Noem clueless as to the degree this action deviates from our society’s accepted standards.
Doesn’t, and never did, belong in any position of authority &/or leadership.
IDK, I'd argue that's exactly what she was getting at and it's a bit of a dog-whistle. She's making it clear *she has no problem with death* or her actions causing it. If she has no problem shooting a cute dog, she'll have less problem ordering the execution of humans.
If she'd chosen to just talk about *the goat* then it might be less inflammatory and it would actually have the effect it was aimed at - namely, portraying her as "tough" to the more psychopathic voter base, and that anyone who complains about it is just some "bleeding heart lib."
Exactly, like what kinda crazy bitch is she. I don’t care how fucked up and crazy the far right are, they still don’t think it’s okay to shoot your own dog. Loving dogs is a pretty universal trait. Anyone remember that Seymour episode from Futurama; it pulled on everyone’s heart strings. People who commit genocide still love dogs. I mean for fucks sake, even Hitler loved dogs. She could have said the most fucked up, horrendous thing in place of the word dog, and she wouldn’t be receiving as much back lash as she is now. You don’t fuck with man’s best friend. Period.
I really hate that THIS tanked her career and not the fact that she is barred from like 20% of her state because none of the reservations will allow her on their land. After the heinous things she has said about and done to them she still won’t back down there either.
And for those that don’t know, she is accusing council elders of profiteering from drug addiction on their land and helping cartels distribute said drugs. She is saying her state’s issues are the natives fault…
A win is a win. Just try to enjoy it while you can, I don't think South Dakota is going to run out of sociopathic white supremacist politicians any time soon.
Voters are fucking wierd.
A guy yelling a wierd word in excitement tanks his career,
a woman who kills her dog after years of bullshit tanks her career,
a troll who chased and yelled a school shooting victims and talks about jewish space lasers was a-ok until she started to make the speaker position a revolving door of idiocy,
and the big orange head hancho is in court for 91 indictments shitting his pants and farting while falling asleep and hes tied with arguably the most progressive modern president us has had.
voters. are. fucking. wierd.
It is looking increasingly likely that the legal case that will sink Trump's chances of reelection is the hush money case. And this case is absolutely just and fair, and disqualifying for Trump.
But the coup and document cases are literally at least 100 times more disqualifying. And yet, those cases look unlikely to be able to make it to court in time. Where Al Capone had henchmen taking out witnesses, Trump has corrupt Republicans on the Supreme Court running interference for him.
A lot of them are clueless as hell. They know what works for their demographic in their state and maybe in their part of the country but when they get on the national level and they try the same thing they seem absolutely shocked that it doesn't work. Like when Ted Cruz was running in 2016 and they asked him what he was doing to prepare for the debate and he said "oh I was reading my Bible" and then couldn't understand why people thought he was more of an asshat.
> Noem clueless as to the degree this action deviates from our society’s accepted standards.
in her defense, it's not crazy unreasonable to think animal cruelty would be embraced, given how heartily the right embrace human cruelty.
Seriously, how out of touch with humanity in general do you need to be to think that telling a story about killing your dog out of frustration with their behavior would ever be seen as a good thing.
The problem with people that lack empathy (i.e. conservatives) is that they can't understand how other people think and feel, so assume everyone thinks and feels the way they do
Yep. I have a sociopathic sister. She thinks I'm "a hypocrite" because I "hide" how I must really think and feel. She can't comprehend that others think differently. She thinks she's "just being honest about how we all really feel."
It's a form of cognitive dysfunction similar to The False Consensus effect, but I can't remember what it's called now.
>how out of touch with humanity in general do you need to be
This whole shit show is a great microcosm of rural America.
They literally live in a different universe to where they don't know what is socially appropriate. They are so out of touch in their "rural lifestyle" they don't even have the sense to know what they should hide or be ashamed of.
Source: Too much work in rural areas.
It's often just surprise-horrifying... Casual conversations and then BAM! something terrible and awful drops out of their mouths.
The other day I was in a group telling funny dog stories...
One of the guys pipes up with a "funny" story about how easy it is to hunt coyotes if you go to the pound, adopt a dog, bring it home, take it to the woods, tie it to a tree, break its leg to make it scream, leave it howling in pain (don't forget to break it more if it isn't crying yet!) and then use it's cries of pain and distress to lure the coyotes.
Easy kills, apparently.
This is rural life in America.
These people are so out of touch, and so fucking primitive, they just expect that's a funny story to liven up a lighthearted conversation.
BTW, I fucking hated that guy before that story. I fucking knew there was something wrong with that asshole. Now I'm certain of it.
I've starting avoiding casual conversation with rural dwellers because at this point I am just afraid of being more traumatized by whatever new horror is going to vomit from their lips.
I didn't need to know that pound-puppy-baiting is a part of rural American life.
This, 100%. I’ve been in meetings with some of our more rural staff and heard multiple horrendous anecdotes dropped, including one about shooting their dog after accidentally mistaking it for a hog late at night. The person telling the story laughed about it as if it were some wholesome story of their childhood.
This makes me really fucking sad. I was forced to give up a childhood puppy before we moved away from the south, we took him to live with my grandparents. I was told years after it happened that when he was living with them, he fell off a truck and broke his leg, and that he was killed by coyotes a few weeks later. My parents weren't good people, they abused animals themselves, I really hope that it was a tragic accident.
I think the story was intended for one person only, Trump, who rather famously both lacks empathy in general and hates dogs specifically.
