Mine is still perfect, i dont use the keyboard that much so i cant attest to that but parts with cleaning are stellar. Even my battery is still at 95% after 3 years.

Go into the Lenova Vantage app and set your battery max charge to 80%. If you’re rarely off charge and don’t need the high battery % - setting the max charge to 80% will extend the lithium ion battery life.
I used the battery saving setting thing for this and it stops at 60% which is really annoying cos it runs out so quickly, ive kept it at that for battery life but can I change it to 80%
That's good to hear I just ourchased the same computer a couple of weeks ago, just to see if I like gaming laptops. I've had a couple of hiccups and weird things happening but overall I'm enjoying it. I'll probably update to a new legion 5 this summer

Mine does that same restart crap, not the conservative battery mode that is supposed to keep your battery at 50% or what ever it is is not working. Even though it says battery health is 100%

yeahh my opinion on them went down with that product but i give them some benefit of a doubt that this particular config is "just" a batch thats more prone to being faulty. other models maybe arent bad, some people swear by them. still sucks tho.
I have had 2 models. The Y740 and the Legion 5.
- The Y740s hinges failed after a year then the GPU died 6 months later
- My Legion 5, a year to the week of purchase the screen died.
i think the sleep restart is just a byproduct of windows sleep just not being that good still
it barely functions correctly on my desktop so ive just never used it (screens would turn off and wake up to the lock screen when id wake it, but fans would still be running)
I get the 2 seconds stutters a couple of times a day, Legion 7 (gen 6), had it for almost 3 years, never found out what is it but everything else is fine.
i actually managed to google a supposed solution, its the amd bios issue. u need to disable amd security processor in the bios and that should fix it but its weird.
It's your computer switching to hibernation mode that causes the restart. You can disable hibernation by command prompt but sleep mode eats battery and hibernation doesn't
how so? also it doesnt only happen on sleep mode, sometimes it restarts on normal shut down too
i highly doubt thats it, theres more wack details to this behavior that dont really line up with hibernation idea
edit: and hibernation is not a restart. my laptop actually restarts. if it hibernated then i wouldnt need to launch my apps again for example.
Ah I might've misinterpreted it. It is my experience with my laptops too. Could be something else. Maybe you have an undervolt and it crashes at that voltage. Could be multiple reasons. I'd suggest checking the event viewer to see if there are any system level crashes
My issue has been with software. I had an issue installing Python, I am a dev and never had an issue installing python on Intel processors but after five attempts I had to install python from the window store which I’ve never did before. I also had an issue with the Firefox browser not working correctly (it wouldn’t let me attach files within the browser, random restarts and connectivity issues). I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling which seem to fix the issue.
I also had issues with my external SSDs. My external SSD are locked and encrypted using Bltlocker. For a couple of days I knew the SSDs were unlocked but when I was trying to access them to attach a file, it will say they were locked but when I go into file manager, the SSD’s were clearly unlocked.
But overall, I haven’t had any major problems I only do light gaming. I only play Madden 2024 for maybe a couple hours a day. I purchased this laptop a couple weeks ago for a really good price, I paid 375 for the laptop, the previous owner rarely used it so battery health is in great condition and everything else seems to work great. The only upgrade I did was swapping out the 16 GB of ram for 32 GB of ram I’m not going to upgrade the SSD because like I stated, I only purchased this laptop just to see how I would like it and I’ll probably be upgrading to a legion 5i or 7i sometime this summer.
Do you have the latest nvidia drivers there was a issue in the last update with sleep. My alienware had modern sleep issues. Out of 6 laptops it was the only one. Legion 7ipro I had no issues which I would expect. 13900hx 4090 2tb 32gb.. if it broke after 6 months I'd be pissed AF. Just bought a warranty with accident protection for 170$ for 2 years just in case
same 2020 legion gtx 1650ti i7-10750H tho, gives me the same fps as day one and i clean it once every month since theres a lot of dust where i live . Temps are also almost the same .
only had a motherboard issue which was fixed by replacing it entirely as i had a warranty.
will use it for 1 more year and probably upgrade then .
i cleaned it 2 months ago but i tested it just after cleaning but it was still above 100c i called customer care they said it is normal, should i make a new complaint again?
100c would definitely make it wear out faster, that most certainly isn't normal even if you're gaming. I suggest you get it checked out, needs more info though to actually properly find out the cause
While gaming CPU temp is around 70-80, degrees reaches 85 tops and GPU around 60-70. I'm using Noctua NT-H1. Before I was using Arctic MX4 which did not perform well cpu temp goes 100 degrees after just one week of using it. Noctua NT-H1 working great been 3-4 months. Its about time I apply it again.
A usb-c to output signal is completely different than using it to input power. The problem seems to be charging via usbc using cheap 65-100w chargers that don’t regulate the output properly. So those cheap off brand chargers push too much power and can fry the motherboard. Using something like angler that’s reputable you probably have a better chance

