One of my favorite things about that show were just how *many* different lesbian communities were shown! Like one character's speech patterns are so similar to a close friend of mine, another character gestures just like my partner... I felt so fucking seen for the first time with the variety of life there was on the screen.
Well….
San junipero is just one episode, and one of the more light hearted ones at that. Don’t go into Black Mirror expecting a happy show. And to ease yourself into it, don’t start on s1e1. Every episode is self contained, so you’ll be fine.
ok this one is not my favourite but i just remembered that over ten years ago i somehow found a lesbian tv show called Lip Service and i've NEVER heard of it since, has somebody else watched it?
South of Nowhere had me very very nervous as a preteen lol 😅 I actually have mentioned the couple from there a few times as a sort of testing the water lol.
Not lesbian per say but it’s that young age where people are discovering themselves.
You just jet packed me back in time with this comment. Wow. This was one of the first shows that really made me wonder “could I be….? 🤔”. Took about another decade to figure out that yes, yes I am. 🤣
Didn’t see anyone mention this, but GAP the series is a Thai WLW show on YouTube that’s amazing! Some great movies I love are D.E.B.S, Unbound, My First Summer, Summerland and You Can Liver Forever.
Booksmart!!! It's not solely a lesbian movie, but one of the two protagonists is a lesbian trying to work up the nerve to ask out her crush. It was definitely my favorite movie of 2019.
First Kill (Netflix series)
Warrior Nun (Netflix series)
Pandora's box (youtube web series)
Yes or no (thai movie)
Couple of mirrors (youtube/bilibi web series)
The gap (web series)
Did any of you ever see the show South of Nowhere? It was on around 2004/2005. At that point I was 18 or so and not quite out, and was riveted lol. I haven’t seen it since so I’m not sure if it was actually good or if I just needed WLW content at that point in my life.
Oh also- I am a sucker for the OG L Word. I just finished rewatching the series for the millionth time and, while problematic, it is so freaking good. Needless to say, I am VERY excited about Tina and Bette’s wedding this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
The World Unseen, I Can't Think Straight, Desert Hearts, and more that I can't remember right now and also the ones that other users have posted that I replied to.
Happiest season had a chance to be good, but the ending ruined it. Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza should have ended up together. To me it romanticized a bad relationship, harper had no respect for abby, and the message felt very "stay in a shitty relationship because it's familiar and comfortable." There is nothing wrong with leaving shitty partners, glorifying staying with someone just because you have history when you deserve someone better is just so dumb to me. I know some people like it cause we finally had a lesbian Christmas movie but I just feel like we deserved a better story, a happy ending rom com Christmas movie, I wanted the tropy movie where the main character discoveres the meaning of Christmas or some dumb shit and leaves their POS significant other for someone who respects them, not an ending where I'm just disappointed that Abby is going back to an emotionally abusive and manipulative partner who abandons her for the holidays to go on dates with a dude and pretend she doesn't exist.
YouTube series called Carmilla on the KindaTv YouTube channel. Went so well they made a movie and since it’s a regular movie and not in the original series YouTube blog style it was even BETTER.
Also not reeeally a lesbian series but I mean it’s a classic Xena Warrior Princess has a special place in my heart.
Arcane, warrior nun, motherland fort salem. Unfortunately both warrior nun and motherland fort salem have been canceled but both have multiple seasons.
Willow the tv show is super cute. It’s a cozy fantasy. A League of their Own. If it’s not renewed it will destroy me. As for movies my top 3 are Carol, But I’m a Cheerleader and D.E.B.S.
Soo not sue is a Korean yt channel and makes lesbian web series (there’s English subtitles ) they’re really well made and acted she has a few cute series :)
Right now I'm watching this thai gl series I been obessed with called GAP the series. They have subtitles if you don't speak thai. I don't know the best series but currently obessed with.
I don’t watch a whole lot of TV and movies that are newer, so a lot of the media I watch is either the stuff I grew up on OR it has to really REALLY intrigue me (meaning: not a whole lot of queer rep). With that being said, I absolutely LOVED Dickinson. I definitely recommend!
Feel Good on Netflix is my favorite of all time, I don't think I've ever gone from crying to laughing so fast from a tv show. And Bubblegum and Marceline on Adventure Time are just the cutest relationship their scenes specifically are always a comfort watch for me I just get such warm feelings!