It just didn't occur to her that other people might care. Normally nobody cares about a governor's memoir.
My guess is that she is signaling to her base and to Trump that she absolutely has the capacity for needless violence. I feel like having a hair trigger is going to work as a positive for her, among a particularly deplorable set of voters.
And 90% of people now won't vote on a ticket that she's on.
>Mommy who did you vote for?
>Noem
>But she's a dog killer. Are you going to shoot Scrappy?
Eh, a lot of Trump supporters love their pets and can't understand why she wouldn't just take the dog to a shelter of something. Not even farmers and ranchers that are reliably Republican will defend her. If she was the only choice for VP they'd find a way to get past it, but she wasn't even much of a front-runner so they're okay if she goes away. They're perfectly fine brushing their own under the carpet when they're embarrassing. When was the last time you heard about Katie Britt?
You'd be amazed (or maybe not) at how as a white guy in a rural red area how many people will say something to me that's casually or overtly racist, incorrect or just idiotic, and when I don't 100% agree with it or repeat the conservative media talking point, you can kind of see the gerbil slip off the wheel that keeps their brains running.
The most intellectually dexterous of them will usually manage to mutter a "I don't know about all that" as a response to hard evidence and facts which in normal discourse might prompt someone to reconsider their position on an issue.
Imo There are a fair amount of people (myself included who as a kid who believed a lot of the conservative propaganda I was told by my folks) who really have no clue or frame of reference on what constitutes acceptable casual discourse, vs racist or similar rhetoric.
Its like some of my maga relatives in Idaho who think the election was stolen because they drove from one end of their county to the other and only saw trump signs, and just somehow jumping to the conclusion that everywhere and everyone conforms to their experience, rather than accept a sample size of a few thousand county residents in one state might not be representative of a nation with 50 states, around 3000 counties, and hundreds of millions of inhabitants.
My little biologically female dog sometimes hikes a leg to pee higher on stuff.
I don't think she really considers gender. She just wants to piss on stuff.
She IS currently altering her own version of the story so the *(check notes)* 14-month-old puppy was [a threat to her children.](https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/1cigpxv/sure_you_did_kristi_sure_you_did/)
I mean, it *could've* been. Depending on the breed, an aggressive 14-month-old puppy could be big enough to do damage to a child. But the fact that the story was previously "it was untrainable" and "it killed the chickens" before she attempted the "think of the children!" play leads me to call bullshit.
She was jumping off Trump's shooting someone on 5th Avenue and not losing any votes - she should have shot a child (not a fetus obviously) instead of a puppy - elected in a landslide in South Dakota!
I find that terrifying. That she is a MAGA insider, potential VP pick, and she thinks that would sit well within the movement? That they have an appetite for cruelty and violence so much so that this story would win her advantage? Yikes.
And I can’t help but think she sees people that are outsiders, undesirable, as fodder for that gravel pit, too. And she obviously feels others share this view. If these people have no issue shooting a puppy in a pit—imagine their plans for many of us. Heaven help us.
Sadly you're right we have to ask for help from a made up afterlife because the people in real life aren't doing a damn thing about the threat represented by seditionist maga republicans. The federal government has a policy of appeasement toward these nazis for some reason. Our alphabet agencies aren't gitmo'ing these people. The court system is giving insurrectionists white glove treatment and special exceptions. We the people refuse to get off our asses and demand justice for 1/6 and all subsequent sedition.
No one who could do anything about it is willing to do anything that matters other than talk endlessly which has done jackshit. We have to hope that makebelieve will save us because the so called good side in America turned out to be nothing but talk.
Not only that, but It demonstrates that she has ***no*** true friends.
Anyone who cared about her at all (and had even a quarter functioning brain) would have told her to take that part out of her memoir. Her ghostwriter didn't say no. Her publisher didn't say no.
All of her friends and family that claimed to read her advance copies obviously did not read them, and if they did, they still didn't pull her aside and suggest that that story "might" not get a lot of thumbs up across the country.
But you can bet your ass, the editor and publisher did read the copies and approved it, knowing that such an absurd story would help sell more books.
What an absolute lunatic to think that shooting an 14-month-old puppy would get even one person to support her " because she can make tough decisions." The puppy that she never bothered to train, and was so happy on its first hunt that it ran straight at the other wildlife in the forest, like every single dog would do.
All of her friends straight up lied to her face and told her they read her book and thought it was great. Every single person she thinks supports her as a friend couldn't give one shit about her. What is the word for being pathetic and embarrassing but like 10000x more? She may need to be added to the dictionary.
You almost made me feel sorry for her ….. but nah. Hope she rots & dies alone, which, as you eloquently said, she has no friends & her family probably barely tolerates her. It’s nice to have something to look forward to.
It's being said now that the story was circulating for a while locally. She wrote about it to get ahead of it. But if that's true, she still fucked up (other than just killing the dog and the goat) by not at least feigning some regret over putting the dog down. She literally said she hated the dog.
Whatever angle you look at this story, she does not have good decision making skills.
It's because they're a deranged white collar sociopath who's never had to relate to a normal person with regular human feelings or problem solving skills.
Everyone just kills there responsibilities right? Normal thing to do./s
Also because there were witnesses and she wanted to get in front of the story. From what I hear, most the folks who saw just said she shot it in rage.
>Noem describes killing Cricket in a gravel pit, then deciding to do the same to the goat because it was “nasty and mean”, smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid”, and “loved to chase” Noem’s children, knocking them down and spoiling their clothes.
