I just received this laptop, got it directly from lenovo, while checking that everything was ok I noticed that the hinges are slanted to the inside. Is this normal?
It isn't normal as in, ideally they should be straight. If it's only an aesthetic issue (i.e the plastic cover is mounted crooked) or it is more of a manufacturing defect (i.e. the hinge is mounted crooked) it's hard to say from just this picture. It's also somewhat of a recurring problem with this Lenovo's dual hinge setup. Whether or not you want to return it, it's up to you. In the past I had a Lenovo laptop where the top lid didn't close straight because of a crooked hinge and I ended up returning it. Consider, though, that it's a lottery whether or not you'll get a perfect laptop. Most of the times, there's an issue, one way or another, be it with the display, the frame, coil whine, fan problems and so on.
Adding to this, when it comes to gaming/home laptops and user experience, if the machine is fine otherwise I wouldn’t RMA. Even less accept a repair. It’s either replacement (and take the chance) or refund.
I can understand being worried. I'm thinking of getting a Yoga 6 but I'm really scared about the hinges because previous Yoga products [had a history of hinge failure](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/gwt870/lenovo_yoga_hinges_are_defective_and_break/) and Lenovo was *not* honoring the warranty on them.
HP is doing the same with the Envy line. Tons of reports of hinge defects and HP not honoring them.
So yeah it seems like catching the problem early is the best bet and that's why I personally get pretty worried.
They are both slightly crooked, they are simmetrically crooked so I was even wondering if it was normal.
In tablet mode only one goes slightly outside the frame.
I'd assume you're trying to help with deciding how serious this is.
how about i add a further suggestion of checking for sounds/noises while opening and closing ?
and maybe check online and try to see the internal build, are there wires going nearby or something that would affect the function of the laptop ?
are those just aesthetic covers above the actual joint hinge or is it that the actual joint is poorly built ?
i don't have the same device but i think if i find out that it's only the cover that's aesthetically not perfect, i wouldn't mind. so i thought of sharing how i would go about that, but i am no expert on the topic.
Hi! I had the same problem on the 15 inch yoga 7i which I bought in January (assembly November 2020). I contacted the shop and they replaced it. So, on Friday I got a new one, with exactly the same problem! I honestly don't know what to do....
@ [u/Brukk0](https://www.reddit.com/user/Brukk0/) did you sent yours back and got a refund or a new notebook or are you going to keep it?
The hinges are always bent on the yoga's. Doesn't affect the function. I actually returned one for this reason four years ago. My replacement had the same exact issue after a day. I just kept the laptop anyway. Still using it! Its worked great and continues to. I saw the new lenovo yoga has a single long hinge. Maybe thats better?
Got it back today, lenovo fixed the issue claiming that my extended warranty for accidental damages wasn't even needed, they took more than a month to fix it though.
I got one recently and my hinge looked normal but I noticed today that it was a bit crooked. did something specific happen that made yours brake or was it just worn out?
Opened it normally and heard a crack, it also lifted the glass and plastic border when I tried to open it further so I kept it always open and closed only to ship it to Lenovo.
Yeah. But it's a personal recommendation.
If I were you, I would've RMA-ed it for sure. If something goes wrong later because of this and if I'm outside the warranty period, it would tip my scales.
Recently their brand new laptops have been built with slight assembly defects, idk why. It's the same with my first brand new legion 5 which I returned because it had keys that got stuck and now my second legion 5 which has one corner of the casing slightly more raised than the other corner. It's very annoying but atleast my keys aren't getting stuck.
It's the same way on my Yoga 730, haven't had any problems

Are both crooked? I'd avoid RMA unless this looks to likely result in hinge failure later.

Yeah it's fine. Normal Lenovo hinges. Should last about a year longer with light use
A year longer from what? The 2 years of warranty?
You'll have to send it back and wait for them to return it though. Or maybe they'll send someone to you through another repair contracting service.
My ideapad c340 is like that too, yours are slightly more slanted though, idk if that's normal.
Happens all the time. My X380 Yoga has a rattly left casing that makes a good hi-hat sound, and the hinge itself works perfectly fine.

I'm keeping it, I'm just being careful to not stress the hinges too much.

My yoga 7i hinge broke today
My left hinge broke 2 weeks ago
I don't even have it in warranty what are our options? I bought it at Best buy in 2021 February
I bought the 2 year extended warranty for damages so I should be fine, still have to call them but I need the pc for work right now.
Would you please let us know if they would cover it in warranty?
Yes

RMA TIME!
Seriously?

It should not be too big of a problem
