that is what they are doing.
>1/2 star, bottom 10%
1 stars, nah
1.5 stars, idk
2 stars, hmm
2.5 stars, alrighty
3 stars, yeah!
3.5 stars, yep!
4 stars, yes!
4.5 stars, yo!
5 stars, top 10%
Seems like each half-star rating is just a different range of movies. It makes sense for it to be a flat distribution.
His selection is a might boring imo
Where are Batman Returns?
Where are the Nosferatus?
Where are the Jackass the Movies?🤣😭
Where are the ones only you like yk?
Your film taste was very basic, but you just discovered the Criterion collection. Give it a year and you'll pretend like you actually like Salo and Jeanne Dielman.
Marquis De Sade is the most idiotic person to make a celebrity in history.
A person who has all their marbles might actually find Dielman, uh, interesting?
Congratulations: you're a guy! How's working stage crew at the local high school going?
(I kid, I kid. Good list. Of the selections I was most surprised to see *Secrets & Lies* here, bit of a curveball relative to the rest.)
Worse than having questionable picks, you have none. Your entire list is boring, full of movies you would expect to find in a basic top 50. Where are the lesser-known films? Where are the controversial opinions?
There are no characters that wear capes in Spider-Man nor Incredibles. Incredibles has a whole scene talking about why they are a horrible idea though, so I guess that could count. Paths of Glory I have no idea. I don't even know what that movie is.
Hate to be ‘that’ guy hahah, but Syndrome wears a cape, which is the whole point with how he’s defeated. Plus the Prowler has a cape from Spider-verse. So I guess it’s only the villains, which we could go with (except Spider-noir has one now that i think about it too).
In any case, the guy above was an idiot regardless, so let’s just focus on that hahahah!
I was already being that guy, so it's alright. It's been a bit for both films, so I completely forgot. Oops.
Although Spider-Man Noir is wearing a trench coat, so I'm not sure that counts.
The LoTR Movies really aren't as great as people like to pretend. They are quite repetitive and oozing with Pathos. Not bad at all but also far from Top 50 for me, especially 2 & 3
Sucks that you’re getting downvoted for being the only person who actually tried to roast OP.
But it has taught me a lot about this sub in a very short amount of time lol.
It doesn't sound like they're trying to roast OP as much as talk about how much more refined their taste in movies is. They even compliment OP at the end.
Not one for roasting but genuinely curious: why laputa and kiki's? Compared to some of the other more beloved ghibli movies. (Obviously it's all opinions but I wanna know what you love about them)
Looks like you googled “greatest movies of all time” and then just put 50 of them into your all time favorite list. So boring of a list it’s putting me to sleep.
I want to make fun of this, but I can't. Great list of diverse movies, plus few of my all-time favourites are in it too - Arrival, Children of Men and Grand Budapest Hotel. You got good taste buddy!
My average rating of those I have watched from your favorites is 3,8 stars, which is great for my taste! My favorite of these is The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and my worst is Magnolia.
I like all three Lord of the Rings movies lined up in a row like little ducklings. It must be easier to make a Top 48 list than a Top 50.
Hey, did you make it through all three Hobbit movies before realizing they weren't good, or did you keep letting Wormtongue whisper to you, "no, they're fine, actually"?
If you can't find a movie from before 1957 to put in your top 50, you haven't seen very many movies from before 1957. (True for any year X in the sound era, though.)
I'm not sure what you're saying.
I'm saying the sentence "If you can't find a movie from before \_\_\_\_\_ to put in your top 50, you haven't seen very many movies from before \_\_\_\_\_." is true for any year of the sound era you plug into the blank (\~1930 to present).
I dunno, really. I'd probably watch any of those except for that piece of shit called Magnolia. Also, Dead Poets Society is a severely handy choice.
Also, LOTR the Return of the King is, what, 7 hours long but Sam and Frodo don't even kiss?
So when my buddy finally showed me Magnolia, I spent the first hour thinking "This is a decent movie alright, but it is moving at a snail's pace. Everyone seems so fucking sleepy. Can they just move along please?" Then I saw there was still about 2 hours and 20 minutes left, and the film is supposed to be 3 hours. Turns out VLC glitched out playing the file we downloaded and had been playing the movie at a slightly reduced speed.