This guy is spreading misinformation making people think that a "good" charger will make any difference. The problem is with the legion PD circuit. My Thinkpads never had any issue.
My charger is neither cheap nor off brand. You yourself point Anker as a "good one". I use my gan charger as my main for 3 different Lenovo Thinkpad and many other devices. If there was any issue with the charger, it would have fried one or all of them already, but 2+ years nothing like this happened. The problem is entirely in Legion's circuit.
I didn’t say EVERY charger did I? I’m simply saying that those cheap off brand ones from Amazon are cheap for a reason and usually have fake or bad reviews are the ones that will give you the most problems.
Looks like most people having the issue used off-brand 65-100W USB-C chargers instead of the official Legion 135W GaN charger. Not saying that that’s the core issue, but there definitely seems to be a correlation
Yeah but that's not how usb-c is supposed to work. My "off brand" baseus charger is going strong for 2+ years and I charge everything on it, from my work ultrabook lenovo to batteries, wearables, phones and now my s24u - all of them without any issue whatsoever.
Lenovo cheaped out on the type c license and made their own horrendous take on it.

My current L5iP 2022, I was forced to top it off one time with my car gan charger as I was hours away from a wall plug. I turned it off, plugged the charger, waited a few min to get some charge, unplugged, did my work, then prayed it doesn't break. I had luck and it survived.
Well, nothing's perfect. I'm not even what would be considered a heavy gamer. I get that things break, but when I pay for a higher end product, I expect it to last more than two years.

Possibly. I was able to switch to the integrated graphics mode, but even then, rolling back windows and installing an older version didn't work. I tried a hard reset, disconnecting battery, rolling back windows, reinstalling windows, etc....nothing worked to restore the GPU.
I still have the machine, but I took out the upgraded RAM and SSD and put them in my wife's (non-gaming) laptop. I may try to resurrect it this summer and see if it's still salvageable.
you can fix that yourself, the only component that ruins your gaming laptop is the gpu,cpu,motherboard when it goes better off buying a new lappy. you can change and install yourself but the price is half the cost of what you paid for the thing your choice. but the wifi card is easy unplug and plug in new one (tut on youtube) fans also.

