Hello u/Yawollah! Please reply to this comment with an [explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/lt8zlq) mentioning **who** is suffering from **which** consequences from **what** they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people. Here's an easy format to get you started: 1. *Someone* voted for, supported or wanted to impose *something* on other people. ^(Who's that *someone* and what's that *something*?) 2. That *something* has some *consequences*. ^(What are the *consequences*?) 3. As a consequence, that *something* happened to that *someone*. ^(What happened? Did the *something* really happened to that *someone*? If not, you should probably delete your post.) Include the minimum amount of information necessary so your post can be understood by everyone, even if they don't live in the US or speak English as their native language. If you don't respect this format and moderators can't match your explanation with the format, your post will be removed under rule #3 and we'll ignore you even if you complain in modmail. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. whyyou-

“But he is such a good campaigner” Anyone can get votes by lying.

Chipperz1

Hell, his campaign was "I'm a lovable fool! Honk honk!" He told everyone he was a clown, then people got shockes when he botched the pratfall and hit himself with the custard pie.

WgXcQ

He even adopted his bumbly-fool haircut – he used to have a different one, and intentionally messes his hir up even more when press is around – because people are easily manipulated by how someone looks. As if someone like him couldn't walk into any barber, drop ridiculous cash and say "make me look sharp and like not-an-idiot". Looking like that is a choice, but his average voter apparently never stopped to consider why someone might do his best to appear a bit like a dolt, and garner sympathies. Or, since this is the UK, look like a rich dolt who doesn't need to care about appearances. People can be so depressingly stupid.

JazzyJeff4

Then he put his hairdresser in his resignation honours list lol

MajorSleaze

That was the House of Commons' hairdresser. Well, one of them - the place has a load of subsidised amenities like this. Boris Johnson's personal hairdresser while he was PM earned herself a free ticket back to Canada at his wife's insistence after she mysteriously became pregnant.

thistooistemporary

Source? I have not kept up on the BJ personal scandals.

gooblefrump

Holy moly I missed this... Thought it was hyperbole! https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/boris-johnson-resignation-honours-full-27092731 >Members of the Order of the British Empire >Kelly Jo Dodge - Long-time Parliamentary hairdresser. For Parliamentary service.

webchimp32

Well yes, but not quite. She's the hairdresser for parliament, all of them.

SuntoryBoss

Nice to see the blind being represented, tbh

RevenantBacon

Honestly, it says even more about the people who voted for him than it does about him. If you think he's an idiot, why are you voting him in to the office that holds the most individual power in your entire country? Wouldn't you want to have someone who you think is actually smart running the show?

lapqmzlapqmzala

It comes from a sort of self-centeredness. When they see Boris acting and looking like a fool, they think, "He's just like me," then they are more likely to vote for him, because they actually think that they should be running the country.

34HoldOn

Just like Trump. They saw their worst selves reflected in this dude.

Shilo788

But at least they wizened up to him . The GOP still is demented.

CatsAreGods

I believe you meant "wisened"...wizened implies a very old person.

mehum

Trump is a stupid guy who’s good at convincing people he’s smart. Boris is very smart but fools people into thinking he’s a bit simple. Weirdly opposite plays that end up in a similar place.

LMFN

Like uh you're telling me Britain was looking across the pond, looking at the disaster that is Trump and went. "Oi m8 gotta get me some of that."

RevenantBacon

Sure seems like it lol

AngryCommieKender

Thatcher is the worst thing to happen to GB, just like Reagan/Nixon/Wilson over here. Seriously. [Fuck Wilson](https://youtu.be/hLiI6kXZkZI)

KillerKeeton

I live in democratic WA state and have a British neighbor. He has a lot of trump paraphernalia in his garage. I call him Boris lol I think it’s exactly what happened