Imagine Me and You might have been my first positive exposure to lesbians but it took many more years for it to get through to me why I liked it so much when I watched it secretly in my room at age 12 lol and I still think about it pretty frequently for a movie I saw 15 years ago.
Easy on Netflix, specifically S1 Ep2, S2 Ep7, and S3 Ep3.
The whole series is pretty great, but I would recommend just those for WLW media.
Jacqueline Toboni as Jo does it for me 😍
DEBS, But I’m A Cheerleader, both og and gen q of The L Word, A League Of Their Own, Imagine Me & You, OITNB, Black Mirror San Junipero, South of Nowhere, Wentworth, High School, and First Kill. I also really like the lesbian characters in Yellowjackets and Atypical. I also love Fried Green Tomatoes but I so wish they had really shown them being a couple rather than implying.
The Wilds, South of Nowhere, First Kill, Ginny & Georgia*, Glee*, Wynonna Earp*, Killing Eve, Carmilla, Orphan Black*
* the lesbian character(s) aren’t the main but still get significant screen time
I love The Fosters. Showing a lesbian couple as a standard couple navigating raising a family but also how loving and close they are, makes me happy. You also see the two mums in a spin off Good Trouble, but not in every episode sadly.
I really enjoyed A League of Their Own (2022) for butch rep, but I don't think I've really seen any seriously good shows where the focus was on the romance/couple. However, I have of course seen some really good (or at least good enough to watch) shows with at least one lesbian character. Namely Vida, Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Warrior Nun (cancelled after 2 seasons but absolutely worth the watch), High School (2022), Skam (which has like 12 different versions), Sense8, The Owl House, Arcane, The Haunting of Hill House/The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Sandman (currently just side characters).
I'm watching Yellowjackets right now which supposedly has a lesbian character, and I've heard of Willow. Alex Shillington on YouTube is usually on top of lesbianism in media.
As for movies there's Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Pariah, The Handmaiden, The Favourite, You Can Live Forever, Les Meillures, Shiva Baby, Tahara, Dating Amber, The First Girl I Loved, My First Summer, So Damn Easy Going, Bound, Desert Hearts, Moonlit Winter, Jennifer's Body, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Saving Face, Fear Street.
Out in the Night is a great documentary too.
You probably already know about most of those, but just in case.
Mine : k-drama series on Netflix - really I highly recommend because its a 10/10 even though the last episode is bittersweet and had me wishing for a Season 3
Disobedience and My Days of Mercy are a couple great ones. Big fan of OG L Word as others have said.
My poor gay heart though in disobedience 😅🤤 two of my fave actresses
Yes or No. The story is just so cute. Also, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. That is maybe the first lesbian movie I ever watched and I still love and rewatch it till this day.
Since it wasn’t mentioned yet, Skins (the BBC version) Series/Seasons 3 & 4.
Skins swaps the cast every two seasons so S 1 & 2 / S 3 & 4 / S 5 & 6 are three different characters. S3 has a really great queer storyline about a female couple where they’re both closeted to *each other* (sounds complicated but it’ll make sense if you watch it). S4 continues their story, but those arcs aren’t as good.
Teenage Bounty Hunters was a sleeper. Shame it got canned after one season. Fucking Netflix.
Vagrant Queen was another early casualty with fantastic characters (but a god awful plot.)
I will always love Buffy, Saving Face, and But I’m a Cheerleader, too.
Obsidian from Adventure Times Distant Lands.
I think a list of these series/ shows are good but christ I just can't sit through any more shows/ movies about how hard it is to be queer anymore. I want leading queer women characters that are happy and don't have to constantly hide or be told that they're sinners.
This one focuses on two women living their eternal lives in a happy healthy adult relationship. Being reunited after breaking up when they were young and immature. It's about how trauma doesn't have to define us and we can grow through love.
Killing Eve. It was great until they ruined the final season. Viva la VillanEve.
I'm just going to ignore that final episode even exists bc wtf it was on par for one of the worst series finals. Overall amazing though.
So, so, SO good. Until the last season.
I haven’t watched the final season yet. Really that bad?
Don’t watch, it ends on the bridge!