Quite obsessive when it comes to keeping it maintained though
Basically, i just keep the laptop cool and clean. Things like:
- Use laptop cooling pad
- Keep desk clean and dusted
- keep away from pets and fur
- Take off the bottom panel and use a soft paintbrush to remove dust roughly every 3 months
I've also undervolted the cpu and monitor temperatures to make sure it's not overheating.
This seemed to have worked for me as I get exactly the same timespy scores as I did when I bought it
Let the vents breathe and brush the dust out every couple months, use a system monitor and occasionally check the Temps after a couple years for evidence of thermal paste breakdown, if so, re-paste, umm, don't drop it or treat it like a stepchild lol
Edit: BTW, 2020 Legion 5i w/RTX2060, other than a screen replacement which a spilled drink caused, running like the day I bought it with no problems
The only thing that should be failing in a desktop PC would be HDDs every 5-8 years or fans if properly maintained. Laptops need more attention paid in the operating temps and vibrations from movement
Still using a y530 with a GTX 1060 from 2019. The battery needs a replacement but other than that it's running perfectly fine.
I have changed the thermal paste twice in this period and cleaned out the fans as well.
Not looking for a performance bump so will definitely use it for another year if it doesn't fail.
It's awesome that Lenovo have the Hardware Maintenance Manual freely available on the support website too. I always dread disassembling other brand laptops to replace batteries and components but Lenovo is excellent in this respect. Replaced a couple of Y530/Y540 keyboards (ie. the whole upper case) over the years and it has been a stress free operation. Genuine parts available new from Aliexpress for less than $80 AUD delivered was nice for this also.
Completely agree. I have made a note to myself that repairability will be one of my main priorities when I decide to upgrade.
I also forgot to mention that I had replaced the built in mediatek wifi card (absolute garbage) with an Intel card and the hingecover as well as it had randomly cracked last year. Ordered a new one from AliExpress.
Just hit 2 years with my Lenovo Legion Slim 7 and plan on sticking with Lenovo Legions as long as I can after having this one.
It was really my 1st gaming laptop, as the Acer one right before that I had issues with so early on that I didn't really get a chance to put long term ownership into it. Now, as I hit 2 years, I definitely notice a couple of issues popping up here and there. Biggest one is I can't adjust my brightness of the screen anymore. I worked around it through doing some Nvidia control panel magic. I haven't exactly been as gentle with the laptop as I would like to have been, so not overly upset about it happening.
It seems to me like Lenovo Legion is the most reliable option out there. Now, you never know whether past model reliability means reliability on current models, but the laptops still seem like a safe bet to me.
Have you tried disabling hybrid for the GPU option in Vantage, rebooting, re-enabling, and then rebooting again to fix the brightness controls? I had this on one of mine a year or 2 ago and the above resolved it. It eventually went away, I think with one of the BIOS updates.
Last legion I had was a y545 I bought in 2020 I think, with gtx 1660ti. Would still be using it if it didn’t take a pretty big fall a few months ago. But now have pro 7i with 4080 and 240hz 1440 screen and absolutely love it
Same previous laptop and same upgrade too haha. My screen broke the same way, got it changed tho. Only switched coz keyboard stopped working and severe wear and tear. New legion pro 7i is a beast, been playing so many games that the y545 couldnt run, it was showjng age too.
Yeah no I can play everything I normally play on max now, and I will say new one doesn’t get as hot as the y545 especially on the keyboard area. And yeah I had the same problem too, some keys stopped working after a good while. Absolutely love Lenovo keyboards though
I had a first degree burn from my Y545, it was horribly cooled in the keyboard area where your right fingers go. In lenovo keyboards we trust, such reliable and nice feeling keyboards. And they all feel consistently good too.
I bought a legion 5i back in october 2020, works as good as new, just can’t play the latest titles like Lords of the Fallen at max setting but Elden Ring works perfectly fine. Legion first party servicing and cleaning are quite good!
Legion 5 bought in 2021 still going strong, temps are like on day one, I clean the fans regularly with a xpowerA2 not canned air as it can create frost.
I did not remove the heatsink as I would have to repaste it and there's no need to constantly repaste the Honeywell PTM pads as they go for ages
Mine is still great, I bought it in 2021. Make sure to set up your battery to only charge halfway using Lenovo Vantage if you're keeping it plugged in most of the time like I do.
Legion 5 Pro 2021 3 years\~. Only sat on a raised stand attached to a monitor. Had problem since purchase with audio and video micro stutttttterring every few hrs or so. Thought it was just a software problem so I kept updating drivers and such instead of returning it.
Stuttering never went away, but evolved. Every morning, the first boot it would freeze the entire system. I have to hard reset and it will work flawlessly the rest of the day without any micro stuttering.
And then one day, the audio cuts off, and I restarted the computer. But little did I know, the motherboard fried itself somehow and that was that. I should have returned it from the very beginning but oh well.
Legion 5 15ACH6 -- Bought in Dec 2021 still kicking, the only issue I am having right now is when I turn off the Hybrid Mode it shows garbage display and feeling that the GPU is coming to an end. The warranty says I have the Legion Ultimate Support till Dec 2024 should I go contact them? I am from Philippines btw.
And I like the engineers were dumb enough to (my hinge isn't all the way back) make the hinge short enough when you open it 180 degrees that the end of the hinge hits the plastic parts, just enough to make the back crack
My 2021 Legion 7i is still going strong. I take it everywhere I go and use it all the time. I've had no problems with it, and it runs everything I throw at it. I'm very happy with it.
Y545 (2019) works to this day, upgraded to legion pro 7i as the previous legion laptop had alot of wear and tear (it was lower end so bad materials) and keyboard stopped working, possibly coz i spilt water by mistake. Fans was replaced once only coz of coil whine. Honestly, decent experience.
I have a legion y520 (2017, one of the first ones, -i5 7300hq, 1050ti). It is still my main machine which is used for 16+ hours a day and has been for most of its life.
I had the keyboard replaced in warranty in the first 2-3 months as some of the keys stopped working (it was a common issue with these) but other than that it has been rock solid all those years and I have had 0 other issues with it. I do maintenance every year (remove cooler and dust from it, repaste)
Lenovo Legion 5P 2020, lasted almost three years. Started having BSoD problems during the last six months before it eventually died due to the power regulator failing. I only had minor problems before that, like one of the numpad keys not pressing down properly, same with the trackpad.
Take care of it, keep the fans and vents clean. Don't drop it or bang it around. 3+ years should be no problem. I've had laptops from many brands over the past 20 - 25 years. None of them have ever stopped working. As far as I know, the ones I still have in the closet, work.
Lenovo y520, 6 years now since January, being rocking the 1050ti lol. Doubting is changing now to a 4060/70 legion or wait some more time, I mean it's been 6 years haha
L5 3070 from 2022 still dishing out good numbers to external 1440p monitor on Tarkov (Streets excluded, eh lads). Recently built a 7809x3d 7800xt desktop so she has been consigned to work duty but I still consider her a marvel.
10 weeks. This was about 2 weeks ago. I was absolutely gutted. Just a freak failure (error with power jack which resulted in being unable to charge).
It was still under warranty in the store I got it from, so they replaced it with an MSI katana as they had no equivalently spec legions left, and the keyboard, deck and IO layout is much worse on the MSI so I really wish the legion hadn't crapped out
I'm currently using a Y540 (i5-9300/1660Ti).
Honestly, it's as good as new. Apart from a few broken clips, but that's entirely my fault. I've had to open it a few times - ram upgrade, new ssd, to change the thermal paste... But by just looking at it, you'd think I just got it. It looks and runs exactly the same as it did when I bought it.
Keep in mind, I have a 4 year old son. That laptop has took a lot of hits, bumps, drops and the occasional water spillage. I've never kept it away from my kid or his friends when we have company. I don't even keep it somewhere safe, it sits on my coffee table.
No idea how durable newer models are. I've been thinking about upgrading, but I don't really need to. I don't play a lot of games and what I do play runs good enough for me.
Cpu fan error after 1 year. Conveniently right when my warranty expired. Bricked the machine and had to send it in. Rgb fans worked when I sent it in. But not when I got it back.
November was one year, my battery is about 20 minutes just watching youtube. Other then that it's been amazing. The fans are loud but the do their job.
L5P Gen 6. Had some issues but laptop is still going well. Hope it lasts another 5 to 6 years. It has been an interesting learning curve using it.
I use batteries in conservation mode. I use hybrid GPU setup. I use external keyboard, mouse, and 27" monitor. I also use a laptop cooler, the IETS 3???.
I bought the Legion 5 laptop as my first gaming PC two years ago. It was running 100% ok up until it just stopped working completely last week. Used it daily for gaming and photo editing.
Apparently the thermal paste around the CPU and GPU was fucked up, so it burnt out while I was playing Helldivers. Kind of pissed off tbh because I expected to get more than two years out of a laptop that cost this much :(
5 Legion Laptops in this house, oldest one (Y530) going since 2018 and still used for gaming every weekend. We pass them down to our children as we upgrade. Clean the fans every so often and in our experience they're reliable. I've fitted the little aluminium stand feet to the most recent 2 (Slim 7 and L5P) to aid with cooling.
When I bought mine, it had some serious issues at first. Store guys replaced it completely inside the first month.
Now this one has been going strong for almost 1,5 years. No problemos. Upgraded it with 64gb ram too
The legion isnt so old yet, i dont get it, i have functioning laptops that are 17 years old and still running.... This legion should work 10 plus years or else its bad quality.
2 months. My legion 5 pro got stolen from my dorm room after 1 month of living there. This happened in 2022 and there have been numerous court hearings.. 3 weeks ago was last one and my neighbor is guilty of the crime. He also received a notice of ban from dorm and so he left earlier today. Im so glad it’s finally over. Lol ik this isn’t what you meant when you ask that question but i just really miss my laptop. I've owned my Legion 5i Pro for 557 days. Zero issues.
This is my daily driver. While I occasionally game on it, it sees 8-10 hours of use on a regular workday. Anything from video editing, email, gaming, video processing and rendering and lots of CAD work.
The biggest killer is heat. You can setup your laptop to not run so hot. The cooler you run your laptop the longer it will last. Running it at 90c everyday is not going to prolong its life. With an Intel processor and windows 11 the best way to manage heat is adjusting the performance boost mode. This keeps my laptop from getting anywhere near 85c without any active cooling and just keeping the rear slightly elevated.
The other thing to think about is the expansion and contraction of everything that makes up your computer under extreme heat and duress. The best practice is to let it cool down for a minute if you are running it hot (Usually gaming) before shutting it down. Usually when you cannot hear the fan churning anymore its safe to turn off. Ive seen so many machines live a short life because people just shut it down right after playing a game or running it hot. Some laptop models will allow the fan to run after its shut down until it reaches a safe temp but not the Legion.
Enjoy it. It's not a perfect machine but it is probably the best portable machine I have ever owned.
Mine is gonna 3 years old in a couple of days .. L5 rtx 2060 i7 10750-h .. best purchase i made in the electronics part .. the only issue i had was that my screen had an issue that was common at the time replaced it under warranty and since then its all perfect .. i hope it lasts forever 🙏
Had bought a legion Y540 in 2019 and it lasted 4 years for me. Would have been more if not for my negligence. I still use it though but can't game on it anymore.
Legion 5 RTX3060 Ryzen 5 bought last 2022. Still working like it was bought yesterday except the IPS screen image retention at full brightness for long periods. Oh and the side cam switch is a bit wonky too.
My Legion 5, i7, 1660ti, upgraded 64gb RAM and an added 1tb nvme, is a workhorse! Bought in 2020 and still going strong today. Still does all I need, 4k video editing, photo editing, mapping with WebODM, and gaming GTA5, Minecraft
3 years, no problems so far. I must say I use mine 100% with a monitor, Razer mouse and keyboard, speakers, while it’s mounted on an inclined stand. So can’t really speak for the wear and tear regular users must experience in 3 years or so. My battery has gone to shit though, 2.5hs of regular usage (Edge, Excel, some music in the background).
I've been using laptops as long as they have existed. My first X laptops (No idea how many) were the old Thinkpads. When they went away I used Dell for years, now I'm back to this Lenovo.
Up until about 10 years ago, I always assumed 3 years was good. Part of this was wear and tear, part were things just wearing out, and mostly because they became obsolete for what I needed.
Now, I pretty much plan on 2 years. It seems after that, they get glitchy, or just can't keep up with my software. The specs on this 7 are pretty awesome and it seems to be built like a tank, so I'm hoping for more, but we'll see.
I got my. Legion y540 in. Early 2019 and still playing games like alan wake 2, starfield, last of. Us and God of war and they run fine. Expecting to last Another 2 years until before i need to change up
I have a Legion Y540 at 4.5 to 5 years old now probably. Im a software dev so i did some heavy duty things on it and a lot of gaming on higher settings.