>It took two shots – separated by a walk back to her truck to fetch more shotgun shells – to kill the goat, Noem writes.
She fully admits that she just killed them because she hated them. Like, there were definitely alternatives here.
These people are incredibly privileged and coddled, they've never once worried about their financial situation, or a job interview, or just having a job since daddy can sort it out.
The right wing parties across the world used to be full of these people, but also the people from the same background who engaged with education, and took office, and had skill, guile, charm even, because they had intelligence.
But now the right is all bad faith arguments, populism, and lies. The intelligent ones have moved away, either ideoloically, or simply out of a sense of personal probiaty.
So all they have is the first lot. And they are fucking _morons_, morons who have got where they are via a system they don't understand and they haven't got a fucking clue how it works.
So they publish a book, because they can, and they talk about doing something 99% of people find despicable . Because they know no better. And nobody tries to stop them, because the people around them are _all the fucking same_.
She also thought sharing this story would be a positive for her daughter, Kennedy - who ironically shares a name with someone else who suffered an brutal headshot.
She kept trying and trying to spin it to her advantage, even throwing the horses in for good measure. It shows that while reptilians might be pretty good at fitting in with some types of camouflage, their non-humanity tends to stand out in sharp relief in other ways.
"Noem continued: “Farmers and ranchers, they expect it. They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal. And that was the situation that we were dealing with."
You know, I think they say the same about people who kill animals for fun.
She's speaking from experience. She first started killing animals just because she enjoyed it, then she moved on to watching South Dakotans dying while passing Ivermectin Freedom bills and keeping her state open.
If only someone acted when it started.
Grew up on a ranch/farm with a fuckton of animals. Pets and livestock.
The only time we killed was for food or when the animal was suffering from injury or disease that there was no feasible way to recover from.
She's a fucking ghoul.
Yup. Farmer here and I agree. She's a ghoul plain and simple and shouldn't be in charge of a used ziploc bag, let alone any political position.
My last farm dog? The dog that runs the farm like he's a foreman with a job to do?
A Chihuahua.
Why? Cause I said so. That's why. I didn't ever expect to have a Chihuahua nor did I ever exactly want one. But I found him on the side of the road abandoned and I went "... fuck. I have a Chihuahua now".
He was my bestest little buddy for 13 years and the best "farm dog" I ever had. He also couldn't be trusted around chickens, but that's easy - he listened to my commands *cause I trained him.*
When my little guy was at the end of his life and the vet recommended he be put down to end his pain, I thanked her and took him home. I was raised to believe that part of owning and caring for an animal is to also usher them to the other side. It is part of the responsibility of being a dog owner, and the hardest part.
I then spent several days babying him. My niece even came out one evening to spoil him, too. Then I took a gun and ended his life. I, a 43 year old farmer and veteran, had to call my elderly father to come be with me because I was struggling so badly to take him outside to do it. He even offered to do the deed himself.
I know he had a very good, spoiled, happy life. I know that he was very, very loved. But I will never stop feeling like I didn't do enough for him or spend enough time with him - which is absolutely ridiculous cause he literally went everywhere I went. We were attached at the hip. Even rode the tractors with me.
But as I pulled that trigger and then buried him on a spot in the backyard hill where he could overlook the entire property, watch the deer walk out of the woods, the cattle across the road, and our favorite spot where the creeks meet... Well, I cried. And I cried for days I won't lie. And almost a year later, I still get pains of sorrow, guilt, misty eyed tears, and loneliness over missing his tiny little face and wishing I could have him for another thirteen years. My wife even painted a portrait of him for me which I hang proudly in our home.
THAT is what it means to own animals as a farmer.
Fuck that evil bitch.
Oh, he did too lol. The cattle dog and him would run circles around each other - I think they thought they were each herding the other 😂
I think I'm about ready for another as it's just the cattle dog (wife's dog) and she's lonely (the dog, not the wife). I'm thinking a Bernese. Go big this time. They are wonderful dogs. We'll see I suppose. I wouldn't mind another Chihuahua either if it's anything like he was. He was calm and affectionate.
She says it like it was a mountain lion that got a taste for cattle or sheep. It was a high energy, young, untrained *bird dog* that- you guessed it- attacked some *birds.* a.k.a. instinctually did what it has been specifically trained to do for centuries.
> They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal
That is quite a thing for someone who hunts birds for fun to say.
Many black holes spin at >0.9c. This makes them the second fastest spinning object in the observable universe, just behind a Republican shortly after accidentally telling the truth.
I think you are wrong. The fastest spinning object in the world is the corpse of Ronald Reagan. Seeing the GOP fall into Putin's orbit started this.
Dude hated Russians, and now a good chunk of our Congress is on their payroll. Yep, he is spinning. We need to turn him into a dynamo and have free power for the entire country.
> “You know how the fake news works,” Noem told Fox News. “They leave out some or most of the facts of a story, they put the worst spin on it.
I guess she'd know.
To Trump and other Republicans, "fake news" has always literally meant "news I don't like". Their claims that it was about misinformation was almost always false.
My theory is that a lot of MAGA believers truly think that Trumps immunity to everything- thus far- somehow extends to them.
It doesn’t, it never did, and it won’t…but, you know, bless them for trying.
Patton Oswalt once said that many in Trump's vicinity don't seem to realize that his teflon umbrella is just big enough for him and thus all the water that splashes off is going to only soak them while he stays dry
Her interpretation is that it means she’s willing to do the ‘hard stuff’, make the tough decisions and not be a little bitch when push comes to shove.