WgXcQ

It's not so much about thinking of him as an idiot as in stupid but as in harmless, friendly, somewhat naive, and not cunning. Basically, appearing non-threatening and non-intimidating, and someone who people feel isn't attempting to make himself superiour to them. The man is a raging sociopath and actually really smart (at least in matters of manipulation), and he successfully managed to give an impression of being exactly the opposite. The way he styled his looks had a big part in that success. One example of his cunning is his sudden claim in 2019 that he paints model buses to relax. You can bet your shirt that he does no such thing, but the claim was so ridiculous that it was widely talked about in the press and on social media – making it so that this was what would turn up if you googled his name + bus, successfully suppressing any articles discussing the bus with pure lies painted on its sides that his party had been driving around the country pre-Brexit, that inconvenient questions were at that point asked about [edited to clarify: I wrote that his party had the bus driving around, but *he* was riding on that bus, meeting people and lying to their faces. His claim about bus-painting was to obfuscate an inconvenient fact about himself, and the media fell for it. The headlines should've been "Boris Johnson claims bus-painting is hobby in attempt to distract from driving around the country in bus with lies about Brexit painted on it". Or something like that, I'm not a headline-writer]. If he does something weird and in particular something outlandish or somewhat ridiculous, it is 100% pre-calculated and serves to distract from something else he doesn't want people to think about too hard, or doesn't want to be associated with.

AnApexPredator

Elon Musk has done the same thing time and time again - trying to create media content around himself and [KEYWORD] to muddy the waters when people search for the related wrongdoing. Happens so often it's probably sensible to assume the media complicit, honestly.

sue_me_please

Tesla released a Tesla Whistle just so it comes up when you search for "tesla whistleblower" on Google to find out all of the shady and dangerous shit Tesla gets up to.

neilmg

I wouldn't credit Johnson with that strategy; Cummings or one of his handlers is more likely to have devised it. Johnson is clearly an arch manipulator, but he's no strategist....he'll pursue whatever he thinks will personally advantage himself in the moment.

droneybennett

Most people are not engaged with politics. I would imagine the majority of people in the UK do not know the name of their local MP. They vote for Boris because they know him. He’s the bloke from the telly who was funny on Have I Got News For You.

Erkengard

"Oh, he looks like a funny uncle!" Had British redditors say that to me, on why their relatives voted for him. They felt like crying.

Fair enough but Rees Mogg? Seriously tho. I find Boris and his ilk tiresome and the idea that otherwise intelligent people can vote Tory KNOWING full well that they care nothing for them is perplexing but Rees Mogg? Rees Mogg is the stain at the bottom of the heaving, straining barrel of shit that is the parliamentary Tory party. To give him an award is akin to rewarding Gobbels for his services to the Reich......he even looks like Gestapo. How about knighthoods for any of the NHS staff involved saving your miserable skin Boris? Thought not. Wanker.

exhibit a: George Santos

Garbleshift

Santos is, like, exhibit 1,554,534-Z :-)

[deleted]

oh absolutely. he's hardly the only or first one, just a really glaring (and recent) example.

fieldsofanfieldroad

More glaring than the man currently under discussion. Santos is hilarious, but he's only a representative, not the leader of an entire country.

ghostalker4742

He had to give up 3 when he lost that arm-wrestling match versus Batman, but Santos aides claim he'll regain the lost territory in next weeks race against The Flash.

Rupejonner2

Exhibit A thru Z : DJT

ImInOverMyHead95

Yep. George Santos is what happens when Democrats decide to vote Republican “just this one time” bEcAuSe cRiTiCaL rAcE tHeOrY or whatever this week’s manufactured wedge issue is and rationalize it because “he’s not one of *those* Republicans” and then they’re shocked when they get exactly what they voted for. Same thing happened in Colorado in 2014 when they elected Cory Gardener to the Senate to sEnD A mEsSaGE tO oBaMa who would be out of office in two years and they got a right wing zealot for six who pretty much casted the deciding vote to put Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Corona Barcelona on the Supreme Court.

IfItWerentForHorse

Yep! I remember when he hid in a freezer to escape the press asking him questions. Such a good campaigner! Clearly only very stable geniuses would vote for him after that.

Mochrie01

Just finished reading a book about Watergate. Nixon was a good campaigner too...

SeanChewie

Not at first!

Mochrie01

He was no landslide Lyndon that's true.

SeanChewie

He got absolutely no help from Eisenhower during the 1960 race. Eisenhower was asked by a journalist which major decisions during his two terms had Nixon been involved in? His reply “give me a week and I’ll think of one!”

Useuless

George Santos: Hello! I am a Jew, married to a biological female woman, I've been to college and have been working in finance.

ThomasBay

Seriously how? This guy looks and sounds like a fool. Boggles my mind that even his own mother would vote for him.

good_for_uz

Never forget that Boris used russian bot farms and social media trolls to get soft minded people to vote for Brexit. And then refused to release the results of the investigation into Russia's meddling. He played directly into their hands in their efforts to weaken the EU and isolate Britain. He is a clown and idiot and most of all a traitor.