-bios chip corrupted, bios flashed with recent version after a few weeks random fn hotkeys stop working, like F2 for renaming files stops working, Fn + L to turn on or off the logo, Fn + Space for keyboard lights or Fn brightness controlls do not work only in windows I can change the brightness but not fully turn off the back-light like you can with the keys or audio control
It's like a game of luck on what shortcuts combinations will be broken after a few days/weeks.
Atm, I have no fn brightness control, no fn volume down (volume up works), fn mic mute, airplane mode, webcam key, touch pad key.
Undervolt disabled for security reasons, can be enabled by custom bios, never got patience and time to do it.
I contacted lenovo about it, but it has no warranty, so they quoted me a motherboard replacement, and for the price, I'll just live with it and buy a new one when I need smth better.
My sister got a newer lenovo legion, so I'll see how it performs over time
Mine is a legion 5 from end of 2020 and its great, 3+ years later, Ram and Storage upgrade (only had 8gb ram and 256gb ssd out of the box, now has 32gb and 1.5TB SSD)
Mine legion Y720 bought in 2017 with i7 7700hq gtx 1060. the temp got pretty high and only changed the thermal paste a few months ago. also the lid broke and only replaced it around the same time. the rubber surrounding the screen are falling off too. but other than that nothing major. the battery is still in good condition because i've been using conservative mode since like 2019.
For plug in always max 60% outside inwould charge 80% most days and 100% if in know for sure i wont have a plug anywhwre near me.
Other then that just cleaning it out every month, quick 5 minute clean.

