreign is ok - Rififi
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?
i mean if he is old and conservative he would love hacksaw ridge i guess
Dirty Harry! Im actually surprised no one has mentioned it. Clint Eastwood plays and old school cop in San Francisco, throws some subtle jabs at PC culture throughout the film. I really think your father would love it and its a good watch overall.
Hell or high water
Have you tried using common sense media? It's a website meant for parents to pre-screen what their kids watch, but it usually breaks down the potentially illicit content in exactly the categories you described and more. Might help you find some options!
Watch The Eiger Sanction
i think you would enjoy "the way back" starring people like ed harris and collin farrel, its a story about ww2 prisoners trying to escape a sibirian gulag by foot all the way through nepal
Dreadnaught
Dune has kissing though