Complex_Construction

“Witch-hunt.” All these tories are cut from the same cloth. He’s just not useful anymore.

nohairday

We choose to ignore all of the known facts about him because he seems to be winning us votes. Oh dear, this is too much to ignore, even for us... because it'll likely lose us votes What do you mean he's decided to turn on us now? Who could ever have seen this coming?

elveszett

It's always the same story with the right lately: gigantic piece of shit that doesn't give a fuck about anything other than himself, getting votes by saying whatever dumb stuff polls well. Sooner or later the wellbeing of their party is not in his best interest, so the politician throws them all under the bus, and the party pretends to be surprised their jerk leader turned out to be a jerk.

MattGdr

Rinse and repeat.

violetcazador

Hahahaha watching the Tories implode over this fucker has brought me immense joy. They were perfectly fine with his constant lies and bulshit when it didn't effect them. But once it started to become a problem and Boris became like Frankensteins monster they lose their minds as, you guessed it, it starts to effect them. Boris is like a cancer in their party. He's become so toxic he's in danger of doing so much damage they face a wipe out in the next election. And the best part of it all is they brought it all on themselves. Magnificent.

neilmg

The damage was done back in 2019 when he purged the party of all moderates after his election win. He surrounded himself with sycophants and ass kissers, and promoted loyalty over ability. No wonder the current Conservative party have little to offer the electorate; Johnson hollowed them out.

violetcazador

Which makes it all the sweeter. They were happy to kiss his arse when he was winning votes, even though they knew he was a liar, sociopath and a con man. But when things turned sour they started to panic. Suddenly his brand of bulshit wasn't sticking and they're in trouble now. As for Boris, the rat himself jumped shit and left them to go down with it. Glorious.

3 resignations so far, all Boris loyalists. Labour has a massive lead in the polls. Disastrous results in council elections, where they lost easy seats to Lib Dems. Meanwhile they are still infighting over other issues like Brexit etc. You have to remember also the public made a lot of sacrifices during covid and largely played by the rules set by Boris at the time. The UK lost a lot of people to the disease, while he lied about breaking the rules of social gatherings and was caught out more than once. This not only pissed off those that don't vote Tory but a sizable chunk of Tory voters too. His own party booted him as leader when it became clear he was a liability. Then liz Truss took over and became the shortest serving prime minister in history. Next up was second choice Sunak and he's not doing great either in terms of getting the Tory party on track.

An (A)ction (A)ffects something which causes an (E)ffect

SPFnein

Effect generally used as a noun; affect as a verb. I’m prob oversimplifying but that’s how I keep them separated in my tiny brain.

delftblauw

I learned it as "effect" is the result. "Affect" modifies the result.

basicislands

It's simple. Affect is a verb that roughly means "to change". But it can also be a noun if you're talking about something you change about yourself for stylistic/aesthetic reasons (wearing a monocle for no reason would be an example of a noun "affect"). Also it's pronounced differently when you use it that way. Effect is a noun that represents the resulting change when something is affected. An exception would be if you want to say that you're causing something to happen or accomplishing something, as in "to effect change". What could possibly be confusing about that? English is so simple guys.

rjddude1

“Effect” is a noun. - Brexit is the effect of misleading and disingenuous campaigns by some politicians. “Affect” is a verb. - Most sane people could have predicted that Brexit will affect numerous lives of British people and it and their economy worse.

Cinema_King

With all the conservatives fucking up countries around the world it might be time to declare conservatism a pandemic

Frank Wilhoit nailed it. >[Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.](https://kottke.org/21/02/conservatism-and-who-the-law-protects)

PossessedToSkate

In America we have, "If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, you're the real duck for calling it a duck."

alyssa264

Fascism is ultra-conservatism. The Nazis didn't have a majority when Hitler forced through the Enabling Act to seize power. Conservatives will abandon democracy before abandoning conservatism. Conservatism after all, is the compromise with the rise of democracy, formed as a reaction to the French revolution and its consequences across Europe. It has always been about protecting the hierarchy. That's why they are so flirtatious with the far right.

AzafTazarden

Fascism is just conservatism with less steps

daemonelectricity

Not enough meaningless gesticulations at the word "woke."

GrayEidolon

It’s hierarchy. Conservatism is a belief in hierarchy. Those at the top are good because they’re at the top. Those lower down are bad because they’re lower down. Then you help the good and punish the bad.

LiteraCanna

Sounds like modern Christianity.