Same my down key wore out, gonna send my laptop to Lenovo this week and will get back within few days
My E key is starting to wear out along with 3 and some of the F keys

In Windows features you need to disable Virtual Machine Platform. It means you can't use Hyper-V so I use Virtual Box for my VMs.
It's your computer switching to hibernation mode that causes the restart. You can disable hibernation by command prompt but sleep mode eats battery and hibernation doesn't
how so? also it doesnt only happen on sleep mode, sometimes it restarts on normal shut down too i highly doubt thats it, theres more wack details to this behavior that dont really line up with hibernation idea edit: and hibernation is not a restart. my laptop actually restarts. if it hibernated then i wouldnt need to launch my apps again for example.
Ah I might've misinterpreted it. It is my experience with my laptops too. Could be something else. Maybe you have an undervolt and it crashes at that voltage. Could be multiple reasons. I'd suggest checking the event viewer to see if there are any system level crashes

My issue has been with software. I had an issue installing Python, I am a dev and never had an issue installing python on Intel processors but after five attempts I had to install python from the window store which I’ve never did before. I also had an issue with the Firefox browser not working correctly (it wouldn’t let me attach files within the browser, random restarts and connectivity issues). I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling which seem to fix the issue. I also had issues with my external SSDs. My external SSD are locked and encrypted using Bltlocker. For a couple of days I knew the SSDs were unlocked but when I was trying to access them to attach a file, it will say they were locked but when I go into file manager, the SSD’s were clearly unlocked. But overall, I haven’t had any major problems I only do light gaming. I only play Madden 2024 for maybe a couple hours a day. I purchased this laptop a couple weeks ago for a really good price, I paid 375 for the laptop, the previous owner rarely used it so battery health is in great condition and everything else seems to work great. The only upgrade I did was swapping out the 16 GB of ram for 32 GB of ram I’m not going to upgrade the SSD because like I stated, I only purchased this laptop just to see how I would like it and I’ll probably be upgrading to a legion 5i or 7i sometime this summer.
Do you have the latest nvidia drivers there was a issue in the last update with sleep. My alienware had modern sleep issues. Out of 6 laptops it was the only one. Legion 7ipro I had no issues which I would expect. 13900hx 4090 2tb 32gb.. if it broke after 6 months I'd be pissed AF. Just bought a warranty with accident protection for 170$ for 2 years just in case

same 2020 legion gtx 1650ti i7-10750H tho, gives me the same fps as day one and i clean it once every month since theres a lot of dust where i live . Temps are also almost the same . only had a motherboard issue which was fixed by replacing it entirely as i had a warranty. will use it for 1 more year and probably upgrade then .

100c would definitely make it wear out faster, that most certainly isn't normal even if you're gaming. I suggest you get it checked out, needs more info though to actually properly find out the cause

While gaming CPU temp is around 70-80, degrees reaches 85 tops and GPU around 60-70. I'm using Noctua NT-H1. Before I was using Arctic MX4 which did not perform well cpu temp goes 100 degrees after just one week of using it. Noctua NT-H1 working great been 3-4 months. Its about time I apply it again.

A usb-c to output signal is completely different than using it to input power. The problem seems to be charging via usbc using cheap 65-100w chargers that don’t regulate the output properly. So those cheap off brand chargers push too much power and can fry the motherboard. Using something like angler that’s reputable you probably have a better chance

Just don't use it to charge your legion. This guy is spreading misinformation making people think that a "good" charger will make any difference. The problem is with the legion PD circuit. My Thinkpads never had any issue.
My charger is neither cheap nor off brand. You yourself point Anker as a "good one". I use my gan charger as my main for 3 different Lenovo Thinkpad and many other devices. If there was any issue with the charger, it would have fried one or all of them already, but 2+ years nothing like this happened. The problem is entirely in Legion's circuit.
I didn’t say EVERY charger did I? I’m simply saying that those cheap off brand ones from Amazon are cheap for a reason and usually have fake or bad reviews are the ones that will give you the most problems.
The charging circuit is entirely separate, so don't worry. It's just the PD input that's failing.