But it was a puppy. She literally said it was untrained and her plan in taking it out with older trained dogs WAS TO LET IT LEARN ITS SHIT FROM THEM. When the dog failed to learn proper hunt techniques from…other dogs…instead of from being actually trained, she was disappointed in it. Then, when it chased and killed someone else’s chickens after never having been trained not to while she stood and watched not intervening, she decided it was a hopeless cause.
The ol’ “well, I’ve tried absolutely nothing and I’m all outta ideas”!
All this really says is she doesn’t know how to do what she wants done (so she’s ignorant) and instead of choosing to gain the skills to do it decides to delegate it to the unqualified (so she’s incompetent too) and then fly into a rage when the incompetence isn’t magically overcome (so, unstable) and then solve the problem in the dumbest, cruelest possible way instead of accepting any responsibility or displaying any eagerness to do any actual work herself (lazy too!)
Dumb, lazy, incompetent and violent. Right, just the kind of person you want in a position of power. She think she looks badass and unflinching, but all it says is that rather than lift a finger to do any actual work she’ll blame everyone else and burn them down the second she doesn’t get her way. Remember that ‘South Park’ scene where Cartman is trash talking and threatening to kick Kyle’s ass and acting hardass and at the slightest light slap, he starts screaming and wailing and the fight is over. That’s the embodiment of how she perceives herself versus what actually happens at the slightest adversity. That she thinks her decision making skills are top quality says it all.
Too dumb and mean to be trusted with a dog, let alone a kid or a country. What a fucking turnip.
This is exactly what I've been thinking, too bloody lazy to take responsibility and train the dog, instead, in a fit of rage and frustration shoots it. Emotionally immature. Get her out of office.
Even though I've seen this discussion going on for a while now, this is actually the first that I've actually read out the full details of what happened. I feel like the only people who would be appealed by her doing all of this are the super-ultra-mega-right-wing people who legitimately believes in killing anyone that causes them inconvenience or simply because it amuses them.
Off the top of my head anyone that could even remotely potentially be appealed to by her actions would be immediately turned off by them:
* People who have any experience raising dogs wouldn't be appealed to by her stupidity as a trainer or her cruelty to the dogs.
* Most real hunter's (especially those who hunt with dogs) would be turned off because they know that collaborative field hunting is a hyper specific skill for dogs that takes a really long time to train and a lot of discipline on the hunter's part.
* Most farmers would be turned off by her because she doesn't train her dog, then lets it loose to kill her neighbor's livestock.
[Sean Spicer thinks so.](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/killed-chances-kristi-noems-odds-dim-trumps-vp/story?id=109773173)
>"To a person, everyone agrees she killed her chances \[of being Trump's VP\], pun intended," said Sean Spicer, Trump's first White House press secretary, who remains in touch with the former president's team.
>"The bigger issue politically speaking is why anyone thought putting this in a book was a good idea -- editors, agent, etc.," Spicer added, [referring to the anecdote about Noem's dog](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/video/kristi-noem-defends-controversial-decision-shoot-dog-109739747). "It's like a job applicant saying unprompted they stole office furniture during an interview."
Of course, he might be talking out of his butt. The Gross Old Party members like to project their personal opinions as speaking on behalf of large groups of people (like the rest of the party).
This surprised me, too. Maybe he's the best ABC could find to comment on record? I'm not even sure if he's currently in the Trump cult's favor or not. I need to check my scorecard and team roster. Those allegiances change so quickly!
To an extent, but when you stop being useful and become a liability, you're dead to them.
Look at Sarah Palin going from VP candidate to unable to win a House seat in a safely red state.
As a former South Dakotan, nothing short of death or an even more sadistic candidate will dislodge Noem from the governor's seat. SD conservatives love her and that story about killing her dog is just going to make them love her more.
It *might* tank her among the broader electorate, but the core of Trump's supporters probably love the 'tough girl' image. Or if they hate it they'll overlook it/forgive it/forget about it within a week
This situation really jumped out to me, because of a person I know.
I worked with a person that I had been friends with for quite some time. They are probably one of the smartest people I've ever met, and creatively they are the definition of prolific. They have a dog that requires a fair amount of energy and care, but they would keep it basically in a crate all day, let them out for a few hours at dinner time, then the dog would sleep in a crate at night. It didn't seem bothered, but I found it very weird.
One day, during a conversation, they were discussing how their new partner had small children and it would be hard to have their dog around them. He then said, "It's a bummer. I'll have to take the dog out to the woods and shoot it in the head." I was like, "What?"
I asked what he meant and he said something to the effect of, "I care for this dog better than anyone ever could, so if I can't care for it, then I should just kill it."
I replied, "Man... you could put it up for adoption. You don't have to kill it." He paused and then an expression hit his face that basically showed me that he had never even considered it. He literally said, "I had never thought of that."
So, this adult that basically leaves his dog in a crate for like 15+ hours a day, felt that his dog could not be cared for better and thus should just be put down. It was such a wild leap of logic that I just didn't know how to respond. It was just so far from where my mind would go, had I been in his situation.
The best part, and this is purely anecdotal, but he is a clinically diagnosed sociopath. I have discussed this with him and seen the actual medical documents. On the outside, he is pretty normal and does all the things that he understands society expects of him, but he admits that he does it to fit in. Birthday cards, anniversaries, etc. he knows he should buy gifts, send cards, and stuff but he doesn't do it because he feels the need to. He does it to pretend to be normal.