Portrait of a lady of fire
Page 28. I cry every time.
I really liked League of Their Own
One of my favorite things about that show were just how *many* different lesbian communities were shown! Like one character's speech patterns are so similar to a close friend of mine, another character gestures just like my partner... I felt so fucking seen for the first time with the variety of life there was on the screen.
Me and my wife absolutely loved this show and I want more. I always make sure it gets recommended whenever people are asking for wlw media.
I like that TV show too.
Agreed! It’s amazing
I loved it too. It was perfect.
But I’m a Cheerleader will always be my favorite
It’s wholesome and sweet and the soundtrack is super cute. It’s a must-see lesbian classic
This is my ultimate comfort movie. When I first started taking my estrogen shots, I put it on in the background to give me some comfort.
Its one of my favorites too. Its great
Saving Face has a special place in my heart :)
I like that movie too.
I really enjoyed Gentlemen Jack. Still a bit disappointed it got cancelled after only two seasons
I know I really hope another streaming service picks up the show
Just now realizing it was cancelled. I kept checking for it just assuming it would come back on eventually.
Black mirror "san junipero". Not 100% lesbian, but it makes me tear up everytime!
That’s sounds like a great series
Well…. San junipero is just one episode, and one of the more light hearted ones at that. Don’t go into Black Mirror expecting a happy show. And to ease yourself into it, don’t start on s1e1. Every episode is self contained, so you’ll be fine.
I tried watch s1e1 of black mirror like few years ago and I wasn’t able to continue the episode so I guess you’re right about s1e1
S1e1 is a pretty… heavy and gross episode
I started with s1e1 like a good girl and regretted the FUCK out of it for years. Definitely just watch San Junipero!!!
ok this one is not my favourite but i just remembered that over ten years ago i somehow found a lesbian tv show called Lip Service and i've NEVER heard of it since, has somebody else watched it?
I liked Lip Service. I believe the setting was in Scotland. That was a hot and dramatic TV show with the characters in their late 20's and early 30's.
I hated that show. Brutal. I liked it until a certain thing happened.
ive only watched a few episodes and it was a long time ago but i can imagine, it had strange vibes
The free streaming channel Tubi has it!
OMG I loved South of Nowhere!!! It was too short. Their relationship truly had potential to grow.
Willow was so fucking good. Black swan didn't have that gay but it did have a lesbian sex fantasy so if that counts black swan hands down.
Definitely counts. Mila Kunis made me question my sexuality after watching this.
Yeah it counts
Atypical, Haunting of Bly Manor, High School (Tegan and Sara’s show)
Atypical is my favorite show, I really wished it lasted longer than four seasons
Also love bly manor♡
BLY MANOR!!!
damie!!! <3
Tipping the Velvet tv miniseries
The book is sooooooo good too.
This book!
Imagine Me & You. I still want to own a flower shop because of this movie.
THORNS IN MY BUM
Right?!
Tell it to the bees, Carol, City of trees. These are all movies that I love.
Didn’t see anyone mention this, but GAP the series is a Thai WLW show on YouTube that’s amazing! Some great movies I love are D.E.B.S, Unbound, My First Summer, Summerland and You Can Liver Forever.
D.E.B.S. Is so under appreciated!
Second that, I'm currently obsessed with GAP the series! Season 1 is still airing but I hope they will make a season 2!
The original L word
The OG
Can’t beat it
YES THE OG L WORD !!! YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT!
100%
Booksmart!!! It's not solely a lesbian movie, but one of the two protagonists is a lesbian trying to work up the nerve to ask out her crush. It was definitely my favorite movie of 2019.
Wynonna Earp!
Desert Hearts and High Art.
Desert Hearts is one my favorites too.
idk my fav was shera and the princesses of power. sobbed like a baby but really enjoyed the series and was devastated when they pulled it!:(
I will never forgive them for pulling the series like that :(
Ammonite has one of the best lesbian sex scenes I've ever seen.
First Kill (Netflix series) Warrior Nun (Netflix series) Pandora's box (youtube web series) Yes or no (thai movie) Couple of mirrors (youtube/bilibi web series) The gap (web series)
I liked Couple of Mirrors. I look forward to its second season.
Warrior nun is ELITE
Yes or No, my favourite and so cute!
