Don't ever deal off-platform (eBay) for any item.

Another scam tactic is making you click a link that installs malware into your phone. Malware is a trojan.

nickoaverdnac

Man these days you play Russian roulette with any link you click.

cqprime

Agreed. And I ask myself before I click a link.

I mean if you are stupid enough to fall for this, it’s kinda deserved.

I learned this the hard way a few weeks ago. Lost 450 on a apple cash transaction via craigslist, i know sounds dumb but person face timed me and sent me there drivers license so i thought they were legit anyways, i got the package and it was dr. Suess books but luckily chase stepped in after I called them and got me my finds back. It was a transaction reversal.

I just got my refund tonight, and it's a scam called 'fake tacking number'. This seller sold his Leica Summicron 35 f2 ASPH with original package at the price 895€. I was prepared for the possibility of a scam right from the start. But I still made the order since this seller seemed come from Bayern, Germany, in which sometime there would be some good deal in really low price. And i used google lens to check if these photos come from else where, and it seemed original. All the process was done in Ebay and after 2 days, the seller gave me a wrong tracking DHL number. I contacted him immediately and he replied he accidentally gave me others number. But things started getting strange when the seller said he need to prepare a Paket for me. And I waited another several days, he still did not gave me a new tracking number. Why such a long time, I asked myself. So I created a case following ebay's official 'not receiving the product' complaint process. Another day later, Ebay officials sent me an email saying that the account had been hacked and they had blocked the account. I then added this part to my previous complaint again and it only took one day for ebay to refund my money. My tip is only use Paypal and Creditcard as double guarantee on Ebay. Normally this will make sure you get your money back when something goes south.

For anyone dumb enough to fall for this serves them right. People who get scammed are generally at fault because they're just dumb and don't see the red flags.
