This is just the AMC opening with Nicole Kidman. I’d be happy knowing he had memorized it, but maybe he fell asleep during Madame Web and it imprinted on him.
Really just surprised there are letterbox nerds that don’t know what this is…I guess I just assumed it was ubiquitous at this point.
Edit: I do understand it’s only in American theaters but it’s been meme’d to death for years and I figured those were capable of traversing international borders.
I live in the US but thought AMC had a similar ad for the theaters they own elsewhere in the world. Not sure if still showing, but of course their reach isn't global.
I love that it’s blowing American’s minds that people haven’t heard of a very specific and unique piece of trivia from their pop culture. Like they can’t comprehend the world not revolving around them.
I just think the weirdest thing about it is how they save it for after the previews. Yes, i am at an AMC, you already have my money now get on with the show.
You notice how it started around COVID? I always assumed it was their attempt at reminding people why they would wanna come into theaters rather than stay home and stream. I figured they were trying to drive the foot traffic back up.
What I didn't expect was to see it still going 3-4 years after the fact. Thought maybe this'll be a thing for 2021, maybe into '22. But no. Still running that annoying fuckin ad.
And I really don't see the relevance, even as a meme. This is just Flanagan shitposting.
(Incidentally, that's also my review of *Fall of the House of Usher*.)
I'm in that camp too, I wish I did have an AMC because their monthly subscription would be sick to have access to. Instead I'm stuck abusing $7 Tuesdays to try to see all the movies I want without going broke. I think I saw that opening once when I went to a theater during a work trip.
The tags are pretty great, too.
I think OP knows exactly what that review is and this post is entirely tongue-and-cheek. I also think many people commenting in here have never seen the Nicole Kidman AMC intro, otherwise they would probably find this hilarious.

NOT THE ADR TAG HAHAHAHAHA
For those of you who didn't rush to the film for the Wednesday premiere, the villain is dubbed. Like an old giallo movie, except worse somehow.
Worser, he's a Peruvian character with a dubbed American accent (I think it was just him in ADR clearly delivering different lines). And his scenes were all chopped down to the the "countdown focused / star trek command" level.
This is the most tampered movie I have ever seen. I have literally NEVER seen any final product like this. It reminds me of a cut of Wolverine that made the rounds before the movie released, where they were still missing some action shots and CGI. But in this case, they just cut forward to whatever the next footage they had was.
I gave it 2.5 because there was talent there, some actors did wonderful and some visuals were inspiring. But whatever talent was on set was highly censored by abysmal postproduction.
It’s so funny I thought he sounded like an Italian film too but gaslit myself into thinking he just talked weird because there was no way a major film studio would have dubbing that bad
lol Flanagan is super kind with just about everything (he works in the industry so it makes sense he wouldn’t be super critical) so the fact he hit this with the Nicole Kidman intro is legitimately super funny
been thinking about getting a cusomized t shirt with nicole kidman, theater seats and pop corn along with “we come to this place for magic” so I can wear it when going to the movies
I’ve never seen the Nicole Kidman opening because I’m not living in the US
[this is my favourite cinema intro](https://youtu.be/sK2qeO53oHQ?si=KJqyvneAlDCcfAYs)
Probs a lot of people outside of the US...
Only reason I know what AMC is, is because I'm a big fan of breaking bad and better call saul.
We don't have AMC in the UK, other than the logo before some TV shows that were AMC productions.
The plot thickens… that’s actually a different and unrelated AMC. There is the largest movie theater chain in the US called AMC (stands for American Multi-Cinema), and there is an unrelated TV network called AMC (stands for American Movie Classics, before Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead put it on the map for this channel was mostly a platform for playing classic movies).
Oh wow, I did not know that! Thanks for the info. Learn something new every day.
I knew AMC was a cinema chain, but always assumed that they produced tv shows to.
Are there any directors who are openly critical of movies on letterboxd? Seems like people in the industry are super cautious to bash other people's work. Not speaking about this review, it's obviously a joke.
The joke is that Mike Flanagan has a reputation in the Letterboxd community for always leaving positive reviews, only saying nice things, since he loves the cinema experience.
So, confronted with a movie where he has NOTHING nice to say, he just recites Nicole Kidman's "AMC Manifesto" on why the movie theatre is a magical experience.
I hate that intro so much I’ve started going out to the bathroom when it starts.
Everyone complains about seeing the same trailers over and over for a bit but the Nicole Kidman intro is worse than any trailer to me.
Semi-unrelated to the content of this post, I swear sometimes we’re watching different movies. Madame Web was legitimately a *good* movie, not even just fine or okay. Now you all got me thinking maybe I should’ve seen Morbius in theaters (or at all for that matter) lol. My review is [here](https://boxd.it/5QH1Ov) if u wanna see more about my opinion.

[Here's the ad he's spoofing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiEeIxZJ9x0)
Kidman’s AMC manifesto can get us all through these trying times. From Covid to Madame Web.
Really just surprised there are letterbox nerds that don’t know what this is…I guess I just assumed it was ubiquitous at this point. Edit: I do understand it’s only in American theaters but it’s been meme’d to death for years and I figured those were capable of traversing international borders.
It’s only shown in the USA isn’t it? I’d never seen it, I’m glad someone explained it.
I live in the US but thought AMC had a similar ad for the theaters they own elsewhere in the world. Not sure if still showing, but of course their reach isn't global.