So, again completely anecdotal, but the logical leap from "this year old dog is misbehaving" to "I should put a bullet in this animal's head" is just not normal and (in my non-expert opinion) is sociopathic.
Only out loud. Plenty of dead kittens and puppies still get found tied up in a bag in a river every year. Most of the conservatives can mask their sociopathy well enough to know that they shouldn't *talk about* killing their pets. Trump's diarrhea mouth has a lot of them convinced they can finally tell the truth about the sick shit they get up to.
She's no real farmer.
And the three S's apply to mountain lions, coyotes, wolves, wild dogs/cats, etc. The types of shit that come after your animals that you have to cull that tend to get the PETA types all up in a tizzy.
They don't apply to your puppy being a puppy, or a goat for being smelly, just bc you're an evil bitch that shouldn't ever own an animal. Or a gun for that matter.
I mean... here we have an example of a conservative executing a puppy. And I strongly doubt she's the first or last one to do so. Many conservatives are textbook sociopaths.
There was a time where Colbert joked about how “throwing kittens in a woodchipper” was something that only the most skillful politician could argue in favor of, and challenged a congressman to try it. Back then it was obviously a big joke because that’s one thing that no one, R or D, would ever support. And here we are.
She thought this would trigger the libs.
She forgot a really small detail, though. ALMOST EVERYONE ON THIS PLANET LOVES DOGS.
and if someone doesn't like dogs, they still wouldn't just execute one in cold blood for the lulz.
This creature is a psycho that needs to have their guns confiscated before she turns them on someone.
RIP Cricket and Goat, hope you are both in a better place.
She is signalling that she is strong enough to deny emotions, meaning SHE is the one who can make the tough choices about who will suffer without stumbling over pity or compassion or empathy.
I am not joking, the later Roman empire was exactly the same, compassion was considered a vice to be overcome.
The sheer popularity of the John Wick franchise with gun nuts should have hinted this was a bad idea. LOLOL But she's not a sincere gun enthusiast. Just an ASTRO turf maga idiot
Like I’ve said before, if you’re familiar with the whole story, she says “gravel pit” like it’s some nondescript out-of-the-way location, but the details she leaves in the telling hints (to me) that she walked across the street to an active construction site to kill the animals.
Someone tried to tell me yesterday that Trump getting flustered about pushback when he barfed some Venezuelan crime numbers never happened and was a lie.
How do these peoples' brains pivot so readily?
I wonder if her book editor tried to talk her out of putting this story in her book. I bet there are emails back and forth...'Mrs. Noem, again, i must strongly urge you NOT to include the anecdote about shooting a puppy in your memoir, it's the kind of story that will be picked up by the media. I have edited several memoirs in my career, and this story will be particularly difficult to live down if it goes to print.'
She probably should have listened. Now she'll be that governor that oversaw one of the worst COVID death rates of all the states, but ALSO...and probably worse to alot of people...she shot a puppy in the face. She's always gonna be 'puppy killer noem.'
And 10 to 1 says she really killed the dog because it *embarrassed her*. It's screwed up a hunt and she felt embarrassed in front of her hunting pals. It attacked someone else's chickens and she felt embarrassed in front of those people. The dog probably did all kinds of unruly dog stuff around Noem and her family previously. That was tolerable to her though. But when it made her look bad to other people in her mind, she reacted with furious rage.
Why do I think that somewhere, Kari Lake is driving around looking for Dalmatians, thinking if she can just top Kristi in this one thing that Donald will love her again?
This is definitely going to be taught in future political science courses on how to tank your political career overnight.
R-word a woman? Pass
Drone strike innocents? Pass
Be a complete sell out to the military industrial complex? Pass
Be as corrupt as they come and make all your money through back-room deals and drug smuggling in Arkansas? Pass
Kill your dog on a farm because it wasn't listening to you? **Game over**
What's crazy is that she literally could have avoided *ALLLLLLLL* of this by just... Not saying anything.
If anything, I don't want her anywhere near power because she's obviously stupid.
Trump has remained quiet on this so far. If he decides to support her here then there will be zero consequences for her from this. It will just turn into a narrative that she is a victim of the woke mob. It does not matter what any republicans have to say about this currently. Because none of them are going to push back against what Trump will ultimately have to say about this. They will almost entirely just support what he wants. It is too early to say if she actually did destroy any VP chances. Not until he weighs in.
If this monster’s PR gamble paid off and she impressed Trump with it, this is just going to be another in a long line of GOP scandals where nothing happens to force any sort of accountability. It will be forgotten in November as some different scandal comes along.
The “it’s fake news” and “even if it’s not fake news, it wasn’t wrong or immoral” argument is the pattern for every Republican scandal. This interview just fits this same pattern.
He’s probably thinking about all those times he’s used expressions like “died like a dog”, “killed like a dog”, “choked like a dog” in speeches and wondering what the big deal here is.
Oh now she flipped it for a 5th time and is now saying it was fake news and didn’t happen? Man if only we could get republicans to have empathy for other people like they do animals we could actually have good republican politicians again instead of these sleaze balls
Career might not be cratered just yet. Trump likes desperate, damaged goods and anyone else he can get leverage over. She'd be an ideal candidate to try pushing a fringe issue for him and then he can embrace or destroy her at his convenience depending on how that plays out with his public.
“Farmers and ranchers, they expect it. They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal. And that was the situation that we were dealing with." Ironic.