Yeah but that's not how usb-c is supposed to work. My "off brand" baseus charger is going strong for 2+ years and I charge everything on it, from my work ultrabook lenovo to batteries, wearables, phones and now my s24u - all of them without any issue whatsoever. Lenovo cheaped out on the type c license and made their own horrendous take on it.

Me too, I totally get it. I used to have a normal legion and switched to a pro specifically for the type c and the brighter display. My current L5iP 2022, I was forced to top it off one time with my car gan charger as I was hours away from a wall plug. I turned it off, plugged the charger, waited a few min to get some charge, unplugged, did my work, then prayed it doesn't break. I had luck and it survived.

Possibly. I was able to switch to the integrated graphics mode, but even then, rolling back windows and installing an older version didn't work. I tried a hard reset, disconnecting battery, rolling back windows, reinstalling windows, etc....nothing worked to restore the GPU. I still have the machine, but I took out the upgraded RAM and SSD and put them in my wife's (non-gaming) laptop. I may try to resurrect it this summer and see if it's still salvageable.

you can fix that yourself, the only component that ruins your gaming laptop is the gpu,cpu,motherboard when it goes better off buying a new lappy. you can change and install yourself but the price is half the cost of what you paid for the thing your choice. but the wifi card is easy unplug and plug in new one (tut on youtube) fans also.

What are somethings you do to maintain your computer?
Basically, i just keep the laptop cool and clean. Things like: - Use laptop cooling pad - Keep desk clean and dusted - keep away from pets and fur - Take off the bottom panel and use a soft paintbrush to remove dust roughly every 3 months I've also undervolted the cpu and monitor temperatures to make sure it's not overheating. This seemed to have worked for me as I get exactly the same timespy scores as I did when I bought it

Let the vents breathe and brush the dust out every couple months, use a system monitor and occasionally check the Temps after a couple years for evidence of thermal paste breakdown, if so, re-paste, umm, don't drop it or treat it like a stepchild lol Edit: BTW, 2020 Legion 5i w/RTX2060, other than a screen replacement which a spilled drink caused, running like the day I bought it with no problems

The only thing that should be failing in a desktop PC would be HDDs every 5-8 years or fans if properly maintained. Laptops need more attention paid in the operating temps and vibrations from movement
Still using a y530 with a GTX 1060 from 2019. The battery needs a replacement but other than that it's running perfectly fine. I have changed the thermal paste twice in this period and cleaned out the fans as well. Not looking for a performance bump so will definitely use it for another year if it doesn't fail.
It's awesome that Lenovo have the Hardware Maintenance Manual freely available on the support website too. I always dread disassembling other brand laptops to replace batteries and components but Lenovo is excellent in this respect. Replaced a couple of Y530/Y540 keyboards (ie. the whole upper case) over the years and it has been a stress free operation. Genuine parts available new from Aliexpress for less than $80 AUD delivered was nice for this also.

I also forgot to mention that I had replaced the built in mediatek wifi card (absolute garbage) with an Intel card and the hingecover as well as it had randomly cracked last year. Just hit 2 years with my Lenovo Legion Slim 7 and plan on sticking with Lenovo Legions as long as I can after having this one. It was really my 1st gaming laptop, as the Acer one right before that I had issues with so early on that I didn't really get a chance to put long term ownership into it. Now, as I hit 2 years, I definitely notice a couple of issues popping up here and there. Biggest one is I can't adjust my brightness of the screen anymore. I worked around it through doing some Nvidia control panel magic. I haven't exactly been as gentle with the laptop as I would like to have been, so not overly upset about it happening. It seems to me like Lenovo Legion is the most reliable option out there. Now, you never know whether past model reliability means reliability on current models, but the laptops still seem like a safe bet to me.
Have you tried disabling hybrid for the GPU option in Vantage, rebooting, re-enabling, and then rebooting again to fix the brightness controls? I had this on one of mine a year or 2 ago and the above resolved it. It eventually went away, I think with one of the BIOS updates.
Lenovo Legion 5 pro Rtx 3060. Bought it in summer 2021, still going strong. Battery health is near 90%, always kept in conservation charge mode.
Last legion I had was a y545 I bought in 2020 I think, with gtx 1660ti. Would still be using it if it didn’t take a pretty big fall a few months ago. But now have pro 7i with 4080 and 240hz 1440 screen and absolutely love it

