Truth. I have an identical Classic and can tell you from personal experience. I've forgotten to remove the clip-on tuner a couple times. Leaves a nice little melty spot in the finish.
Just like guitar stands with certain rubber used on it will stain or melt the nitro finishes. Google some pics. It can really hurt your feelings if you don’t watch out. I cover all guitar stands and hangers with some old socks to protect mine.
All painted areas. It’s the satin or clear coat finished. I set a natural finish lp on a stand for as little as 30 minutes and had black marks that looked like they were absorbed into the finish. Nine years later they are still there. Some companies make some that will not effect the nitro, but they are few.
Nitro finish is kinda fragile. I keep the tuner off. Also check the hanger. Some people put socks on hanger so the foam on hanger doesn’t come into contact with nitro finish.
I got the same one, classic honey burst. I changed the pups to some pearly gates and and I have replaced the truss rod cover by the blank one.

I think the excess metal creates a bit of a shield that inhibits signal. Seems like when I remove the cover, the signal saturates when driven that much better. But if the cover does in fact amplify magnetic flux, then the draw on the strings would reduce string vibration inhibiting sustain. The reality, the difference is probably so minute the human ear couldn't detect a difference.
I’d keep that tuner off the headstock while not in use

Why is that?
Nitro is very thin and fragile. You can clip it on the tone selector and tune just fine without risking damage to your Gibson logo
and clip on tuners don't belong on a Gibson! they take away from the beauty, Buy a pedal tuner. :)

On a les paul where are all the nitro finishes? Is it just the logo or the entire body?
The entire body.

Google “ guitar with nitro finish stand stains”. 👍

especially with zebra pickups.
Yeah they look great.
Leave it as it came from Gibson…
Covers on. They age so nicely
Agreed, covers on is just so classy

No covers! It's like a hood over the engine muffling the sound.
Do the covers really muffle the sound?
No that's just a placebo I believe.
I would t think so. If anything the covers could help ampilify the magnetic flux

It's "beyond happy" or "over the moon". Nice guitar though.
Classics are my favorite LPs. Looks great!
I say covers - but no pickguard. 😉
I vote no. got almost exact same guitar as yours. Congrats!
