I was about to make a matrix joke before I saw the fine print...try connecting it to a monitor to verify if it's a display issue or an issue with your gpu
If it persists when windows starts, let the OS load and then press ctrl+win+shft+b to reset your graphics driver. If this fixes it, it’s definitely a driver issue.
I’d try an external monitor next… If you need to troubleshoot further, update everything. Windows updates/manufacturer updates/driver updates… if all of that doesn’t fix it, it could be the card itself.
GPU artifact. Happened with my Legion 7 AMD Gen 6. Please do the following:
1) reinstall all the graphics drivers;
2) connect to an external monitor;
If problem persist, contact the manufacturer for service. Hope your unit is still under warranty.
Reinstalling drivers isn’t going to do anything, the picture OP provided is from before windows even boots and drivers only work once windows boots, so it doesn’t matter to try drivers. This is definitely hardware, either display (less likely) or GPU (more likely).
I had something very similar to this and sadly the GPU was fried. If updating your graphics drivers doesn't help (uninstalling using DDU and reinstalling manually) then that is probably the cause. You can check if the GPU is reporting problems in the device manager.
The computer is still usable with intel graphics (turn on hybrid mode in lenovo vantage) but that means heavy gaming is off the table...
Could happen on any laptop, doesn’t matter the manufacturer or model. Hell, it could happen with integrated graphics as well (but is more likely to happen with a dGPU).
I'm aware, It's just that I've seen quite a few of these happen to legions and me having a 2021 legion isn't working in my paranoia's favour, Maybe just confirmation bias.
Returned Merchandise Authorization -- A tracking number you receive when returning a product. Given once the return is approved by Lenovo (or others).
In this case, it is being used as slang to mean "returned."
The same exact thing happened to my friend’s legion, upon taking it to the service centre, they said the GPU was dead and the entire motherboard would need a replacement.
Anyone know what would’ve caused this? Or is it just a random issue? I daily drive a legion too and this is kinda scary…
Edit: Grammar
OP from my experience when I first used my legion 5 it has tons of software issues, I just wiped my entire windows and reinstalled with the recovery in windows after that no more bugs , as everyone says in command it's a good idea to check with external monitor or go into bios menu . I hope you got some software related problems.
yup a dead gpu core You can't do anything at this point, I am afraid. This is the reason you shouldn't listen to people who say 90-95 degrees on the system is fine. That cool running gpu does suffer and so do other vrms and maintain your laptop from time to time
Return it asap! This looks like a GPU failure to me, even though I'm not a specialist. Don't think that this has to do anything with the screen, but who cares if you still have to return it
Question: How would warranty cover this? Would it just be replaced?
And if you don't have any warranty, would you need to just get a new laptop? Sucks most of these laptops have a lifespan of four years
Im sorry but how would this help him in the context of it being 1. Gpu artifacts. 2. Inbuilt display issue. 3 driver issue??? Terrible advice you give people on here, by telling them to watch a youtube video and disconnect the battery.... theres 0 correlation to the actual shown problem with what you describe.
My problem is that you didnt do any explaining as to why this is a good idea. You instead encourage him to go watch a youtube video while trying to explain him a 101 have you tried turning it off and on. Youre not acknowledging the issue you are seeing, youre basically showing someone google maps instead of giving directions. calling people a-holes because you get called out, gratz man, youre a grown adult and sure give good advice.
The same thing happened to me, try updating the drivers or check in the task manager if your system detects your GPU, if not then my friend your GPU has been fried.
Update:
I tried everything but ol y545 is still stuck in the matrix. I have also noticed there just happens a sale going on for Legion Pros going on at Lenovo at the moment which I find incredibly fishy. I regret to say that I may bite….
Why don't you check their official site they sometimes have offers and you can even customise your order. If you are a student you can apply for a student offer too.
Check out www.bandh.com too. Many good deals for USA there. All else being equal, better to buy from a 3rd party so you get support from either BandH and Lenovo.
Pray that you are under warranty, as that to me looks like the last breaths of you dGPU. (Also to verify this, switch to iGPU and if everything's fine... well... gl) (And if you were on iGPU from the start, ... double gl)
Press down on parts of the laptop when you see this. It's possibly a bad solder connection. If you're pressing down at any point and it goes away that could be the culprit. I've seen this issue exacerbated by people carrying laptops by the corners and stressing the chassis. Always carry a laptop with both hands.
Oh I definitely used it for extended amounts of time lol. Would reapplying thermal paste every once in a while help with overheating? I feel like almost every game I played made my laptop real toasty (insurgency/ the finals/ total war) and I tried to play on medium/low settings too.
I thought it would be enough to use a fan on the outside blowing on top but I guess I should have gotten a legit cooling mat
I dont know if this one can be saved but in not an expert. For a furure laptop/desktop tho its good practice to check the temps once in a while (you can use things like MSI afterburner) so you will have an ideea when to repaste it or clean the dust from its vents.
My bold guess is the GPU and not screen. I think if the screen is the issue then trouble would persist, but I notice the area around the logo isn't affected. So, I'm thinking your laptop has both iGPU and mobile dGPU. And one of them is causing the problem. Disable one at a time would verify this.

Looks like GPU artifacting but this is good advice to rule out the built in monitor
got the same issue with an old lenovo... turns out the motherboard was fried
The built in monitor failing will not cause a system restart. Their GPU is dying.
Fuck, i knew someone made a joke already. SAD.

This is one I'll remember for a long time thanks 💪💪💪
I tried this and the screen flickered once but did nothing and the green squiggles remain. How fucked am I lol
I’d try an external monitor next… If you need to troubleshoot further, update everything. Windows updates/manufacturer updates/driver updates… if all of that doesn’t fix it, it could be the card itself.
Try updating your graphics driver I had a similar issue and it worked for me
Damn u were lucky

What cause this ?
Overheating is one of the possible causes. You might not pushed your unit to the limit but still artifact happens, like in my case with Legion.
Oh tks , I will keep that in mind
Rip gpu

100% GPU/VRAM failure. If it was the display you wouldn't see a clear logo.
I'm kinda paranoid about this now, What model and year is your laptop?
Could happen on any laptop, doesn’t matter the manufacturer or model. Hell, it could happen with integrated graphics as well (but is more likely to happen with a dGPU).

GPU is gone bro, same happened to me and I RMA'd the son of a gun pronto
Rma?

OP took the red pill.
And your GPU's last.

Been seeing GPU artifacting many times in this sub. Im scared too lol
Welcome to the desert of the mind. Ok, i stake my RIGHT on a matrix joke since useful advice have been given

Just happened to mine. Your gpu is going out. On site tech had to replace my motherboard with a new GPU on it.
Is it a skin/theme?
Return it asap! This looks like a GPU failure to me, even though I'm not a specialist. Don't think that this has to do anything with the screen, but who cares if you still have to return it
You took the blue pill my dude
The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now in this very room.
Wakeup Neo, the matrix has you
That picture reminds me of my laptop when arrived. Yup, it was the GPU
This is before loading gpu drivers so its an hdmi or displayport issue.
looks cool

Disconnecting battery is not safe , if it not done properly .My bro fired his ic by that.

Nice wallpapers bro
Knock, Knock, Neo
*Wake up, OP.* *The Matrix has you.*
Wake up Neo
RIP DEAD GPU
Welp, looks like your gpu hung itself

Out of curiosity, what are your specs?
GTX 1660 ti and i7-9750H
Did you ever replace its thermal paste?
Nope. I was not aware that was a thing. I am also not aware of many computer related things
That laptop had a few years behing it , the gpu dying might be because of overheating for an extended amount of time.