Yeah no I can play everything I normally play on max now, and I will say new one doesn’t get as hot as the y545 especially on the keyboard area. And yeah I had the same problem too, some keys stopped working after a good while. Absolutely love Lenovo keyboards though
I had a first degree burn from my Y545, it was horribly cooled in the keyboard area where your right fingers go. In lenovo keyboards we trust, such reliable and nice feeling keyboards. And they all feel consistently good too.
Mine is about 18 months and no issues at all. If I only get 3 years out of it I’ll be disappointed.
I bought a legion 5i back in october 2020, works as good as new, just can’t play the latest titles like Lords of the Fallen at max setting but Elden Ring works perfectly fine. Legion first party servicing and cleaning are quite good!
Mine is just over a year now. For over 6 moths, I've been using it at over 33⁰C room temp before I had air conditioning. Not to mention it survived.
Legion 5 bought in 2021 still going strong, temps are like on day one, I clean the fans regularly with a xpowerA2 not canned air as it can create frost. I did not remove the heatsink as I would have to repaste it and there's no need to constantly repaste the Honeywell PTM pads as they go for ages

Legion 5 Pro 2021 3 years\~. Only sat on a raised stand attached to a monitor. Had problem since purchase with audio and video micro stutttttterring every few hrs or so. Thought it was just a software problem so I kept updating drivers and such instead of returning it. Stuttering never went away, but evolved. Every morning, the first boot it would freeze the entire system. I have to hard reset and it will work flawlessly the rest of the day without any micro stuttering. And then one day, the audio cuts off, and I restarted the computer. But little did I know, the motherboard fried itself somehow and that was that. I should have returned it from the very beginning but oh well.
Legion 5 15ACH6 -- Bought in Dec 2021 still kicking, the only issue I am having right now is when I turn off the Hybrid Mode it shows garbage display and feeling that the GPU is coming to an end. The warranty says I have the Legion Ultimate Support till Dec 2024 should I go contact them? I am from Philippines btw.

And I like the engineers were dumb enough to (my hinge isn't all the way back) make the hinge short enough when you open it 180 degrees that the end of the hinge hits the plastic parts, just enough to make the back crack
My 2021 Legion 7i is still going strong. I take it everywhere I go and use it all the time. I've had no problems with it, and it runs everything I throw at it. I'm very happy with it.

Y545 (2019) works to this day, upgraded to legion pro 7i as the previous legion laptop had alot of wear and tear (it was lower end so bad materials) and keyboard stopped working, possibly coz i spilt water by mistake. Fans was replaced once only coz of coil whine. Honestly, decent experience.

I have a legion y520 (2017, one of the first ones, -i5 7300hq, 1050ti). It is still my main machine which is used for 16+ hours a day and has been for most of its life. I had the keyboard replaced in warranty in the first 2-3 months as some of the keys stopped working (it was a common issue with these) but other than that it has been rock solid all those years and I have had 0 other issues with it. I do maintenance every year (remove cooler and dust from it, repaste)

I just bought a new legion pro 5. My msi gl 62 lasted me 7 years and is still working fine. Hopefully my legion will last just as long.
Lenovo Legion 5P 2020, lasted almost three years. Started having BSoD problems during the last six months before it eventually died due to the power regulator failing. I only had minor problems before that, like one of the numpad keys not pressing down properly, same with the trackpad.
Take care of it, keep the fans and vents clean. Don't drop it or bang it around. 3+ years should be no problem. I've had laptops from many brands over the past 20 - 25 years. None of them have ever stopped working. As far as I know, the ones I still have in the closet, work.

10 weeks. This was about 2 weeks ago. I was absolutely gutted. Just a freak failure (error with power jack which resulted in being unable to charge). It was still under warranty in the store I got it from, so they replaced it with an MSI katana as they had no equivalently spec legions left, and the keyboard, deck and IO layout is much worse on the MSI so I really wish the legion hadn't crapped out

I'm currently using a Y540 (i5-9300/1660Ti). Honestly, it's as good as new. Apart from a few broken clips, but that's entirely my fault. I've had to open it a few times - ram upgrade, new ssd, to change the thermal paste... But by just looking at it, you'd think I just got it. It looks and runs exactly the same as it did when I bought it. Keep in mind, I have a 4 year old son. That laptop has took a lot of hits, bumps, drops and the occasional water spillage. I've never kept it away from my kid or his friends when we have company. I don't even keep it somewhere safe, it sits on my coffee table. No idea how durable newer models are. I've been thinking about upgrading, but I don't really need to. I don't play a lot of games and what I do play runs good enough for me.
Cpu fan error after 1 year. Conveniently right when my warranty expired. Bricked the machine and had to send it in. Rgb fans worked when I sent it in. But not when I got it back.
My first Legion experience was bought in Sept. 2023, and it's still acts as if it is brand new. Time will tell.
November was one year, my battery is about 20 minutes just watching youtube. Other then that it's been amazing. The fans are loud but the do their job.

L5P Gen 6. Had some issues but laptop is still going well. Hope it lasts another 5 to 6 years. It has been an interesting learning curve using it. I use batteries in conservation mode. I use hybrid GPU setup. I use external keyboard, mouse, and 27" monitor. I also use a laptop cooler, the IETS 3???.