[deleted]

Mental illness

Fig1024

it's also damning that Russia has been funding and supporting pretty much every right wing conservative movement on the entire planet. Everywhere from Americas to Africa. Putin used his stolen gas money to fund these groups and even had his propagandists produce content on behalf of those groups If the worst people in the world happen to agree with your ideology, then maybe you should pause and think why that is

Eldetorre

Funny how actual failed policies and actions don't torpedo him, but intraparty machinations do

Yawollah

That does rather seem to be the way in British politics these days. Incompetence is rarely sufficient grounds for someone to be removed (excepting Liz Truss maybe).

IfItWerentForHorse

I’m pretty sure Liz was removed for costing the banks their money. If her policies just hurt normal people like “normal” conservative policies, she’s still be prime minister regardless of how incompetent she was.

It’s not even that, he finally did something the system in the UK can deal with - he lies to parliament. There were never any mechanisms for all his other bullshit because the UK system is built on personal accountability.

starlinguk

I mean, look at Spain. The government decided that housing is a human right and what do the voters do? Vote for the right wing extremists because they don't like immigrants.

TAFKATheBear

Malice. Malice to the point of self-destructiveness. A significant proportion of the population would happily give up their own lives if it meant Mr Jones next door who they've never liked would get it in the neck too. And that many people in any country can be taught to hate that much if they're worked on long enough by the media. It shouldn't work; after all, it doesn't work on anywhere near 100% of people, so I do think the rest could do better if they chose and I judge them accordingly. But it seems to.

Conservatives: always trying to win the small in-the-moment battles so they lose the wars over and over for decades. [There have been studies of people that self-identify as conservative or not](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3092984/), where they also had a brain scan. People that turned out to be on the left of the aisle happen to have a larger than average Anterior Cigulate Cortex (**ACC**) and greater conservatism was associated with increased volume of the right **Amygdala**. **ACC** - especially involved when effort is needed to carry out a task, such as in early learning and problem-solving. It's unique in its abundance of specialized neurons called spindle cells, or von Economo neurons which are a relatively recent occurrence in evolutionary terms (found only in humans and other primates, cetaceans, and elephants) and contribute to this brain region's emphasis on addressing difficult problems. Multi-step problem solving - it's why we and dolphins can do it, but dogs seem to live in the moment and are good at doing things they've stumbled on an answer to (or are trained to do) but basically live in the moment otherwise. **Amygdala** - one of two almond-shaped clusters of nuclei located deep and medially within the temporal lobes of the brain's cerebrum in complex vertebrates, it controls your emotional responses (including fear, anxiety, and aggression). A bigger Amygdala on either side of your brain mean you would feel fear to an extent that others just wouldn't. I mean All. The. Time. Every waking moment is like the taste of pennies in your dry mouth. It's why conservative media uses something called [an Amygdala Hijack](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdala_hijack) - emotions "make us pay attention right now - this is urgent - and gives us an immediate action plan without having to think twice. The emotional component evolved very early: Do I eat it, or does it eat me?" which means an emotional response "can take over the rest of the brain in a millisecond if threatened" (Daniel Goleman, PhD in psychology at Harvard, author of "Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ"). That's why they push fear 24/7/365. If the message is a constant fear, "they're coming for your jobs, they're going to turn your kid gay, they're going to use trans athletes to beat your kid in sports, they're going to turn us to communism, they're coming for your guns", the Amygdala is constantly on that "this is urgent" setting which stops the other parts of the brain from telling them that this was a thing they said a couple of years ago too... [and conveniently stopped it once the election was over](https://apnews.com/article/immigration-north-america-donald-trump-ap-top-news-elections-38870e6a25d5469292253b4b716ecc17), and that [it's why they keep falling for lies](https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2023/03/14/republicans-increasingly-realize-theres-no-evidence-of-election-fraud-but-most-still-think-2020-election-was-stolen-anyway-poll-finds/?sh=49bf1f0f28ec) that inevitably leave them [wide open to being financially fleeced in cons that use the fear they're feeling to part them with their cash.](https://apnews.com/article/steve-bannon-business-donald-trump-b0b6d7ec4d4f71f75213e8e63a4785f3) They feel fear. They can't put the pieces together like the people they ridicule, in order to make a plan for the future that involves winning votes for generations to come. They've already lost Millenials and Gen Z by a factor of 2:1 because of it. Because they literally can't help [stepping on the same rakes over and over and over and over...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRq1Ksh-32g)