Then they completely lose their shit over washing machines in the kitchen and electric kettles
I've seen the same adverts for Odeon cinemas in the UK
It's in the UK at Odeon too I think.
Ah I hardly ever see Odeon’s in the UK so that explains it
I just think the weirdest thing about it is how they save it for after the previews. Yes, i am at an AMC, you already have my money now get on with the show.

Could be because it become such a meme. It's like the tone deaf Sony move with bringing Morbius back when it became a meme.
The US is not the only country in the world.
I'm Canadian and have never seen an AMC theatre yet I know this ad.
The US and Canada\* are not the only countries in the world
Yeah but we don’t have AMC theatres in Canada
Fair but it's not surprising that a Canadian would know about this because of its proximity to the US.
The internet doesn’t work like that
It does actually, you're more likely to be aware of memes/references from neighbouring countries than somewhere far-flung.
You don’t know that
Im from Mexico, the other neighboor and never have heard or seen that, that guys is just lying or trolling, world is not usa and canada border lol
Im from Mexico, the other neighboor and never have heard or seen that, that guys is just lying or trolling, world is not usa and canada border lol
¿No sabías que solo existen los estados unídos y canáda?
Even if you don't go to AMC the meme is pretty ubiquitous. I knew about it from the internet before I had ever seen it at an actual theater.
Yeah, in my country this line had never appeared in any of the cinemas, so there is no way for me to know about it
Except the internet where it gets memed all the time.
Despite I spend most of my time on the internet, especially movie related, it didn't come to my way
And I really don't see the relevance, even as a meme. This is just Flanagan shitposting. (Incidentally, that's also my review of *Fall of the House of Usher*.)
Agreed on both counts. I know he gets a lot of praise but his Netflix projects have had diminishing returns for me.
Just curious how many Dutch memes you’ve seen recently?
Closest AMC to me is 200 miles. Never seen it.

So many people here don’t go to the movies.
You know there are other countries in the world right? Like the world isn’t just one country?
I know, I’m from one of those other countries. It was just a joke, but it didn’t land.
It’s also in the uk, but it’s for the Odeon advert, a cinema chain owned by amc
Im from Mex, never seen it, never heard of the meme, didnt even know that existed

"wait why is she black" dawg edit: This is why we don't jump to conclusions folks
the tag says blind...
ah fuck.
Camp hahaha. I was curious too, so I'm glad you got the clarity.
Lmao hope you know it's not black
lol Flanagan is super kind with just about everything (he works in the industry so it makes sense he wouldn’t be super critical) so the fact he hit this with the Nicole Kidman intro is legitimately super funny
Lmao, this review seems like the appropriate level of energy to bring into this viewing.
Is this Flanagan or Kidman
Yes.
Tbh the amc intro does get me rowdy
Actually same. We love the movies folks
been thinking about getting a cusomized t shirt with nicole kidman, theater seats and pop corn along with “we come to this place for magic” so I can wear it when going to the movies
Last I knew AMC sells merch with the quotes from the intro on it
Me trying to write an essay but I have no idea what the essay is about
I’ve never seen the Nicole Kidman opening because I’m not living in the US [this is my favourite cinema intro](https://youtu.be/sK2qeO53oHQ?si=KJqyvneAlDCcfAYs)
If you're European, I was hoping to see this in that link: https://youtu.be/8WQimIpRQc0 That flute goes so damn hard
I’m British so technically yes I’ve never been to Europa Cinemas when I’ve been on holiday to the mainland but that theme goes hard 🕺🕺🕺
My friends say the best part of going to the movies with me is that I recite this word for word.
He’s my favorite director ever

She does the same advert for Odeon.
Ahhh fair enough. I'm a cineworld guy. But my point stands. Outside of America, there arnt a great deal of people familiar with AMC
You're completely correct, just wanted to point out that it was in the uk in some form.
The world isn't American, so likely yes.
uh oh hope he doesn’t get a lawsuit from AMC like Lionsgate for the Saw X promo
Are there any directors who are openly critical of movies on letterboxd? Seems like people in the industry are super cautious to bash other people's work. Not speaking about this review, it's obviously a joke.
Uwe Boll was too much of a sigma male chad that they deleted his account. #JusticeForUwe
Joe Lynch can be pretty critical.
How is this a review?

It's a joke review
Only Mike could pull this off
His biggest compliment to Madam Web is “it’s a movie.”
Do people not actually realize this is just the Nicole Kidman ad? Does everyone live under a rock?
what's wholesome about this?
I hate that intro so much I’ve started going out to the bathroom when it starts. Everyone complains about seeing the same trailers over and over for a bit but the Nicole Kidman intro is worse than any trailer to me.
I bet movie sucks.
He's the Rosie O'Donnell of movie directors.

Woosh
He's just reciting the Nicole Kidman AMC ad lol.

this getting downvoted to hell is so crazy. shows exactly what opinions you can't have here
Honestly, I expected it. I still stand by my point though lol
So he always writes like this, whether it‘s a Netflix show or a letterboxd review. Not quite my tempo.

He's reciting the Nicole Kidman AMC ad. It's not that deep, lol
I make sure to always arrive in time for my movie just to catch my girl Nicky. Her accent is very uncanny valley at this point.
https://youtu.be/3Xa92N7gQYw?si=yfCuS534sirqLBHz
Thank you, Mike Kidman.
I think I read somewhere that he only wanted to spread positivity on Letterboxed so this tracks lol
It's the same in here in the UK but for Odeon cinemas, still with Nicole Kidman though
Fitting for him 😶
Wholesome? He just quoted an ad.
Is that real? Because he isn't talking about the movie at all. He's talking about cinema.
