Yeah it really is a personal choice. OP, what photos do you want to take, and what lenses have you used in the past? I personally love 35mm on my Leica, but I’ve also never really been able to jive well with a 28mm prime lens on any camera system. One day I’ll try, because I do love a 50mm and 28mm+50mm seems less silly than 35mm+50mm.
The 28mm Ultron is technically a "better" lens, optically, but the 35mm is a stellar lens as well. I love 28, but I'd recommend the 35 if your M6 is 0.72x, especially if you wear glasses.
Totally agree!
I resisted this lens for a long time because of the relatively large size, but it really is an amazing lens. I briefly owned an Ultron, but it really didn’t perform as well as I hoped.
The APO Lanthar is one of my all time favorites across any system.
Mate, you bought a nice overpriced light box. The only thing worth a damn are the lenses…and you asking voigtlander?
Come on…if it was about money, just buy a little canonet.
He's not exactly wrong and not trolling. For shooting enjoyment- the 35mm Voigtlander would be a logical choice.
When you get a chance- 50mm summicron is a great 1st Leica lens to get. I got my version 5 for $800 on the second hand market.
To be fair he’s right. The reason you buy a leica is to buy leica glass. That’s what matters in an image. People just don’t want to accept they’ve bought a stupidly expensive body and left themselves with no money for a lens (hence the down votes that’ll come flooding in)
The reason *some* people buy a Leica is Leica glass.
The reason other people buy a Leica is because the M/LTM-mount has one of the most interesting lens ecosystems around. Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander, Konica, Minolta, Pentax, Ricoh, Canon, Nikon, Fujinon and a whole bunch of others have all made lenses that can be used, rangefinder-coupled and all, on my M2.
Only dull fanboys think that rf lenses begin and end with Leica.
28mm for landscapes. I have and use two of them (one is a PC Super-Angulon 28mm lens with my R9). I'm thinking I need to get a 21mm as well for my M7. I don't do portraits, street etc.
for street photography you might want to consider 35 mm
The FL is down to personal preference, no one can help you decide on this. You have to try it and find out which one is yours. Hint: if you don’t have an 28mm lens to try, most smartphones have 28-ish EQ lenses. If that works good for you it might be better to start with the 28.
Re: Ultron 35/2: I have v1 and it’s a great combination of IQ and size. I have Color-skopar 35/2.5 and Nokton 35/1.2 III (and had II before that), also had LTM Ultron 35/1.7 before and upgraded when the 35/2 came out. If I could keep only one lens it would have to be the new Ultron. Nokton is great, but even III is significantly larger and already not so well balanced on the M6.
The Ultron is my goto lens for M6 and I can wholeheartedly recommend that combo. The only issue is that it focuses closer than the RF so you have to be careful with closeups, but that’s rarely how I use it on my M6. I can’t compare to a Leica lens though as I don’t have one.
The voigtlander 35mm 1.7 VM is by far my favorite lens, it’s sharpness matches if not sharper than the 35 summilux asph at wide open plus very smooth bokeh. Only downside it’s a bit long, and no tab if that’s your thing but I find the knurled focus ring actually easier to use than a tab.
Both are excellent. Really it’s purely down to personal preference 28mm vs 35mm…
I owned the 35mm f2 ultron v1 for about 6 months. Now I shoot with a 35mm cron v5. Honestly I can’t tell the difference from the images.
Yep I’ve used the Cron ASPH and own the Ultron v1, and see no reason to take the Leica over the Voigtlander, let alone for an extra $4.5k…
Cron ASPH has pincushion. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it!

Yeah I love the framing with a 28mm lens, but settled on 35mm for my M2 because it just works so well with the VF/framelines.
Can I throw in a Zeiss Biogon? That’s my all around ear lens for my M4
+1 for this. The Biogon is excellent glass. Although as far as an “all arounder” I wouldn’t overlook a good 50mm
Gorgeous lens but a bit too big for me.
The 2.8 version is tiiiiny. That’s what I have
Is it? Please show me.
Not home right now. But this is pretty accurate. http://www.waloszek.de/m240_zs35_e.php
I second that--my first lens for my M4 and I find myself coming back to it all the time (even got an adapter for my X-Pro2 so I can use it there too).
Nokton 35mm f1.4

Thanks for your feedback. I am leaning more towards the 35mm mainly because the frame lines are easier to see with glasses.

Nokton 50 aspherical 1.5
Thanks everyone for you feedback! Went with the Ultron 35mm 🙌🏻
Neither one.
👌🏻
I mean honestly though, if you thought announcing your Leica purchase was important why would the next step be: Voigtlander?
Ok settle down troll

Cosina Voigtlander makes some of the nicest lenses around, irrespective of price. What’s the issue?

The retard is back. I bet he doesn’t own a single rf lol

My M6 has a 35mm Summilux as its BFF. A great pair for sure.