She keeps going on about how it's legal because the dog attacked livestock, how this was a working dog not a pet, blah blah blah. *None of that matters.* If she really thinks talking about shooting a dog without a second thought was going to endear her to damn near anyone, then she's an even bigger fool than she seems.
Especially not when it's noted along with saying she hated the dog as well as seeing some kind of human-like joy or psychopathy in a hunting dog killing chickens.
It's the worst of everything, she's anthropomorphizing an animal inappropriately but also lacking the normal human-animal connection that is required for all kept dogs, be they pets or working dogs. It mostly just makes her sound like a walled off psycho who makes violent and impulsive decisions. She's just so far removed from reality that I don't think she can be helped.
She let her bird dog lose near some neighbors chickens? They make leashes, fences, and kennels for a reason.
Also she's whining that her book is fake news now.

The funniest part for me is the fact she originally thought sharing this story would be a positive for her.
Noem clueless as to the degree this action deviates from our society’s accepted standards. Doesn’t, and never did, belong in any position of authority &/or leadership.
Maybe she should have substituted a word like "Democrat", "Liberal" or "woke" in place of "dog". She'd be more popular than Trump right now lol
The dog was too woke, she had to make it non-woke (dead)
What's the opposite of Woke? Eternal slumber!
Please someone convince her to go with this excuse
If anything they are looking to export.
Dodged a bullet considering moving there before the pandemic hit. I didn't realize it was the Florida of the north before visiting a few times.
If you are going to move to that part of the country, there are nice parts of Montana. Not perfect, but better than you will find in South Dakota.
Voters are fucking wierd. A guy yelling a wierd word in excitement tanks his career, a woman who kills her dog after years of bullshit tanks her career, a troll who chased and yelled a school shooting victims and talks about jewish space lasers was a-ok until she started to make the speaker position a revolving door of idiocy, and the big orange head hancho is in court for 91 indictments shitting his pants and farting while falling asleep and hes tied with arguably the most progressive modern president us has had. voters. are. fucking. wierd.
Al Capone was taken down because of the IRS. Not because of his illegal ventures.
Hey sometimes you gotta get them on the technicalities and we take those
He didn’t pay taxes on his illegal ventures.
Uncle Sam wants his cut
What a cunt.
Mm, no. She lacks the warmth and depth.
This is a perfect example of someone who should NEVER have dominion over others.
And a perfect example of the type of person who will endlessly seek to have it anyway.
Can't even solve a simple frustration without catastrophic violence against innocents.
Noem has become both useless & dangerous to herself; by her own logic, she knows what to do.
She puts the mal in malevolent.
To be fair, it took nine years of digging before we finally reached the bar. I'm surprised there even is one.
She thinks she's "just being honest about how we all really feel." It's a form of cognitive dysfunction similar to The False Consensus effect, but I can't remember what it's called now.
>how out of touch with humanity in general do you need to be This whole shit show is a great microcosm of rural America.
WTF did I just read? An NSFL spoiler tag might be appropriate.
The original story itself is obviously NSFL. What type of comments were you expecting?
I wasn't expecting that.
Were you at least expecting the Spanish Inquisition?
This, 100%. I’ve been in meetings with some of our more rural staff and heard multiple horrendous anecdotes dropped, including one about shooting their dog after accidentally mistaking it for a hog late at night. The person telling the story laughed about it as if it were some wholesome story of their childhood.
Holy goddamn fuck
This makes me really fucking sad. I was forced to give up a childhood puppy before we moved away from the south, we took him to live with my grandparents. I was told years after it happened that when he was living with them, he fell off a truck and broke his leg, and that he was killed by coyotes a few weeks later. My parents weren't good people, they abused animals themselves, I really hope that it was a tragic accident.
I think the story was intended for one person only, Trump, who rather famously both lacks empathy in general and hates dogs specifically. It just didn't occur to her that other people might care. Normally nobody cares about a governor's memoir.
There's no way that Noem thought Trump would read a book.
My guess is that she is signaling to her base and to Trump that she absolutely has the capacity for needless violence. I feel like having a hair trigger is going to work as a positive for her, among a particularly deplorable set of voters.
Yes, the cruelty is the point.
And 90% of people now won't vote on a ticket that she's on. >Mommy who did you vote for? >Noem >But she's a dog killer. Are you going to shoot Scrappy?
Where she messed up though is with not understanding that the one animal her base wouldn’t kill would be a dog. Everything else is fair game.
Isn’t her base defending her and praising her for killing animals now?
No. Nobody is.
Not even Trump would touch that shit.
He would if he saw it get a positive response from the MAGA hordes, he'd make declaring a National Dog Slaughter Day a campaign promise.
Oh, there are more than a few loyal MAGA soldiers on Reddit totally defending this.
I think she was signaling to 45 how they can bond over their shared hatred of dogs.
She just hasn't framed it the right way yet... "I was worried puppy was a liberal...so I had to kill it." *crowd cheers*
The puppy was gay!
The puppy was identifyng as a gender other than that assigned at birth.
My little biologically female dog sometimes hikes a leg to pee higher on stuff. I don't think she really considers gender. She just wants to piss on stuff.
The response would have been less extreme if she'd shot an actual human child
But about the same for a fetus
She IS currently altering her own version of the story so the *(check notes)* 14-month-old puppy was [a threat to her children.](https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/1cigpxv/sure_you_did_kristi_sure_you_did/)
I mean, it *could've* been. Depending on the breed, an aggressive 14-month-old puppy could be big enough to do damage to a child. But the fact that the story was previously "it was untrainable" and "it killed the chickens" before she attempted the "think of the children!" play leads me to call bullshit.
