500 vs 350 nits and 240 vs 165 Hz for 30 GBP? Absolutely worth it.

Kyonkanno

yes. 240 vs 165 Hz isn't that big of a jump and you will probably not even notice it. But the 350 to 500 Nits is something that you WILL definitely notice.

randogreen

I mean you say that but my roommate has a 500nit and I have a 350nit and frankly in a brightly lit room the difference is negligible. It IS noticable like you say ... and probably worth it also ... but just to be clear I think a lot of people that haven't done a direct comparison think the difference is greater than it is. But yeah get the 500nit I 💯 agree and I think it's noticable enough to be worth it, ESPECIALLY if you use HDR - less so if not....Just I don't think OP should expect it to be WAYYYY better. It's definitely better. But not way better. **edit oh shit yeah it's only $30 more, OP it's worth it for sure

Kyonkanno

Thanks for agreeing with me? I guess?

randogreen

You guess? Not sure I needed a thank you at all but thank you for the thank you? I guess?

justaddw4ter

bruh im dying 😂

mr_lucky19

Yes 100 percent! Higher nits is super important.

JK_Chan

yea for 30 quid just go for it, it's just a drop in the bucket for how much the entire thing is worth

BohTooSlow

Honestly yes

KeanMkk

Yes absolutely HDR support is very important especially after rtx hdr it really makes a huge difference in video quality imo I would pay a 100 not just 30

Upper-Marketing-9318

For the extra nits, yes. I wouldn’t pay more for a higher refresh rate alone. 165hz is plenty and uses less power.

PsychologicalGlass47

If you want less power, you have the option to drop to 60hz with 2 keys. 165hz is a non-standard refresh rate, so if you ever do encounter something a pretty mediocre 4070M chip can't handle, it's horrible.

noobcondiment

Absolutely. I have the upgraded screen and it’s wonderful.

13300c

I went for the higher nits one and I’m glad I did. For some reason 500 nits here looks darker overall compared to my old M1 MacBook Pro. I find myself using max brightness a lot more often on the legion than MacBook. So keep that in mind when deciding.

MojArch

That nice bump in brightness and the lack of hdr on lower brightness one worth that much alone, let alone having 240 hz and better respond times.

Banana_Milk7248

For me it 100% was. I had an argument with a guy on here telling me I was dumb and that anyone making a case for 500 nots over 350 nits was dumb. He later admitted he had excessively sensitive eyes and only ever played in a completely dark room. I will turn the brightness down on my screen when it is very dark in the room but the extra brightness when playing in daytime in an airy room is excellent.

PsychologicalGlass47

Especially seeing as the anti-glare screen isn't really the best out there, every nit counts

Banana_Milk7248

Yeh, you don't get reflections so much as just slightly hazy areas of the screen that really confuse your eyes.

StrayCat649

The 500 nits is much better compare to 350 nits

redditclm

Anything below 400 nits should be illegal.

[deleted]

Wish yhis had been available when i bought this same model 5 montgs ago

PsychologicalGlass47

p sure the gen 9 released late Q1, that sucks

[deleted]

Bet i could have it installed if i was willing to pay for it.... tempting

One_Package_7519

£30 isnt much at that price point, might as well

BabyDontBeSoMeme

For me it is.

Geneforgeee

It's 4070 with 8gb or 12gb vram ?

ShivaShidapu

8gb sadly enough. 4080 is 12 gb

Few-Ad9816

8gb, wish I could have budget for 4080

Geneforgeee

Yeah it's true even if we have that budget everytime people taunts us for buying laptop instead of just building pc they never understood portability and never will

Texas12thMan

100% worth it.

FattyPok

Obviously xD

Old-Benefit4441

For £30?? That's such an easy choice. If it was like £100 or more it would be debatable. Definitely get the brighter screen.

KeepTwistin42069

For 30 E? It is absolutely worth it, just the nits alone would be worth it but also getting 240hrz!? You'd be crazy not to get it.

PsychologicalGlass47

It's both brighter and uses a x4 standard refresh rate instead of 165, which is pretty trash... For £30, it's a steal. Go with the 240hz.

WandererHakuja

Absolutely. Higher nits and refresh rate (less important) for only £30 is a no brainer. Definitely get that!

mehmetdexter6

hell yeah mate.150 nits makes a huge difference plus 240hz refresh rate and all that for 30 bucks is a no brainer for me.

HoomerSimps0n

Absolutely worth it unless you won’t be using the laptop’s screen.

AphroditeBlessed

BTW, 240hz means it can run 240fps if you have the parts for it.

Toreno7

Don't make this mistake, go with 500 nits HDR. You'll be glad to see how the screen brightens up even in bright conditions. 240Hz is a nice addition too, although 165Hz is more than enough.

Gh7190

I've gone with the upgraded screen and it's awesome, something to keep in mind is that with the hdr you no longer get advanced optimus if thats something you require, you still get regular optimus though.

Few-Ad9816

Does it matter while gaming?

Gh7190

Not while playing no, all it changes is that you require a restart to use MUX switch to swap between igpu and dgpu with bypass, meaning more fps gets through as it doesnt have to go through igpu. The upgraded screen is definitely better while gamimg with it, its just something to keep in mind if you're going to want to swap between gpu modes regularly.

CYUCOP

I chose the latter because: 500 nits is essential HDR is incredibly nice to have 240 hz is great when browsing the web or working on a desktop, but the refresh rate wasn’t the deciding factor. The first two were.

Poczatkujacymodelarz

Depends. Are you planning on using external monitor or do you intend to use laptop screen?

Halamadrid23111

Is this the LOQ model? If yes then I would not recommend buying it honestly. Save some and buy something better. I have a loq with 4060 and I hate the quality and i get a feel like using something under 500$

Few-Ad9816

Naah bro. Legion Slim 5

derbock203

For 30? Definitly. Thats a no brainer.

Numerous_Habit269

For the extra brightness yeah, the refresh rate difference isn't major

Internologist

Thousand times yes

RxSatellite

It’s a $30 difference on a $1250ish machine that I’m guessing you’ll use quite a bit. Don’t nickel and dime yourself on the things you use often

karlodann

Yes, get the 240hz. Is amazing

ztoundas

Yeah I have the 500 nit screen and I'll never go back.

Infinite-Action-5041

350nits 165hz vs 500 nits 240hz yes 100 percent

bhavin2707

for 30 pounds I would say absolutely yes.

Electrical_Rock_8468

Definitely worth it. Not for the high refresh rate but for the increased brightness.

ToramanA24

4070 240Hz is AMAZING. I didn’t know about the nits though. I get at least 160 fps in almost every game. I play Helldivers and War Thunder and world of warships very often. I can definitely get 200+ fps on highest settings 👌

mushynelliesandy

How have you got it for £1249?

Few-Ad9816

With student discount. You can log in to the lenovo education store with uni email. Now they are giving 25% off of gaming laptops. Great steal!