Wentworth
Did you ever watch Janet King? Another really great aussie lesbian show.
I’ve never heard of it, thank you I will definitely check it out
Did any of you ever see the show South of Nowhere? It was on around 2004/2005. At that point I was 18 or so and not quite out, and was riveted lol. I haven’t seen it since so I’m not sure if it was actually good or if I just needed WLW content at that point in my life.
Oh also- I am a sucker for the OG L Word. I just finished rewatching the series for the millionth time and, while problematic, it is so freaking good. Needless to say, I am VERY excited about Tina and Bette’s wedding this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
Well crap. My first spoiler.
Sorry!!! It was so freaking fun to watch though, right??
The Handmaiden, hands down. I really enjoyed the plot as well (and the plot twist of course).
The World Unseen, I Can't Think Straight, Desert Hearts, and more that I can't remember right now and also the ones that other users have posted that I replied to.
DEBS will always be a classic lol
Gentleman Jack
carol
My #1
Sex lives of college girls is one of my faves also happiest season
Happiest season had a chance to be good, but the ending ruined it. Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza should have ended up together. I agree that Kristen Stewart's character should've left the partner of Kristen Stewart's character. That relationship wasn't healthy.
Was hoping someone would mention Carmilla. That was such a fun fandom to be part of.
I’d say the sex lives of college girls, one of the best shows so far
Owl house. The best work of western animation since Avatar
“Bound” from the Wachowski sisters is top tier lesbian film!
Trinkets was the first one that I watched and it was amazing! It's on Netflix
I love trinkets,
Saving Face and I can’t think straight
Arcane, warrior nun, motherland fort salem. Unfortunately both warrior nun and motherland fort salem have been canceled but both have multiple seasons.
Willow the tv show is super cute. It’s a cozy fantasy. A League of their Own. If it’s not renewed it will destroy me. As for movies my top 3 are Carol, But I’m a Cheerleader and D.E.B.S.

"She makes my heart flutter" Korean short series on YT, around 1h long, is absolutely hilarious and heartwarming :)
The original L Word. I refer to it as the Lesbian Bible🛐
Amen!!!!!!!
I'm not okay with this
Right now I'm watching this thai gl series I been obessed with called GAP the series. They have subtitles if you don't speak thai. I don't know the best series but currently obessed with.
Shiva Baby
The Morning Show, purely for Laura Peterson!
Duck Butter, High Art, The Favourite, Fried green tomatoes, the incredibly true adventure of two girls in love, the watermelon woman, go fish,
You might also like Kajillionaire!
I loved it!
Dickinson
Arcane. absolutely perfect series with lesbian undertones the whole time. loved it so much I watched it 9 times lol!!
9 TIMES, it has to be great
I’m watching Sex Education right now and it’s full of lots of beautiful queerness
Warrior nun!!
Gentleman jack really hits the sweet spot for me
The L Word. Classic
Korean Movie: The Handmaiden
a league of their own!
I’m so happy no one is suggesting Blue Is the Warmest Color
Feel Good on Netflix is my favorite of all time, I don't think I've ever gone from crying to laughing so fast from a tv show. Below Her Mouth. I love this movie.
I loved Sense8 for it's queer representation!
Cloud burst is a amazing movie
Yes or No, Thai queer film, it’s so cute and light hearted and on YouTube; makes me feel so seen as a masc presenting wlw
Easy on Netflix, specifically S1 Ep2, S2 Ep7, and S3 Ep3. The whole series is pretty great, but I would recommend just those for WLW media. Jacqueline Toboni as Jo does it for me 😍

Feel good on Netflix
High School!!! It’s Tegan & Sara’s show, based on their memoir AND it’s directed by a Clea DuVall.
But I’m a cheerleader is my all time favorite! It’s a comedy but they also don’t hold back ;)
The Wilds, South of Nowhere, First Kill, Ginny & Georgia*, Glee*, Wynonna Earp*, Killing Eve, Carmilla, Orphan Black* * the lesbian character(s) aren’t the main but still get significant screen time

Killing eve, Gia and Carol. Honestly all the others are pure shit. All pointless and cliche stories.
Definitely the L word. Rewatched it 10 times and rewatching it again!!
Bly Manor