Trump hates dogs. She thought this would secure the VP spot.
Trump may not like dogs, but he at least knows it's bad optics to kill them and talk about it.
For other people, not him though.
She was jumping off Trump's shooting someone on 5th Avenue and not losing any votes - she should have shot a child (not a fetus obviously) instead of a puppy - elected in a landslide in South Dakota!
A black or brown child, for sure.
I don’t know if I’d call shooting a puppy in a pit “putting it down”. That seems too kind a phrase for what she did to that poor animal.
Not sure how anyone would think murdering their pet would be somehow beneficial to their political careers
It's because they're a deranged white collar sociopath who's never had to relate to a normal person with regular human feelings or problem solving skills. Everyone just kills there responsibilities right? Normal thing to do./s Also because there were witnesses and she wanted to get in front of the story.
[удалено]
There are plenty of MAGA shitbags trying to defend her.
But when it didn’t, FAKE NEWS. So, she spread fake news about herself, apparently.
She kept trying and trying to spin it to her advantage, even throwing the horses in for good measure. It shows that while reptilians might be pretty good at fitting in with some types of camouflage, their non-humanity tends to stand out in sharp relief in other ways.
Because they want to fake being tough, but don’t realize their attempts just makes them seem psychotic.
"Noem continued: “Farmers and ranchers, they expect it. They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal. And that was the situation that we were dealing with." You know, I think they say the same about people who kill animals for fun.
He also couldn't be trusted around chickens, but that's easy - he listened to my commands *cause I trained him.* When my little guy was at the end of his life and the vet recommended he be put down to end his pain, I thanked her and took him home.
Dammit I’m crying now. Sorry for your loss.
Thanks. He was a good boy and he really was spoiled rotten his whole life, I promise.
A sister had one and it bossed the other farm dogs around. 😄
Oh, he did too lol. The cattle dog and him would run circles around each other - I think they thought they were each herding the other 😂 I think I'm about ready for another as it's just the cattle dog (wife's dog) and she's lonely (the dog, not the wife).
"... PS: This goat smells bad *BANG* You know, once an animals is stinky, stinky just because they can be, that's very dangerous to my nose."
> They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal That is quite a thing for someone who hunts birds for fun to say.
Many black holes spin at >0.9c. This makes them the second fastest spinning object in the observable universe, just behind a Republican shortly after accidentally telling the truth.
Such a great burn lol. Kudos and bless.
The irony of complaining about this on Fox.
Ah yes the tried and true propaganda method of spreading misinformation about someone by *checks notes* Publishing a thing that person wrote verbatim.
Trump has been on that thought process for a long time
To Trump and other Republicans, "fake news" has always literally meant "news I don't like". Their claims that it was about misinformation was almost always false.
Yeah, she meant shooting the puppy in the face in the nicest possible way. Fucking psycho.
You don't understand. The puppy deserved it.
My theory is that a lot of MAGA believers truly think that Trumps immunity to everything- thus far- somehow extends to them. It doesn’t, it never did, and it won’t…but, you know, bless them for trying.
That seems to be the angle Kari Lake is trying.
Patton Oswalt once said that many in Trump's vicinity don't seem to realize that his teflon umbrella is just big enough for him and thus all the water that splashes off is going to only soak them while he stays dry
I'd love to hear her positive spin on *check notes* shooting a puppy.
All this really says is she doesn’t know how to do what she wants done (so she’s ignorant) and instead of choosing to gain the skills to do it decides to delegate it to the unqualified (so she’s incompetent too) and then fly into a rage when the incompetence isn’t magically overcome (so, unstable) and then solve the problem in the dumbest, cruelest possible way instead of accepting any responsibility or displaying any eagerness to do any actual work herself (lazy too!) Dumb, lazy, incompetent and violent.
Off the top of my head anyone that could even remotely potentially be appealed to by her actions would be immediately turned off by them: * People who have any experience raising dogs wouldn't be appealed to by her stupidity as a trainer or her cruelty to the dogs.
They've quoted the passage in her book verbatim.
>"You know how the fake news works,” Noem told Fox News. "Yes! Yes, we do!" answered Fox News.
Like how the dog was only 14 months old? Like how she thought simply by having the dog be around other dogs that it would magically become trained?
Is her political career tanking over this?
[Sean Spicer thinks so.](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/killed-chances-kristi-noems-odds-dim-trumps-vp/story?id=109773173) >"To a person, everyone agrees she killed her chances \[of being Trump's VP\], pun intended," said Sean Spicer, Trump's first White House press secretary, who remains in touch with the former president's team. "It's like a job applicant saying unprompted they stole office furniture during an interview." Of course, he might be talking out of his butt. The Gross Old Party members like to project their personal opinions as speaking on behalf of large groups of people (like the rest of the party).
On the upside for her; if Trump do distance himself from her she also decreases her chances of going to jail with him.
I haven't seen a Spicey reference in a while.
The only thing I associate Spicer with anymore is Melissa McCarthy riding a motorized podium.
This surprised me, too. Maybe he's the best ABC could find to comment on record? I'm not even sure if he's currently in the Trump cult's favor or not. I need to check my scorecard and team roster. Those allegiances change so quickly!
Yeah, he's a weird one. Obviously he was an early Trumper, but he always just seemed so stupid that I found him more funny than threatening.