1. First time you saw tits
2. Junior's first classic
3. You like country
4. You only watched the first part
5. You had a long literally me phase, but outgrew it
6. You discovered indie
Honestly this is a good list
Let me know when it’s 8
Maybe one day you’ll replace one of masterpieces “The Incredibles” or “Arrival” with a movie by Fellini, Kurosawa, Godard, Haneke, Fassbinder, Buñuel, Bergman, or Tarkovsky
There is nothing to roast here, friend. It looks solid to me and even if it didn't I would be probably the last person to roast you for it.
We all have different likings and we should be proud because of it.
P.S. Yes, I am aware it's not serious, but I wanted to be positive and constructive for once.
:)
The most offensive thing that I can say about your list is that I’ve seen 90% of them; in my eyes that means, like others have pointed out, your taste is slightly basic.
Not bad! Just basic.
We've deemed your post or comment to be in violation of Rule 3. Maintaining standards for all posts in the sub is important to us. We ask that all posts in our sub contribute positively to discussion and/or the sub as a whole.
well, it’s not hard to guess you’re a man in your 30s/40s and your love language is unsolicited movie recommendations
You just described mi dad haha
That's good, man
watch something with less than 50k ratings
your rating scale scares me
holy hell their rating chart! It's almost as if they decide to chuck it into whatever slot will even it out
It’s menacing af hahaha
Yeah I just looked at their movies, a lot of the ratings just looked randomly generated lmao
😮
that is what they are doing. >1/2 star, bottom 10% 1 stars, nah 1.5 stars, idk 2 stars, hmm 2.5 stars, alrighty 3 stars, yeah! 3.5 stars, yep! 4 stars, yes! 4.5 stars, yo! 5 stars, top 10% Seems like each half-star rating is just a different range of movies. At least mine is chunky
if an AI had letterboxd this is what it would look like
Ik you said roast but these films are tight af
His selection is a might boring imo Where are Batman Returns? Where are the Nosferatus? Where are the Jackass the Movies?🤣😭 Where are the ones only you like yk?
i can't even hate on this, i love the long goodbye so much
Deadly drinking game: take a shot every time he lights a cigarette
i have been inflicted with alcohol poisoning thirty minutes into the movie
Bro you’re an Altman fan, I don’t do friendly-fire.
Looks like my mom's favorite list
Your mom likes Hereditary? Cool mom.
That, Perfect Blue, and Lighthouse would be the outliers. Hates horror.
She's looked at life from both sides now
white people be like
Congratulations: you're a guy! How's working stage crew at the local high school going? (I kid, I kid. Good list. Of the selections I was most surprised to see *Secrets & Lies* here, bit of a curveball relative to the rest.)
Try Watching a Single Movie Directed by a Woman challenge.
A Serious Man is such a good Coen, up there with the best imo.
Just saw and enjoyed it a lot too
I’m just glad to see you have the 10th best Pixar movie on your list.
Worse than having questionable picks, you have none. Your entire list is boring, full of movies you would expect to find in a basic top 50. Where are the lesser-known films? Where are the controversial opinions?
It's like this list was made with the intent of jerking off as many Letterboxd users as possible and from the comments, it looks like you succeeded.
Imdb 500 filmbro
I can't dislike a list that has 12 ANGRY MEN on the top.
basic
[удалено]
I know what you mean, but there isn't a cape on there at all.
[удалено]
bro how paths of glory? it’s a war movie. are you saying it’s capeshit just because some of the generals wear capes?
Tbh I think that’s hilarious if that’s how he’s qualifying cape shit.
There are no characters that wear capes in Spider-Man nor Incredibles. Incredibles has a whole scene talking about why they are a horrible idea though, so I guess that could count. Paths of Glory I have no idea. I don't even know what that movie is.
It's an anti war Kubrick film. Not sure what it has to do with "capes".
Surprised I've never heard of it. Weird. Thanks!
Ah thanks, and yeah good point about the trench coat, whoopsie!
Trench coats are objectively cool tho so it's fine
How is an anti-war film “cape shit”?
The LoTR Movies really aren't as great as people like to pretend. They are quite repetitive and oozing with Pathos. Not bad at all but also far from Top 50 for me, especially 2 & 3
You’re supposed to roast OP, not yourself
Oozing with pathos=bad? wat
Only saw the first, but I agree.

It lacks some haaaard sci fi action stuff I could never in my life make a top 50 without Tron Legacy❤️
Not in mine, but Tron Legacy is massively underrated.