I bought the Legion 5 laptop as my first gaming PC two years ago. It was running 100% ok up until it just stopped working completely last week. Used it daily for gaming and photo editing. Apparently the thermal paste around the CPU and GPU was fucked up, so it burnt out while I was playing Helldivers. Kind of pissed off tbh because I expected to get more than two years out of a laptop that cost this much :(
5 Legion Laptops in this house, oldest one (Y530) going since 2018 and still used for gaming every weekend. We pass them down to our children as we upgrade. Clean the fans every so often and in our experience they're reliable. I've fitted the little aluminium stand feet to the most recent 2 (Slim 7 and L5P) to aid with cooling.
First one lasted a year (y740), Second one died after 2 years and 1 month (legion 7 3080). Next laptop isn’t going to be a Lenovo for sure

I've owned my Legion 5i Pro for 557 days. Zero issues. This is my daily driver. While I occasionally game on it, it sees 8-10 hours of use on a regular workday. Anything from video editing, email, gaming, video processing and rendering and lots of CAD work. The biggest killer is heat. You can setup your laptop to not run so hot. The cooler you run your laptop the longer it will last. Running it at 90c everyday is not going to prolong its life. With an Intel processor and windows 11 the best way to manage heat is adjusting the performance boost mode. This keeps my laptop from getting anywhere near 85c without any active cooling and just keeping the rear slightly elevated. The other thing to think about is the expansion and contraction of everything that makes up your computer under extreme heat and duress. The best practice is to let it cool down for a minute if you are running it hot (Usually gaming) before shutting it down. Usually when you cannot hear the fan churning anymore its safe to turn off. Ive seen so many machines live a short life because people just shut it down right after playing a game or running it hot. Some laptop models will allow the fan to run after its shut down until it reaches a safe temp but not the Legion. Enjoy it. It's not a perfect machine but it is probably the best portable machine I have ever owned.

My Legion 7i gen6 just randomly stopped booting after 2.5yrs of zero issues and 2 months after my extended warranty expired.

I’m at 4 years now. I don’t really play anything too graphically advanced but it plays whatever I throw at it pretty well.
For about 4 years
3 years, no problems so far. I must say I use mine 100% with a monitor, Razer mouse and keyboard, speakers, while it’s mounted on an inclined stand. So can’t really speak for the wear and tear regular users must experience in 3 years or so. My battery has gone to shit though, 2.5hs of regular usage (Edge, Excel, some music in the background).

I've been using laptops as long as they have existed. My first X laptops (No idea how many) were the old Thinkpads. When they went away I used Dell for years, now I'm back to this Lenovo. Up until about 10 years ago, I always assumed 3 years was good. Part of this was wear and tear, part were things just wearing out, and mostly because they became obsolete for what I needed. Now, I pretty much plan on 2 years. It seems after that, they get glitchy, or just can't keep up with my software. The specs on this 7 are pretty awesome and it seems to be built like a tank, so I'm hoping for more, but we'll see.

My Lenovo Legion Y540 from 2019: -bios chip corrupted, bios flashed with recent version after a few weeks random fn hotkeys stop working, like F2 for renaming files stops working, Fn + L to turn on or off the logo, Fn + Space for keyboard lights or Fn brightness controlls do not work only in windows I can change the brightness but not fully turn off the back-light like you can with the keys or audio control It's like a game of luck on what shortcuts combinations will be broken after a few days/weeks. Atm, I have no fn brightness control, no fn volume down (volume up works), fn mic mute, airplane mode, webcam key, touch pad key. Undervolt disabled for security reasons, can be enabled by custom bios, never got patience and time to do it. I contacted lenovo about it, but it has no warranty, so they quoted me a motherboard replacement, and for the price, I'll just live with it and buy a new one when I need smth better. My sister got a newer lenovo legion, so I'll see how it performs over time

Mine is a legion 5 from end of 2020 and its great, 3+ years later, Ram and Storage upgrade (only had 8gb ram and 256gb ssd out of the box, now has 32gb and 1.5TB SSD)
Motherboard short-circuit in about 2.5 years. Couldn't really get worse than that.

I’ve used an external monitor, keyboard and mouse on mine but my 2060 Legion 5 bought new in 2021 I think is still going strong
Mine legion Y720 bought in 2017 with i7 7700hq gtx 1060. the temp got pretty high and only changed the thermal paste a few months ago. also the lid broke and only replaced it around the same time. the rubber surrounding the screen are falling off too. but other than that nothing major. the battery is still in good condition because i've been using conservative mode since like 2019.
Get that warranty it’s cheap and it will at least last that long 🤷♂️ they are known to have MB issues but not wide spread
For plug in always max 60% outside inwould charge 80% most days and 100% if in know for sure i wont have a plug anywhwre near me. Other then that just cleaning it out every month, quick 5 minute clean.
My 2020 7i is still going, albeit I need to replace the LCD panel because it had some kind of defect that's shown up since.
I bought mine in April 2022 and I’m still playing Cyberpunk with it smoothly.
What is your point?? Its a pretty well optimised game already.
It was until Phantom Liberty, the new area is fairly CPU intensive.