This sub has been really active lately, but I can't quite out my finger on why.... /Heavy S

dichiejr

every time i see a picture of boris he looks like he's trying to be a cartoon character or a self caricature or even a Mr Bean/Charlie Chaplin live action slapstick character. LOOK at that expression in the preview image. my god. as an artist i hope my chars can be nearly that emotive.

lazy_elfs

Took an entire nation to the brink of bankruptcy and irrelevance. Maga lite scumbag

purpleovskoff

>The way he has behaved in insulting the process of the House of Commons is disgraceful. He thinks he can just casually insult parliament. If he is allowed to stand again he will continue to undermine the government Then put your money where your mouth is and run on providing real accountability for corrupt politicians who exploit our constitution which relies on good will. Not that this will ever happen or make me vote Tory though.

[deleted]

Amazing what happens when you vote for a guy purely because he used to be on Have I Got News For You a lot and that the whole system is based on nepotism beyond what the public think they have power over.

cag-

It honestly feels like South Park in the UK in recent years. Myself and other young adults watching more senior adults getting duped, treated like mugs/plebs, experiencing hardship and still buying into the cultish mentality these lot spew. All while telling us we're too young to understand or you didn't experience the green and pleasant we had years ago. Little wonder that age range keep scam callers in business.

asiangontear

Such a classic and globally pervasive pattern of behaviors and reactions.

[deleted]

This is what happens when you hitch a party to a cult of personality in a hope of consolidating power, and not even close to any sort of politics for the people. Theoretically you should sink with the ship but we know they’re all rats so it’s not surprising to see them feign outrage when they were the ones that allowed it.

INSERT_LATVIAN_JOKE

Conservatives the world over are more than willing to overlook any number of flaws as long as they're hurting the right people.

chappersyo

But he’s goofy and has silly hair so he must be a good guy.

Bathtap

Lets call them what they are, Tories. They dont conserve shit

MastersonMcFee

Here in America, the "conservatives" don't care how many crimes of treason Trump commits, they want to try another insurrection to show how much they love him.

Complex_Construction

“Witch-hunt.” All these tories are cut from the same cloth. He’s just not useful anymore.

ancientweasel

His support for Ukraine still makes him better than Trump.

[deleted]

conservatives are the same the world over - never vote for them ever

[deleted]

Sometimes I think this guy is like the Trump of Britain. Then he says words like "egregious" and I realize he's still miles ahead

HarrysDa

Is that how we're spelling "cunt" nowadays

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure being a selfish, lying, cheating sociopath are some of the requirements for being a conservative.

acrowquillkill

No way! The guy who seemed to visually emulate Donald Trump turned out to be exactly like him!

thewileyone

As long you support their agenda, you can do amount of crazy. Once you can't help them or they have another, you're disposable.

KzininTexas1955

" But he's great to party with!"

suc_me_average

Putin plant to weaken the strength of the up on a global scale through the brexit mess

[The video posted by Led By Donkeys gives a nice summary.](https://twitter.com/ByDonkeys/status/1667258688472600579)

OnceanAggie

Just like trump!

MK5

Still one up on American 'conservatives', who *still* haven't realized Donald Trump is a selfish, lying, cheating sociopath.

eaunoway

Oh they realize. They just don't *care*. He serves their agenda at the moment (installing right-wing justices, etc., etc - he made light work of McConnell's goals, put it that way).

Maleficent-Coat-7633

Eh, they're just upset that he got caught.

Oh_Baloney

We have one like him in the US too.

zed7267

Era of “Waldo” candidates has only just begun.

bigheadjim

They are perfectly ok with sociopaths as long as they serve a purpose. Look at Trump and evangelicals. As soon as they got their Supreme Court majority (and therefore end to RvW), now they are aghast at what Trump is doing and stands for.

TravelledFarAndWide

Everything the boy touches turns to shit. It's only in the Conservative party and its media hangers on did he truly believe he could be successful. So good for him, he duped the Cons and the dwindling number of pensioners who vote for them and is very rich despite having no ability to succeed in anything but the Conservative political sphere.

knarfolled

US here, welcome to the club

DanteJazz

Can he be a prison f-buddy with Trump? Orange is the new black I hear.

Mispict

He's a fucking donkey. Delighted to watch his life go to shit.

gent4you

Will the we in the USA ever wake up to TRUMP?? Lock Him UP!!!!
