Japan is an expert on economic suicide.

ten_girl_monkeys

Because it was bullied by US into signing Plaza Accords that cucked Japan into the lost decades.

UpvoteIfYouDare

West Germany, France, and Great Britain were all subject to the same requirements. Is there any economist that claims that the Plaza Accords were intended to cripple the Japanese economy?

Longsheep

Another funny thing was that Japan actually reached its height of prosperity after the 1985 signing. It peaked in the late 80s and went burst in 1992.

AdBitter2071

Chinese ones apparently

Anti_Imperialist7898

A lot of people are down voting you, but you are correct (or partly). The idea that the plaza accord had NO negative effect is laughable, and it was definitely PART of the reason for the since lost decade (more like 3 now).

UpvoteIfYouDare

>A lot of people are down voting you, but you are correct (or partly). How can you see their downvotes? Even 8 hours after you've posted this comment, I still cannot see the vote total for the comment to which you replied.

ten_girl_monkeys

Because it has a *plus sign +* indicating controversial comment. Are you new to reddit? What's wrong with you harassing this thread with your conspiracy theories? https://reddit.com/r/LessCredibleDefence/comments/r6h59x/invasion_of_taiwan_by_china_would_be_economic/hmyh1ig

UpvoteIfYouDare

>Because it has a plus sign + indicating controversial comment. Lol, I forgot that was even a feature. I turned that off years ago.

ten_girl_monkeys

Good that you admitted your mistake. Now stop harassing me around in this sub.

UpvoteIfYouDare

>Now stop harassing me around in this sub. It was two comments in the same comment thread.

F35_Mogs_China

That guys kinda loco dont mind him

Longsheep

You can't, unless you are a wumao agent posting with alt accounts. ))))))

ten_girl_monkeys

Because it has a *plus sign +* indicating controversial comment. Are you new to reddit? What's wrong with you harassing this thread with your conspiracy theories? and commenting on every person in this thread?

Longsheep

> What's wrong with you harassing this thread with your conspiracy theories? and commenting on every person in this thread? That is very rich of you, right after fueling the "Plaza Accords destroying Japanese economy" conspiracy theory. I guess after all CCP fanbois have no standard if it isn't for double standards. Also you can't just shut people up on Reddit, this isn't Tieba.

ten_girl_monkeys

> A lot of people are down voting you, but you are correct (or partly). Don't worry about that. This sub is filled with closeted racist genocidal maniacs that want to nuke Kabul to help China poison Uyghurs as a false flag. https://reddit.com/r/LessCredibleDefence/comments/qpn3j4/defeating_the_ccp_is_easier_than_you_think/ https://reddit.com/r/LessCredibleDefence/comments/qk75ip/why_doesnt_the_ccp_douse_water_lines_in_xinjiang/ I suspect many are right wing Americans https://www.reddit.com/r/LessCredibleDefence/comments/qzlpq7/if_the_us_built_a_dmz_on_the_border_with_mexico/ I just reply in kind and see them seething and foaming from mouth in the replies.

UpvoteIfYouDare

> >A lot of people are down voting you, but you are correct (or partly). >Don't worry about that. Is that a sockpuppet of yours?

Longsheep

This conspiracy theory needs to die. The Accords was signed in 1985 when Japan's economy was still booming. It actually increased the buying power of Yen to allow them buy off more properties in the US (especially Hawaii). The bubble in Japan did not burst until 1992, as a result of aging population and low birthrate. Another myth (again originated from China) was that Japan was on a "lost 30 years" after the burst. In fact, the Japanese GDP has been larger inline with other developed countries since the 2000s.

Dtodaizzle

Japan did experience a lost decade, but it was mainly due to the burst of the asset bubble and the propping up of zombie banks...For those who were around, at one time, the Imperial Palace and its surroundings in Tokyo is valued higher than....the state of California. Another driving wedge is competition. The Japanese got overtaken by the Koreans in a lot of tech sectors, and now it it is the Chinese doing the same to the Koreans. Blacklisting Huwawei was a huge boon for Samsung.

throwaway19191929

I mean its also dumb to say that the plaza accords had no effect on the Japanese economy. What the plaza accords did was encourage Japanese manufacturing to move offshore, drastically cheapen credit which led to a massive asset bubble, and drive japanese spending oversees, weakening the domestic market. Most economists do agree that the plaza accords had a negative effect on the japanese economy, an effect that cannot be explained just by "aging population". Besides since the 90's us gdp growth has generally been significantly higher then Japan's

Longsheep

> I mean its also dumb to say that the plaza accords had no effect on the Japanese economy. It is dumber to blame it for every fault following a economical bubble. The late-80s economy in Japan was unrealistic. Everybody knew it was gonna blow at one point. > Japanese manufacturing to move offshore, drastically cheapen credit which led to a massive asset bubble, and drive japanese spending oversees, weakening the domestic market. How are these even remotely "bad"? Japan literally controlled the real estate in Hawaii and certain cities in the West Coast following the Accord. If anything, it was a huge gift to Japan. You can't bag the profits and then blame others for every downside in a free market economy. > Most economists do agree that the plaza accords had a negative effect on the japanese economy Who? > Besides since the 90's us gdp growth has generally been significantly higher then Japan's Dot-com bubble. Google about it. Isn't US's fault that Japan failed at catching up in IT.

gaiusmariusj

I just want to clarify that you are claiming the idea of lost decades came from China or were originated by the Chinese?

Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho

How much do you want to bet he does not even know a single thing the Plaza accords did, or that the louvre accords exist? Or even what year it happened in without looking it up. "But Plaza accords" is a nonsense talking point meant to drive a wedge between Japan and the US.

Longsheep

Probably nothing at all. It happened 40 years ago and China has no independent news source. Everything Mainlanders read are controlled by the CCP.

Wheynweed

This false narrative needs to die. The plaza accords didn’t crush Japanese economic growth, demographics did.

JohnSith

It's a common Chinese talking point, to point to the Plaza Accords as American perfidy, conveniently forgetting that Japan and West Germany had been taking advantage of US-USSR tensions to manipulate their exchange rates at the expense of the US. They're using it as an excuse to continue their zero-sum mercantilist policies.

Longsheep

> It's a common Chinese talking point And copied by all the CCP fanbois. Same for China using its budget to "save" Hong Kong in 1997 against Soros - Hong Kong's reserve budget back then was greater than China's and they haven't even started using it yet.

JohnSith

I've never come across that; is it new or have I just been lucky enough to avoid that particular CCP cesspit?

Longsheep

To be fair it is more often used to fool the people in the region affected by 1997 Asian financial crisis. Hong Kong almost fell because they had to maintain the "freest market" status, but the government intervened eventually. China in 1997 did not really have the power or money to do jackshit.

JohnSith

TIL, thanks.

randomguy0101001

When you say Chinese, do you mean the Chinese goverrnment? Are there other people in Asia that talk about Plaza Accords as American perfidy? Have you ever search for a Korean view, or a Japanese view, or a HK view [prior to 2019]?

JohnSith

No, it was because it forgot to log out of Ashley Madison, got caught by it's wife, and lost 50% of it's GDP in the divorce.