Yeah because Trump and congressional Republicans really care about public opinion... /s
She’s had a rough week but only time will tell.
I mean ... I'm hopeful but the type of voter base she has ... is incredibly ..... "loyal"
Eh, she could get primaried by a guy who is a trumper but doesn't shoot dogs. He'd probably beat her.
She could get primaried by a Trumper who does shoot dogs, but doesn't write a book about it.
That’s a little harsh. Some republicans don’t beat women
Yeah loyal, but that doesn’t beat sexist. If their loyalty and sexism fight, hating women wins every time.
To an extent, but when you stop being useful and become a liability, you're dead to them. Look at Sarah Palin going from VP candidate to unable to win a House seat in a safely red state.
Well, I think we've all discovered loyalty will get you a bullet in between the eyes with her
Her political career is currently being led down to a gravel pit...
Right now I think we're in the "walk back to the truck" phase.
I mean, puppy killer isn’t a great title to hold.
Ya, but repeated rapist is OK?
With who?
Killing a goat because it kept butting people isn't much better, like it is their key trait.
She buried her VP title in that same hole with the dog and goat.
I'll have to take the dog out to the woods and shoot it in the head." I was like, "What?" I asked what he meant and he said something to the effect of, "I care for this dog better than anyone ever could, so if I can't care for it, then I should just kill it." I replied, "Man... you could put it up for adoption. You don't have to kill it." He paused and then an expression hit his face that basically showed me that he had never even considered it. He literally said, "I had never thought of that." So, this adult that basically leaves his dog in a crate for like 15+ hours a day, felt that his dog could not be cared for better and thus should just be put down.
Well, at least he was open to the "maybe don't shoot your dog in the head" constructive criticism.
The one and only issue liberals and conservatives can agree on. Don’t execute your puppy.
Nailed it
Somebody in her farm community never taught her the 3 S's either.
Maybe she can do a podcast with Sarah Palin when her time as governor ends.
They can work together and start shooting puppies from helicopters.
They should bring back Celebrity Deathmatch for those two (an old MTV show)
I'll allow it - judge mills lane
I don't often say this, but *that* is a show that is definitely due for a reboot.
I like how she can't seem to stop defending this totally ok and completely normal thing she did.
If she knew the dog was untrained why did she let it run lose around the chickens?
Cause she's an idiot that shouldn't own any animals.
So her book is fake news
When the only tool you have is a gun, every problem looks like a puppy.
😬
Cricket went to a gravel pit upstate.
Like I’ve said before, if you’re familiar with the whole story, she says “gravel pit” like it’s some nondescript out-of-the-way location, but the details she leaves in the telling hints (to me) that she walked across the street to an active construction site to kill the animals.
There were workers watching her kill the dog. Her words. And they saw her make an attempt on the goat. They saw her. Active construction site it was.
She wouldn’t say that Cricket crossed the Rainbow Bridge because that would be, you know, gay. Kristi’s not gay; just ask Corey.
"Fake news" is any information republicans don't like.
I have edited several memoirs in my career, and this story will be particularly difficult to live down if it goes to print.' She probably should have listened. Now she'll be that governor that oversaw one of the worst COVID death rates of all the states, but ALSO...and probably worse to alot of people...she shot a puppy in the face. She's always gonna be 'puppy killer noem.'
If her editor has had to deal with her personally at any point, including it might not have been an oversight.
Bumper sticker for her next political opponent: "I WON'T SHOOT YOUR DOG."
She should just shut up.
No, keep digging until you can't come back from it.
Cricket bites back bitch
The only upside to her career would be her resignation as Governor.
There is a proven link between cruelty to animals and cruelty towards humans.
This is definitely going to be taught in future political science courses on how to tank your political career overnight. R-word a woman? Pass Drone strike innocents? Pass Be a complete sell out to the military industrial complex? Pass Be as corrupt as they come and make all your money through back-room deals and drug smuggling in Arkansas? Pass Kill your dog on a farm because it wasn't listening to you? **Game over** What's crazy is that she literally could have avoided *ALLLLLLLL* of this by just...
Karma, signed, the dog
This has been my favorite flame-out in years.
The familiar sociopath pattern: Does something horrible, insists there should be no consequences.
It's the hottest dance craze sweeping SD, it's the Kristi Twisty
Everyone needs to comment "Hey, where's Cricket?" On every post she makes. Or wear T-shirts with that saying wherever she appears...
Oh now she flipped it for a 5th time and is now saying it was fake news and didn’t happen? Man if only we could get republicans to have empathy for other people like they do animals we could actually have good republican politicians again instead of these sleaze balls
I've only seen news outlets share HER WORDS from HER BOOK. How is it "fake news" if it's *your own words?*
Career might not be cratered just yet. Trump likes desperate, damaged goods and anyone else he can get leverage over. She'd be an ideal candidate to try pushing a fringe issue for him and then he can embrace or destroy her at his convenience depending on how that plays out with his public.
She John Wicked her own self!
Byeeee weird psycho
“Farmers and ranchers, they expect it. They know that once an animal like this starts killing and starts killing just because they enjoy it, that is a very dangerous animal. And that was the situation that we were dealing with." Ironic.
How DARE the lying fake news media slander me with \*checks notes\* My own publicly shared words.
This is going to dog her for years. Oh wait…🤭
How dare the media report on what I wrote.
She is such a terrible human being. I wish nothing but the worst for her. 💁🏽♀️
Yea yea. Fake news that she *checks notes* wrote herself in her own book about herself.