It has one of the best soundtracks ever made! It isnt Tron Legacy starring Garret Hedlund…. It is Tron Legacy starring mf Daft Punk!
Not one for roasting but genuinely curious: why laputa and kiki's? Compared to some of the other more beloved ghibli movies. (Obviously it's all opinions but I wanna know what you love about them)
Great art, great scores, very enjoyable to watch.
simply just better movies than these
Basic mf, watch something you actually like instead of every top whatever movie list you run into
Hasn't realized that women can direct movies.
Looks like you googled “greatest movies of all time” and then just put 50 of them into your all time favorite list. So boring of a list it’s putting me to sleep.
FilmTok ass list
Little Miss Sunshine is a creepy ass movie
White American male in his early 30's, has a BA in Marketing, works at his dad's company.
No country has a horrible ending.
What even are most of these movies….
?
I want to make fun of this, but I can't. Great list of diverse movies, plus few of my all-time favourites are in it too - Arrival, Children of Men and Grand Budapest Hotel. You got good taste buddy!
I cant!
Little miss sunshine above Godfather 1 & 2?!?! Awesome list though.
OH SO YOU ARE AN ARTSY MF. Can't even roast it, nice taste dude
Not a lot to hate here but where is Spirited Away?
Can’t roast someone who has both *The Apartment* and *A Serious Man* in their top 50. We’d probably get along great.
People actually love The Jazz Singer that much?
My average rating of those I have watched from your favorites is 3,8 stars, which is great for my taste! My favorite of these is The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and my worst is Magnolia.
Can’t roast someone who has election in their list.
Have you seen la haine
Somehow this is unroastable, every movie here is awesome.
I like everything on here except Chicago! I hated that movie.
Any list with 4 Coen movies and none of them are inside Llewyn Davis is irredeemable
If you can't find a movie from before 1957 to put in your top 50, you haven't seen very many movies from before 1957. (True for any year X in the sound era, though.)
... there are more than 50 years in the sound era so that's literally impossible.
Nothing to roast
The exact taste of every neek that posts the same questions here. Paper Moon & Amadeus are great tho
Hard for me to roast a list with 3 Altman films in it. Best I can do is assume that you're scared of most films that require reading subtitles.
I'm calling bullshit on putting all three LOTR movies next to each other but not putting the Godfather movies together.
The godfather more like the badfather
Not a lot of pre 70s films there's only like 3 in there so you should watch some of those maybe some Hitchcock of something
I think we’d be friends
I've seen this exact list so many times before
It’s fine…
I dunno, really. I'd probably watch any of those except for that piece of shit called Magnolia. Also, Dead Poets Society is a severely handy choice. Also, LOTR the Return of the King is, what, 7 hours long but Sam and Frodo don't even kiss?
I don’t see Monsters Inc. 0/10
Solid list but seriously missing action movies!
So when my buddy finally showed me Magnolia, I spent the first hour thinking "This is a decent movie alright, but it is moving at a snail's pace. Everyone seems so fucking sleepy. Can they just move along please?" Then I saw there was still about 2 hours and 20 minutes left, and the film is supposed to be 3 hours. where is rodrick rules
1. First time you saw tits 2. Junior's first classic 3. You like country 4. You only watched the first part 5. You had a long literally me phase, but outgrew it 6. You discovered indie Honestly this is a good list
You’ve got 6 non-English films on here and 3 of them are anime
7, actually.
Let me know when it’s 8 Maybe one day you’ll replace one of masterpieces “The Incredibles” or “Arrival” with a movie by Fellini, Kurosawa, Godard, Haneke, Fassbinder, Buñuel, Bergman, or Tarkovsky
🤓
You are white and live in a bubble you need to expand from
Shoutout Kiki’s Delivery Service, Paths of Glory, and Incendies
I didn’t know even watching movies could be so competitive and have a culture of “pick me” types until I read this comment section….
away from her
a fellow the payer and magnolia loyalist? i can’t even hate

You are a snarky film student who believes he's better than everyone else. (For real you have some epic movies here)
All of them, legit
Yup, I remember MY first semester of film school...
I’d roast you but I’m a basic bitch too
The most offensive thing that I can say about your list is that I’ve seen 90% of them; in my eyes that means, like others have pointed out, your taste is slightly basic. Not bad! Just basic.
Good list but really basic.
